      "body": "In first trying to understand what exactly is the *Waves Platform*, I think it makes sense to break things up into bite sized pieces.\n\nI won’t go into a boring history lesson on Waves, because you can easily do that, by opening your Brave browser and searching **“Waves Platform.”**\n\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/9857655814.jpeg)\n\nThere are many components (pieces) to comprehend when it comes to the Waves Platform. I want to first alleviate any uncertainty about the word “platform” because that in and of itself can begin to cause the proverbial “deer in the headlights” look even for some that have experience in this crypto space.\n\nJust think of “platform” as a house. And just like a house, there are different rooms (the living room, the dining room, kitchen, etc.)  in that house, the Waves Platform also has its own “rooms”.\n\nFor the purposes of this article, the Waves Platform or Waves House is what I will discuss today and explain some of the rooms inside of the house. There are seven main parts that I want to briefly discuss in this article:\n\n**1. The Waves Lite Client**\n**2.\tWaves Mobile Application**\n**3.\tCustom Application Tokens (CATs)**\n**4.\tTokens Flexibility**\n**5.\tWaves Decentralized Exchange**\n**6.\t Fiat and Digital Currencies on Waves**\n**7.\tProof of Stake Rewards**\n\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/9860c25f5b.jpeg)\n\n**The Waves Lite Client**\nThe Waves Lite Client, is the program that allow you to use the additional features within Waves. The Waves Lite Client is simple to use, therein lies the reasoning behind its use of the word “Lite” in its name. Lite mean, simple, easy to use, and takes up relatively no space on your computer. This is possibly because, unlike for regular crypto wallets, the blockchains does not have to be downloaded.\n\nYou might have heard of a term being thrown around in the blockchain/crypto sector, that being, wallet.\n\nJust think of a wallet as you would a traditional physical wallet, but only one slight difference it is now digital and you can have a digital wallet loaded on your computer.\n\nThe Waves Lite Client is available as a Google Chrome plug-in (https://wavesplatform.com/downloads.html)  or as stand-alone client on GitHub (https://github.com/wavesplatform/WavesGUI/releases)\n\nOr you can go here for downloads of the Waves Lite Client:\n(https://wavesplatform.com/downloads.html)\n\nHere is a print screen shot of the Waves Lite Client:\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/9847b7b102.jpeg)\n \n**Waves Mobile Application**\nThe Waves Lite Client has been ported into a mobile application for Android and IOS too. It is available in the Google Play and Apple stores. It has several thousand downloads already. The mobile client allows users to make payments, check their balance and, also to trade on the go for Android versions, IOS is on the way using the built in decentralized exchange, DEX for short.. \n\n**Custom Application Tokens (CATs)**\nTo truly understand what a “custom application token” is we might want to first take a step back, and understand what exactly is a “token”?\n\nA “token” is a store of value. \n \nThis is a super over-simplistic definition. A token can represent the following:\n\n•\tCoins\n•\tPoints\n•\tCertificates\n•\tIn-game items \n•\tShares in a company\n•\tVoting rights\n\nWithin the Waves Platform, you can create a custom token (Custom Application Token) and apply that token to whatever you wish with whatever terms and conditions you desire.\nTo create your own token, you just need to pay 1 Waves at current market value.\n\n**Tokens Flexibility**\nIf we stick with the token creation from the previous section, and imagine that you now created your own token, with “Token Flexibility” you can effectively “pay transaction fees not in the native WAVES token but any other token existing on the blockchain.” \n\nIn simple terms, every time you want to buy and/or sell your token(s) there is a commission fee aka transaction fee. With Token Flexibility, everybody can create his or her own token within seconds and it will immediately be tradable on the market and not just in Waves tokens but others that exist such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.\n\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/98782db970.jpeg)\n\n**Waves Decentralized Exchange (No Middle Men)**\nUp to this point, I have discussed a lot of interesting and useful features that exist in the Waves Platform. If we were to continue with the analogy of thinking of the Waves Platform as a “house” than the Waves Decentralized Exchange (DEX for short) is the main living room for sure. I don’t want you to get discouraged with those two words, “decentralized” and “exchange”.\n\nAt this point, you might be turning your head sideways like Scooby Doo, and saying to yourself, “Huh”.\n\nLet’s break down those two words to better understand what the heck is a decentralized exchange?\n\nDecentralized is a bit self-explanatory, and in the world of cryptocurrency it has paramount importance aside from the algorithms and technology, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.\n\nDecentralized is just anything that has no one controlling force or entity, according to our folks at Wikipedia:\n\nDecentralization is the process of redistributing or dispersing functions, powers, people or things away from a central location or authority\n\nAn “Exchange” is a *marketplace*. \n\nAn Exchange is where things are bought and sold.\n\nWhen we put those two words together, *Decentralized Exchange*, we have a distributed **marketplace**.\n\nIn other words, a *marketplace* where no single entity has control and or power or authority.\n\nThe Waves Decentralized Exchange is just that, a distributed marketplace where power/control is dispersed.  You can exchange tokens on the DEX that is peer-to-peer without a middleman\n\nHow it is dispersed is for future articles.\n\n**Why the Waves Decentralized Exchange matters?**\n\nThe advantages are: **high speed, outages, security and costs (no middle men).**\n\n**High Speed**\nIn a centralized peer to peer exchange, the network could be affected by congestion as more and more users go to one central focal point, however in a decentralized exchange, the servers and environments are spread globally thus ensuring more access points and increasing speed.\n\nPhoto of Waves Decentralized Exchange:\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/984ed36d1d.jpeg)\n \n**Outages**\nDisaster recovery is important in any endeavor and especially in technology. With a centralized exchange, sure many will have redundant coverage but nothing compared to a decentralized exchange with server nodes spread globally. \n\n**Security**\nIn a centralized exchange, they are susceptible to hacks and thefts, however with a decentralized exchange the network is spread across a larger area thereby making it more difficult to hack.\n\n**Costs**\nWith the Waves DEX there are no middlemen. Costs can be significantly different from a centralized versus a decentralized exchange as the brunt of the workload is shared in a decentralized environment versus a privatized controlling business. It is like comparing paid versus open source technology in terms of thinking about costs and the savings incurred as a result.\n\n**Fiat and Digital Currencies on Waves**\nFiat currencies, have no intrinsic value other than being a medium of exchange, such as the US Dollar, Chinese Yen or Europe’s Euro.\n\n![](https://i.imgsafe.org/98/989214f8fd.jpeg)\n\nInside the Waves Platform, you can buy and sell cryptocurrencies using fiat currencies.\n\nThis is achieved in collaboration with compliant payment providers which are to issue a fully backed fiat token on the blockchain. In combination with the decentralized exchange, this allows users to do forex as well as crypto against fiat trading, eliminating the bothersome process of going through Bitcoin and paying a double conversion. Furthermore, future crowdfunding on Waves could potentially accept fiat tokens as a method of funding.\n\nThe really benefit of this feature is that you do not have to buy Bitcoin first before buying the token you really want, thereby eliminating double conversions.\n\nMoreover, “future crowdfunding on Waves could potentially accept fiat tokens as a method of funding.” \n\n**Proof of Stake Rewards**\nWaves offers Proof of Stake Rewards.       "body": "As I prepare for my third Camino….I began to reflect on my last experience….and coincidentally….\n\nThe other day I was asked to speak about the Camino De Santiago….\n\nI thought……rather than speak about the typical…\n\nFun adventures….and experiences…or…\n\nWhat to bring……and how to prepare….etc…\n\nAll of which are important…\n\nI took a different path…\n\nYou see…\n\nFor me…the Camino De Santiago…is just like life…….and like life……there are incredible lessons that can be learned..\n\nLet me explain..\n\nJust Like Life…..you need to focus on one day at a time….one Albergue at a time…one Stage at a time…You cant focus on the whole journey or you will become overwhelmed…You learn to live in the moment…the present..\n\nJust Like Life…..you walk at your own pace….Although you may meet many people…you need to go at the pace thats right for you….\n\nJust Like Life…..when problems arise…and they will…such as taking care of your feet…you need to stop…regardless of those around you…and do whats best for you at that very moment…Do Whats Best For You…this can be somewhat difficult as many people…have a hard time….doing whats best for themselves..for fear of what others think….\n\nJust Like Life…..you meet so many people…from all around the world….man…do you meet…so many great and wonder-FULL people….opportunities to re-humanize…..the Camino is really about the people….especially when our spirits are down..its great when those around us help to lift our spirits…and put things in a different perspective…\n\nJust Like Life…..you are with nature….not in a tree hugging….birkenstock way…..but…you become reacquainted with yourself and your relationship to nature….one of the single most important and revitalizing ways to pick up your spirits…re-connecting with nature….in the concrete jungle it sometimes becomes a little difficult…the Camino affords us this possiblity…\n\nJust Like Life…..You live only with the things on your back….you live the simple life….and you realize that…..you can not only survive…but thrive with less…contrary to the popular opinion that we need more to be happy…the Camino teaches us to live with less…\n\nJust Like Life…..There are days…when…quite frankly you dont want to walk 25-30 kilometers….you just want to stay in bed….and like life…there are times when we become “stuck” and think what do I do now???? With the Camino…it reminds us that sometimes….we are our worst enemy…and that if we just continue on things will work themselves out…..\n\nJust Like Life…..we need to re-charge our batteries….the Camino…allows us the time to re-charge…time for reflection….isnt that what we really want…more time…?\n\nJust Like Life…..we sometimes ask ourselves what the heck am I doing…we question…ourselves…and the Camino is no different……it really magnifies….our own self doubts…and shows us….that in the face of adversity…..we can go on…\n\nAnd Just Like Life…..each of us has own unique reason(s) for doing what we do….and the Camino is no different…there is no one reason why someone embarks on the Camino…its different for each person…respect that the reason(s) you have may be different from those around you….\n\nWell thats my rant….\n\nAs you can probably tell….I loved my experience doing the Camino…\n\nIt is without a doubt the single best thing Ive ever done in my life.\n\nPeace\n\n-Bronson",
