      "body": "The recent price fall of Bitcoin has reinforced most of the traditional investment world’s deep-rooted scepticism of cryptocurrency. \n\nInstitutional investors are, in the greater scheme of things, risk averse creatures, tending to seek stable long-term returns over a quick buck. The dramatic volatility of Bitcoin in 2017 and so far this year has offered anything but. Coupled with ongoing concerns over cryptocurrency’s (albeit overexaggerated) connections to crime and the dark web, fear of the Bitcoin bubble bursting and a lack of regulation, transparency and liquidity, it is understandable why institutional investors, with their mindset and culture, have steered clear.\n\nHow therefore can the gap between the worlds of cryptocurrency and institutional investment be bridged?\n\nThe first gap to bridge concerns the issue of legitimacy. For professional investors to even consider investing in an asset class, it must be legitimate – and in the eyes of many in the community, cryptocurrency is not. The reality however is that although cryptocurrency may be different, that differentiation doesn’t make it, as an asset class, any less legitimate. \n\nGold, fiat currencies, stamps, wine and tech stocks were at one point all new and different investment options. As asset classes, they may not have played by the traditional rules, or at times even been liked, but that didn’t make them illegitimate. The starting point therefore requires an appreciation on institutional investors’ behalf, irrespective of volatility, decentralisation and risk, of cryptocurrency’s legitimacy.\n\nThe second bridge to gap is risk. The dramatic highs and lows of Bitcoin may to institutionalised investors stink of unnecessary risk; but whilst Bitcoin may be cryptocurrency’s notorious poster boy, consider that over 1,300 alternative cryptocurrencies are now in circulation. Many of these alternative currencies offer far more stable, longer returns, essentially operating as asset-backed securities whose value derives from traditional assets such as the US Dollar or gold.\nThis was the idea behind Bond, a new cryptocurrency that is 100% asset backed against both other cryptocurrencies but also real estate and property bonds. By offering a cryptocurrency backed by a diverse pool of assets, including a traditional growth market that offers steady returns, the aim of Bond is to reduce risk and enable traditional investors to enter the cryptocurrency market with a greater degree of reassurance and confidence.\n\nFinally, the third bridge to gap is trust. With cryptocurrency decentralised and essentially unregulated, the cryptosphere can, to traditional investors, represent something of a Wild West, populated by anti-establishment crypto-cowboys roaming free willy-nilly. The onus therefore must be on the cryptocurrencies themselves to instil reassurance and trust. \n\nInstitutional investors are used to, and reassured by, regulation, framework and structure. And whilst these principles might seem at odds with the founding ideals of cryptocurrency, they needn’t be. \n\nJust as with any other investment offering, cryptocurrencies need to transparently demonstrate their USPs, strategy, growth plans and risks from the off. Once investors have bought in, the team behind the cryptocurrency need to offer ongoing support, advice and guidance. Furthermore it helps if the cryptocurrency is available for purchase in conventional means, such as via bank transfer, so that investors can purchase with clarity and ease.\n\nThe mechanics, politics and indeed entire concept of cryptocurrency may currently seem alien and unappealing to traditional investment communities. But with a greater emphasis on establishing legitimacy, lowering risk and building trust, a new relationship between crypto and professional investors can be born. Used to working in a highly regulated, structured financial environment that seeks long-term stability, the decentralisation and volatility associated with cryptocurrencies simply makes it, in their eyes, incompatible with the rules of the professional investor game.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>But we believe that this culture gap can be bridged. That is why, today, we have launched a facility that enables our digital equity offering (‘Bond Units’) to be purchased not only in cryptocurrency, but via traditional bank transfer too.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>On the surface, this may seem like a tiny step towards bringing those outside the crypto community into the fold. But we know that for both professional investors and those who have never engaged with crypto before, the process of entering the market can be daunting. Some of the most frequent questions we get asked is ‘how do I buy cryptocurrency?’ and ‘I want to buy Bond Units but don’t own any existing cryptocurrencies with which to purchase them – what can I do?’.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>By enabling investors to purchase Bond Units via bank transfer, we aim to make entering the cryptocurrency markets simpler, more streamlined and transparent than ever before. Doing so will also enable a new breed of cryptocurrency investor to enter the market with greater reassurance and familiarity.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>How does it work? Accredited investors simply set up a BitShares account and, having cleared the KYC checks and chosen how many Bond Units they wish to buy, will be issued with an invoice that they can then settle via bank transfer. The process is quick, straightforward and secure.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The bank transfer facility – which will initially enable investors to purchase Bond Units in eight major international currencies – is part of a wider effort from Bond to fully support and ‘hold the hand’ of investors who are new to cryptocurrency. &nbsp;</p>\n<p>We believe that, unlike many other investment options (both traditional and crypto) it is both irresponsible and unethical to simply take an investor’s cash, wish them luck, and send them on their way. Investment platforms have an obligation to their investors to offer them support, guidance and ease of use.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>It’s what in the investment community is sometimes referred to as ‘the cuddle’, and its why we are offering a support network that goes hand-in-hand with our investment offering. Investors can discuss the purchase process with the Bond team over the phone, and will be invited into our Telegram app group where they can raise any concerns and ask questions to the Bond team and follow investors.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The ability to purchase Bond Units by bank transfer may not radically reshape the relationship between the traditional and cryptocurrency worlds.       "body": "<html>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Bond: How do you solve a problem like volatility?</strong></ins>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>1:17pm</strong>: “Bitcoin price is going to the moon as cryptocurrency breaks $11,000” <em>(Coinspeaker)</em>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>8.00pm:</strong> “Bitcoin plunges 18%...in extremely volatile trading” <em>(CNBC)</em></p>\n<p>&nbsp;If ever there was a day that encapsulated the wild volatility of cryptocurrency valuation, Wednesday November 29th 2017 surely sets the benchmark. &nbsp;</p>\n<p>On Wednesday, within hours of Bitcoin surpassing an all-time-high of over $11,000 per coin, the value subsequently tumbled 18% in just a few hours - before rallying to around $9,700 by the end of the day. Within these few hours, the imagination, fascination – and scepticism - of the world’s investors and media was captured. All this is made even more remarkable when you consider Bitcoin is one of the lesser volatile currencies.</p>\n<p>Of course, such volatility is nothing new. In June Etherium crashed from $319 to 10 cents in seconds as a result of one multimillion dollar exchange. In August of this year Ripple plunged 30%, simply off the back of a few tweets and the announcement that Ripple were establishing a new academic conference. Bitcoin itself has had its fair share of up and down moments in the past, too.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Volatility and risk may well be two separate (although often interlinked) concepts but, for traditional long-term institutional investors, the rollercoaster nature of cryptocurrency makes it an unattractive proposition - both financially and emotionally.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Which is where Bond comes in. &nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>What is Bond?</strong></ins>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Founded by a group of London-based cryptocurrency and business enthusiasts, Bond is a new $5m equity offering that offers digital blockchain-issued securities in a conventional asset fund.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Bond affords investors the opportunity to purchase securities, known as ‘Bond Units’, in an asset portfolio that holds a mixture of property bonds, real estate and cryptocurrency assets.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;Each Bond Unit, which digitally represents an equity share of Bond’s diverse asset portfolio, will be issued on the Bitshares Blockchain and traded via Bitshares decentralised exchange - enabling investors to trade them as a new form of digital currency with other accredited investors.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>We are predicting a minimum 8% annual return, with returns paid quarterly – but since our launch the value of Bond Unit has already, at its peak, grown in value by 42%.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>What does the Bond asset portfolio comprise of?</strong></ins>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The diverse range of assets that the Bond portfolio comprises of includes:&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;· Peer-to-peer Bitcoin lending (30%)&nbsp;</p>\n<p>· Traditional property bonds and real estate (30%)&nbsp;</p>\n<p>· The Billion Hero Campaign (30%)&nbsp;</p>\n<p>· Alternative cryptocurrencies (10%)&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>How does Bond protect against volatility?</strong></ins>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Bond’s core aim is to address the issues around volatility and a lack of institutional investor confidence within the cryptocurrency markets. By offering a diverse asset portfolio of both fixed-rate and variable-rate traditional and alternative assets, Bond is specifically designed to safeguard the value of its asset basket and protect from downside risk, even in the case of a dramatic cryptocurrency crash.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;In the case of a cryptocurrency crash and the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies considerably falling, we will bring further real estate and property assets into the basket, ensuring stability. With this flexible approach we are therefore predicting our minimum 8% return.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>We’re not designed as a ‘get-rich-quick’ scheme – quite the opposite. We don’t promise the crazy rates of return that some cryptocurrencies do. Rather, we are all about longer-term stability and transparency in an otherwise chaotic cryptocurrency world.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>And what about institutional investors?</strong></ins>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>For traditional investors who are yet to enter the cryptomarkets, there remains a large degree of caution and reluctance to invest given the risks involved.
