I find this piece very informative, interesting and knowledgeable. \n\nToday, available statistics have shown that estimated 1.6 million people die of HIV&AIDS annually. In Nigeria alone, government reports claim that over 300,000 Nigerians die yearly of complications arising from AIDS.\n\n\nIf these estimated numbers die of HIV/AIDS, have you ever imagined what the situation will be like? Thank God, HIV doesn’t have that ability. If mosquitoes spread HIV the way they spread malaria, millions of people will definitely lose their lives on daily basis, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria where mosquitoes are endemic.\n\nBefore now, there have been reports about concern of the possibility of mosquitoes transmitting AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) when the disease was first recognized and many people still feel that mosquitoes may be responsible for transmission of this infection from one individual to another.\n\nHowever, Entomologists say that although mosquitoes function the same way as hypodermic needles – they can both inject chemicals and extract blood but cannot transmit HIV.\n\nAccording to a former Navy Entomologist and Current Technical Advisor for the American Mosquito Control Association, Joe Conlon explains; “If mosquitoes carry West Nile Virus and other blood-borne diseases, shouldn’t they logically be able to transmit HIV, too?  It is definitely not a stupid question, but that is not the case. Mosquitoes can not transmit HIV.\n\nConlon reassured that first of all, when a mosquito bites you, it draws your blood into its gut. Acids there kill the HIV virus.\n\n“Even if the mosquito’s stomach acids did not render the virus harmless, it would not be able to get back out of the insect.\n\nThat is because mosquitoes use two different tubes to suck up blood and to inject you with saliva that stops your blood from clotting up while it’s drinking. Even if a mosquito had virus-containing blood from another human inside it, the blood would never exit the bug through its salivary glands and into your blood stream.\n\n“For a mosquito to transmit a disease, it must pick up the virus. The virus has to survive in the gut and then get outside the gut into the body cavity and then eventually into the salivary glands to be injected into something else.  It is a very complicated process, and with HIV, it just doesn’t happen,” he explained.\n\nMalaria parasites, on the other hand, are able to grow in the mosquito gut, then, migrate specifically to the salivary glands to continue their lifecycle in another human.\n\nReasons\n\nMosquitoes’ mouth parts do not operate like a hypodermic needle. The tube which injects the host with saliva is separate from the canal which the mosquito uses to suck blood from the same host. Therefore blood only flows into the mosquito and only saliva is injected; blood is not flushed out of the same canal.\n\nInsect-borne diseases like Encephalitis and malaria are spread because they multiply within the mosquito, these diseases then move into the insect’s salivary glands and are injected into the host with the saliva. If a mosquito feeds on an HIV-positive person the virus cannot survive and replicate within the mosquito’s gut as HIV requires specialist cells found only in humans in order to multiply.\n\nHIV circulates in the blood at lower levels than malaria and other inset-borne diseases. The mosquito does not take enough units of HIV from the infected person to initiate infection.\n\nEven if it was possible for the mosquito to inject HIV into an uninfected person, the person would have to be bitten by 10 million mosquitoes who had previously been feeding on an HIV positive host in order to receive one unit of HIV.",

      "body": "Robbery is no new news. It occurs on daily basis and causes heartaches to victims and friends. You may need some fine safety tips to reduce effects of Robbery or even possible invasion and Robbery attempts.  \n\n1. Robbers typically launch their attacks from the backdoor (normally kitchen doors) because they are usually not fortified. Get good doors for your kitchen. Use crossbars at the back or \"burglarproof\" behind the doors inside the house. If you have keys to the burglarproof, never leave them inside the lock. Where possible, use a padlock in addition to the keys. The purpose is to make it as difficult as possible for the robbers to enter into the house and to buy you time to call somebody for help.\n\n2. When you hear someone breaking your doors, unless you are absolutely sure your actions will prevent entry into the house, don't try to be a hero by pushing back behind the doors (they may shoot at you through the doors), or putting heavy items like freezers or furniture behind it (they get more angry and when they are able to finally enter they are more likely to be violent).\n\n3. If you sleep without clothes or with minimal clothing, dress up as soon as you hear them. For the women especially, don't stay in your nighties or wrappers, wear trousers and an ugly top. \n\n4. If you call someone on the phone for help, keep the phone far from you as you don't want it to be known that you've done so. \n\n5. Look for your main power switch and plunge the building into darkness (it disorients them and may cause them to run away).\n\n6. If you have a gun, registered or not, use it but only if you're sure you will do damage. This isn't the time for warning shots! Killing an intruder on your premises in defence of yourself and property is a legitimate legal defence. Same goes for the use of any other weapon e.g. knives.\n\n7. When the robbers manage to enter give them whatever they want. Don't hide anything. Don't try to be a hero or to negotiate with them. \n\n8. Don't look at them directly (or don't let them see you doing so). If you know any of them don't show any signs of recognition and don't mention the person's name. However memorise whatever features you can to help with identification and investigation. \n\n9. When they finally leave your house do not chase after them..\n\n10. Be your neighbour's keeper and if you hear any breaks in at their house, call the police for assistance. \n\n11. *When robbers enter your compound, do not put on any light in your room.  Put on the outside lights but keep the inside lights totally off so that the robbers do not see you*.\n\n12. Robbers can also use your tap, pumping machines or generating sets outside to attract you by either putting it on or off as the case may be so that whenever you come to check, they will arrest you and use you to enter the house. So don't always be quick to come out when such appliances went on or off.\n\n13. Another new method is for them to be quarrelling and arguing among themselves and you may think it is from your neighbour and you come out to check, it can be used to gain assess to the house.\n\nSomeone may need this!. They are as follow:\n\n(1) DON'T PANIC in the event of a blowout, calm yourself down fast because your car will start misbehaving and you need to take charge.   \n\n(2) Hold FIRMLY to your steering wheel with both hand, NO VIGOROUS TURNING, as you concentrate on the road and your mirrors, in seconds study the movement pattern of the car. Your car will naturally swerve to the direction of the burst tyre. \n\n(3) Gradually take off your foot from the accelerator, DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO PRESS THE BRAKES, IF YOU DO, YOU HAVE A 95% CHANCE OF A SOMERSAULT. The car will decelerate gradually while you concentrate on the road to avoid collision with any other road user. \n\n(4) Disengage the gears of the car by shifting to neutral (N) as you still maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel and put your eyes on the road.\n\n(5) After a while depending on your initial speed, your car comes to a speed less than 60km/h when it is now safe to GRADUALLY apply the brakes and navigate to the side walk \n\n(6) Ultimately, it is now safe to put the car to a complete stop and turn off the engine. You have just saved yourself and passengers from untimely death.\n\nNOTE:\nOf course, everyone in the car will be in a panic mode BUT this is NOT THE TIME TO LISTEN TO THEM, it is TIME TO CONCENTRATE.
