      "body": "Got glasses for the first time in my life this year. My wife boldly scheduled my appointment with the optometrist — didn’t even know what that was — behind my back. \n\nSure enough, the appointment comes, they put me in this chair and all these mechanical things are pushed up in my grill making things blurry. Doc tells me some numbers, and asks some questions about my eyes and boom I’m walking out of the office with glasses. (They were actually being built… took a few weeks.)   \n\nThey show up, I put them on, and all of a sudden my eyes stop hurting when I’m reading. It’s like magic. Or, it’s just upgrading the way I was functioning. Easily confused with magic. Plus they are super fly and match up with my grey coming in…totally beside the point.\n\nSee, I had grown accustomed to my eyes hurting when editing videos and reading my Bible. My head would often hurt when I focused for longer than a few minutes. Only rarely would I stop, become aware of it, and address the issue.  \n\nWhy? \n\nTry and make an internal list of things bothering you right now, and ask the question: Am I doing anything about that?   \n\nSure, maybe you’re addressing a symptom or two. I could take ibuprofen all day long, soothing some pain, but addressing an issue in my life takes effort, intentionality, and dependency on Jesus.  \n\nI would love to invite you to join me over the next few weeks in checking our lenses in a few areas of our lives that are hindering us from abiding with Jesus, and experiencing the benefits of the Kingdom of Heaven.  \n\nSugar. \n\nThis is normally the part of the blog post where I would say something scientific and spiritual — at the same time — but you all can use the google machine yourself. And I’m not tryna tell you what to do, rather I’m tryna tell you to be connected to Jesus.  \n\nThe question I want to ask is this:\n\nWhat is your relationship with sugar or food?\n\nTake a moment and ask Holy Spirit.  \n\nAdjusting your lens is simply stopping your norm and looking at it. Did Holy Spirit speak anything? Remind you of anything? I’d be glad to give you some tips on how to be healthy, but again, the invitation for us this year is to remain in the Lord. To develop lifestyles of intimate connection with Him.  \n\nTake a moment and give Him permission to speak into your relationship with sugar.  \n\nThe last two months I have been engaging in this prayer: Jesus, help me give you my attention. \n\nA few days ago was no different. I was hanging with Him and we started dialoguing about desire. What could it look like to not just give Jesus my attention, but for my desire to really go out to Him? For my heart to get drawn out into the mysteries of heaven? Sitting in that was glorious. \n\nThen God turns the page on me, and begins talking to me about food! It was a bit of a shock-turned-disbelief. God began unpacking how I let my heart and desire get satisfied in food. Mint oreos. Chipotle. Forty-four ounce strawberry limeades from Sonic. The new KitKat mint duos. All seemingly trivial at face value. Until I allow myself to stop and look at what is satisfying my heart. None of these are “problems.” The problem is that the competition for my heart is being waged, and I am at times choosing food and sugar over Jesus.  \n\nAfter a long work day or emotional engagement, it’s easy for me to stop by the store for a quick pick-me-up. In between kid pick-ups, what’s wrong with grabbing something at the drive-thru, right? Nothing. Until I stop and allow myself to take a look at the desire of my heart. I’ve disconnected and am unsatisfied with my union with Jesus, and am turning to artificial stimulants. \n\nMany of you that know me could almost dismiss this. You may know me as a physically healthy person. However, the invite this year is not to mostly remain in Jesus. The choice I have made is not to love God with most of me. Anything stealing from my desire and attention I want to address. I don’t want to “fix it,” rather I want to take it into my relationship with Jesus and ask Him to show me Himself.  \n\nAt the end of the day my heart doesn’t need me to be forceful with it. It needs me to take it back to Jesus and see Him, to remain in Him, to enjoy the bliss of the Kingdom and to put sugar in its place.  \n\nWould you join me this week? Ask Holy Spirit if you have a skewed relationship with sugar and food. Expect the delight and joy of Jesus to draw out your heart and satisfy you this week. \n\nPsalm 16:11\n\n“You have made known to me the path of life; You fill me with joy in Your Presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”",

This idea for higher education plagues our internal stability with fear and victimhood rendering our choice almost entirely.  We then find ourselves at an over priced institution where we are promised an end result of a \"good job\".  \n\nIn reality, we rarely find actual wisdom or life skills.  We discover the joys of an indoctrinated generation, dependent on an elite class backed by government \"loans\".       "body": "A foreign concept to our western culture.  Something that the church has tried to adopt as Jesus gives individuals a clear call to follow Him, deny themselves, take up their cross and follow.  \n\nWhat did that really mean in practice?\n\nA Jew hearing it from the mouth of Jesus, would have understood the gravity of the invitation.  Give up the entirety of their life, their potential future, financial stability to follow the Rabi in every aspect of their life.  Going wherever the Rabi was going, doing whatever the Rabi was doing.  \n\nAll future ideas would have been filtered through the leadership and direction of the Rabi.  \n\nThere was not greater risk to an individual, and no greater honor than to be a disciple. \n___________\n\nWhat does discipleship mean now?  How does the concept of discipleship impact today's Church culture?  Is it dished out and offered up in a bulletin?  Is it an older person counseling and mentoring you?  Maybe someone helping you read the Bible and process your life challenges?  No doubt, all great things, but does it have optional components where we can pick and choose when and how we will follow?\n\nThere are so many great and not so great experiences around this concept.  Take a moment and evaluate for yourself what does it mean for you to be a disciple of Jesus?  Is there a call from Jesus Himself to you to deny yourself?  Put all future plans on the table, risk financial stability, and get to know what Jesus is doing on the earth?  Is it possible that His plans are clear and that He is inviting us to not just learn about them, but follow Him into them?\n\nI want to encourage you to take a fresh look at your life and ask If you are and want to be a disciple of Jesus.  Regardless of what the concept of discipleship has looked like to you, and if someone is helping you or not.  Ask these two questions:\n1. What am I experiencing Jesus to be like this week. \n2. How am I following Him into what He is doing this week. \n\nBeing able to answer these two questions on a week in and week out basis will enable us to discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.  Would you do it with me?",

      "body": "“Seriously, the state is on fire?  of course it’s 2020”. \n\n“I wish this year would be done with and we could get along with our lives”. \n\n\nThe jest, the memes, the satire mocking the pain.  It’s easy to partake in it.\n\n“Do you really believe that?”\n\nOf course at face value no.  But take a moment and check yourself? \n\nDo you really desire a reset, to be done with the situation that is 2020?  When Jesus died on the cross He really said “it is finished”.  The cross really does invite us to yield to Him and experience Him.  Circumstances do not have the ability to take over our internal worlds and dictate their reality, unless we let them. \n\nJesus offers you that choice.  Right here in 2020, be influenced by the circumstances around you, or the finished work of the Cross of Jesus Christ.  \n\nThe foundation of the victim mindset is option A.  Be blown around by circumstances, sometimes winning, sometimes losing - but ultimately powerless to take on the day.  Sure 2020 has been framed as the worst ever.  Getting restricted into a cultural lockdown is not ideal.  The incredible pain that got magnified with George Floyd is hardly pleasant, necessary to discover but not enjoyable.  The chaos that surrounds anything named Biden or Trump is confusing at best, culturally destructive at worse. \n\n And here we are to navigate it today.  \n\nWill you be blown about by emotional framing, harsh circumstances, and a huge what if?  Or will you step into the circumstances fully aware that all of God is with you.  Your choice.  Jesus died to give you that choice.  \n\nJoin me from now until the election giving Jesus the #firstword of your day.  Put your phone away, shut down the news, and when you wake up, give Jesus the #firstword of your day.  You will be shocked at your influence of Christ in you in the chaos around us.  Some call it being the light of the world.  \n\nJesus died for it.  Choose Him.",

      "body": "If you do not claim to know or follow Jesus Christ please tread lightly as some of this may not make sense to you.  \n\n![Unknown-1.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmR3GfGMmS2Mb1WTpY7eAwuHajhLUU8aV89rS7ueGn2cx2/Unknown-1.jpeg)\n\nIn light of the recent tragedy of George Floyd and the ongoing chaos in Minneapolis and now across major cities, I would like to invite you as a representative of the church to think about this with me.  \n\nJesus said \"You are the light of the world\" - Paul said \"You are an ambassador of Christ\" - Jesus said \"You will be my witnesses...to the ends of the earth\" - God said \"We will make mankind in our image...to be fruitful, multiply and rule over the earth\" Jesus said \"I am the way, the truth and the life, nobody comes to the Father except through Me\"\n\nIn light of these expectations, what do we do with George Floyd, racism, whiteness etc.  are we doing that?   How is our online social media presence helping?  Are we being the light of the world?  Can we do anything as a suburban white person?  \n\nThe race issue has been framed by the media/social media in such a way that we feel hopeless and a general sense of powerlessness and that sucks...but is it true?  Even in light of a white suburban church with minimal ethnically diverse relationships.  \n\nMy observation, which maybe over generalizing, is that we as individual's that compromise the Church, communicate our sadness and concern, maybe sharing articles, maybe sharing our experience, but it being grid by a sense of powerlessness.  What can I do?  I'm just little ol me.  \n\nThe Church is the hope/light of the world, and regardless of your past, if you have yielded to the Lordship of Christ, you have a responsibility to be that.  It's not a good idea or suggestion.  \n\nSo why is it so hard?\n\nI would suggest two things, while I am sure there are more. \n\n* We, within the Church are more influenced, than influencing. \n\nWe the church have developed normal rhythms where we spend more time being influenced by external (entertainment, news, conventional wisdom) than we do by the Bible.  Think about your last week.  How much time did you spend in the Word of God?  How much time did you spend being entertained?  How much time did you spend watching the utube's or the facebook machines?  That may be why we can feel so unable to do anything.  \n\nPaul wrote in 2 timothy chapter 3  that in the last days men will have a form of godliness but deny it's power.  Perhaps that applies to us.  Go and read it for your self.  Its 2 Timothy 3.  \n\nIt's nice to post things on social media and express our concern.  In some cases it's needed.  But what if it's us appealing to our network some level of solidarity with hurting people but not actually helping anything?  I would suggest thats us trading our identity as a Son or Daughter of God with our identity as a white privileged American.  It makes sense that your white privilege needs to feel bad and go to the background, it doesn't make sense for the man or women of God to go to the background.  \n\nDo not get me confused with being arrogant.  The weight and feels of this  racial tension is high and real, and it should expose our weakness, and by proxy our need for grace.  So embrace the grace of God in the weakness to action, not passive inaction.  \n\n* The second thing that makes this so hard is that we believe this is a political problem.  \n\nCulturally, this has been framed in the news going from President Obama and change and an amazing country, to now Donald Trump empowering racists.  It's fine if you currently believe that.  However, I would ask if you know a single racist person.  \n\nI would suggest we have been culturally hoodwinked, and are now looking for a 'racial savior' via a political revolution.  \n\nWhat is the government really going to do?  Fix everything?  I understand that the American government has historically had laws that have enabled racial segregation and in-equality.  And I understand that the government can address those.  However, at the end of the day the government is made up of imperfect people at best, corrupt people at worse.  And the government's job is not to be the light of the world.  That's ours.  \n\nAddressing the government's role is an article for a different time.  This is to re-iterate that it's the Chruch's job to be the light of the world. \n\n ***Therefore your job is not political reformation*** \n\nThe disciples', as well as the nation of Israel, were looking for a political savior.  Under the thumb of Rome, the Jews were interpreting prophesy  about the Messiah as a political reformation freeing the nation of Isreal into independence.  \n\nJesus was not a political reformer - Jesus is the Savior\n\nWhat happened?  I would direct you to Peter's revelation of Jesus Christ in Matthew 16.  \"You are Christ, the Son of the living God\" to whom Jesus replied - you right, and on this revelation I will build a Church and get this...The Gates of Hell Will Not Prevail!  \n\nJesus modeled with His life a Kingdom and reformation, that touched politics, but was of Divine Nature.  He modeled heaven on earth and a Kingdom of influence that moved beyond one generation's challenges.  His power coming from His connection with God, was and is able to influence eternity.  It has an impact on today's challenges, however, the purpose of Christ and His followers to be understood.  He invited His followers to be participators in this Kingdom, and to take up the Family Business of reconciling heaven and earth.  \n\n***reconciling heaven and earth***\n\nPlease do not hear me minimizing this pain.  I have limited experience or understanding of the depth of the pain caused by American racism.  \n\nBut Church Be the Light of the World!  \n\nI will leave you with a few practicals...\n* Get on your face before God\nNot one time, but everyday.  The same fear and dread built by your media consumption can be annihilated by the presence and power of God's joy and peace.  But it's not magic.  It come's from you choosing to boldly go to the throne room every day.  \nIn addition to your personal joy/peace the power of prayer is lame to a hurting world when we say we pray but we do not actually carry around with us the power of heaven.  Prayer is partnering with God in seeing what He is doing and pulling the divine strategies and wisdom to earth.  It's not pithy lip service...unless it is...\n\n* Repent\nIf you put trash in you get trash out.  When you get into God's presence you see yourself rightly.  You may have some racial sin, and the world needs a Church that has the courage to repent and change.  It's at the core of the Gospel, and yes its for everyone else, but you are powerless if you yourself are not building a consistent lifestyle of repentance.  \n\n* Preach the Gospel\nRacism is the context to our nation's current upheaval.  People's desire for reformation is legit - and we should pursue real change.  But a reformation devoid of the Gospel will be followed by sin.  The context might change from racism to something else. We the Church have got to provide the only thing that provides permeant change - its the blood of Jesus Christ.  Preaching is hard.  Communicating solidarity and compassion is good and right but is useless when not paired with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ and the call to repent.  \n\nTo close this down - Church let's turn the light on.  Our nation is in chaos, pain is spilling out, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the solution.  Political reformation will follow the Gospel.  We as individual's just have to make courageous choices. \n\nWould you be careful with how you communicate your concern and desire to help?  Social media is so easy to make us feel like we are doing something, but so easily has a form of godliness completely void of the power of Cross.  Lets take our pain into God's presence, especially the feeling of helplessness.  I believe if we do that we will bring the peace that transcends understanding, the wisdom of heaven, solutions for problems, but especially...\n\n***the courage to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ***",
