| body | Over the last semester the crypto space deluded a lot of newcomers that got into it lured by promises of shiny Lambos, but from a technological point of view the crypto space has never been more busy. With many projects quickly advancing on their roadmaps, it’s not easy to keep track of everything is happening right now, but there are some things that as an investor you MUST keep well under your control. One of this is the token swaps. Token swaps in the most classic form consist of a swap (usually 1:1) of the old ERC-20 compatible tokens in the new blockchain tokens and occur after a project moves its activities from a support blockchain or a Testnet to its Mainnet. In some cases the process is very straightforward, but in others there might be some tricky actions pending on your side that you don’t want to miss. My general suggestions for you are: It’s still too early to “buy and forget” about your holdings, especially if you’re dealing with ERC-20 tokens: check their status every now and then Subscribe to the Twitter and Medium channels of the projects of which you own the tokens. In this way all the announcements of important actions will come to you timely Subscribe to the Twitter channel of the main exchanges like Binance or Bitfinex to receive updates on the upcoming swaps Holding your funds on an exchange might not be the safer solution, but some major exchanges usually support token swaps, meaning that they will do it for you. You just have to wait till normal trading is restored. Rely on experts that constantly keep the market monitored and subscribe to their channels to receive news, instructions and help. Here’s a list that I put together of the most important upcoming token swaps. Read carefully, open the links that will bring you to the official channels of the projects and ask for our help if something is not clear. ICON ICON has launched its Mainnet on last January 24. The Token Swap will be made with an exchange rate of one ERC20 ICX token to one mainnet ICX coin. The token swap will be implemented either via exchange or ICONex wallet (ICON native wallet). If you’re holding ICX on the main exchanges there’s no action pending on you, just wait until they announce that the swap is finished and the token can be traded again. I’m referring to Binance, OKex, Huobi, Bithumb and Upbit. This should happen in few days from now, keep the Twitter channels of the exchanges monitored. If you’re holding the ICONex wallet you have to use to the Token Swap button (screenshot below) that swaps your ERC20 ICX tokens stored in the ICONex ETH wallet with mainnet ICX coins and moved to the ICONex ICX wallet. This process started the last June 25 and you’ll have 3 months time to complete the swap. Read the official post at: https://medium.com/helloiconworld/token-swap-status-update-9a41c8448006 ONTOLOGY Ontology Mainnet, “Ontology 1.0”, went live on June 30, 2018. Mapping will begin on July 9th, 2018 and finish October 1st, 2018. The token swap will be implemented either via exchange or wallets. If you’re holding ONT on the main exchanges there’s no action pending on you, just wait until they announce that the swap is finished and the token can be traded again. Exchanges supporting the swap are Binance, Huobi Pro, Upbit, KuCoin, OKEx and CoinEgg. If you’re holding you ONT on the ONTO wallet you will need to download the client, import your NEO private key or wallet import format (WIF), click the “Mainnet ONT Token Swap” link, and wait for the mapping to complete. Other wallets that will support the ONT Mainnet Token Swap are O3 and SEA wallet. If ONT token holders do not convert their NEP-5 ONT (the equivalent of ERC-20 in the NEO blockchain) tokens to Ontology Mainnet ONT tokens during that time frame, they will not have another chance to do so. However, the technology is not yet live, and will only be active after VeChain migrates from the Ethereum blockchain — where it exists as an ERC20 token — to a wholly independent network. On Monday, the foundation announced that it would address the community’s concerns by extending the X Node migration period for ten days after the VeChainThor Ledger app is available. It also said that X Node monitoring will start three weeks after the mobile token swap service becomes available — though it has not yet provided exact dates for these events. | body | Hi @bitassist you don't have to do anything to claim your airdrops, if you met the criteria to the airdrops you got them ;) but please note that currently there wasn't any airdrop to the eos mainnet YET. The airdrops you are referring to are ERC-20 tokens that will be converted to the EOS mainnet, or airdrops that will use the currently EOS snapshot. But they should be done pretty soon. When they are deployed effectively to the eos mainnet, we will display them on our walltet :) |

All I see is; Your other tokens, such as Airdrops, will appear here. My question do I need to do something to claim them or does it just take time to sync? Would appreciate any assistance :) |

| body | There is a buzz of excitement in the air. Blockchain technology is poised to disrupt the entire internet based services industry with promises of increased security, transparency and transaction speeds. As the cornerstone of blockchain technology, Bitcoin has held over 50% of the total market value up until now, but this is not necessarily an indication of the future trend. Ambitious projects such as the IOTA Tangle are going beyond the blockchain in an attempt to solve the scalability issues inherent to Nakamoto’s blockchain design. _As the Cryptocurrency market continues to mature, it’s paramount that investors hedge their risk. As many new investors buy their first blockchain based coins from Coinbase – Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash or Litecoin – they must be aware of the high growth potential assets out of reach of the Coinbase platform._ One prime example is IOTA where the team have already implemented what is considered by some as blockchain 2.0. The IOTA tangle achieves similar outcomes to blockchain technology with far fewer limitations. Here’s a brief overview of the IOTA Tangle project to help you assess whether it should be part of your investment portfolio. Blockchain 2.0 – What’s limiting about blockchain technology? The blockchain technology that powers Bitcoin, enables a decentralized, distributed public ledger that can be used for everything from currency to property rights. Whilst some praise the technology for its success, others criticise the increasing latency that is inherent with user growth, in some cases waiting 12 hours for a transaction to complete. Why are transaction times increasing as the network gains more users? To answer this we need to understand how transactions are put into blocks. For a transaction to be recorded, it is packed into a block before being approved by the miners on the network. Once the transaction has been packed, the block becomes part of the chain and miners begin to work on the subsequent block. As the technology gains more users, there are a greater number of transactions that need to be recorded, yet the rate that blocks are packed remains constant at around ten minutes. Put another way, imagine a 1MB block holds 100 transactions, this means that 100 transactions can be approved by the network every 10 minutes. Now imagine that instead of requiring to fulfill 100 transactions in 10 minutes, the Bitcoin protocol has to fulfill 200 transactions, this will take two 1MB blocks in order to complete the backlog of transactions, which is around 20 minutes. A transaction that took 10 minutes before could now take two or more times longer, increasing in line with the increasing network demand. Now imagine you wanted to send real time, secured and immutable data on the blockchain, you would constantly be receiving it long after it was sent. This latency in transaction times is a key focus of the IOTA protocol. The IOTA protocol does not rely on the linear transaction confirmations of a blockchain, instead using the IOTA Tangle. What is IOTA and how does it solve the scaling problem? IOTA is an open-source distributed ledger that is primarily focused on providing cryptographically secure payments and communications amongst the Internet of Things (IOT). IOTA goes beyond the blockchain, using directed acyclic graphs (DAG) to help solve the scaling problem faced by the linear data structure of blockchain technology. Without the need for highly energy intensive mining systems, IOTA’s transactions can be free regardless of the size of the transaction. Confirmation times are fast since the DAG technology can handle unlimited transactions simultaneously across the network. _Having recently announced an arms length collaboration with the likes of Microsoft, Deutshe Telicom and Fujitsu, the IOTA team is well positioned to be a prominent player in the Internet of Things technology space._ Conclusion With Bitcoin holding the lion’s share of the cryptocurrency market since its inception in 2009, the race for the top spot is hotting up. Analysts, enthusiasts and investors are eagerly watching the market in anticipation of the leaders of tomorrow. Whilst IOTA is not necessarily aiming for Bitcoin’s position as top cryptocurrency, the revolutionary application of directed acyclic graphs in bringing together a network of 2.5 quintillion bytes of data make it a strong contender for the position of largest market capitalisation of a distributed, open source, cryptographic database. _Whether it takes the top spot or not, we believe IOTA a promising successor to the blockchain and a worthy component of any investment portfolio. Diversify your Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Ethereum holdings today with the assistance of BITASSIST._ Website: www.bitassist.co.uk Disclaimer: This should not be taken as investment advice and readers are urged to do their own research from a variety of resources prior to making any investments. | body | A protocol is a set of rules or operating procedures that determine how a software program should operate. There are a number of different protocols that utilise blockchain technology and over the next few posts I’ll be outlining the biggest and best currently in development. But first, let’s understand what a protocol really is…. Protocols are essentially the rules that govern software programs. If we want to use a certain program, we’ll need to follow the rules it outlines. Through outlining certain rules or parameters, different protocols produce different user outcomes. The parameters defined by a protocol can relate to a number of different variables including how secure the system is, how data is transferred between users or how long transaction take to be processed. When designing a blockchain protocol, developers decide on which rules they think will optimise their system. **How does this relate to blockchain technology?** Well, different blockchains have different protocols depending on what they’re trying to achieve. A protocol designed to support smart contracts will be different from a protocol designed for supporting digital currency. Even when a blockchain protocol has the same objective as another, it can be designed differently - there are often numerous different ways of achieving the same outcome. *In the following series I’ll be outlining some of the top protocols currently in development - What they are, what they’re used for and how they work. As always, if you have any more questions, drop me a comment and I’d be happy to help.* Written by BlockchainJames https://www.blockchainjames.co.uk/ |

| body | With over 1 Billion people without access to reliable energy, greater than 1 Billion people underbanked and 750 million illiterate adults, companies have started to offer blockchain solutions to challenges faced in the developing world. *A number of platforms have been emerging in the financial services space claiming to solve the world’s greatest challenges. I want to bring a dose of reality back to the table. To name a couple in an already crowded space, Humaniq.com claims to bring financial inclusion to 2.5 Billion people and Suncontract want to bring energy solar panel owners trade their energy for Suncoins. This review focuses on the asymmetry between Humaniq's financial inclusion mission statement and the system they aim to put in place.* With newly minted digital coins valuing the sum of these businesses at $30 million, it’s concerning that the solutions they offer are far quicker to monetise challenges faced by the developing world than trying to understand how to improve them. Despite the seemingly good intentions of these companies, they are missing the most intrinsic element of development economics, financial security. Before explaining why Humaniq falls short in this critical area, i’ll give you an overview of the project. The principle of cryptocurrencies such as Humaniq is in creating a coin native to their business that acts as a digital exchange of value, replacing traditional Fiat currency. For example, instead of receiving sales in Kenyan Shillings, companies such as Humaniq encourage users to receive HMQ coins. The platform goes a step further in offering additional HMQ coins as incentives for encouraging other community members to spend and receive HMQ. As a digital currency, exchanging HMQ requires users to own smartphones which Humaniq’s ambitious project also aims to provide. On the surface, this sounds like an incredible project right? Well not really. Whilst there are a number of advantages in switching to a blockchain based currency such as lower transaction fees, immutability of ownership and reduction of counterparty risk, these currencies are extremely volatile. At current, users have no way of securing the market value of the HMQ tokens their holding. This means that the equivalent of 8 hours pay received on Thursday could be worth less than 5 hours pay by Saturday. Yes, I know what you’re thinking and you’re not wrong. The volatile price could equally mean a user increases their equivalent pay through doing nothing. However, let’s be real, this unpredictable and volatile value of holdings will do nothing to improve a user’s financial situation, in fact I would strongly argue that it would weaken it. Imagine the user needs to pay school fees, medical bills or food and at the point when their HMQ coins are worth 60% of the value she earned them at. In the lowest income bracket, the typical user often spends 90% of their income on subsistence and if this income were eroded 40%, the holder simply wouldn’t have enough to cover their expenses. I don’t disagree with the intentions of projects like Humaniq, but I do find it deeply concerning that investors blindly support these projects without considering the reality of these projects. **Summary** In order for Cryptocurrency to successfully aid the unbanked it needs to take the same shape as the fiat currencies it aims to replace. With companies such as Humaniq having raised millions of dollars in an attempt to improve the financial position of those in developing economies it is clear that investors want to help the cause. However, in order to be truly successful in alleviating poverty through financial access it’s paramount that they consider the huge risk of holding savings in a highly volatile currency. Whilst there are a number of possible solutions, a good place to start is either with localising the circulation of coins so non-market participants cannot speculatively trade HMQ or through providing hedging instruments within their app to secure an FX rate between HMQ and local Fiat. Without this change in approach, this project and other to come are at risk of worsening rather than approving the financial position of those in the developing world.! | body | With over 1 Billion people without access to reliable energy, greater than 1 Billion people underbanked and 750 million illiterate adults, companies have started to offer blockchain solutions to challenges faced in the developing world. Without this change in approach, this project and other to come are at risk of worsening rather than approving the financial position of those in the developing world.!\n\nWritten by **BlockchainJames**\nhttps://www.blockchainjames.co.uk\n\n[Digital currency for the unbanked.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVLZLh8qSLnZG8vrdVTG6iJsRxRR5Q37JA2t4Q9Vsea4m/Digital%20currency%20for%20the%20unbanked.jpg)",
