      "body": "Hey guys - just wanted to run you through some of the different online bitcoin things I do on a normal basis. \n\n\nCurrently the price of one bitcoin is $2711.00.  I used the site http://preev.com/ to check this.  I like that site because it updates every 5 seconds. You can use the site to enter different quantities of bitcoin or different USD amounts and you can get the exchange rate pretty quickly. \n\nI normally jump over to http://www.coindesk.com/ once a day to check out what is happening in the blockchain space. \n\nI really wish that there was a site where you could average out the prices of bitcoin across ALL platforms.  Preev averages out 3 sites (Bitfinex, Bitstamp, BTC-E) and then when you go over to https://www.coinbase.com the buy price might be $50 higher than normal. \n\nAbout once a week I jump over to https://blockchain.info/ just to see what the blocksize is up to now. It is kind of sad to see all the 999 kb blocks.  I made a tx the other day and it took me about 30 minutes.  That really isn't bad compared to some of the stories I have heard.  \n\nSaw the story about this kid who has over a million dollars in bitcoin.  Very interesting. I'm sure there are a ton of millionaires out there now.  Thats the cool thing about this space.       "body": "Hello!   It sounds like gatehub.com is a hosted wallet.  I often advise users against using online hosted wallet sites like that one.  Hosted wallets get hacked all the time.  (Mt. Gox all the way  to the recent Bitfinex)  My advice is to contact the admins of that site to see how they are working to recover its users' funds. It may seem long, but it is worth watching if you truely are interested in learning what is behind this new technology. While many other exchanges and technologies are failing, the Bitcoin Blockchain has continued to function just as it has [since Jan. 3, 2009](https://blockchain.info/block/000000000019d6689c085ae165831e934ff763ae46a2a6c172b3f1b60a8ce26f).\n\nI am still learning about the blockchain.  I started learning about it 3 years ago and I learn more about it all the time.       "body": "Hello,\n\nI am fairly new to Steemit and still trying to figure all of this out. \n\nThis post relates to my journey into the bitcoin/blockchain space and where it began.  In July of 2013, I began hearing about bitcoin from various tech forums and websites.  Online the word bitcoin would show up randomly and then disappear for a while.  I had heard about a bitcoin wallet and I was doing some research on it.  I wanted to figure out how to get a wallet and be able to use it - because that is what I had learned. \n\nAround the end of 2013, I had started to hear about Mt. Gox.  At the time, Mt. Gox had over 70% of all the wallets worldwide.  Everyone else seemed to be using it so I figured it must be OK.   I learned that you could purchase bitcoins and then you would have to hold them in your wallet.  What I didn't realize at the time is that Mt. Gox was both an Exchange AND a hosted wallet company. \n\nHistory tells us that you should not keep your bitcoins stored in an exchange.  Its basically a hosted wallet and a tempting target for hackers everywhere.  No one told me this.  Luckily for me, I couldn't figure out how to get a wallet on Mt. Gox ... otherwise I would have been one of many victims that would lose their coins to gox. \n\nSince 2013, there have been a lot of exchanges that have fallen.  There are many different [articles of hacks](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/mar/18/history-of-bitcoin-hacks-alternative-currency) that have happened.  But still people fail to realize the dangers that are out there.  \n\nThere have been a lot of scams as well. I have started tracking a lot of them [on my website](http://www.bitcoinpartner.network/wall-of-shame/).  I have spent a lot of time doing research and also talking with other people new to  bitcoin so that they can learn more about how it works and what dangers there are out there. \n\nI am fascinated by - not just bitcoin - but also by blockchain technology. I hope to be able to use my knowledge about this new tech, but have not yet found out what I'm going to do. There are a list of projects I'm starting up.
