| body | <div class="text-justify"> https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*40xndYe-ZOc8ddPzSFPqCw.jpeg If you’re at all plugged into blockchain and its games, then you’ll have heard of [CryptoKitties,](https://www.cryptokitties.co/) and may very well own some of your own. In the game, users can buy and sell collectible virtual cats and even breed new kittens. While this may seem to be nothing more than an extension of the internet’s obsession with cats, CryptoKitties is the first large-scale decentralized application (DApp) built on the Ethereum network. Any game that is built on the blockchain by definition creates unique virtual assets that have their own features. This is the case with CryptoKitties and each cat is owned by the person who bought it and Axion Zen, the company which created the game no longer has control over it beyond its original coding on Ethereum. This makes it possible for gamers to have ownership and control of every aspect of their virtual kittens and also how gameplay is defined and executed. This is especially important when it comes to how the value of virtual goods is determined. For example, the more unique features a cat has, the greater its value, and as users breed cats with certain characteristics, the resulting kitten can be worth more than both its parents. The value of these virtual assets is tied into the concept of ‘scarcity.’ Although most things in online environments are plentiful, this can be an issue for users as having many copies of something on the market means it can be copied more easily, distributed without the permission of the party holding the copyright and in doing so, become less valuable and its profits lost to its owners. By creating fewer of an item, such as virtual goods and doing so on the blockchain where they can be tracked, there is far less opportunity for unlicensed copies to be made, and even if they are, their validity can be verified, thus proving them to be worthless and the creator in violation of intellectual property rights. Both Bitcoin and Crytokitties are examples of digital scarcity currently in use. With blockchain technology, this concept can easily be expanded to all sorts of virtual assets from video games to artificial reality items and other goods produced by digital platforms. With the concept of scarcity being restored to the market, both users and brands will benefit and the value of virtual items will grow as the supply remains finite. </div> |

| title | Designing Rewards in Games |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*7dMPGhVubgnffC0uthkyYA.jpeg Every game publisher and designer struggles to some degree with the question of how to encourage players to continue using a game once the initial novelty has worn off. No matter how many new updates may be released, there is still the issue of player fatigue, which can occur as some gamers beat every level and are then prepared to move on. However, games which offer incentives to players, ie virtual goods such as avatar skins, in-game currency, and other items have found enormous success because they have found ways of incentivizing player participation. This doesn’t mean that all rewards added to games are going to be popular, and including such things without first understanding the interests and demographics of gaming communities is a move which may be a costly mistake. But, if one has done the proper research and is preparing to design rewards for games, there are a number of categories to consider. Type of rewards: - **Currency** — Players receive currency which can be used in the game to level up, buy items or perform other actions. - **New items** — Skins, weapons, and other accessories that are obtained through leveling up or completing various tasks or missions. - **Achievements** — Anything that is bestowed on players for finishing a mission or participating in player tournaments. - **New players** — Rewards given to players who have just started playing the game as encouragement to keep doing so. - **Narrative** — Cut scenes that add to the overall narrative of the game. - **Locations** — Unlocked by players who reach a specific level. Within these broad categories of rewards for games there are many options, but by following such a basic criteria game publishers can design a system of perks which will appeal to a wide user base and maintain their player numbers in the long run. </div> |

No matter how many new updates may be released, there is still the issue of player fatigue, which can occur as some gamers beat every level and are then prepared to move on.\n\nHowever, games which offer incentives to players, ie virtual goods such as avatar skins, in-game currency, and other items have found enormous success because they have found ways of incentivizing player participation.\n\nThis doesn’t mean that all rewards added to games are going to be popular, and including such things without first understanding the interests and demographics of gaming communities is a move which may be a costly mistake.\n\nBut, if one has done the proper research and is preparing to design rewards for games, there are a number of categories to consider.\n\nType of rewards:\n\n- **Currency** — Players receive currency which can be used in the game to level up, buy items or perform other actions.\n- **New items** — Skins, weapons, and other accessories that are obtained through leveling up or completing various tasks or missions.\n- **Achievements** — Anything that is bestowed on players for finishing a mission or participating in player tournaments.\n- **New players** — Rewards given to players who have just started playing the game as encouragement to keep doing so.\n- **Narrative** — Cut scenes that add to the overall narrative of the game.\n- **Locations** — Unlocked by players who reach a specific level.\n\nWithin these broad categories of rewards for games there are many options, but by following such a basic criteria game publishers can design a system of perks which will appeal to a wide user base and maintain their player numbers in the long run.\n\n</div>",

However, following the swift rise of cryptocurrencies, beginning with Bitcoin, developers realized the huge potential in Dapps (decentralized applications), which have a wide range of potential uses beyond virtual currencies. Of course, as with many forms of technology, businesses have been relatively slow to adopt blockchain technology, banking institutions and other parts of the financial industry have first been unsure of how to categorize cryptocurrencies and cautious to adopt them. But, blockchain, which has received perhaps less publicity than Bitcoin is now gaining ground as the full scope of possible uses become apparent and many large companies have begun to obtain patents. For example, [IBM and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) formed a partnership](https://www.computerworlduk.com/galleries/security/how-could-blockchain-be-used-the-enterprise-3628558/) to create a scalable health data exchange built on blockchain. This is being done to deal with the fact that health data is often not transparent and to address patient privacy concerns. Tied into this is how blockchain can be used in the pharmaceutical supply chain, with each batch of medication having individual identifiers and therefore can easily be tracked from creation to delivery. Another industry that can benefit from the adoption of blockchain is journalism, with social media platforms being able to use blockchain to verify whether a news story is accurate or being spread by a network of bots. This would be invaluable and give news organizations increased credibility as they can verify their sources are accurate and the stories they report are factual. Virtual goods and augmented reality can also make the most of blockchain, both for brands and their consumers, as in-game currencies and goods can be created, bought, sold and traded while also easily confirming they are genuine and unique, which makes them more valuable. Blockchain is already a part of our lives, but it’s not always recognized as such, but with so many businesses starting to at least research how best to use this technology, it’s likely that the shift toward greater user will have little effect on how people go about their days. But, underneath that will be increased efficiency and security, thus leading to even more innovation as the limits of blockchain’s usefulness have not yet been found. </div> |

| body | <div class="text-justify"> https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*XmYmUeUD0tSqvHNReljwPg.jpeg Many industry leaders are exploring ways in which they can use blockchain to make products and services more secure and efficient. At this point, some of these efforts are only speculation, but the initial predictions for how blockchain technology will be utilized are promising. One arena where blockchain could be extremely helpful is in the auto industry. For example, the supply chain which is the foundation of the auto industry would be greatly helped by technology that makes the tracking of cars, parts, payments, and services simpler. With blockchain technology, anyone with access to it could track where their vehicle was, what manufacturer built a certain part, and the stage a transaction was in. This would remove much of the mystery that can surround the sale, service, and distribution of vehicles of all types. Transparency would allow for better safety checks and the easy backtracking of faulty materials, making recalls more efficient and helping customers get back on the road with a minimum of bother. And, once the cars are on the road, there is the issue of how they are used — Uber, Lyft and various ride-sharing services have enjoyed enormous success, but have also had many issues in paying drivers appropriately, dealing with customer service issues and so on. Blockchain technology allows for a decentralized system that isn’t controlled by a third party and so could manage all these processes without being held up in procedural limbo. Insurance companies could also make use of blockchain, tracking claims, payments, and other consumer information, with the reverse being true and allowing for smoother processing of information in an industry which can often be seen as difficult to navigate. Furthermore, blockchain technology has many potential applications when it comes to the gathering and leveraging of data gathered by vehicles. As in-car devices are increasingly linked to the operation of vehicles, information about the drivers and passengers will be collected by insurance companies, auto manufacturers and other companies to whom the information may be sold. Blockchain technology could be utilized to make sure that no information is shared without the permission of the consumer and that what is shared can be tracked or limited as their needs and interests change. Of course, blockchain may not be applicable to every aspect of the auto industry, but there are enough use cases that it’s well worth investigating the possibilities and doing trials to see where it might be most beneficial both to the industry itself and consumers. </div> |

The way you go about answering this is by looking closely at the cryptocurrency’s token economics. For some ICOs, a cryptocurrency is merely created to generate funds instead of aiming to solve a problem or utilize new technology. This is in no way beneficial to the larger crypto community, therefore any ICO which has a cryptocurrency merely for vanity purposes should be viewed with skepticism. A platforms token economy is a description of how that token will be used on the platform, and if it’s only used for fundraising then the need for it will quickly diminish after the fundraising around and there is no reason for users to hold onto these tokens. But, if tokens serve several purposes, both during any fundraising and afterward, then their value has more potential for the long-term and are worth a closer look. Basically, the more ways there are to use a token, the more useful it is, extending even beyond the platform that developed it, which means it can compete against other tokens focused on the same products or elsewhere. Additionally, if a token is important to the governance of its platform then it plays a part the decisions are made. If a platform works on the basis of decentralized governance, it can make decisions based in part on the input of the community, so anyone holding these tokens has a voice and a vote, similar to stockholders. So, with those aspects of token economies in mind, you can then continue to evaluate a potential cryptocurrency investment based on other factors, such how the tokens are distributed, what micropayments are offered, the impact of the tokens on any games or projects built on the platform, and the method of buying-in. A strong token economic model will offer benefits to investors, users who come onto the platform after the ICO, developers, and allow everyone to take part in the growth of the platform. Therefore, any platform that does not take the time to create a solid foundation for their token economy is not one that is intended to be around for very long, while one that offers complex layers of protocols and a roadmap for further develop is in a position where a robust community can take it to the next level and help it succeed. </div> |

| body | <div class="text-justify"> https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*GDrGg57PT_gB3xFoDR4qxw.jpeg Cryptocurrencies have evolved far beyond simply being used for digital payments. With the swift advancements in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, it’s increasingly clear that cryptocurrency can do a range of things such as tokenizing assets, leveraging dApps, being a symbol of ownership of digital items and allowing one to become a participant in decentralized platforms. This has also resulted in the creation of new economic models, called “token economics.” But even though these new systems have a name, they aren’t always easy to understand. Cryptocurrencies can be programmed in a variety of ways and vary in their usage and features depending on what blockchain or platform they are built on. Generally speaking, token economics refers to the study, development, and deployment of economic systems based on blockchain technology. Every blockchain platform and blockchain application, including games has its own token economic model. One of the basic guidelines behind good token economics is that there are incentives in place that reward users for acting in ways that are beneficial to the network or platform. This creates a sense of loyalty within the community and means the ecosystem has a better chance at longevity. Long before a cryptocurrency is launched, the company or developers behind it have to decide how their token will function on their platform and create a set of token economic principles that govern it. This model has to be solid, as any weakness will be exploited by unscrupulous users as soon as it’s discovered. Next, the decision has to be made whether to use a consensus model or consensus algorithms, ie the Proof-of-Work used by Bitcoin and Ethereum. The latter works by having miners solving blocks which verify transactions and secure the network. The reward for solving a block is an amount of cryptocurrency. Another algorithm is the Proof-of-Stake, whereby holders of the platform’s cryptocurrency stake their holdings in a wallet to solve blocks. Holding more tokens increases one’s chances of that user’s wallet solving the block and being rewarded with tokens. These consensus models depend on the cryptocurrency functioning as an incentive for network members to participate in securing the network, verify transactions, and overall, make the ecosystem more stable. This brings more cryptocurrency into the ecosystem, causing inflation, for which every consensus model has its own rules. Another important aspect of token economics is the idea that there is a total amount a cryptocurrency which is limited, in order to prevent endless inflation, and in comparison with fiat currency, prevents the erosion of trust in the value of a cryptocurrency as the value can only fall so far before it recovers given the quantity of a digital currency available. With that being said, there are a number of additional steps needed to make a new model of token economics complete, with developers having to: - Create a model for token usage. - Devise an incentive program for miners and other users. - Layout payment method for transaction fees. - Determine network governance and contribution guidelines. These rules may remain the same as when they were originally conceived, but often the activity and feedback of a community and behavior of the broader cryptocurrency industry has an impact on a company’s token economics to some degree and adjustments are made to compensate. The process of working out a new model for token economics isn’t one that can be done quickly, and as blockchain technology continues to move forward, this system is likely going to become even more complex. The upside of this is that companies and platforms built on blockchain are creating more secure ecosystems which offer a range of incentives to users who contribute to building the community, making the users invaluable to a token ecosystem’s success and the best projects those which listen to their users and implement those suggestions which will have the best results for everyone. </div> |

With the swift advancements in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, it’s increasingly clear that cryptocurrency can do a range of things such as tokenizing assets, leveraging dApps, being a symbol of ownership of digital items and allowing one to become a participant in decentralized platforms. This has also resulted in the creation of new economic models, called “token economics.”\n\nBut even though these new systems have a name, they aren’t always easy to understand. Cryptocurrencies can be programmed in a variety of ways and vary in their usage and features depending on what blockchain or platform they are built on.\n\nGenerally speaking, token economics refers to the study, development, and deployment of economic systems based on blockchain technology. Every blockchain platform and blockchain application, including games has its own token economic model.\n\nOne of the basic guidelines behind good token economics is that there are incentives in place that reward users for acting in ways that are beneficial to the network or platform. This creates a sense of loyalty within the community and means the ecosystem has a better chance at longevity.\n\nLong before a cryptocurrency is launched, the company or developers behind it have to decide how their token will function on their platform and create a set of token economic principles that govern it. | title | Beyond Video Games: Common Digital Goods In High Demand |
| body | https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*jWQL7PHISy0WQDi-4hsLsA.jpeg <div> The rise of smartphones, social networking, and mobile data have made many new trends possible. Chief among them has been a jump in demand for virtual goods. Defined as digital items that can be bought, sold, and used in computerized environments, virtual goods become more valuable and sophisticated each year, making it essential for major brands and investors to get involved. Many of them have already done so, notably by creating or licensing virtual possessions to be used in major video games. But virtual goods take many forms besides gaming resources. To truly understand the value of this market, you have to consider all the types of virtual goods, including: #### Virtual Clothing Clothing lines like H&M have been involved in the virtual goods market from the beginning. These companies [make virtual clothing](https://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/07/business/media/07adco.html) that resembles the physical items they manufacture and sell in the “real” world. Customers can purchase these goods to display on social media or to outfit their characters within games and virtual worlds. #### Digital Pets Besides donning clothes on social media and in virtual worlds, players often want to have pets. Digital pets can resemble real animals, or they can be new types of creatures that only exist digitally and in our imaginations. It’s also possible to make pets that relate to a certain brand or individual. For example, hip-hop legend Calvin Broadus has sold digital Dobermans, a type of virtual animal that relates directly to his stage name, “Snoop Dogg.” In this way, he has been able to make more money, connect more closely with his fans, and bolster his personal brand. #### Computerized Replicas Many fans would like nothing better than to get their hands on items owned by their favorite singers and actors. Virtual goods are making it possible to do this on an unprecedented scale. Beyoncé, for example, has created a digital replica of her famous diamond ring, which is available for purchase on the Facebook fashion application Mall World. Products like these let fans feel closer to their favorite performers, and they make it possible to spread items that are limited in quantity. #### eBooks & Educational Materials In addition to entertainment and personal expression, virtual goods are of great value in education, a field where digital devices are playing an increasingly important role. Virtually any written document can be [digitized as an eBook,](https://easydigitaldownloads.com/blog/the-12-most-popular-digital-products-you-can-sell-online/) and many writers are now creating books solely in a digital format. This allows writers and textbook companies to reach a wider range of students and customers at a lower cost, all while continuing to profit from their writings. Besides books, there is a high demand for training applications that can also be sold in virtual good form. Anyone seeking to expand their knowledge can benefit immensely from the market for licensed digital items. As virtual goods of all forms become increasingly popular, BLMP is creating a framework to produce and license them more efficiently and securely. By connecting virtual good designers, publishers, and brands and helping them form secure partnerships, we allow this industry to achieve its full potential. </div> |

| title | Using Tokens to Incentivize User Engagement |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> As more video game publishers and other industries begin to adopt blockchain technology, cryptocurrency and branded tokens are also starting to become more popular. By creating a proprietary token which can be used to purchase goods within a particular virtual environment, users can connect with one another and the brand on a more concrete level. One advantage of using digital tokens is that unlike loyalty points which are used by many businesses, they can be used as currency or redeemable rewards from another company. This makes tokens far more versatile and makes them and the brands which issue and accept them more attractive to consumers. In other words, while loyalty points can be difficult to understand and redeem, tokens function much as any other form of currency and so are equivalent to having extra money — which makes it more likely that users will spend them instead of letting them accumulate in the long-term. Achieving broader token loyalty can be done by growing the network within which it can be used. By partnering with one another and making it possible for the crypto community to earn tokens from one company and spend them elsewhere, then both companies benefit and support one another. Another way to make cryptocurrency rewards more appealing is to allow users the choice of how they access their currency. As in, they can deposit in a wallet, cash it in for gift cards, convert it and deposit it in their bank account or send it to another user on the network. The other consideration is the blockchain technology being used to facilitate cryptocurrency tokens. Given that features offering the most flexibility require speed and a larger side of the application, it may be necessary to adopt specialized blockchains. The last element of a successful tokenized customer program is making sure the users are active, otherwise they won’t be earning or spending the currency. Creating various tasks or activities that they can perform, such as completing tasks, games, and so on to earn tokens will keep the community lively and promotes its overall longevity. </div> |

| title | Value Of NFTs to Video Games |
| body | NFTs (non fungible tokens) are a kind of token which are built on the blockchain and are not interchangeable with items or tokens of a similar type or quantity. They are entirely unique and there is no way to copy or steal them, giving them a higher value than other kinds of virtual assets. They also offer far more flexibility than FT (fungible tokens). Since NFTs aren’t dependent on third parties that would usually store and validate them, they don’t require trust in order for transactions to take place. Therefore, when someone playing a game purchases these tokens, they can be assured that even if the game were to shut down or even disappear, those tokens would still be in their possession because they are owned by that person rather than the game publisher or another company. These characteristics allow for numerous advantages over the way that many types of virtual goods are currently managed in video games and other digital environments. These include verifying the rarity of an item as well as its origin, date of creation and other details which clarify its value. One game which is actually built on the Ethereum blockchain and utilizes the concept of non-fungibility in a very concrete way is CryptoKitties. Each cat that is bred and sold in the game or through its market is unique, cannot be duplicated and is wholly owned by the person who created it or the buyer when ownership is transferred. All of this was made possible with the development of the ERC-721 token standard, the aim of which was to create non-fungible assets on the blockchain. With this new standard available, developers of CryptoKitties were able to create digital cats that have unique traits and at the same time, allow buyers to have complete ownership of their crypto cats. In regard to video games, such non-fungible assets could be valuable for even more reasons, such as if a game publisher created items that offer players substantial advantages, but only in limited quantities, thus driving up their value, or such items as classic skins and character tools that players might have input in designing — which would have an impact on the game’s virtual goods market. This would allow players to perhaps combine different features of one character with another and the result would be a new character which couldn’t be duplicated. With modifications the worth would grow, and players could then sell them at substantial profit or simply maintain a library of characters which in no way resemble those of anyone else. Given how popular such items as character skins, weapons, and other items are in the video game community, allowing players more freedom for modification and ensuring they stand out from other players is a concept which video game publishers should be jumping on in order to benefit from this expanding market. |

"title": "Value Of NFTs to Video Games",
"body": "\n\nNFTs (non fungible tokens) are a kind of token which are built on the blockchain and are not interchangeable with items or tokens of a similar type or quantity. They are entirely unique and there is no way to copy or steal them, giving them a higher value than other kinds of virtual assets.\n\nThey also offer far more flexibility than FT (fungible tokens). Since NFTs aren’t dependent on third parties that would usually store and validate them, they don’t require trust in order for transactions to take place. Therefore, when someone playing a game purchases these tokens, they can be assured that even if the game were to shut down or even disappear, those tokens would still be in their possession because they are owned by that person rather than the game publisher or another company.\n\nThese characteristics allow for numerous advantages over the way that many types of virtual goods are currently managed in video games and other digital environments. These include verifying the rarity of an item as well as its origin, date of creation and other details which clarify its value.\n\nOne game which is actually built on the Ethereum blockchain and utilizes the concept of non-fungibility in a very concrete way is CryptoKitties. Each cat that is bred and sold in the game or through its market is unique, cannot be duplicated and is wholly owned by the person who created it or the buyer when ownership is transferred.\n\nAll of this was made possible with the development of the ERC-721 token standard, the aim of which was to create non-fungible assets on the blockchain. With this new standard available, developers of CryptoKitties were able to create digital cats that have unique traits and at the same time, allow buyers to have complete ownership of their crypto cats.\n\nIn regard to video games, such non-fungible assets could be valuable for even more reasons, such as if a game publisher created items that offer players substantial advantages, but only in limited quantities, thus driving up their value, or such items as classic skins and character tools that players might have input in designing — which would have an impact on the game’s virtual goods market. This would allow players to perhaps combine different features of one character with another and the result would be a new character which couldn’t be duplicated. With modifications the worth would grow, and players could then sell them at substantial profit or simply maintain a library of characters which in no way resemble those of anyone else.\n\nGiven how popular such items as character skins, weapons, and other items are in the video game community, allowing players more freedom for modification and ensuring they stand out from other players is a concept which video game publishers should be jumping on in order to benefit from this expanding market.",

| body | <div class="text-justify"> The company recently announced that Tom Menner will be serving as Blockchain Architect on its Board of Advisors. Menner is an IT solution architect, with extensive experience in designing systems that leverage blockchain storage, cloud computing, and a number of other relevant technologies. #### BLMP, Menner, & the Future of Virtual Goods BLMP has developed revolutionary solutions to resolve obstacles within the virtual goods market including licensing issues. At present, brands and digital publishers have been hesitant to enter agreements with one another due to the complexity of enforcing such agreements. BLMP offers solutions with unique features including: - **Smart contracts** — use instructions stored in a blockchain to enforce themselves; this ensures that every party to a licensing agreement receives exactly what they are entitled to as per the contract. - **Virtual good tracking** — assigns a unique identity to each item and stores it in the blockchain; this assures that brands can be certain their property is never used without their permission and also verifies the authenticity of these assets. Tom Menner has the technical skills to scale this cutting-edge platform for BLMP. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Menner has worked as a Senior Solution Architect for IBM for over 10 years. Currently, Menner is a Director and Blockchain Solution Architect for R3 the largest private blockchain consortium consisting of over 200 financial institutions. Tom’s years of experience designing blockchain solutions and other digital applications for a wide range of purposes means BLMP is well-positioned to offer enterprise level software solutions to brands and digital platforms. Menner adds more firepower to a star studded list of advisors for the rapidly rising startup BLMP. </div> |

| body | <div class="text-justify"> The BLMP Network’s partners include a range of companies and publishers, including video games. Recently, [Thyng](http://thyng.com/) and [Reality Clash](https://realityclash.com/) joined the platform, bringing their respective augmented reality games and audiences to increase the technologies accessible through BLMP. Thyng is an augmented reality authoring app which makes it possible for users to create their own AR experiences. The app includes ARKit, so you can not only build AR worlds, but also add 3D objects, photos and videos. Users can walk around worlds they create and view their personal media in new and exciting ways while making various objects such as logos, signs and products come to life within the virtual environment. The app currently has 50,000 monthly active users and counting as it’s updated and expands its library of features. [Reality Clash](https://realityclash.com/) is the first augmented reality FPS (first person shooter) for mobile which is backed by the Ethereum blockchain. The game is free to play and allows players to interact with friends, join teams and plan battles in various locales such as parks, urban areas and so on. The gameplay concept is similar to Pokémon Go, but with weapons, vastly different graphics, and a FPS gameplay model. Augmented reality is one of the most exciting developing technologies out there, and combining it with video games puts these companies ahead of the curve. This makes them joining BLMP an exciting prospect for gamers and fans of AR alike as they can look forward to the benefits the platforms offers and the opportunity to both purchase licensed virtual goods and connect with players from other gaming communities. </div> |

| title | How BLMP Helps You Retain Complete Control Over Your Content |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> BLMP allows brands and content creators to maintain complete control over all of their IP (intellectual property) with a set of unique features that utilize the latest in blockchain technology. These include such elements as tracking tools, smart contracts, and more that protect IP all of which can be managed from an interface that is easy to navigate, removing the hassles which have previously hindered proper management of all kinds of content. For example, the use of smart contracts, which are also known as ‘self-enforcing contracts’ tied directly into the blockchain, no aspect of an agreement can be voided or otherwise altered without the consent of both parties. Instead, the instructions are stored on the blockchain and the terms of the contract are carried out automatically without either entity having to perform any action or double check that revenues are distributed fairly and on time. This prevents anyone from not disclosing that sales are made so content creators, publishers, and brands all receive the appropriate cut of the revenue without delay and nobody can be cheated. Additionally, the terms of these agreements explicitly stipulate all the ways that content may be used, and therefore prevents unauthorized use. Any time a virtual good is created it is assigned its own serial number which is stored on the blockchain and every time it’s used this action is recorded. So if any virtual asset or other form of content is misused, the maligned party may sever the contract and the offending party no longer has access to the IP. Not only that, but BLMP has developed its own cryptocurrency which makes transactions even more trackable and transparent. The various kinds of tokens offer numerous advantages to anyone who purchases them and are the only means of purchasing licensed virtual goods on the platform. Given these features, it’s simple for content creators of all types and across industries to expand their reach by creating licensed virtual goods, the value of which is clear to buyers, sellers, and the holders of the IP. This will result in a thriving market for these virtual assets in which everyone involved can conduct transactions securely and with confidence. </div> |

| title | Paying Taxes on Cryptocurrency |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> There were many new adopters of various cryptocurrencies in 2017, but a large number of early investors saw an opportunity to buy in and then cash out to make good on their returns. However, this strategy is one that leaves them open to massive tax liabilities — especially since a majority of users aren’t clear about how exactly tax laws apply to virtual currencies. [According to the Internal Revenue Service,](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-14-21.pdf) virtual currency transactions are taxable under the law. The agency’s only guidance regarding how tax principles apply to cryptocurrency transactions was issued in 2014. It states that for tax purposes, that cryptocurrencies must be treated not as currency, but property. That guidance then includes anything which is considered a “convertible virtual currency,” meaning it has an equivalent value in a tangible currency or can be substituted for these currencies. Although not all cryptocurrencies act in this manner many of the major ones, this is applicable to many of them, such as bitcoin. In short, if you have bought bitcoin or another cryptocurrency but haven’t sold it, then you haven’t realized any gains, so that means you may not have any reporting obligations. However, if you sell any cryptocurrency you do need to report the gains and losses. This is done by reporting any gains, but unlike stocks, with cryptocurrency, you don’t receive a 1099 tax form from a brokerage firm and so you have to determine what you’re liable for when it comes to taxes. The next consideration is that since cryptocurrency is equated to property, although you have to report any gains, you can also save money when you have to report losses. There are three pieces of information that you’ll need and those are: - When you purchased the cryptocurrency. - How much you paid for it. - When you sold it. - What you received for it. Even though you may not think of cryptocurrency as being traceable, just because you aren’t working directly with a broker doesn’t mean you can or should hide any trades. Should the IRS discover trades you haven’t reported, then you may be subjected to penalties and fines. Finally, as with any any investment, you need to be sure and keep track of your gains and losses and maintain up to date records. Not only will this be helpful in determining what cryptocurrencies are the most profitable, but it will also save you time when it comes time to file your taxes. </div> |

| title | Explaining Coin Burn |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> There are a number of strategies for making money from cryptocurrencies. One of them is to buy those digital currencies which are known to “burn” themselves. Coin burn entails sending coins to a public address from which they cannot be spent because the private keys of this address are inaccessible. Yet, although the coins can’t be utilized, the address has to be viewable on the blockchain for everyone else in the community. - There are several reasons for coin burn. - To make new coins or tokens. - To reward token or coin owners. - To destroy unsold coins or tokens following an ICO or token sale. The method through which coins are burned is called “proof-of-burn,” and there are numerous kinds, but all accomplish the same thing. Proof-of-burn allows for consensus to be achieved on the blockchain and is an alternative to proof-of-work. In other words, miners and other users can prove that they have burned coins and completed a transaction. One example of this is an exchange, as outlined above. In return for sending cryptocurrency to an unspendable address, tokens might be generated on the blockchain. This is one way of reusing energy that is consumed by mining cryptocurrency and benefits everyone as it’s not limited to one group of miners or users. Of course, by burning coins or tokens you can limit the amount of a particular type of currency, which then drives up its value among anyone who HODLs it. This is one way of circumventing regulations that prevent companies from openly giving their users direct dividends. Additionally, when all the tokens or coins for an ICO or token sale aren’t sold, burning the digital currency ensures that everyone has a fair stake in the total cryptocurrency pool rather than allowing companies to sell the additional tokens and make a large profit. So while coin burn may not be a strategy that everyone in the cryptocurrency utilizes, its applications are varied and ultimately beneficial to all users and promote trust and the possibility of greater profits. </div> |

| title | Former Nintendo America Director joins BLMP as VP of Digital Platforms |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> BLMP — *Blockchain Licensing Market Place*, an innovative blockchain platform that is bringing transparency and efficiency to the virtual goods market, has recently recruited Darren Smith to its team. Known for his tenure as Director of Nintendo America, Smith offers valuable insight into the development & implementation of a successful virtual platform. BLMP was created to help solve some of the biggest challenges facing the virtual goods market. Growth in the industry has been stalled by the fact that brands and digital publishers often cannot efficiently form licensing partnerships. BLMP uses advanced intellectual property tracking, smart contracts, and other blockchain-based technologies to shore up these problems and bolster the market for virtual goods. As the new Vice President of Digital Platforms, Darren Smith will have a positive impact on BLMP’s development efforts. Smith is a skilled professional with experience in a range of technologies, ranging from platform development, IP licensing to user experience. With this expertise, he can not only help BLMP develop an efficient, secure platform, but also make sure that platform is easy to use for all brands, publishers, and content creators. **BLMP & the Future of Virtual Goods** Virtual goods are digital items purchased and used on social media platforms, in games as well as other online environments. Items such as skins used for video games are in high demand, and currently can sell for more than $50K USD. There is a large untapped opportunity for licensed virtual goods, but the industry first needs to resolve a number of challenges that include: - **Agreement Issues** — To produce and sell virtual goods, there must be solid licensing agreements between brands and digital publishers. But due to their vastly different goals and priorities, signing such an agreement is a lengthy and arduous process. - **Authenticity Obstacles** — Brands and consumers both need to know that virtual goods are sold with proper permissions. But because it’s so hard to track such sales, they cannot be confident about whether goods have been verified. - **Royalty Tracking** — Virtual goods can only be sold on a large scale if brands, creators, and publishers each know they will be properly compensated for every sale. BLMP uses the blockchain to resolve these problems. By tracking all transactions involving proprietary goods, it eliminates doubts about authenticity. Likewise, the platform uses the blockchain to develop smart contracts that enforce themselves as well as facilitate virtual goods payments. Given these innovations, brands and publishers will no longer face obstacles in forming profitable partnerships. **Darren Smith** Darren Smith is the former Director of Nintendo America and a video game industry veteran. While at Nintendo, he developed, produced games, applications, online services, eCommerce systems, and game platforms. He was responsible for the development and operations of Nintendo’s online services on the Wii and Nintendo DS/DSi platforms in the Americas, including eCommerce services in Wii Shop and DSi Shop storefronts for downloadable games, virtual goods, and other add-on content. Additionally, Darren secured and managed the introduction of key internet brands and services such as Netflix and Facebook across Nintendo’s platform. At BLMP, Darren plays a critical role working around the clock on digital platform integration and digital platform adoption. </div> |

| title | How Some ICOs Promote Investor Returns |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> With the SEC stepping in to tell companies and app projects to scale back on some of the biggest promises they make to investors, it’s a good opportunity to examine both how to interpret the promises made by companies, whether these standards should be revised, and what the best move is when there is no explicit promise on returns — but investor expectations are high. This has occurred with many companies, who skirt regulations by omitting mention of things like “dividends” but still give the impression that investors will see rewards but offer no concrete plan or little information on how this will occur. Here are several ICOs which have offered returns to investors. Now, offering returns is not in and of itself problematic, it’s a lack of transparency that needs to be addressed throughout the cryptocurrency space. [Token Desk (TDS)](https://www.tokendesk.io/) Token Desk is a blockchain based web platform as well as a marketplace for cryptocurrency crowdfunding. Its mission is to allow investors to purchase tokens in a manner which is faster and more secure. The company has made the following statements regarding promised gains to investors: “TokenDesk aims spend 12% of our NET profit quarterly for buy back TDS Tokens. It increases TDS Tokens value and liquidity gradually. Tokens, that are bought, will be burned by a smart contract.” [Rhovit (RBIT)](http://www.rhovit.info/) Rhovit is a platform which makes it possible for users to utilize cryptocurrency to pay for content. They have yet to release their beta, but have made a number of claims on their site. Once a year an annual “Dividend” of the Rbit Tokens collected in the User Pool will be distributed out to the User community.” [MobileGo (MGO)](https://gamecredits.com/) GameCredits is a universal currency and virtual wallet for gamers around the world. The company’s currency is called Gamecredits, and its use is tied into the returns promised to investors. As the company has claimed: “The more gamers that use the Gamecredits mobile platform the more Gamecredits should be purchased and spent in games. This should create more demand for Gamecredits. In return, the success of the platform should result in a large economy for the gamification of the platform and the usability of MobileGo tokens.” There are hundreds of other ICOs both successful and in development, and while they don’t share the same features, there are a number of ways that they can better promote user returns. Firstly, by making the protocol behind the platform, coins, and associated technologies accessible companies can assure investors that the foundation is secure and solid. Some protocols may offer more features, but if they’re not tied into the blockchain, the entire platform is vulnerable to hacking. Secondly, no ICO should make expansive claims about how much money an investor will receive upon funding. Realistic expectations may not be as impressive when it comes to profits, but they are more in line with SEC regulations, and given the direction regulation appears to be headed when it comes to technology companies and ICOs in particular, this would seem to be the sort of best practices that will be beneficial to everyone. </div> |
