| author | betterbrain |
| body | <html> <h1>It happened again...</h1> <p>You meet with your friends and start talking about the "good old times". You remember about all the good things that happened and it seems like there were nothing bad about those times. Remembering about the old times, you smile and you feel happy.</p> <p>IT COULD GO OTHERWISE TOO.. If you are a bit pessimistic, you just remember about the sad times of past(Which is much more accurate but not healthy).</p> (took this picture in france) <h1>Why does this happen?</h1> <p>- Human brain is a perfect survival machine and thankfully it has a unique ability to filter unwanted memories. While going through real bad times, human brain zones out so that it doesn't have to feel everything that is happening in reality. Does it mean that our brain is altering our reality? "body": "<html>\n<h1>It happened again...</h1>\n<p>You meet with your friends and start talking about the \"good old times\". You remember about all the good things that happened and it seems like there were nothing bad about those times. Remembering about the old times, you smile and you feel happy.</p>\n<p>IT COULD GO OTHERWISE TOO.. If you are a bit pessimistic, you just remember about the sad times of past(Which is much more accurate but not healthy).</p>\n\n (took this picture in france)\n<h1>Why does this happen?</h1>\n<p>- Human brain is a perfect survival machine and thankfully it has a unique ability to filter unwanted memories. While going through real bad times, human brain zones out so that it doesn't have to feel everything that is happening in reality. Does it mean that our brain is altering our reality? | body | Humans have evolved from animals.. We humans have been here for more than 100,000 years and we have been living in civilizations since 10,000 years.. And all that time, we have tried to accomplish only one thing, HOW NOT TO BE ANIMALS.. We still have the same mind that our ancestors had 10,000 years ago.. Our brain was not built for all the extreme porn that we can see at just one click.. Human brain WAS complicated subject until the dawn of 21st century, NOT ANYMORE.. We know more about our brain in just 5 years, than we ever knew in 200 years.. Our brain is like an intricate network of highways, the more we use it, the stronger it gets.. That is how habits are developed.. Any new habit takes 66+ days to develop(more and more neuron paths in our brain work together to form a habit).. Habit is mild form of addiction.. we can change habits with some efforts but addictions are tough to break (actually, we can never break addictions).. I talked about highways in brain, we can make highways, but we cannot break highways.. Though, it is up to us if we don't want to use the highways.. In that case, after some months(or a year), that highway will get so dirty that we will feel tough to go through it again.. Porn is like any other habit viz. running, waking up early, etc. But what makes it addictive like smoking and cocaine is its effect on our brain.. It is easy to stop smoking but tough to leave porn.. Habits and addiction have a simple difference - addiction joins the habit with our basic "risk and reward" system.. Humans have two very basic motivation(even animals have it) - SEX(for survival of species) and FOOD(for survival of body).. porn exploits our most basic motivation SEX by tricking our brain into thinking that we are having sex when we are actually NOT.. Porn has been proved to effect human brain in the most subtle yet devastating way. But there is very less research available in this area. Reason? people are ashamed to talk about it, magazines say that masturbation is normal. Porn is a 100 Billion dollar industry, people think that it is normal and natural.. And who said that all natural things are normal? I am here to tell you that porn is not normal and masturbation is not normal either.. Lets talk about logical fallacies(mistakes in thought process) that stops us from making correct decisions.. 1) Bandwagon Effect - Though we're often unconscious of it, we love to go with the flow of the crowd. people say porn is normal, we accept it and feel good about watching porn. 2) Observational Selection Bias - when we buy red colored car, we see red cars everywhere. our brain tricks us into ignoring all the ill effects of porn because it likes porn. 3) Media Bias - when popular media says something, we accept it.. that magazine , online article , tv news said that masturbation is good - so it is good.(media is built with people who don't give two shit about you and me, they just care about their TRP) 4) self bias - when people assume that they are special and bad things can't happen to them.. others maybe addicted to porn, not me - i just watch porn once a week.(try leaving porn and masturbation for one month and you will know) 5) Ingroup Bias - everyone is falling in the well, i should fall too.. everyone in my friend group is watching porn, and nothing happened to them - it is normal - i should watch too. What does it mean for you? It is not simple by any means but rewards are amazing. Porn is just like any other habit and you can put it behind you through some simple exercises and being cautious. porn makes you numb and emotionally unavailable. for some emotional people, it causes them to feel ashamed all the time. Here is a testimony from one of the ex-addict - "During the heights of my porn addiction, I never looked forward to much of anything: dreaded going to work, and never saw socializing with friends and family as all that great, especially in comparison to my porn rituals, which gave me more pleasure and stimulation than anything else. With the addiction gone, little things make me really happy. I find myself laughing often, smiling for no real reason, and just being in good spirits all around." I have read about the methods and techniques to apply this in my life, do comment and let me know if you like these kinds of articles or you want to read an in-depth article about it. |

| body | This is one of the most important "event" in the present online arena and there is a lot to learn from it. https://s.thestreet.com/files/tsc/v2008/photos/contrib/uploads/46cbbe22-a762-11e6-8e4b-35f2a338c4d4_600x400.jpg (source- the street) As you might know, Google has already fired the employee James Damore who wrote the internal memo which was leaked. It was the obvious consequence and the engineer was probably ready for it. Google has been on the extreme left since the start of this year because being open to both the sides was really affecting its profits. It all started since the Wall Street Journal author Jack Nicas wrote an article about the YouTube's algorithm that ran ads of big brands alongside objectionable videos. It had a snowball effect and big brands like coke, amazon and Microsoft pulled off their ads from YouTube. See, capitalism is very direct and leaves no room for mistakes. Most of the online american population is liberal. conservatives have never been much interested in online community because of the structure of conservatism which forces them to get a real job and spend more time with people. Extremism is the root cause of any destruction and I'll explain it further. While online population is mostly liberal, and the ads of "amazon" and "Microsoft" are directed towards liberals too, running ads with controversial videos affects the goodwill of the companies. When these giants pull off their advertisements from the YouTube, google earns less money and no business wants this. Google was essentially forced into Left. Since that time, YouTube has "demonetized" most of the videos and channels which had controversial content like anti-feminism, trump supporters, trolling, pranks, etc. At first, it might seem like a good thing because it clears the antisocial content from online community. On thinking more, we realize that the feminist content which included verbal abuse and explicit words doesn't get demonetized. Even the channels bashing trump supporters weren't demonetized. So there is a partiality and it is not subtle. You can go on YouTube and see for yourself. What happened next was not expected, most of the "controversial" channels didn't shut down their account, they used patreon account to earn money. others included independent advertisements from small businesses in their videos and earned money. Fast forward to now, google is still on the extreme left trying to retain the traffic and this memo gets leaked. Here are some of the highlights of the memo(source - http://gizmodo.com/exclusive-heres-the-full-10-page-anti-diversity-screed-1797564320)- - Google has several biases and honest discussion about these biases is being silenced by the dominant ideology. - At Google, we talk so much about unconscious bias as it applies to race and gender, but we rarely discuss our moral biases. Political orientation is actually a result of deep moral preferences and thus biases. Considering that the overwhelming majority of the social sciences, media, and Google lean left, we should critically examine these prejudices. - Then he wrote a great deal about the gender bias that has been popularized within google and how it is not correct. - Philosophically, I don’t think we should do arbitrary social engineering of tech just to make it appealing to equal portions of both men and women. For each of these changes, we need principles reasons for why it helps Google; that is, we should be optimizing for Google—with Google’s diversity being a component of that. For example currently those trying to work extra hours or take extra stress will inevitably get ahead and if we try to change that too much, it may have disastrous consequences. Also, when considering the costs and benefits, we should keep in mind that Google’s funding is finite so its allocation is more zero-sum than is generally acknowledged. - As soon as we start to moralize an issue, we stop thinking about it in terms of costs and benefits, dismiss anyone that disagrees as immoral, and harshly punish those we see as villains to protect the “victims.” Article was very direct and was not extremely right or left. It was very objective. but still the person got silenced(fired) because it contradicted the "group think". Google is too big to fail right now and the emotional and economic codes are forcing it to lean on the left. I am not saying that anything is wrong or right with what google is doing, any other company would have done the same. the question is, how far are we willing to go in order to support the left? |

| body | Slut shaming has been an intricate part of human society since thousands of years and there were good reason for that. Lack of contraceptives and medical technology meant sure death to the person affected by STDs. This also affected the institution of marriages. Marriages have always been relevant because pooling of resources and sharing responsibilities meant better survival of the offspring. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/68/63/2b/68632be9af185f553e612094c3cbe1b0--double-standards-worthless.jpg Humans have always been pervasive since the dawn of civilization. It is mathematically impossible to have 7 Billion humans without inbreeding. For thousands of years our ancestors lived in small, isolated populations, leaving them severely inbred, according to a new genetic analysis. The inbreeding may have caused a host of health problems, and it is likely that small populations were a barrier to the development of complex technologies. A 2010 study concluded that our ancestors 1.2 million years ago had a population of just 18,500 individuals, spread over a vast area. We cannot judge the history through the standards of today. Those times had different moral structures and there was "group think". Being together was much more important for the survival than challenging the popular beliefs. Slut shaming was very relevant in those times because having the family together and keeping the society "pure" was important. Stereotyping is another important factor in human thought process, it originate from tribalism. As there was a hostile environment and it would be hard to distinguish between people of own tribe and another tribe, human brain developed tribalism separating own people from other people. stereotyping saved humans from getting cheated/tricked by wrong people. Slut shaming is a process of stereotyping where the "wrong people" were advertised. It really helped early humans because they lived by a code of conduct(religions) and anyone who contradicts the scriptures were essentially "shamed" in different ways. In Hinduism, even males were slut shamed. It all depends on the social evolution. Gossips have always been a part of our social structure. I'll be posting about the sad effects of unchecked slut shamming in the next article. |

"body": "Slut shaming has been an intricate part of human society since thousands of years and there were good reason for that. Lack of contraceptives and medical technology meant sure death to the person affected by STDs. This also affected the institution of marriages. Marriages have always been relevant because pooling of resources and sharing responsibilities meant better survival of the offspring.\n\nhttps://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/68/63/2b/68632be9af185f553e612094c3cbe1b0--double-standards-worthless.jpg\n\nHumans have always been pervasive since the dawn of civilization. A 2010 study concluded that our ancestors 1.2 million years ago had a population of just 18,500 individuals, spread over a vast area.\n\nWe cannot judge the history through the standards of today. Those times had different moral structures and there was \"group think\". Being together was much more important for the survival than challenging the popular beliefs. Slut shaming was very relevant in those times because having the family together and keeping the society \"pure\" was important.\n\nStereotyping is another important factor in human thought process, it originate from tribalism. As there was a hostile environment and it would be hard to distinguish between people of own tribe and another tribe, human brain developed tribalism separating own people from other people. stereotyping saved humans from getting cheated/tricked by wrong people.\n\nSlut shaming is a process of stereotyping where the \"wrong people\" were advertised. It really helped early humans because they lived by a code of conduct(religions) and anyone who contradicts the scriptures were essentially \"shamed\" in different ways. In Hinduism, even males were slut shamed. It all depends on the social evolution. Gossips have always been a part of our social structure. \n\nI'll be posting about the sad effects of unchecked slut shamming in the next article.",

| body | Business - State of being busy, A commercial activity In reality, business is not about being busy or getting caught in slurries of activities. Business is simply about making money. even if you have a turnover of millions of Dollars and you have 500k in debt, its is not business - it is a trap. I have seen people trying to make their business big by taking debt and having huge marketing campaigns just to earn a little profit. If your small business is earning 10-20% percent profit, it is doomed. Refurbishing - Taking a broken product for low price and fixing it and then selling it for a lower price than original(with a one year warranty). Let's say that you are refurbishing mac-books - 1. You have to buy them from people who have done unspeakable things with it and you will pay them upfront. 2. You bought them assuming some problem, but after opening it you come across another problem and you have to fix that too - spending more money. 3. Cleaning job is very important to make them look like new. 4. Opening an ebay account and selling them there at shared profits. 5. You have to give one year warranty too. What is the problem with it? 1. Technology is getting cheaper everyday. company is selling same mac-books at cheaper rates because they have a new line of mac-books. 2. you are selling these at 60-70% of the original price. why would a customer buy an outdated price for a product at that price when company is selling them for 70% price now? 3. Warranty comes at a real cost because old laptops have old motherboards and sometimes they get their fuses broken. 4. profit margin is low and there is no uniformity of performance in two mac-books. here is a mac from an independent refurbisher Here is the same refurbished mac from apple Here is a new mac from apple which is much better than old versions and price is just 35% higher Notice the price difference? Why a customer shouldn't buy a refurbished product? as a buyer, you are buying it for productivity. warranties are all good but it is important that these shouldn't get broken at the first place. repairs take upto 15 days. I wouldn't put sensitive data in a refurbished product. What is the solution? Refurbishing is certainly a noble cause because it saves the world from a lot of junk. But a business should be a win-win for everyone. Until the business finds a way to get prices lower than 40% of the original prices, this is doomed. Companies are well equipped with tools to refurbish products and therefore they can invest in this business(but they want to sell new products too and hence they will not sell refurbished products at much lower prices) |

| body | There is no other way to say this - EVERYTHING DEPENDS AT THE STATE OF MIND I took this picture on a recent trip to Paris - Says a lot about Paris, and me.. Paris is an idea, a dream, a promise of beauty(of romanticism) which leads us to believe that everything is possible and there are no limits. At first glance, everyone believes that promise. I wish i could tell you that "Paris" is real. As you spend more time in that city, you realize that there is something quiet different underneath all that. While it is doing really well economically, personal life has quiet degraded over the years. There are many factors to it, but ultimately we all are responsible. Marriage is not much popular and It is almost impossible to raise children in Paris because of the high living cost. So now we have a society where "lonely" people live in studio apartments(almost 60% paris is studio apartments). We observe a short timeline of world and struggle to survive in it. We rarely challenge the change in society because it seems like a natural progression. Societies doesn't change in a day, change is slow and steady - almost pervasive - - - - until we find ourselves in a failed society. Love will last forever(or until the next coating of paint) “To be ignorant of what happened before you were born is to live the life of a child forever. For what is a man's life, unless woven into the life of our ancestors by the memory of past deeds?” - - Marcus Tullius Cicero We never had Paris. France was an experiment(a revolution) and we are still waiting for the results. we can always "live in now" but that wouldn't really build a better future. We can be happy but that wouldn't really ensure our survival. I'm presenting an alternate reality which doesn't look for "paris". We are equipped with a BRAIN that doesn't like fake happiness, our reward centers can distinguish illusion from reality. Unless we are being the best of what we can, there will be an underlying depression. No matter how beautiful it looks, We don't need Paris. http://apherald-nkywabj.stackpathdns.com/ImageStore/images/movies/movies-wallpapers/paris-bomb-blast-latest-photos16.jpg And other things that comes with it(photo credits - APherald) What ensures a Better future? A Better Brain, A humble personality, A just society, A structured family. What do you think? I have read hundreds of books and have visited many places over the years. I have never written an article before but i have been quoted in a book. I am constantly trying to understand the world and how our decisions are essentially shaping our destiny. I'll write more focused articles in future and hopefully I'll learn a lot from this community. |

"body": "There is no other way to say this - EVERYTHING DEPENDS AT THE STATE OF MIND\nI took this picture on a recent trip to Paris - Says a lot about Paris, and me..\n\n\n\nParis is an idea, a dream, a promise of beauty(of romanticism) which leads us to believe that everything is possible and there are no limits. At first glance, everyone believes that promise. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nI wish i could tell you that \"Paris\" is real. So now we have a society where \"lonely\" people live in studio apartments(almost 60% paris is studio apartments).\n\nWe observe a short timeline of world and struggle to survive in it. We rarely challenge the change in society because it seems like a natural progression. Societies doesn't change in a day, change is slow and steady - almost pervasive - - - - until we find ourselves in a failed society.\n\n Love will last forever(or until the next coating of paint)\n\n“To be ignorant of what happened before you were born is to live the life of a child forever. For what is a man's life, unless woven into the life of our ancestors by the memory of past deeds?” - - Marcus Tullius Cicero\n\nWe never had Paris. France was an experiment(a revolution) and we are still waiting for the results. we can always \"live in now\" but that wouldn't really build a better future. We can be happy but that wouldn't really ensure our survival.\nI'm presenting an alternate reality which doesn't look for \"paris\". We are equipped with a BRAIN that doesn't like fake happiness, our reward centers can distinguish illusion from reality. Unless we are being the best of what we can, there will be an underlying depression.\n\n No matter how beautiful it looks, We don't need Paris.\n\nhttp://apherald-nkywabj.stackpathdns.com/ImageStore/images/movies/movies-wallpapers/paris-bomb-blast-latest-photos16.jpg \nAnd other things that comes with it(photo credits - APherald)\n\nWhat ensures a Better future?\nA Better Brain, A humble personality, A just society, A structured family.
