      "body": "Finding a good quality Western breakfast outside of a large hotel is still pretty tricky here in Yangon, and to be honest the local breakfasts are just so delicious you will wonder what you ever saw in eggs on toast anyway! That said, I have tried to put together a list that suits all budgets and dietary requirements.\n\n999 Shan Noodles\n\n34th Street off Mahabandoola Block. Open 6am onwards\n\nI pretty much had breakfast here every day for a month when I first moved to Yangon and it remains a firm favourite of mine. Choose from one of the many noodle options, or the Shan Htamin Chin, Shan style rice cooked with flakes of fish & potato and then topped with a tomato sauce and chunks of meltingly tender pork. On a recent visit a friend tried the fried egg which was almost a crepe-like omelette, studded with fiery chills and dripping in butter. So much better than western style eggs & well worth a try! My favourites are the Mohinga (a spiced fish broth with rice noodles) or the Samosa Thohk (vegetable samosas chopped in half and mixed with lettuce, tomato, mint and chilis and topped with a spicy lentil and chickpea broth) but they also offer a good selection of other dishes including a hearty rice topped with a fried egg, all manner of fried snacks (the duck pasties are a must!) and a delicious mutton curry with roti. In addition to all the local breakfast classics, they also serve a lovely seasonal fruit plate with around 6 different fruits on offer, as well as local yoghurt & honey, which may be easier for the uninitiated to stomach first thing. Open Daily from 8am\n\nThere cant be many noodle shops that are owned by chefs with experience in Michelin starred kitchens but then Nam Dao Kham is no ordinary noodle shop, in my humble opinion they serve some of the very best Shan Noodles in town. Choose which type of noodle you want, I like the fat, round rice noodles best, and whether you want them dry, with broth served on the side, or as a soup and then sit back and enjoy a bowl of deliciousness! I’d also recommend trying a side of the Steamed Rice and Chive Banana Leaf Dumplings & the Grilled Egg With Soy and Pepper. Think Brioche  French Toast with Yoghurt & Berries, Waffles with Lemongrass & Wild Honey Ice-cream, Oh No Khao Swe or the delicious Fresh Kneaded Roti with Saudage, Avocado, Duck Egg & Grilled Tomato. Prices start from 4,500 and rise to 12,000. Open Daily from 7am.\n\nEnjoy a great western style breakfast, safe in the knowledge that your money is directly helping the community. Yangon Bakehouse is a training cafe that was set up in 2012 as a way to empower local women through skills training and education. Since then, over 70 women have “graduated” from their training program, with all profits being ploughed back into helping the local community.\nIn addition to a great selection of bread and pastries, their breakfast menu includes a good selection of egg dishes like omelettes (egg white only is also available) as well as fried, poached or boiled, “egg in the hole” and an “American” breakfast. On the lighter side, they also serve the delicious locally made Annies’ yoghurts (try the ginger!) granola and a breakfast sandwich which I have never eaten slowly enough to manage to take a photo of! Expect to pay around 10,000 kyats per person with juice and a coffee ($7.50)            \n \n\n50th Street\n\n\nYangon stalwart 50th street has been around for donkeys years and since its recent takeover by Pun & projects, has gone strength to strength. Their all day breakfast includes one of the best Full English breakfasts I’ve ever eaten out of the UK, as well as favourites like Avo on Toast and a very enjoyable Shakshuka. They have also recently started a Sunday Roast brunch buffet with a small selection of appetisers and desserts coming from the kitchen with a beautiful porchetta and joint of beef on the buffet, accompanied by vegetable garnishes. Breakfast menu items include locally produced cured meats and fish, yoghurts, cheese and pastries. My favourite of the breakfast dishes includes the German style sausages with a freshly baked pretzel, as well as sous vide eggs & their spin on the Full English, using his locally produced bacon, sausages, crusty homemade sourdough toast & organic, free range eggs. Open Daily from 6am for breakfast and 12-3pm for Sunday Brunch\n\nYangon has very few places you can go to in order to enjoy a Western style breakfast although good brunch places are beginning to crop up all over the place. The Strand is without a doubt one of Yangons best hotels and rooms will set you back at least $300. It comes as a surprise therefore, that their very pleasant Strand Cafe offers such comparatively reasonably priced breakfast with A La Carte dishes starting at around $5 or their free flow breakfast is $35. As you might expect it all adds up; Eggs & Toast, Coffee and a Fresh Juice set me back around $15 on my last visit but it’s an enjoyable treat from time to time.\n\nBetter yet, they have recently started a Sunday Roast Brunch (currently on promotion for $42++ but the usual price is around $82++ ) with free flow champagne and imported wines. The buffet selection is comparatively small but faultless; appetisers include wonderfully fresh salads, burrata, foie gras terrine with homemade pain d’epices, oysters and crab, whilst the main courses are classic roast meats, from rib of beef to roast chicken, loin of pork and rack of lamb, with all the vegetable accompaniments you could imagine, as well as a couple of seafood options including an absolutely delicious lobster pie. The desserts appear on a central table, as if by magic, half way through lunch with a selection of assorted cakes and tarts (try the chocolate an coconut) as well as fresh fruit and homemade ice creams. Service is impeccable and the quality of the produce is outstanding. Breakfast from 6am-10:30am\n\nAnother of Yangon’s top hotels, non guests can visit (depending on occupancy so be sure to book ahead) to use their pretty garden swimming pool and enjoy their top quality buffet breakfast. At $70++ it is best left for very special occasions, but breakfast is delicious, you can use the swimming pool until 6pm, and a day by the pool here is one of the best ways to relax and rejuvenate after a busy week in Yangon.\nThey have a small, but well put together assortment of local and international dishes, including Mohinga and Oh No Khao Swe, eggs cooked to order, imported meats and cheese, local yoghurts, fresh fruit and one of the best selections of breads and pastries I have seen anywhere in town. Drinks include around 6 different types of fresh juice and champagne (naturally) as well as freshly brewed tea and coffee.
