Thus, making sense of what's actually going on can be difficult at times, especially when the mainstream tosses those who ask these questions in the category of \"looney's.\"</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In reality, fingers are often pointed towards Hollywood movie stars, music artists and entertainers who are seen throwing up specific hand signs or music videos constantly containing significant ancient art/symbolism. And although these stars are not the Illuminati themselves, they are tools for them, and their use of the cabals symbolism is to popularize or normalize the religion that this group follows.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-154366\" src=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2017/11/eye.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"427\" /></p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And while some feel this is simply a joke being passed around to get people on the internet talking, others have explored, researched and heard directly from the horse's mouth what the truth really is.       "body": "<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A lot of people reading the title of this article are probably rolling their eyes, and that's a problem. Paradigm-changing discoveries are being made every day, and if these discoveries don't make mainstream media headlines, people dismiss them as fake news, conspiracy theories, or pseudoscience. But the small group of people who control mainstream media also have control over our perception of reality, over what we consider to be real or not real, and that's a problem.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The world has witnessed the birth of several different \"alternative\" news outlets in response to this issue, yet the information they provide never makes mainstream headlines despite coming from credible sources. This has especially been the case when it comes to UFOs, extraterrestrials, and life on other planets.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite studies being published in multiple peer-reviewed scientific journals bringing forth some very intriguing questions, this type of information is still greeted with skepticism more often than not, though things are slowly changing. As we move through 2018 and beyond, more people will become open and aware to the idea that we are not alone, that we've never been alone, and that there is plenty of evidence to prove these claims.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One person working to prove them is Dr. John Brandenburg, a well-known and respected plasma physicist who joined a number of colleagues in blowing the whistle on the need for disclosure. They argue there are things \"out there\" that have been deliberately kept from us. Whether this information has been concealed because the human race is not ready for this information, that it's just too \"mind-altering\" and would change too many things, or because its disclosure would threaten to various corporate interests, remains unclear and too broad a subject to tackle here.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since coming out, Brandenburg has been ridiculed by the mainstream, as any Department of Defense scientist making such claims would be, but the information he shares correlates with scores of other papers and documents available in the public domain, as well as the information that's been shared by a number of scholars over the years, about this subject.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We've presented his work in multiple articles, but he has now come out with new revelations.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Brandenburg worked for NASA for a number of years. He was also the Deputy Manager of the Clementine Mission to the Moon, which was part of a joint space project between the Ballistic Missile Defence Organization (BMDO) and NASA. The mission discovered water at the Moon’s poles in 1994. (<a href=\"http://www.spudislunarresources.com/Bibliography/p/86.pdf\">Source: page 16 of 18</a>)(<a href=\"http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1994-004A\" target=\"_blank\">source</a>)(<a href=\"http://www.zoominfo.com/p/John-Brandenburg/7595990\" target=\"_blank\">source</a>).</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He has also worked on space plasma technologies, nuclear fusion, and advanced space propulsion, and invented the  <a href=\"http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/1420619/\">Microwave Electro-Thermal plasma thruster</a> using water propellant for space propulsion.</p>\n\n<h3>Mars/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We've mentioned this before, but it's important to mention again:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> The more we observe Mars, the more information we’re getting that it really is a fascinating planet, from the Curiosity Rover we now know that Mars once was like a planet very much like Earth, with long salty seas, with fresh water lakes, probably with snow capped peaks and clouds and a water cycle just like we’re studying here on Earth. . . . Something has happened to Mars, it lost its water.</strong></p>\n</blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The quote above <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRQ5B_ik2dU\" target=\"_blank\">is from</a> John Grunsfeld, a five-time space flow astronaut and associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directive. It was given at a NASA press conference where representatives told the world that there is a water Mars, that it's not the dry, arid planet we imagined it to be, and that it was once very much Earth-like and still holds the possibility of harbouring life. After all, water means life.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In that conference, they admit to a drastic atmospheric shift that occurred on Mars which took it from its Earth-like composition to the one we see today. They provide no explanation for how this happened.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Brandenburg, there was a nuclear blast that completely changed the planet (the changes mentioned at the press conference linked in the above paragraph. He states:</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\"The question has been raise as to why a superabundance of Xe 129 in the Mars atmosphere, relative to every other major planetary isotopic reservoir in the Solar System can be considered as \"nuclear weapon\" signature on mars (1,2). In <a href=\"http://lifeonmars.pub/\" target=\"_blank\">this </a>brief  article I will summarize how Xe 129 superabundance occurs physically and is associated in the open literature with \"fast neutron fission\" found in supernova - the close physical analog to a hydrogen bomb explosion (3,4,5). I will also show that Earth atmospheric data compared between 1937 (1), just before the dawn of the nuclear age, and that done in 1950 and 1978, clearly shows an increase of Xe 129 from 1937 relative to other Xe isotopes and can therefore be associated with open air nuclear weapon testing and plutonium production, which itself produces large amounts of fast neutron fission of Uranium and Plutonium isotopes.\"</strong>\n&gt;Multiple intelligently designed structures have been detected on Mars.       "body": "<html>\n<p>Can you really have an out of body experience on command? Absolutely. While this is something that will take some time to practice and get good at, there are many methods to having out of body experiences or spiritual experiences on command using only your consciousness and physical body.</p>\n<p>There is also a purpose to these experiences; they aren’t simply to trip out (although if you wish to do that it’s up to you). These experiences can help you dissolve fears, move past trauma, expand your consciousness and much more. I personally don’t feel inspired to do anything other than explore and expand myself when I engage in experiences like this.</p>\n<p>Many of the stories you hear of out of body experiences happen through dreams, near death experiences, from the state between sleep and awake, and when people experiment with psychedelics like magic mushrooms, DMT or ayahuasca. But we are capable of having out-of-body experiences with just our thoughts, breath and consciousness.</p>\n<p><img src=\"http://cdn2.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2017/08/out-of-body-experience-1-759x486.jpg\"/></p>\n<h2>Why These Experiences Can Be Helpful</h2>\n<p>I say “CAN BE” helpful because they have that ability, but it doesn’t mean we always use it. We may want to explore a past trauma, and meditation or OBE’s could help us do that, but if we don’t use them for this purpose or do the work afterwards they won’t be helpful. Likewise with any substance like ayahuasca, mushrooms or DMT. They don’t do the work for you and don’t save you. You still have to do the work afterwards and it’s for this exact reason that most people who experiment with these substances or experiences still don’t make shifts in their lives because it’s still work. And it’s the work that we often aren’t willing to do that stops us from moving forward.</p>\n<p>Your intention for wanting to have these experiences is important. Sometimes when we think about psychedelics or having out of body experiences we are seeking a trippy-like experience out of curiosity. And that’s totally fine. Curiosity can be how we explore and learn things. But while it may be fun to play a couple times, I generally say it isn’t the best motivation for wanting to have these experiences. I typically tend to encourage people to reflect on a deeper sense of exploration and growth within ourselves when it comes to exploring our consciousness, which is a big part of what we do in <a href=\"https://explorers.collective-evolution.com/get-started/\">CE’s Explorer Lounge</a> you can check out here.</p>\n<p>The reason why I believe focusing on having a trippy experience is not ideal is because I have seen many people get lost in the need to just experiencing something trippy. Not only that, but it can often become an escape from the challenges we face. Which is why I feel society utilizes <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/08/27/watch-what-are-your-thoughts-on-smoking-marijuana-guru-beautifully-answers/\">cannabis</a>, alcohol, TV and food addictively.</p>\n<p>DMT, mushrooms, Ayahuasca and so forth were initially put on this planet when we had difficult times exploring our consciousness and external tools assisted us in doing that. Today, a resurgence of these substances is taking place as people’s curiosity to explore is once again popular. After all, there is a <a href=\"http://go.collective-evolution.com/screening\">shift in consciousness taking place.</a></p>\n<p>However, I do not believe we still need these substances today in order to have these types of consciousness based experiences. While I think they can be helpful for some of us who are in difficult situations like drug addiction or have serious trauma from war or violent experiences, I feel we are all very equipped within ourselves to explore without them, and I’m personally inspired to encourage that.</p>\n<p>Ultimately it’s not as much about any substance or experience as it is about what the end goal helps us to see – more about ourselves. They tell us to look within to find answers and move past our challenges. So many experiences in life are all pushing us to do that exact same thing, look within. Our core teaching here at Collective Evolution is change starts within. All for the reason that it’s at the core of how we will create a profound shift in our lives and on this planet. So what can we take from this?</p>\n<p>If we know the core truth is about us looking within, why not just begin looking there right now?</p>\n<h2>How I Created my Own Out Of Body Experience</h2>\n<p>I was in California, attending Wim Hof’s retreat in Beverly Hills. It was day two and we were doing a breathing exercise that was about focusing on energy in our body and learning how to control and use it.</p>\n<p><img src=\"http://cdn1.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2017/08/13254172_10205499799128309_2176757005843881265_n-1.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"545\"/></p>\n<p>There was a focus on utilizing it to activate our pineal gland in such a way that may or may not release a little bit of DMT in your brain, allowing us to have some form of experience that would be beyond the physical. I would like to say at this point that this is certainly not the core message of Wim’s work, nor is it something that I think the method is truly for. It’s simply something that you can use in order to obtain this result. These forms of breathing exercises are not new either, they have been used by yogi’s and “guru’s” for many years to attain different states of consciousness.</p>\n<p>There were about 60 of us, we were in a beautiful room with 15 foot ceilings and the sun was shining in through the side windows. I was laying flat on my back on a yoga mat patiently waiting for the exercise to start. This would not be the first time I was going to have an out of body experience, but it would be the first I would attempt on command. My previous experiences came from dream-states, meditation or simply.. happening.</p>\n<p>We began with Wim’s standard method of breathing. Heavy breaths in and out of the mouth. Stomach, chest, head, out. After about 8 minutes of this, I went into my breath holds (as part of his method) and I began to focus energy from around the base of my spine and brought it up my back, into my brain and ‘pinged’ my pineal gland with it.</p>\n<p>As I brought the energy up into my pineal gland I felt what I had felt in the past with these types of experiences. Ringing and vibrations in my body and mind starting to increase. With my eyes closed, I began to see the room. I could feel my essence slowly leaving my body up straight into the air. It moved slowly and peacefully. It wasn’t a fast jolt or ‘uncontrollable’ in a sense, it was very light.</p>\n<p><img src=\"http://cdn2.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2017/08/pineal-gland.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"369\"/></p>\n<p>As I drifted upwards more and more I eventually made it to the ceiling and rested there. What happened next was what you might experience in deep meditation which is having all of your thoughts emotions set aside and you begin to feel like a massive, massive, massive presence that is so far beyond your physical body that you no longer identify with being a physical body. You begin to realize you are a vast consciousness that is pure unconditional love and pure potential.</p>\n<p>From this state of being you have the ability to utilize your awareness to look at your life, situations, the planet or whatever it may be from a completely non-judgmental and unconditionally loving way so as to deeply understand why things happen. You gain clarity and awareness as to how you may move forward with something from this space. These experiences help us to get a glimpse at what is beyond the stories and the drama of our minds. This is VERY powerful in clearing our fears, worries, and traumas.</p>\n<p>Back to my experience here. As I continued to feel immense at the top of the ceiling, I could see all of the bodies in the room having their own experience. I felt connected to them, the building, and everything around us. The difference between myself and everything else drifted away, and I was simply an essence or consciousness observing. This, is precisely how I know experientially that consciousness does not originate in the mind but is our existence. Mainstream science has not caught up to this understanding yet but it’s getting close, and that is very inspiring.</p>\n<p>After what could have been 10 or so minutes, I slowly came back down into my physical body and began to integrate back into it. I opened my eyes and began to feel the desire to go outside and enjoy the sunlight. I felt slightly emotional at this point as I had gotten a glimpse of the difference between feeling fully clear outside of my body vs feeling certain emotional pains and mind stories that were in my physical body. This right here, is where the magic is. This is how we see more clearly what it is that we are being challenged by and have a reference point to compare what letting it go feels like.</p>\n<h2>Concluding Thoughts</h2>\n<p>When you are in meditation, you are able to re-tune into these types of higher states of consciousness and be an observer looking back at the challenges you face at any moment in your life. With detachment from them you can ask yourself how you created or co-created the experience you are having and what lesson is in it for you. How does it serve you? How can you move forward with action and so forth? You can see the greater workings and perfection that comes with these experiences to help you move beyond them.</p>\n<p>So that’s pretty well it! Utilize and explore these experiences with clear intentions of evolving yourself and you will have the best results in not only creating these experiences but attaining more peace in your life.       "body": "<p>When I first found out that 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' was making a comeback, I was stoked! My inner child surfaced and I immediately started reminiscing over watching episodes of his old show in my science classes in junior high school. I could see the potential for positive change by having someone so many people knew and loved during their childhoods host a show on science. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the new series was less of a science lesson and more of a political propaganda piece.</p>\n<p>Instead of presenting his viewers with science, he takes a biased, unscientific stance on many subjects. Not only that, but he blatantly makes fun of spirituality, other cultures, and ideas that have been scientifically proven \n\nHis tone is condescending and many of his \"scientific claims\" are simply incorrect, which begs the questions: Who is funding this propaganda campaign, and where did the science in this once iconic show go? </p>\n<p>Because of these misleading statements, we were inspired to educate the public on the truth behind the subjects about which he is so misinformed. This article will be one of several that focuses on his new series, <em>Bill Nye Saves the World. </em>These articles aren't meant to attack Nye's character or his fans, but rather to inform the public on these subjects in a factual, scientific manner.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This first article will focus on human health and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which is the subject discussed on episode four of the series.</p>\n\nBill Nye's Stance on GMO\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The episode begins with him explaining his personal journey on deciding whether or not he thinks GMOs are safe to consume. After what he felt was a \"skeptical\" analysis, he concluded that \"the positives outweigh the negatives\" and \"science shows that GM crops are not riskier than other farmed crops.\" He even claims that there are no studies that prove they are unsafe to eat. All of these statements are incorrect, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the science shows it. </strong></p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye says, \"I have been eating genetically modified foods for decades and I'm fine, look at me.\" This is a poor argument when it comes to human health, as everyone's bodies are different. Just because you consume lots of refined sugar and never get cancer doesn't mean that refined sugar isn't linked to cancer. The same can be said about GMOs: Just because Bill Nye isn't visibly sick and he eats GMOs doesn't mean that GMOs won't negatively affect other people's bodies. Plus, human health is not the only issue when it comes to GMOs anyways.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye then goes on to compare \"naturally genetically modified\" foods to Monsanto's creations in our supermarkets. He uses a sweet potato as an example, which was, in a way, \"genetically modified\" thousands of years ago. This type of artificial selection (or genetic modification, if you want to call it that) is not the kind we are concerned with in this particular article, as it is completely different. That was a natural process; it wasn't completed in a lab but occurred in nature itself, and does not pose the same threats to the ecosystem and our bodies as mainstream GM foods do, which is why Nye's comparison makes no sense.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sweet potato argument has been made by many corporations who benefit off the widespread use of GMOs, including Monsanto. People hear \"natural\" and \"GMO\" being used in the same sentence, and so it's easier for corporations to convince people that GMOs are natural because consumers don't understand the science behind them.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Dr Lieve Gheysen, a researcher involved with the recent study on sweet potatoes being \"natural GMOs,\" explained, \"The natural presence of Agrobacterium T-DNA in sweet potato and its stable inheritance during evolution is a beautiful example of the possibility of DNA exchange across species barriers.\"</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\"It demonstrates that genetic modification also happens in nature.\"</p>\n<p id=\"ext-gen118\" class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The study suggests that the bacterial DNA may have allowed sweet potatoes to <em>naturally</em> adapt for thousands of years, but this process is very different from current GMO technology. It didn't require monoculture, excessive pesticide usage, a science lab, or seriously risking human health, meaning that it <em>greatly </em>differs from conventional GMOs in our food system.</p>\n\nWhat Nye Gets Wrong About Glyphosate and the Risks Associated With GMOs\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye also discussed glyphosate in the episode, the active ingredient in Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, but failed to address any of the health and environmental risks associated with it. In order to understand the relationship between Monsanto, glyphosate, and GMOs, we'll need to explore the history of GMOs and the food industry first. The original purpose of GMOs was to generate super crops with superior traits (for example, drought resistance) to increase efficiency and solve certain issues such as the growing global food demand as population rises.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye actually brought this up, using population growth as an argument to support GMO usage. Public interest attorney Steve Druker perfectly sums up why this is a myth in a <em><a href=\"http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/04/150422-genetically-modified-food-agriculture-health-ngbooktalk/\">National Geographic</a></em> article, explaining:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Several studies by the UN and World Bank also concluded that genetic engineering is not needed to meet the world’s food needs. One of the directors of these studies was asked, “What role do you see for GMOs in the future of food?” He said, “Actually none. They aren’t needed. They haven’t been boosting yields. Small scale, agro-ecological methods are what’s needed in the Third World.”</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2008, the UN Conference of Trade and development supported organics instead of GMOs, saying that organic agriculture can be more conducive to food security in Africa than most conventional production systems, and is more likely to be sustainable in the long term. You can read that full report <a href=\"http://unctad.org/en/docs/ditcted200715_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nevertheless, Monsanto used this argument as an opportunity to monopolize the farming industry, so now most GMOs only carry one “superior trait”: resistance to one specific and extremely toxic herbicide, Monsanto’s Roundup. Roundup is now used all over the world, which is why Monsanto holds so much control over the global food system. This \"resistance\" allows farmers to spray their GM crops with Roundup without harming the crop.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This process does not come without extreme consequences, however. Since Roundup rapidly became the most popular herbicide used, weeds began to develop immunity to the spray, creating “super weeds,” an outcome that can significantly damage both the environment and the crop. This monopoly promotes the cultivation of a single, uniform crop, otherwise known as monoculture, which can lead to a decline in biodiversity, as it can greatly impact population dynamics and ecosystem roles.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, Roundup is directly linked with <em>numerous </em>health concerns. Over the years, many studies have been published proving that the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, can cause cancer, miscarriages, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and more.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), <a href=\"http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/06/09/monsanto-roundup-herbicide.aspx\">revealed a disturbing</a> fact: Glyphosate is possibly “the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.” <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/\">Another study</a> suggested that glyphosate can cause celiac disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney failure, miscarriages, infertility, birth defects, obesity, autism, depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and cancer.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A group of scientists put together a comprehensive review of existing data that shows how European regulators have known that Monsanto’s glyphosate causes a number of birth malformations since at least 2002. Regulators misled the public about glyphosate’s safety, and in Germany the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety told the European Commission that there was no evidence to suggest that glyphosate causes birth defects. (<a href=\"http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/07/roundup-birth-defects-herbicide-regulators_n_872862.html\">source</a>)</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report read:</p>\n\n<blockquote>Our examination of the evidence leads us to the conclusion that the current approval of glyphosate and Roundup is deeply flawed and unreliable. In this report, we examine the industry studies and regulatory documents that led to the approval of glyphosate. We show that industry and regulators knew as long ago as the 1980s and 1990s that glyphosate causes malformation – but that this information was not made public. We demonstrate how EU regulators reasoned their way from clear evidence of glyphosate’s teratogenicity in industry’s own studies to a conclusion that minimized these findings in the EU Commission’s final review report.</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even though many of the studies performed on Roundup focus on glyphosate, the herbicide as a whole is even worse. A <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3955666/\">study</a> published in the journal <em>Biomedical Research International </em>showed that Roundup is 125 times more toxic than its active ingredient glyphosate studied in isolation. The eye-opening abstract reads as follows:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pesticides are used throughout the world as mixtures called formulations. They contain adjuvants, <em>which are often kept confidential and are called inerts by the manufacturing companies, </em>plus a declared active principle, which is usually tested alone. We tested the toxicity of 9 pesticides, comparing active principles and their formulations, on three human cell lines. Glyphosate, isoproturon, fluroxypyr, pirimicarb, imidacloprid, acetamiprid, tebuconazole, epoxiconazole, and prochloraz constitute, respectively, the active principles of 3 major herbicides, 3 insecticides, and 3 fungicides.  Despite its relatively benign reputation, Roundup was among the most toxic herbicides and insecticides tested. Most importantly, 8 formulations out of 9 were up to one thousand times more toxic than their active principles. Our results challenge the relevance of the acceptable daily intake for pesticides because this norm is calculated from the toxicity of the active principle alone. Chronic tests on pesticides may not reflect relevant environmental exposures if only one ingredient of these mixtures is tested alone.</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are countless more studies that prove the dangers of GMOs, yet Nye chose not to include any of them in his episode. Who knows whether this was a decision made by him or by whomever is funding this propaganda piece, but it's clear that he did not present all of the facts.</p>\n\nSo, Why Hasn't the U.S. Government Banned GMOs?\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Numerous countries have banned the use of Monsanto’s Roundup as well as growing or selling GMOs, including Russia, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich announced that Russia had “made the decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” but the U.S. has not followed suit.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As many of you probably know, the U.S. government is largely controlled by corporations and the elite, and the situation with GMOs and the laws surrounding them is no different. The EPA even has close ties to Monsanto executives, which was exposed in a recent court case (read more about it in our CE article <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/03/15/judge-threatens-to-sanction-monsanto-for-hiding-information-while-overseeing-55-cancer-lawsuits/\">here</a>).</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jess Rowland, head of the EPA’s Cancer Assessment Review Committee (CARC), was specifically caught aiding Monsanto. A report by that committee was “accidentally” leaked to the public at a time that was favourable to Monsanto given its recent lawsuits, so there was significant debate over whether or not it was actually an accident.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https://goo.gl/E91BY4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-beacon=\"{&quot;p&quot;:{&quot;mnid&quot;:&quot;citation&quot;,&quot;mpid&quot;:10,&quot;plid&quot;:&quot;https://goo.gl/E91BY4&quot;,&quot;lnid&quot;:&quot;According to court filings &quot;}}\">According to court filings</a>, the discovery “strongly suggests that Mr. Rowland’s primary goal was to serve the interests of Monsanto.” Rowland has yet to publicly address these allegations; however, he has since left the agency and retired.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plaintiffs state that the litigation revealed documents proving that Rowland was “straining, and often breaking, ethics and rules to benefit Monsanto’s business.” Internal Monsanto communications exposed that the company pushed this report to be published immediately in order to “preempt other potential actions or inquiries about the dangers of glyphosate,” according to a court filing.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Further proof lies in the form of a letter from a former EPA scientist to Rowland stating that there were significant scientific grounds for the EPA to reclassify glyphosate from a “possible human carcinogen” to a “probable” cancer-causing agent, but clearly Rowland ignored this expert’s opinion (<a href=\"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-27/monsanto-cancer-suits-turn-to-alleged-whitewash-by-epa-official\">source</a>).</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This may not come as a surprise to many of you, as the EPA has held close ties to numerous companies that threaten the environment, not just Monsanto. For example, you can read about the head of the EPA's close ties to various oil and gas companies <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/02/24/emails-reveal-head-of-epa-scott-pruitts-corrupt-ties-to-oil-gas-industry/\">here</a>.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There has also been speculation that scientific literature on GMOs has been censored in North America. For example, the only long term study that has ever been conducted on GMOs was published in November 2012 in the <em>Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology </em>by Gilles-Eric Seralini and his team of researchers at France’s Caen University <a href=\"http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691512005637\" target=\"_blank\">(source)</a>. The study found severe liver and kidney damage as well as hormonal disturbances in rats fed with GM maize in conjunction with low levels of Roundup that were below those permitted in most drinking water across Europe. Results also indicated high rates of large tumours and mortality in most treatment groups.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The study was retracted in North America, but then republished in multiple journals in Europe, one of them being <i>Environmental Sciences Europe </i><a href=\"http://www.enveurope.com/content/26/1/14\" target=\"_blank\">(source)</a>. The North American retraction was largely due to strong commercial pressure from North American biotech companies, like Monsanto. The republished studies in Europe were even more up-to-date and settled any concerns that were raised about the retracted study, yet North America chose not to republish it.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The retraction was likely a political decision, which unfortunately is a huge issue when it comes to modern science in North America. Scientists no longer have the same freedom they once enjoyed to study and publish whatever they want because of significant pressure from the government and corporations.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This fact was also made clear by WikiLeaks documents:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Resistance to the advent of genetically modified foods has been pronounced across Europe. The continent features some of the strictest regulations governing the use and cultivation of GMO products, and public skepticism about biotech goods is quite high—a fact not lost on American diplomats. In a lengthy report dating from late 2007, a cable issued by the State Department outlined its “Biotechnology Outreach Strategy,\" which, among other things, recognized the European Union’s \"negative views on biology\" and committed as a national priority to limiting them (O7STATE160639). . . .</p>\n</blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Initial attention paid to the State Department’s part in pushing industrial manufactures on its allies obscured the even bigger role it played in assuring a place for genetically modified agricultural products (GMOs) in a region that largely wanted nothing to do with them. The American campaign promoting biotech products was a worldwide effort. In all, some 1,000 documents from the Cablegate cache address this effort, a significant number of which originate in Europe. U.S. diplomats on the continent gave considerable attention to insuring the interests of American biotech firms in Europe—<strong>whether through “education” programs, government lobbying, or outright coercion—as well as stripping down European Union regulations designed to act as a bugger against them. Instead of including an unbiased panel of scientists to discuss the subject, he chose a higher up from the main company that's responsible for all of this controversy.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye actually asks him, “Why does everyone hate Monsanto?” As if he'd provide an honest answer. When it comes to GMOs, Monsanto is only concerned with profit, not the environmental or health risks that come along with them.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">“At a time when fake news is prevalent in our society, communication about science and restoring trust in the field has never been more important,” Fraley explained. “I was excited and honoured to be part of the show to help distinguish fact from fiction when it comes to GMOs. The fact is that GMOs are safe, effective and benefit the environment.”</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, now Bill Nye has associated fake news with questioning the safety of GMOs. This is precisely the issue with science in North America: We can no longer question it without being associated with fake news or conspiracy. However, isn't that the point of science, to question everything in order to find the truth? Any scientist with integrity could look at these studies and admit that GMOs require a lot more testing in order to be deemed safe, if ever. This begs the question: Who is funding this episode of <em>Bill Nye Saves The World</em>?</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though the answer to this question is unclear, I'd like to point out that infamous investor and businessman George Soros reported at the end of 2015 that he owns <a href=\"https://www.thestreet.com/story/13377046/1/is-george-soros-right-to-bet-so-heavily-on-netflix.html\">317,534 Netflix shares</a>, which has an estimated worth of $32.79 million. If you’ve never heard of Soros, he is a key member of the elite, or the <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2016/10/18/15-quotes-on-false-flag-terrorism-the-secret-government-that-will-make-you-rethink-your-patriotism/\">shadow government</a>, disguised as a philanthropic billionaire.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soros is well-known for financing and donating heavily to “left” groups in order to create further division and political turmoil, as he played a hand in creating the Black Lives Matter and Women’s March movements. Soros started making strategic political donations to essentially fund revolutions in different European countries and made a fortune amidst the chaos, and now he's doing the exact same thing in the U.S. He also made a killing off European <a href=\"https://www.rt.com/op-edge/361376-george-soros-investing-forced-immigration/\">forced migration</a> and other <a href=\"http://thefreethoughtproject.com/soros-trump-protests-revolution/\">colour revolutions</a>.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This isn't the first time that Netflix has produced something that appears to be more propaganda than fact; for example, when Netflix launched <em>The White Helmets</em>, a fake documentary on the Syrian war. You can read more about that <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/03/01/who-are-the-white-helmets-do-we-really-know-what-they-are-doing-in-syria/\">here</a>. Though it's unclear if Soros holds any ties to Nye's show, it certainly makes you wonder whether or not the series falls under the elite's agenda. Given the subject matter of many of the episodes and the extremely biased, unscientific stances Nye holds, this wouldn't be surprising.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If Nye had presented a scientific argument on why he supports GMOs, that would be far more acceptable. Instead, he chose to only explore one side of the story, not giving his viewers the full picture. I hope that, if anything, this article taught you to critically think about <em>everything </em>you are watching or listening to. We can no longer simply trust news stations, scientists, doctors, and other people with \"high-ranking\" statuses. We need to learn to think for ourselves and to do our own research, because often times we aren't being presented with both sides of the story.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To be clear, this article is not meant to vilify Bill Nye. For all we know, Nye could have no idea that he isn't presenting all of the facts; he may truly believe he's taking a scientific stance. At the end of the day, he's also an actor and his show is doing pretty well, so he could see that as being successful. There's no way to know what his motive here was, so there's no point in hating on him.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What's important is that we continue to spread knowledge, and seek the truth. Be open minded and critically think about everything, regardless of who's presenting the information. Bill Nye may not be a 'science guy,' but the good news is that you can be! Educate yourself and keep an open mind — that's the only way we can raise consciousness together.</p>\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;",

      "body": "<p>When I first found out that 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' was making a comeback, I was stoked! My inner child surfaced and I immediately started reminiscing over watching episodes of his old show in my science classes in junior high school. I could see the potential for positive change by having someone so many people knew and loved during their childhoods host a show on science. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the new series was less of a science lesson and more of a political propaganda piece.</p>\n<p>Instead of presenting his viewers with science, he takes a biased, unscientific stance on many subjects. Not only that, but he blatantly makes fun of spirituality, other cultures, and ideas that have been scientifically proven \n\nHis tone is condescending and many of his \"scientific claims\" are simply incorrect, which begs the questions: Who is funding this propaganda campaign, and where did the science in this once iconic show go? </p>\n<p>Because of these misleading statements, we were inspired to educate the public on the truth behind the subjects about which he is so misinformed. This article will be one of several that focuses on his new series, <em>Bill Nye Saves the World. </em>These articles aren't meant to attack Nye's character or his fans, but rather to inform the public on these subjects in a factual, scientific manner.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This first article will focus on human health and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which is the subject discussed on episode four of the series.</p>\n\nBill Nye's Stance on GMO\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The episode begins with him explaining his personal journey on deciding whether or not he thinks GMOs are safe to consume. After what he felt was a \"skeptical\" analysis, he concluded that \"the positives outweigh the negatives\" and \"science shows that GM crops are not riskier than other farmed crops.\" He even claims that there are no studies that prove they are unsafe to eat. All of these statements are incorrect, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the science shows it. </strong></p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye says, \"I have been eating genetically modified foods for decades and I'm fine, look at me.\" This is a poor argument when it comes to human health, as everyone's bodies are different. Just because you consume lots of refined sugar and never get cancer doesn't mean that refined sugar isn't linked to cancer. The same can be said about GMOs: Just because Bill Nye isn't visibly sick and he eats GMOs doesn't mean that GMOs won't negatively affect other people's bodies. Plus, human health is not the only issue when it comes to GMOs anyways.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye then goes on to compare \"naturally genetically modified\" foods to Monsanto's creations in our supermarkets. He uses a sweet potato as an example, which was, in a way, \"genetically modified\" thousands of years ago. This type of artificial selection (or genetic modification, if you want to call it that) is not the kind we are concerned with in this particular article, as it is completely different. That was a natural process; it wasn't completed in a lab but occurred in nature itself, and does not pose the same threats to the ecosystem and our bodies as mainstream GM foods do, which is why Nye's comparison makes no sense.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sweet potato argument has been made by many corporations who benefit off the widespread use of GMOs, including Monsanto. People hear \"natural\" and \"GMO\" being used in the same sentence, and so it's easier for corporations to convince people that GMOs are natural because consumers don't understand the science behind them.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Dr Lieve Gheysen, a researcher involved with the recent study on sweet potatoes being \"natural GMOs,\" explained, \"The natural presence of Agrobacterium T-DNA in sweet potato and its stable inheritance during evolution is a beautiful example of the possibility of DNA exchange across species barriers.\"</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\"It demonstrates that genetic modification also happens in nature.\"</p>\n<p id=\"ext-gen118\" class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The study suggests that the bacterial DNA may have allowed sweet potatoes to <em>naturally</em> adapt for thousands of years, but this process is very different from current GMO technology. It didn't require monoculture, excessive pesticide usage, a science lab, or seriously risking human health, meaning that it <em>greatly </em>differs from conventional GMOs in our food system.</p>\n\nWhat Nye Gets Wrong About Glyphosate and the Risks Associated With GMOs\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye also discussed glyphosate in the episode, the active ingredient in Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, but failed to address any of the health and environmental risks associated with it. In order to understand the relationship between Monsanto, glyphosate, and GMOs, we'll need to explore the history of GMOs and the food industry first. The original purpose of GMOs was to generate super crops with superior traits (for example, drought resistance) to increase efficiency and solve certain issues such as the growing global food demand as population rises.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye actually brought this up, using population growth as an argument to support GMO usage. Public interest attorney Steve Druker perfectly sums up why this is a myth in a <em><a href=\"http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/04/150422-genetically-modified-food-agriculture-health-ngbooktalk/\">National Geographic</a></em> article, explaining:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Several studies by the UN and World Bank also concluded that genetic engineering is not needed to meet the world’s food needs. One of the directors of these studies was asked, “What role do you see for GMOs in the future of food?” He said, “Actually none. They aren’t needed. They haven’t been boosting yields. Small scale, agro-ecological methods are what’s needed in the Third World.”</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2008, the UN Conference of Trade and development supported organics instead of GMOs, saying that organic agriculture can be more conducive to food security in Africa than most conventional production systems, and is more likely to be sustainable in the long term. You can read that full report <a href=\"http://unctad.org/en/docs/ditcted200715_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nevertheless, Monsanto used this argument as an opportunity to monopolize the farming industry, so now most GMOs only carry one “superior trait”: resistance to one specific and extremely toxic herbicide, Monsanto’s Roundup. Roundup is now used all over the world, which is why Monsanto holds so much control over the global food system. This \"resistance\" allows farmers to spray their GM crops with Roundup without harming the crop.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This process does not come without extreme consequences, however. Since Roundup rapidly became the most popular herbicide used, weeds began to develop immunity to the spray, creating “super weeds,” an outcome that can significantly damage both the environment and the crop. This monopoly promotes the cultivation of a single, uniform crop, otherwise known as monoculture, which can lead to a decline in biodiversity, as it can greatly impact population dynamics and ecosystem roles.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, Roundup is directly linked with <em>numerous </em>health concerns. Over the years, many studies have been published proving that the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, can cause cancer, miscarriages, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and more.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), <a href=\"http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/06/09/monsanto-roundup-herbicide.aspx\">revealed a disturbing</a> fact: Glyphosate is possibly “the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.” <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/\">Another study</a> suggested that glyphosate can cause celiac disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney failure, miscarriages, infertility, birth defects, obesity, autism, depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and cancer.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A group of scientists put together a comprehensive review of existing data that shows how European regulators have known that Monsanto’s glyphosate causes a number of birth malformations since at least 2002. Regulators misled the public about glyphosate’s safety, and in Germany the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety told the European Commission that there was no evidence to suggest that glyphosate causes birth defects. (<a href=\"http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/07/roundup-birth-defects-herbicide-regulators_n_872862.html\">source</a>)</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report read:</p>\n\n<blockquote>Our examination of the evidence leads us to the conclusion that the current approval of glyphosate and Roundup is deeply flawed and unreliable. In this report, we examine the industry studies and regulatory documents that led to the approval of glyphosate. We show that industry and regulators knew as long ago as the 1980s and 1990s that glyphosate causes malformation – but that this information was not made public. We demonstrate how EU regulators reasoned their way from clear evidence of glyphosate’s teratogenicity in industry’s own studies to a conclusion that minimized these findings in the EU Commission’s final review report.</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even though many of the studies performed on Roundup focus on glyphosate, the herbicide as a whole is even worse. A <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3955666/\">study</a> published in the journal <em>Biomedical Research International </em>showed that Roundup is 125 times more toxic than its active ingredient glyphosate studied in isolation. The eye-opening abstract reads as follows:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pesticides are used throughout the world as mixtures called formulations. They contain adjuvants, <em>which are often kept confidential and are called inerts by the manufacturing companies, </em>plus a declared active principle, which is usually tested alone. We tested the toxicity of 9 pesticides, comparing active principles and their formulations, on three human cell lines. Glyphosate, isoproturon, fluroxypyr, pirimicarb, imidacloprid, acetamiprid, tebuconazole, epoxiconazole, and prochloraz constitute, respectively, the active principles of 3 major herbicides, 3 insecticides, and 3 fungicides.  Despite its relatively benign reputation, Roundup was among the most toxic herbicides and insecticides tested. Most importantly, 8 formulations out of 9 were up to one thousand times more toxic than their active principles. Our results challenge the relevance of the acceptable daily intake for pesticides because this norm is calculated from the toxicity of the active principle alone. Chronic tests on pesticides may not reflect relevant environmental exposures if only one ingredient of these mixtures is tested alone.</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are countless more studies that prove the dangers of GMOs, yet Nye chose not to include any of them in his episode. Who knows whether this was a decision made by him or by whomever is funding this propaganda piece, but it's clear that he did not present all of the facts.</p>\n\nSo, Why Hasn't the U.S. Government Banned GMOs?\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Numerous countries have banned the use of Monsanto’s Roundup as well as growing or selling GMOs, including Russia, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich announced that Russia had “made the decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” but the U.S. has not followed suit.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As many of you probably know, the U.S. government is largely controlled by corporations and the elite, and the situation with GMOs and the laws surrounding them is no different. The EPA even has close ties to Monsanto executives, which was exposed in a recent court case (read more about it in our CE article <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/03/15/judge-threatens-to-sanction-monsanto-for-hiding-information-while-overseeing-55-cancer-lawsuits/\">here</a>).</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jess Rowland, head of the EPA’s Cancer Assessment Review Committee (CARC), was specifically caught aiding Monsanto. A report by that committee was “accidentally” leaked to the public at a time that was favourable to Monsanto given its recent lawsuits, so there was significant debate over whether or not it was actually an accident.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https://goo.gl/E91BY4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-beacon=\"{&quot;p&quot;:{&quot;mnid&quot;:&quot;citation&quot;,&quot;mpid&quot;:10,&quot;plid&quot;:&quot;https://goo.gl/E91BY4&quot;,&quot;lnid&quot;:&quot;According to court filings &quot;}}\">According to court filings</a>, the discovery “strongly suggests that Mr. Rowland’s primary goal was to serve the interests of Monsanto.” Rowland has yet to publicly address these allegations; however, he has since left the agency and retired.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plaintiffs state that the litigation revealed documents proving that Rowland was “straining, and often breaking, ethics and rules to benefit Monsanto’s business.” Internal Monsanto communications exposed that the company pushed this report to be published immediately in order to “preempt other potential actions or inquiries about the dangers of glyphosate,” according to a court filing.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Further proof lies in the form of a letter from a former EPA scientist to Rowland stating that there were significant scientific grounds for the EPA to reclassify glyphosate from a “possible human carcinogen” to a “probable” cancer-causing agent, but clearly Rowland ignored this expert’s opinion (<a href=\"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-27/monsanto-cancer-suits-turn-to-alleged-whitewash-by-epa-official\">source</a>).</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This may not come as a surprise to many of you, as the EPA has held close ties to numerous companies that threaten the environment, not just Monsanto. For example, you can read about the head of the EPA's close ties to various oil and gas companies <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/02/24/emails-reveal-head-of-epa-scott-pruitts-corrupt-ties-to-oil-gas-industry/\">here</a>.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There has also been speculation that scientific literature on GMOs has been censored in North America. For example, the only long term study that has ever been conducted on GMOs was published in November 2012 in the <em>Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology </em>by Gilles-Eric Seralini and his team of researchers at France’s Caen University <a href=\"http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691512005637\" target=\"_blank\">(source)</a>. The study found severe liver and kidney damage as well as hormonal disturbances in rats fed with GM maize in conjunction with low levels of Roundup that were below those permitted in most drinking water across Europe. Results also indicated high rates of large tumours and mortality in most treatment groups.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The study was retracted in North America, but then republished in multiple journals in Europe, one of them being <i>Environmental Sciences Europe </i><a href=\"http://www.enveurope.com/content/26/1/14\" target=\"_blank\">(source)</a>. The North American retraction was largely due to strong commercial pressure from North American biotech companies, like Monsanto. The republished studies in Europe were even more up-to-date and settled any concerns that were raised about the retracted study, yet North America chose not to republish it.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The retraction was likely a political decision, which unfortunately is a huge issue when it comes to modern science in North America. Scientists no longer have the same freedom they once enjoyed to study and publish whatever they want because of significant pressure from the government and corporations.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This fact was also made clear by WikiLeaks documents:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Resistance to the advent of genetically modified foods has been pronounced across Europe. The continent features some of the strictest regulations governing the use and cultivation of GMO products, and public skepticism about biotech goods is quite high—a fact not lost on American diplomats. In a lengthy report dating from late 2007, a cable issued by the State Department outlined its “Biotechnology Outreach Strategy,\" which, among other things, recognized the European Union’s \"negative views on biology\" and committed as a national priority to limiting them (O7STATE160639). . . .</p>\n</blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Initial attention paid to the State Department’s part in pushing industrial manufactures on its allies obscured the even bigger role it played in assuring a place for genetically modified agricultural products (GMOs) in a region that largely wanted nothing to do with them. The American campaign promoting biotech products was a worldwide effort. In all, some 1,000 documents from the Cablegate cache address this effort, a significant number of which originate in Europe. U.S. diplomats on the continent gave considerable attention to insuring the interests of American biotech firms in Europe—<strong>whether through “education” programs, government lobbying, or outright coercion—as well as stripping down European Union regulations designed to act as a bugger against them. Instead of including an unbiased panel of scientists to discuss the subject, he chose a higher up from the main company that's responsible for all of this controversy.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nye actually asks him, “Why does everyone hate Monsanto?” As if he'd provide an honest answer. When it comes to GMOs, Monsanto is only concerned with profit, not the environmental or health risks that come along with them.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">“At a time when fake news is prevalent in our society, communication about science and restoring trust in the field has never been more important,” Fraley explained. “I was excited and honoured to be part of the show to help distinguish fact from fiction when it comes to GMOs. The fact is that GMOs are safe, effective and benefit the environment.”</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, now Bill Nye has associated fake news with questioning the safety of GMOs. This is precisely the issue with science in North America: We can no longer question it without being associated with fake news or conspiracy. However, isn't that the point of science, to question everything in order to find the truth? Any scientist with integrity could look at these studies and admit that GMOs require a lot more testing in order to be deemed safe, if ever. This begs the question: Who is funding this episode of <em>Bill Nye Saves The World</em>?</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though the answer to this question is unclear, I'd like to point out that infamous investor and businessman George Soros reported at the end of 2015 that he owns <a href=\"https://www.thestreet.com/story/13377046/1/is-george-soros-right-to-bet-so-heavily-on-netflix.html\">317,534 Netflix shares</a>, which has an estimated worth of $32.79 million. If you’ve never heard of Soros, he is a key member of the elite, or the <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2016/10/18/15-quotes-on-false-flag-terrorism-the-secret-government-that-will-make-you-rethink-your-patriotism/\">shadow government</a>, disguised as a philanthropic billionaire.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soros is well-known for financing and donating heavily to “left” groups in order to create further division and political turmoil, as he played a hand in creating the Black Lives Matter and Women’s March movements. Soros started making strategic political donations to essentially fund revolutions in different European countries and made a fortune amidst the chaos, and now he's doing the exact same thing in the U.S. He also made a killing off European <a href=\"https://www.rt.com/op-edge/361376-george-soros-investing-forced-immigration/\">forced migration</a> and other <a href=\"http://thefreethoughtproject.com/soros-trump-protests-revolution/\">colour revolutions</a>.</p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This isn't the first time that Netflix has produced something that appears to be more propaganda than fact; for example, when Netflix launched <em>The White Helmets</em>, a fake documentary on the Syrian war. You can read more about that <a href=\"http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/03/01/who-are-the-white-helmets-do-we-really-know-what-they-are-doing-in-syria/\">here</a>. Though it's unclear if Soros holds any ties to Nye's show, it certainly makes you wonder whether or not the series falls under the elite's agenda. Given the subject matter of many of the episodes and the extremely biased, unscientific stances Nye holds, this wouldn't be surprising.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If Nye had presented a scientific argument on why he supports GMOs, that would be far more acceptable. Instead, he chose to only explore one side of the story, not giving his viewers the full picture. I hope that, if anything, this article taught you to critically think about <em>everything </em>you are watching or listening to. We can no longer simply trust news stations, scientists, doctors, and other people with \"high-ranking\" statuses. We need to learn to think for ourselves and to do our own research, because often times we aren't being presented with both sides of the story.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To be clear, this article is not meant to vilify Bill Nye. For all we know, Nye could have no idea that he isn't presenting all of the facts; he may truly believe he's taking a scientific stance. At the end of the day, he's also an actor and his show is doing pretty well, so he could see that as being successful. There's no way to know what his motive here was, so there's no point in hating on him.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What's important is that we continue to spread knowledge, and seek the truth. Be open minded and critically think about everything, regardless of who's presenting the information. Bill Nye may not be a 'science guy,' but the good news is that you can be! Educate yourself and keep an open mind — that's the only way we can raise consciousness together.</p>\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;",

      "body": "<html>\n<p>When I first found out that 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' was making a comeback, I was stoked! My inner child surfaced and I immediately started reminiscing over watching episodes of his old show in my science classes in junior high school. I could see the potential for positive change by having someone so many people knew and loved during their childhoods host a show on science. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the new series was less of a science lesson and more of a political propaganda piece.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Instead of presenting his viewers with science, he takes a biased, unscientific stance on many subjects. Not only that, but he blatantly makes fun of spirituality, other cultures, and ideas that have been scientifically proven as well. His tone is condescending and many of his \"scientific claims\" are simply incorrect, which begs the questions: Who is funding this propaganda campaign, and where did the science in this once iconic show go?&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Because of these misleading statements, we were inspired to educate the public on the truth behind the subjects about which he is so misinformed. This article will be one of several that focuses on his new series, Bill Nye Saves the World. These articles aren't meant to attack Nye's character or his fans, but rather to inform the public on these subjects in a factual, scientific manner.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This first article will focus on human health and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which is the subject discussed on episode four of the series.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Bill Nye's Stance on GMOs</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The episode begins with him explaining his personal journey on deciding whether or not he thinks GMOs are safe to consume. After what he felt was a \"skeptical\" analysis, he concluded that \"the positives outweigh the negatives\" and \"science shows that GM crops are not riskier than other farmed crops.\" He even claims that there are no studies that prove they are unsafe to eat. All of these statements are incorrect, and the science shows it.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nye says, \"I have been eating genetically modified foods for decades and I'm fine, look at me.\" This is a poor argument when it comes to human health, as everyone's bodies are different. Just because you consume lots of refined sugar and never get cancer doesn't mean that refined sugar isn't linked to cancer. The same can be said about GMOs: Just because Bill Nye isn't visibly sick and he eats GMOs doesn't mean that GMOs won't negatively affect other people's bodies. Plus, human health is not the only issue when it comes to GMOs anyways.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nye then goes on to compare \"naturally genetically modified\" foods to Monsanto's creations in our supermarkets. He uses a sweet potato as an example, which was, in a way, \"genetically modified\" thousands of years ago. This type of artificial selection (or genetic modification, if you want to call it that) is not the kind we are concerned with in this particular article, as it is completely different. That was a natural process; it wasn't completed in a lab but occurred in nature itself, and does not pose the same threats to the ecosystem and our bodies as mainstream GM foods do, which is why Nye's comparison makes no sense.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The sweet potato argument has been made by many corporations who benefit off the widespread use of GMOs, including Monsanto. People hear \"natural\" and \"GMO\" being used in the same sentence, and so it's easier for corporations to convince people that GMOs are natural because consumers don't understand the science behind them.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>As Dr Lieve Gheysen, a researcher involved with the recent study on sweet potatoes being \"natural GMOs,\" explained, \"The natural presence of Agrobacterium T-DNA in sweet potato and its stable inheritance during evolution is a beautiful example of the possibility of DNA exchange across species barriers.\"</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>\"It demonstrates that genetic modification also happens in nature.\"</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The study suggests that the bacterial DNA may have allowed sweet potatoes to naturally adapt for thousands of years, but this process is very different from current GMO technology. It didn't require monoculture, excessive pesticide usage, a science lab, or seriously risking human health, meaning that it greatly differs from conventional GMOs in our food system.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>What Nye Gets Wrong About Glyphosate and the Risks Associated With GMOs</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nye also discussed glyphosate in the episode, the active ingredient in Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, but failed to address any of the health and environmental risks associated with it. In order to understand the relationship between Monsanto, glyphosate, and GMOs, we'll need to explore the history of GMOs and the food industry first. The original purpose of GMOs was to generate super crops with superior traits (for example, drought resistance) to increase efficiency and solve certain issues such as the growing global food demand as population rises.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nye actually brought this up, using population growth as an argument to support GMO usage. Public interest attorney Steve Druker perfectly sums up why this is a myth in a National Geographic article, explaining:</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Several studies by the UN and World Bank also concluded that genetic engineering is not needed to meet the world’s food needs. One of the directors of these studies was asked, “What role do you see for GMOs in the future of food?” He said, “Actually none. They aren’t needed. They haven’t been boosting yields. Small scale, agro-ecological methods are what’s needed in the Third World.”</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>In 2008, the UN Conference of Trade and development supported organics instead of GMOs, saying that organic agriculture can be more conducive to food security in Africa than most conventional production systems, and is more likely to be sustainable in the long term. You can read that full report here.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Monsanto used this argument as an opportunity to monopolize the farming industry, so now most GMOs only carry one “superior trait”: resistance to one specific and extremely toxic herbicide, Monsanto’s Roundup. Roundup is now used all over the world, which is why Monsanto holds so much control over the global food system. This \"resistance\" allows farmers to spray their GM crops with Roundup without harming the crop.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This process does not come without extreme consequences, however. Since Roundup rapidly became the most popular herbicide used, weeds began to develop immunity to the spray, creating “super weeds,” an outcome that can significantly damage both the environment and the crop. This monopoly promotes the cultivation of a single, uniform crop, otherwise known as monoculture, which can lead to a decline in biodiversity, as it can greatly impact population dynamics and ecosystem roles.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>In addition, Roundup is directly linked with numerous health concerns. Over the years, many studies have been published proving that the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, can cause cancer, miscarriages, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and more.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), revealed a disturbing fact: Glyphosate is possibly “the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.” Another study suggested that glyphosate can cause celiac disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney failure, miscarriages, infertility, birth defects, obesity, autism, depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and cancer.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>A group of scientists put together a comprehensive review of existing data that shows how European regulators have known that Monsanto’s glyphosate causes a number of birth malformations since at least 2002. Regulators misled the public about glyphosate’s safety, and in Germany the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety told the European Commission that there was no evidence to suggest that glyphosate causes birth defects. (source)</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The report read:</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Our examination of the evidence leads us to the conclusion that the current approval of glyphosate and Roundup is deeply flawed and unreliable. In this report, we examine the industry studies and regulatory documents that led to the approval of glyphosate. We show that industry and regulators knew as long ago as the 1980s and 1990s that glyphosate causes malformation – but that this information was not made public. We demonstrate how EU regulators reasoned their way from clear evidence of glyphosate’s teratogenicity in industry’s own studies to a conclusion that minimized these findings in the EU Commission’s final review report.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Even though many of the studies performed on Roundup focus on glyphosate, the herbicide as a whole is even worse. A study published in the journal Biomedical Research International showed that Roundup is 125 times more toxic than its active ingredient glyphosate studied in isolation. The eye-opening abstract reads as follows:</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Pesticides are used throughout the world as mixtures called formulations. They contain adjuvants, which are often kept confidential and are called inerts by the manufacturing companies, plus a declared active principle, which is usually tested alone. We tested the toxicity of 9 pesticides, comparing active principles and their formulations, on three human cell lines. Glyphosate, isoproturon, fluroxypyr, pirimicarb, imidacloprid, acetamiprid, tebuconazole, epoxiconazole, and prochloraz constitute, respectively, the active principles of 3 major herbicides, 3 insecticides, and 3 fungicides. &nbsp;Despite its relatively benign reputation, Roundup was among the most toxic herbicides and insecticides tested. Most importantly, 8 formulations out of 9 were up to one thousand times more toxic than their active principles. Our results challenge the relevance of the acceptable daily intake for pesticides because this norm is calculated from the toxicity of the active principle alone. Chronic tests on pesticides may not reflect relevant environmental exposures if only one ingredient of these mixtures is tested alone.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>There are countless more studies that prove the dangers of GMOs, yet Nye chose not to include any of them in his episode. Who knows whether this was a decision made by him or by whomever is funding this propaganda piece, but it's clear that he did not present all of the facts.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>So, Why Hasn't the U.S. Government Banned GMOs?</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Numerous countries have banned the use of Monsanto’s Roundup as well as growing or selling GMOs, including Russia, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich announced that Russia had “made the decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” but the U.S. has not followed suit.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>As many of you probably know, the U.S. government is largely controlled by corporations and the elite, and the situation with GMOs and the laws surrounding them is no different. The EPA even has close ties to Monsanto executives, which was exposed in a recent court case (read more about it in our CE article here).</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Jess Rowland, head of the EPA’s Cancer Assessment Review Committee (CARC), was specifically caught aiding Monsanto. A report by that committee was “accidentally” leaked to the public at a time that was favourable to Monsanto given its recent lawsuits, so there was significant debate over whether or not it was actually an accident.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>According to court filings, the discovery “strongly suggests that Mr. Rowland’s primary goal was to serve the interests of Monsanto.” Rowland has yet to publicly address these allegations; however, he has since left the agency and retired.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Plaintiffs state that the litigation revealed documents proving that Rowland was “straining, and often breaking, ethics and rules to benefit Monsanto’s business.” Internal Monsanto communications exposed that the company pushed this report to be published immediately in order to “preempt other potential actions or inquiries about the dangers of glyphosate,” according to a court filing.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Further proof lies in the form of a letter from a former EPA scientist to Rowland stating that there were significant scientific grounds for the EPA to reclassify glyphosate from a “possible human carcinogen” to a “probable” cancer-causing agent, but clearly Rowland ignored this expert’s opinion (source).</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This may not come as a surprise to many of you, as the EPA has held close ties to numerous companies that threaten the environment, not just Monsanto. For example, you can read about the head of the EPA's close ties to various oil and gas companies here.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>There has also been speculation that scientific literature on GMOs has been censored in North America. For example, the only long term study that has ever been conducted on GMOs was published in November 2012 in the Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology by Gilles-Eric Seralini and his team of researchers at France’s Caen University (source). The study found severe liver and kidney damage as well as hormonal disturbances in rats fed with GM maize in conjunction with low levels of Roundup that were below those permitted in most drinking water across Europe. Results also indicated high rates of large tumours and mortality in most treatment groups.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The study was retracted in North America, but then republished in multiple journals in Europe, one of them being Environmental Sciences Europe (source). The North American retraction was largely due to strong commercial pressure from North American biotech companies, like Monsanto. The republished studies in Europe were even more up-to-date and settled any concerns that were raised about the retracted study, yet North America chose not to republish it.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The retraction was likely a political decision, which unfortunately is a huge issue when it comes to modern science in North America. Scientists no longer have the same freedom they once enjoyed to study and publish whatever they want because of significant pressure from the government and corporations.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This fact was also made clear by WikiLeaks documents:</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Resistance to the advent of genetically modified foods has been pronounced across Europe. The continent features some of the strictest regulations governing the use and cultivation of GMO products, and public skepticism about biotech goods is quite high—a fact not lost on American diplomats. In a lengthy report dating from late 2007, a cable issued by the State Department outlined its “Biotechnology Outreach Strategy,\" which, among other things, recognized the European Union’s \"negative views on biology\" and committed as a national priority to limiting them (O7STATE160639). . . .</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Initial attention paid to the State Department’s part in pushing industrial manufactures on its allies obscured the even bigger role it played in assuring a place for genetically modified agricultural products (GMOs) in a region that largely wanted nothing to do with them. The American campaign promoting biotech products was a worldwide effort. In all, some 1,000 documents from the Cablegate cache address this effort, a significant number of which originate in Europe. U.S. diplomats on the continent gave considerable attention to insuring the interests of American biotech firms in Europe—whether through “education” programs, government lobbying, or outright coercion—as well as stripping down European Union regulations designed to act as a bugger against them. Instead of including an unbiased panel of scientists to discuss the subject, he chose a higher up from the main company that's responsible for all of this controversy.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Nye actually asks him, “Why does everyone hate Monsanto?” As if he'd provide an honest answer. When it comes to GMOs, Monsanto is only concerned with profit, not the environmental or health risks that come along with them.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>“At a time when fake news is prevalent in our society, communication about science and restoring trust in the field has never been more important,” Fraley explained. “I was excited and honoured to be part of the show to help distinguish fact from fiction when it comes to GMOs. The fact is that GMOs are safe, effective and benefit the environment.”</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>So, now Bill Nye has associated fake news with questioning the safety of GMOs. This is precisely the issue with science in North America: We can no longer question it without being associated with fake news or conspiracy. However, isn't that the point of science, to question everything in order to find the truth? Any scientist with integrity could look at these studies and admit that GMOs require a lot more testing in order to be deemed safe, if ever. This begs the question: Who is funding this episode of Bill Nye Saves The World?</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Though the answer to this question is unclear, I'd like to point out that infamous investor and businessman George Soros reported at the end of 2015 that he owns 317,534 Netflix shares, which has an estimated worth of $32.79 million. If you’ve never heard of Soros, he is a key member of the elite, or the shadow government, disguised as a philanthropic billionaire.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Soros is well-known for financing and donating heavily to “left” groups in order to create further division and political turmoil, as he played a hand in creating the Black Lives Matter and Women’s March movements. Soros started making strategic political donations to essentially fund revolutions in different European countries and made a fortune amidst the chaos, and now he's doing the exact same thing in the U.S. He also made a killing off European forced migration and other colour revolutions.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This isn't the first time that Netflix has produced something that appears to be more propaganda than fact; for example, when Netflix launched The White Helmets, a fake documentary on the Syrian war. You can read more about that here. Though it's unclear if Soros holds any ties to Nye's show, it certainly makes you wonder whether or not the series falls under the elite's agenda. Given the subject matter of many of the episodes and the extremely biased, unscientific stances Nye holds, this wouldn't be surprising.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>If Nye had presented a scientific argument on why he supports GMOs, that would be far more acceptable. Instead, he chose to only explore one side of the story, not giving his viewers the full picture. I hope that, if anything, this article taught you to critically think about everything you are watching or listening to. We can no longer simply trust news stations, scientists, doctors, and other people with \"high-ranking\" statuses. We need to learn to think for ourselves and to do our own research, because often times we aren't being presented with both sides of the story.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>To be clear, this article is not meant to vilify Bill Nye. For all we know, Nye could have no idea that he isn't presenting all of the facts; he may truly believe he's taking a scientific stance. At the end of the day, he's also an actor and his show is doing pretty well, so he could see that as being successful. There's no way to know what his motive here was, so there's no point in hating on him.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>What's important is that we continue to spread knowledge, and seek the truth. Be open minded and critically think about everything, regardless of who's presenting the information. Bill Nye may not be a 'science guy,' but the good news is that you can be!
