A team game where you run lane to take an enemy base.  A genre known for it high levels of toxic players.  This competitive game is highly PVP based and for some reason brings out the absolute worst in people.  Everyone seems to know everything about how and who you should be playing and everyone who is not them apparently sucks.  For the most part this a dark area of gaming no casual should enter.  Players take it seriously, very very seriously, even when playing against bots in an unranked \"casual\" match.  \n\nLeague of Ledgends, the height of toxic, known more for being toxic rather than game play.  I tried, I cried, I left it to the unsupervised angry 14yr olds\n\nDOTA2, based off a Warcraft 3 mod.  I saw, I got sworn at, I learned I don't speak Russian.  I left.\n\nThen Blizzard made Heroes of the Storm.  A MOBA where the characters are based off  other Blizzard games.  Had some familiarity from my WoW and Diablo days.  I dropped in and played a bit with my friends off and on during beta.  Then in one game while I was playing with friends in beta, I was playing a character I never played before.  We played against bots in a nice casual game.  We where all still learning.  While running my lane some one stated chirping in chat.  I needed to come kill bots in the middle of the map and not run a lane and how dare I not have been there already.  So to the middle I go.  Where as a noob, playing with noobs against noob bots I don't get a kill, mostly as yelly chat guy is spamming not nice things to me and my friend dies.  This is somehow my fault and he tells me to go F myself.  This was the last straw of dealing with people.  I dont play games to be yelled at and insulted by angry people who can't relax, who seem to even get mad at you when you do well.  So I quit.  Uninstalled.  Went back to offline single player games; Tomb Raider, Wolfenstien, a dabble of others on my steam library and even some Ratchet and Clank on PlayStation.  \n\nThen one day Blizzard offers me a bunch of characters to add to my collection in Heroes of the Storm if I just log in.  This means I don't have to earn them or get them in loot crates, I don't have to wait until they are on free rotation.  I figure that I might not pick up the game again, but its free and why not.  Thats when I notice that Blizzard has learned how toxic and rude MOBA players are.  They changed the game for me, they made one of the most toxic anti-causal genres playable for a filthy casual.  They gave the option to mute allied chat, you can still chat with your party if you are in one, but not with the randoms.  They also brought in the option to mute pings, you know for that one guy who needs to ping the map 30 times, in case you didn't see it the first 5 times.  With games that last 15mins-30mins its a great game when you want some pvp action but only have a limited time, its also an ELO style rating system so you don't get matched with people way out of your league.\nNow I know in team games there should be communication and team work.  But usually there is just salt and swearing, so in a casual game against bots or people I can safely enjoy the MOBA PVP action as a filthy casual.\n\nSo there are games out there for the filthy casual, even though we live in a world of online multiplayer aimed at people who can and will dedicate time to being top of the charts.  There are a still a few games in that competitive world for us casuals.",

      "body": "This resonates with me for sure, I used to have all the time in the world for online competitive games, but now, I choose not to. \n\nThe overly competitive nature of the communities for games like League of Legends, Smite, Dota or Overwatch just don't interest me that much. \n\nMMOs used to be my bread and butter, but with raiding schedules and raid lengths, plus pay-to-win micro-transactions I just quit bothering. I still have a Hardcore Iron-Man (No trades or outside help, plus permadeath) on RuneScape I putz around with from time to time, but this isn't my life, **I work 40+ hours a week, this is supposed to be a game, not a job!**\n\nI still have time for a good skyrim session or other more short form games though!",

ARPGS are great for a casuals like me, there story, classes, skill trees, hacking and slashing and in some cases leagues and leader boards.  There are some great ARPGs such as Divinity Original Sin, Grim Dawn and many others.  But there is also a few online that add a bit of competitiveness, trading and even PVP to the mix.\n\nProbably the most well know ARPG (action-role playing game) is Blizzards Diablo.  Diablo 3 has leagues, PUGSs (pick up groups) and leader boards.  You can go at your own pace getting to end game or team up with friends but the ARPG that keeps this filthy casuals attention is Path of Exile.\n\nPath of Exile is a F2P ARPG, its F2P done right, only cosmetic, but its so much more.  This ever expanding game (which has recently updated yet again) offers everything a filthy casual like me could want.  It has a typical standard league, which updates as updates come but doesnt end.  It has hardcore and softcore modes and the best part of hardcore for the casual is if your hardcore character dies it just goes to softcore with all the gear its wearing/carrying.  There are leagues that generally last about 3 month, they offer a little something different from standard and have leaderboards and a chance to earn cosmetics.  As a filthy casual I rarely get to jump in the moment a league opens, I will never be the first character to enter an area or kill a boss, no one will be following my twitch, but with 3 months I can still play at my pace, with my friends or a PUG on my time.  To top it off they started a \"self found\" mode, where you do not need to trade or deal with other players offering a harder but personally more enjoyable experience as I don't always have the time or energy to find people online with the item I need for the currency I have.  The community is not too toxic, but they can be pretty bitter, lucklly outside finding a build or looking up a skill this could-be mmoarpg works well as a single player and co-op game for a casual like me.",

This is a competitive genre, the stuff of esports and bragging rights.  I have dabbled in several FPS games in search for a drop in and drop out, a game on my time, a game where one can 'git gud' by playing only when I can play, where I can play against those of my skill lvl.  And I found several.\n\nTeam Fortress 2 is a team based F2P shooter done by Valve, sure you can spend money on cosmetic items but nothing that actually gives any advantage to game play.  A true free game.  As a casual player the nice thing about TF2 is the ability to drop in and out of games.  There is no penalty if you just leave a game.  I was able to turn off voice completely which was nice and there are many kids, mic spammers and generally rude people on voice.  However you cannot turn off chat, which can become tiresome to see.   TF2 has added more features such as competitive mode and an ELO style of match making.  However as the community is fairly toxic and the good private servers seem to have all disappeared (these where servers where people played the objective of the map) I stopped playing about a year ago, it just wasn't as fun anymore.\n\nUnreal Tournament 4 is a team based FPS that also has FFA (free for all) modes.  It is the definition of a twitch shooter.  It is also ELO based.  There is a penalty for dropping games, but the games are usually a decent length of time, good for a casual who enjoys a fast paced shooter.  The community for the game is still small and so far has remained fairly decent, there are some toxic people, but overall as it is a community based game it remains friendly.  \n\nCSGO is a toxic shooter full of angry people that I will not go anywhere near.  I have heard it has a casual mode, but I have not encountered anything positive about the people who play this game and quickly uninstalled it.\n\nOverwatch is a team based game by Blizzard.  One of the things Blizzard does really, really well for filthy casuals like me is give me the option to not have team chat (the community is pretty toxic) or voice chat but I could still have team chat to play with my friends.  Blizzard also has pretty good customization with options such as the ability to turn off character voices.  I don't really play it much, Im more in to ARPGS and MOBAS at the moment as you can read in P3.\n\nIm sure there are more shooters out there, some great for casuals and noobs, some not, these are the ones I have gone to to scratch my shooter itch.",

I was able to learn strats, game economy, proper positioning and shooting in the game. But not because of a guide, but because I loved the game. Now with my internet I can't even play it.       "body": "I am a gamer, by definition.  I play video games in my spare time, as a hobby and sometimes as a social engagement with friends.   But gaming has changed since the days when I was a wee child on her NES playing bubble bobble.  I come from the old school days of console games, I grew up as systems grew up.  Games went from P1 and P2 to four player games.  They went from simple platformers and single player RPGs to competitive shooters and MMOs.  I moved from console to PC.  As I moved from student to working adult to busy working adult I learned gaming has moved beyond what I have time for.  So I have moved from game to game come back to some, uninstalled others and now I am at a good place, I have accepted my casualness and where I fit in the gaming world.\n\nIm the beginning there was Azeroth.  As an avid RPGer from my console days, I was looking for something new.  I had an odd work schedule as I worked part time serving and bartending.  The first expansion was about to launch and I jumped in.  I played for 2 years.  I worked my way into a raiding guild, but quickly noticed that the game was about getting to max level as soon as possible.  When playing with friends who had more time to play it became an issue of levels.\n\n  \"oh you were not on, so I played for 10 hours, got to a way higher lvl then you and can just run you through the next few quests\"\n\nPersonally I did not find this fun, I wanted to play with my friends, not have them run ahead and kill everything for me to catch up.   I enjoyed the solo play on the quests and occasional PUGs for bosses and dungeons.  Once I was at max level things where on a more even playing field.  I enjoyed PVP as I leveled, when people played the objective, those maps where so fun.  I remember once catching shit from PKers in the early lvls of CtF for capping the flag, apparently PKers are bad at math and did not realize you got more honor for winning that just trying to gank in the middle of the maps.  Once I started raiding to was too much effort (ie: I just didn't have the time) to switch between my raid build and a PVP build.  I raided one day a week, which was perfect for my lifestyle, but raiding was not cheap and I needed to find additional time to grind for gold to raid.  As I didn't want to buy gold and raiding was mostly my guildmates crying about not getting a drop, I realized this game was pretty negative and move on.  \n\nAfter WoW I tried other games, but quickly realized online play comes with a series set of casual hardships, games now are like angry competitive team sports, even if your in a scrub beer league, there is always a player to two that takes things way too seriously.  These people ruin the fun for most.  I just don't have the time to \"git gud\"  I have a job, friends, other hobbies and commitments.  I can't practice (play) several hours a day, hell sometimes I can't play several hours in a week. \n I can't and won't watch videos and read strat guides about a game, games are fun little breaks in life, little escapes and challenges, this requires a commitment I just can't give.  I don't care to give it, I'm not a serious gamer, I am not there to be the best there ever was, I'm there to have fun.  Fun to me doesn't mean being called a bunch of nasty names from little kids and no-lifers.  I don't understand why gamers are so angry and rude.  I worry their salt will ruin my computer.\n\n\nAnd so began my search for where a Filthy Casual fit in to gaming...",

This is where we are seeing new Esports betting sites start-up in the form of ICOs.  \n\n#### A list of ICOs aimed at Esports:\n* https://unikoingold.com/\n* https://skincoin.org/\n* https://www.herocoin.io/\n* https://gimli.io/ \n\n\n### The Good\n\nDecentralized and anonymous these systems would offer betting services in the hole left by the decline of skin trading.  It brings a new audience to cryptocurrencies and to Esports as well.  The system would help lessen some scams as funds would be visible on blockchain and not relying on a 3rd party or Trade Bot to deal with funds. \nWhen aimed towards a more adult, this could gain momentum and be a viable use of cryptocurrency. \n\n### The Bad  \n\nOver saturation, there is currently a ton of Esports betting sites and with that a ton of Esports betting scam sites.  I listed just 4 ICOs coming up, there are more likely more out there and more in talks.   This could be a good system, hell a great system if we had 1-2 main sites on a crypto system, but as more will jump chain and therefore more scams will follow suit, the Crypto Esports betting sites with thier own currency will flood the net and it will take a while for a king to be crowned and the shitcoins to be flushed out.\n\n### The Ugly\n\nThe current market for Esports betting is currently minors, teens and young adults.  This will not change until the market grows older.   This market is a prime target for scamming.   Cryptocurrency requires a higher level of responsibility.  The amount of spam flooding gaming forums with referral codes when a new betting site offers incentive, the amount of support tickets the accumulate when an account gets hijacked, phished or scammed out of items is higher with a younger crowd.   These are factors that may not be considered by new ICOs for this market.  A quick browse of the forums and reddits of this culture should provide more insight of the fallback.\n\n\n## Conclusion \n\nA great concept that will fall flat as the market becomes saturated while the target market ages.  The legalization of Online Betting and Esports betting is still up in the air in most countries which causes more issues and can reflect negatively on cryptos.   I will be keeping an eye on them, but my money could be better invested elsewhere.  The pump will eventually dump.",
