It began with little to no sleep, which completely threw me off all day. I was late to work, missed a meeting, was late to another. My whole day was out of whack. \n\nThe only bright spot was that I was looking forward to going to a free ballet playing at Lincoln Center at 7 pm. However, the day continued to knock me down on my way traveling to Lincoln Center after work. As I went to enter the subway turnstiles,  a homeless man grabbed me, trying to get my wallet for my MetroCard, screaming at me to \"give him a swipe.\" I pushed him off and quickly went through the turnstile and hurried toward my train. \n\nIt was a brief but traumatic event for me. I have made it my goal in life never to get mugged, and it's not looking good. \n\nBut, ever the selective optimist, I made it to Lincoln Center, still excited to see the Kazakhstan Astana Ballet. But after waiting for an hour in 20 degree weather, we were told “transparently” that the show was for a diplomatic event and they didn’t know how many seats that they’d have to give away AND that we’d have to wait another hour and a half until the show started so that they knew how many diplomats didn't show up...only in New York. \n\n![toakyjAVRy+yXG9gr7HMAw.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNRJWUVzcEG3JXN1PDb7mipoR1svT6g6VPEdwD5eJj6CP/toakyjAVRy%2ByXG9gr7HMAw.jpg)\n\nDisgruntled and over the day, I made my way to the subway to go home. That's when I caught the glimmering light of the Metropolitan Opera. I had forgotten it was around here. In an urge to not let this day end on a sucky note, I went in, asked for the cheapest ticket, and ended up seeing the Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci double performance. Maybe it's the rain, the gloominess the city gets in the winter, or just the typical \"I don't know what I'm doing with my life, I'm in my 20s\" feeling. But anyhow, when times get somber, sometimes I like to enjoy my time by eating. \n\nTonight after an emotionally exhausting day at work brought on by the resignation of my boss, I went wandering around East Village with my friend as we waited for our reservations at Gnoccheria by Luzzo's. \n\n![o.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaNE5aeWSTYqU2EX3NHEq4ZJvSEBbvMWnFZYC4CFQxT19/o.jpg)\n\n(picture from: http://www.gnoccherianyc.com/gallery?lightbox=dataItem-in9bjo3m1) \n\nUpon wandering around, we found this tiny ice cream shop called Odd Fellows, a place with daily flavors and delicious ice cream. Despite my lactose intolerance, I figured why not? I eat dairy all the time anyway (currently regretting it). The place was called Nobody is Perfect. The atmosphere was nice and the people were French. But the drinks were expensive ($15 for a Moscow Mule is absurd, I'm never drinking in this city again). Their pizza did look good though, so I might be back for that. The Tagliatelle Bolognese (and later the Pastiera Napoletana) was absolutely delicious (again, should have taken a picture of it, but I don't want to be judged by onlookers), so you're just going to have to go for yourself and check it out. I definitely need to try more places and be a more adventurous eater, so that might become a blog regular for me. Who knows? Another is going to Paris with her boyfriend for Valentine's Day and is expecting a proposal (30s). Another co-worker (only 25) repeatedly states that her boyfriend needs to propose. Two of my closest friends are getting married (24). My own sister (25) is already married with two kids. There are weddings coming left and right, and while I do work with people older than me (in their 30s), the expected inevitability has always been something I was curious about. This, mixed with me watching the season 1 finale of Master of None, makes me wonder. \n\nWhy do people get married at all anymore? \n\nAnd when they choose to...why do they want to so soon in their life? Or maybe, I'm just still sad from the Master of None finale and I'm projecting seeing as one of the scenes comprised of this conversation: \n\nMinister: [imagining their own vows] Do you, Dev, take Rachel to be your partner in a possibly outdated institution in order to have a \"normal\" life? Are you ready to give up an idealistic search for a soul mate and try to make it work with Rachel so you can move forward with your life?\n\nDev: I do.\n\nMinister: And do you, Rachel, promise to make a crazy eternal bond with this gentleman who you happen to be dating at this stage in your life when people normally get married?\n\nRachel: I do.\n\nMinister: I now pronounce you two people who might realize they've made an unfortunate mistake in about three years.\n\nThe answer to my question is probably. Another is going to Paris with her boyfriend for Valentine's Day and is expecting a proposal (30s). Another co-worker (only 25) repeatedly states that her boyfriend needs to propose. Two of my closest friends are getting married (24). My own sister (25) is already married with two kids. There are weddings coming left and right, and while I do work with people older than me (in their 30s), the expected inevitability has always been something I was curious about. This, mixed with me watching the season 1 finale of Master of None, makes me wonder. \n\nWhy do people get married at all anymore? \n\nAnd when they choose to...why do they want to so soon in their life? I'm all about romance and love and spending your life with someone special. All I want to do is travel the world with my boyfriend and have wonderful experiences with him by my side. Or maybe, I'm just still sad from the Master of None finale and I'm projecting seeing as one of the scenes comprised of this conversation: \n\nMinister: [imagining their own vows] Do you, Dev, take Rachel to be your partner in a possibly outdated institution in order to have a \"normal\" life? Are you ready to give up an idealistic search for a soul mate and try to make it work with Rachel so you can move forward with your life?\n\nDev: I do.\n\nMinister: And do you, Rachel, promise to make a crazy eternal bond with this gentleman who you happen to be dating at this stage in your life when people normally get married?\n\nRachel: I do.\n\nMinister: I now pronounce you two people who might realize they've made an unfortunate mistake in about three years.\n\nThe answer to my question is probably. Fast forward, I moved to Savannah, GA for college, where I got the inspiration for my first novel, The Vacant Swing (buy it on Amazon), and decided to pursue writing further.
