| body | ### How I used Ruby and Serverless to build a Twitter bot within 30 minutes I used Zappa and Python previously to deploy and sell my API on RapidAPI. This made me think if I could do something with Serverless and Ruby so that I have hands-on experience with them. I was looking at some of the sample projects on the Serverless website when a Twitter bot written in node stood out. Taking inspiration from the same, I decided to create a [bot](https://twitter.com/HaikuDaily3) that would tweet haiku at a regular interval. Let’s get started ##### Step 1: Set up a Twitter application Head to https://developer.twitter.com/en so that you can create an account and get access to Twitter APIs. You want to choose bot and fill in the basic details Twitter does ask a lot of questions and as long as you fill in reasonable answers, you will get through. Once you have filled the form, create an app, and head over to the Keys and tokens section. From there grab your API Key, Secret, Access token, and secret You will need all 4 ##### Step 2: Set up your code You first need to install serverless and AWS. Assuming that you already have an AWS account, you will need to add the AWS key and secret to your local env. If you are interested in creating profiles, I have a small section about it in this post. You can get started with serverless using the commands below ``` npm install serverless -g serverless create -t aws-ruby -p twitter-haiku-bot ``` The AWS-ruby is a very basic template and you will need to modify the same a lot. ``` cd twitter-haiku-bot/ ``` To get started, let's create a Gemfile in the project with the following Gems ``` source 'https://rubygems.org' gem 'twitter' ``` After that, we can do a `bundle install` Now that we have the required gems, let's go ahead and create an environment config file for the dev called dev.env.json with the following details ``` { "TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY": "<your twitter api key>", "TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET": "<your twitter api secret>", "TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY": "<your twitter access token>", "TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET": "<your twitter access token secret>" } ``` From there, lets now move on to the code ``` require 'json' require 'twitter' def bot(event:, context:) begin client = Twitter::REST::Client.new do |config| config.consumer_key = ENV['TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY'] config.consumer_secret = ENV['TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET'] config.access_token = ENV['TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY'] config.access_token_secret = ENV['TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET'] end haiku = client.search('#haiku').first.text client.update(haiku) end ``` We now need to configure the serverless.yml file ``` service: twitter-haiku-bot provider: name: aws runtime: ruby2.5 custom: env: ${file(./${self:provider.stage}.env.json)} functions: bot: handler: handler.bot events: - schedule: rate(6 hours) environment: TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY} TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET} TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY} TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET} ``` The bot is now configured to run every 6 hours and post a Haiku on the account. ##### Step 3: Deploy So let's deploy `sls deploy` This takes time and once it is deployed you can invoke the function using `sls invoke -f bot` If everything runs fine, you should see a Haiku posted on your account like this ##### Troubleshooting If not, this is the most common error that you will see For someone just starting out, this bug is annoying and there is a lot of discussion in the forums about how to solve it. However, after much trial and error, this is the solution that worked for me, serverless-ruby-package `npm install --save-dev serverless-ruby-package` In the serverless.yml file added the following ``` plugins: - serverless-ruby-package package: include: - handler.rb - lib/** ``` Added the following lines on top of handler.rb file ``` # handler.rb load "vendor/bundle/bundler/setup.rb" $LOAD_PATH.unshift(File.expand_path("lib", __dir__)) ``` Post this I just deployed the serverless function again `sls deploy` Now I have a bot that runs every 6 hours and posts a haiku if it finds it suitable. You can find and follow my bot here: https://twitter.com/HaikuDaily3 So what bot are you creating today? Let me know in the comments and we can follow each other. |

Let’s get started\n\n##### Step 1: Set up a Twitter application\nHead to https://developer.twitter.com/en so that you can create an account and get access to Twitter APIs.\n\n\n\nYou want to choose bot and fill in the basic details\n\nTwitter does ask a lot of questions and as long as you fill in reasonable answers, you will get through. Once you have filled the form, create an app, and head over to the Keys and tokens section. From there grab your API Key, Secret, Access token, and secret\n\n\nYou will need all 4\n\n##### Step 2: Set up your code\nYou first need to install serverless and AWS. Assuming that you already have an AWS account, you will need to add the AWS key and secret to your local env. If you are interested in creating profiles, I have a small section about it in this post.\nYou can get started with serverless using the commands below\n\n```\nnpm install serverless -g\nserverless create -t aws-ruby -p twitter-haiku-bot\n```\n\nThe AWS-ruby is a very basic template and you will need to modify the same a lot.\n\n```\ncd twitter-haiku-bot/\n\n```\n\nTo get started, let's create a Gemfile in the project with the following Gems\n\n```\nsource 'https://rubygems.org'\ngem 'twitter'\n```\n\n\nAfter that, we can do a\n\n`bundle install`\n\nNow that we have the required gems, let's go ahead and create an environment config file for the dev called dev.env.json with the following details\n```\n{\n \"TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY\": \"<your twitter api key>\",\n \"TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET\": \"<your twitter api secret>\",\n \"TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY\": \"<your twitter access token>\",\n \"TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET\": \"<your twitter access token secret>\"\n}\n```\n\nFrom there, lets now move on to the code\n\n```\nrequire 'json'\nrequire 'twitter'\n\ndef bot(event:, context:)\n begin\n client = Twitter::REST::Client.new do |config|\n config.consumer_key = ENV['TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY']\n config.consumer_secret = ENV['TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET']\n config.access_token = ENV['TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY']\n config.access_token_secret = ENV['TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET']\n end\n haiku = client.search('#haiku').first.text\n client.update(haiku) \nend\n```\n\n\nWe now need to configure the serverless.yml file\n\n```\nservice: twitter-haiku-bot\nprovider:\n name: aws\n runtime: ruby2.5\n\ncustom:\n env: ${file(./${self:provider.stage}.env.json)}\n\nfunctions:\n bot:\n handler: handler.bot\n events:\n - schedule: rate(6 hours)\n environment:\n TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_CONSUMER_KEY}\n TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_CONSUMER_SECRET}\n TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY}\n TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET: ${self:custom.env.TWITTER_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET}\n```\n\nThe bot is now configured to run every 6 hours and post a Haiku on the account.\n\n##### Step 3: Deploy\n\nSo let's deploy\n`sls deploy`\n\nThis takes time and once it is deployed you can invoke the function using\n`sls invoke -f bot`\n\nIf everything runs fine, you should see a Haiku posted on your account like this\n\n\n\n\n\n##### Troubleshooting\n\nIf not, this is the most common error that you will see\n\n\n\n\n\nFor someone just starting out, this bug is annoying and there is a lot of discussion in the forums about how to solve it. However, after much trial and error, this is the solution that worked for me, serverless-ruby-package\n\n`npm install --save-dev serverless-ruby-package`\n\nIn the serverless.yml file added the following\n\n```\nplugins:\n - serverless-ruby-package\npackage:\n include:\n - handler.rb\n - lib/**\n```\n\n\nAdded the following lines on top of handler.rb file\n\n```\n# handler.rb\nload \"vendor/bundle/bundler/setup.rb\"\n$LOAD_PATH.unshift(File.expand_path(\"lib\", __dir__))\n```\n\nPost this I just deployed the serverless function again\n`sls deploy`\n\nNow I have a bot that runs every 6 hours and posts a haiku if it finds it suitable. You can find and follow my bot here:\nhttps://twitter.com/HaikuDaily3\n\n\n\n\n\nSo what bot are you creating today? Let me know in the comments and we can follow each other.",

| body | >[Last week](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@bansal/securing-your-bitcoin-part-1) we went into the details of securing your bitcoin through paper wallets, this week we discuss two-factor authentication and hardware wallets. You now know that your Bitcoin(Satoshis) is stored in a wallet (either in an exchange or as a paper wallet). What if someone gets hold of your wallet?
 Scary, right?
You know how to secure your bitcoin when they are in your custody. But what if you want to keep the bitcoins in an exchange. If you are on an exchange( think bank from our previous examples), what if someone else gets the authority to make transactions through your bank account(wallet)? How can you secure yourself against this eventuality? How can you make sure that all of your bitcoin transactions are valid? > This is where two-factor authentication can be a savior Think of it as an additional layer of security especially when you want to withdraw or transfer your bitcoins. There are multiple ways in which you can enable two factor authentication, depending on the exchange you use. Two of the most common ways are SMS Verification and Google Authenticator. In Zebpay, there is provision for SMS verification for all withdrawal transactions.
From the menu go to your settings tab.

Click on lock outgoing bitcoin transactions.
Now whenever someone (even you), tries to withdraw bitcoin from your address, they will need to enter an OTP that you receive on your phone.
It is a very simple but effective way to safeguard yourself from losing your bitcoins(satoshis).
### Now let’s come to the most effective way of securing your bitcoins(satoshis) i.e hardware wallets.
What do you mean by Hardware wallet for a virtual currency?
Remember what paper wallet is from our [last article](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@bansal/securing-your-bitcoin-part-1)? Can you recall the analogy of a paper wallet being similar to you not keeping your money in the bank(exchanges like Zebpay, Unocoin etc) rather keeping it at home?
This is how it looked,right?
When you secure your bitcoin(satoshis) through a paper wallet, you are still prone to the risk of losing all your holdings. Because all the information is on a paper, if someone runs away with it due to your negligence/ignorance at home, whatever you own is gone as your private key is printed on the paper wallet and it is everything someone needs to access your account! What if you can store your bitcoins(satoshis) offline in the same way as a paper wallet but with the added security that to access anything there is a layer of code(pin). This means even if someone runs away with it, they can’t do anything as the private key is prevented through a pin. **It is exactly what Hardware wallets are**. You store your bitcoins(satoshis) on a USB type hardware that you can connect to your system for transactions(sending/receiving). You don’t have the burden of thinking what if someone steals the hardware? > So if paper wallets is like keeping all your cash at home instead of a bank(exchanges like Zebpay, Unocoin etc), then hardware wallets are like keeping it at home in a vault.
.gif)
Even if someone runs away with it, they can’t open the vault( because they don’t have the pin) and consequently you are always safe.
.gif)
#### *Where do you get hardware wallets?* You have to buy them online. The three most popular and best Bitcoin hardware wallets are: * [Ledger Nano S](https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/wallets/ledger-nano-s/) * [KeepKey](https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/wallets/keepkey/) * [Trezor](https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/wallets/trezor/) Most of them will cost you around $100. If you have invested a significant amount into bitcoins, it is a good idea to have one.
This is what Trezor hardware wallet looks like
When you have a hardware wallet, all the setup happens offline( without being connected to the internet), so there is no possibility of you being attacked. > [Setting](https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/wallets/trezor/) up a hardware wallet is a straight forward job even if you are completely non-technical.
.gif) Congratulations, you now know more about securing your bitcoin than most out there :)
**If you want to know more, follow us as we come out with a series highlighting every aspect of investing in bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.** Drafted with love by [Nagesh Bansal](https://steemit.com/@bansal) and [Prashant Sharma (https://medium.com/@nitprashant) *PS: We are not investment advisors( whatever we detailed above is based on our experience), it is only you who will always be responsible for every investment you do.* |

| body | [Last week](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@bansal/investing-in-bitcoin-from-india) you hopefully got your first bitcoin(satoshis), it’s time to make sure no one runs away with it
In the internet world, you can come under attack at any time.
Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies( with its underlying technology, BlockChain) have the potential of disrupting a lot of industries( from payments to governments) and the major reason why a lot of [good minds are betting big on its future.](https://blog.angel.co/the-biggest-innovation-since-the-internet-fe2d823df141) > Every new technology that can upend industries and also has the use case as a currency will always attract bad actors. > People who want to make quick bucks in the hype cycle and vanish with other people’s money. Since you now own your first bitcoin( or satoshis), it is a good time to familiarize yourself with what are the different ways in which you can get scammed. **We are also outlining a step by step guide to secure yourself completely.** Let’s first get a sense of things that have been happening around us:
Phishing or getting scammed through real looking websites
> The website Hall had logged into was a scam website copying a legitimate one. It was only a week after the incident that Hall was able to get into contact with website support. Unfortunately, all of his bitcoins were gone. As a result, Hall lost AU$1,600 to the hackers- as reported in [cryptocoinnews](https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/australian-trader-loses-au1600-hackers-bitcoin-scam/) **What happened with Hall above is phishing or getting scammed through real looking websites. We will come to it later with regards to securing yourself against these.**
Exchange being hacked
> At the beginning of 2014, Mt Gox, a bitcoin exchange based in Japan, was the largest bitcoin exchange in the world, handling over 70% of all bitcoin transactions worldwide. By the end of February of that year, it was bankrupt. > The victim of a massive hack, Mt. Gox lost about 740,000 bitcoins (6% of all bitcoin in existence at the time), valued at the equivalent of €460 million at the time and over $3 billion at October 2017 prices. An additional $27 million was missing from the company’s bank accounts. Although 200,000 bitcoins were eventually recovered, the remaining 650,000 have never been recovered- from [blockonomi.com](https://blockonomi.com/mt-gox-hack/) **The above is an incident of an entire exchange being hacked. What are your options if that can happen? Seriously, the entire exchange gets hacked and you can lose your money? We will come to it later on how you can secure yourself against this.**
Phishing email
> We apologize to you for our inconveniences appeared in result of security incident. We intensively work with the law enforcement agencies to find out guilty people to make answer. In near future our website will be restarted. We will strive to keep you as informed as we can > > Unfortunately, our losses have a big scale. So, we cannot return you a total sum of lost money. > > But we propose a solution. > > We are planning to set electronic bonds which will let you claim for dividend payment from the common benefit of our company. You will receive the percentage of dividends, equal to the sum of lost funds. > > If you accept our offer, please, check your personal information carefully, fill in the Application for refund and send it back to us. > >Thank you for understanding and support. > > The Bitfinex Team **Above is an example of a phishing email that came to users from people posing to be Bitfinex.** Now you know what Phishing is, don’t you? B-)
Is it getting scary out here? Don’t worry we are here to make your life safe and easy.

How do you secure your bitcoin?
In this part, we discuss securing your bitcoin through paper wallet that **prevents you from the exchange getting hacked**. In the next parts, we will dig deeper into how to be careful against phishing. 1. **Paper Wallet**: Last time we explained that having a bitcoin address on Zebpay( or any other exchange) is like having your account with a bank. Let’s stretch that analogy to explain how paper wallets can be a savior when you have invested a handsome amount.
What the heck is a paper wallet?

What did you just say? Paper Wallet?
Let’s take the example of gold. In the world we live in right now, you can store your valuables like gold, jewelry, diamonds etc by having a locker at a bank or by keeping it at home( if you feel you are better at being vigilant). What are the different ways in which you can lose your gold if it is in bank’s locker? The bank gets robbed and thieves run away with your gold. It is the same as an exchange( Zebpay, Unocoin, Coinbase) getting hacked and you lose all your money( as in the example above about Mt. Gox). > The bank( exchange) is the place where your gold(bitcoins) resides.
How can you keep your gold(bitcoin) at home?
**It is exactly what paper wallets are meant to do**. Like we explained last time since you had a bitcoin address( at an exchange), you can send and receive bitcoins.
How do you convert it into a paper wallet?
When we store gold at home, we create a storage and move the gold from our bank(exchange) to our personal safe storage(paper wallet). Creating the storage is like creating a paper wallet with your private keys and then moving all your bitcoin investment there. You can go to bitaddress.org and generate paper wallet (online or offline). [Doing it offline( by downloading the HTML) adds one more layer of security.](https://coinsutra.com/make-bitcoin-paper-wallet-spend-bitcoins/)
Congratulations you have created your personal locker at home, that no one can hack into.
You still haven’t moved all your gold(bitcoin) from the bank’s locker(exchange) to your personal locker( paper wallet). Your paper wallet has an address as you can see above and last time you created an address for yourself on Zebpay. This means you can transfer all your investment from Zebpay to this address through the send button. Below is how that works:
In the sell section, press the send button

You will see send to the Bitcoin address. Press the button in the down right corner.

Your paper wallet has an address and QR code. See above. Scan the same or type in the address

After scanning you will see the same address as your paper wallet. It means you are ready to transfer gold from your bank locker(exchange) to your personal locker( paper wallet)

You can transfer all your bitcoins to your paper wallet address or a part of it.

You are now safer and smarter with your bitcoins.
> You are done. Congratulations! **No attack on an exchange can make you lose your investment.** Let’s end with a few notes: 1. When you store gold at home, you can continue to track its price in the market. The same goes with your bitcoins, you can keep yourself updated with how the market is moving on places like [coinmarketcap](http://coinmarketcap.com/). 2. When you need to sell your gold secured safely at home, you need to make sure that to get it out you never lose the key to the locker or someone else steals the key. The same goes with your paper wallet, you have your private keys on it(look at it once again) that is required every time you want to sell it or send it to someone 3. When you take out gold from your private locker, you sell it in the market. The same goes with your paper wallet. To sell or send you would need to go to an exchange( Zebpay, Unocoin etc) and for the same purpose you would need to have the private key( don’t lose or share it). **In the next part, we will talk about hardware wallets.** > Cheers to the fact that since you bought your first bitcoin(satoshis) last week, it has been in the upswing. **If you want to know more, follow me as we come out with a series highlighting every aspect of investing in bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.** Drafted with love by [Nagesh Bansal](https://steemit.com/@bansal) and Prashant Sharma *PS: We are not investment advisors( whatever we detailed above is based on our experience), it is only you who will always be responsible for every investment you do.* |

But, if you get started today you might have a similar story to share in a few years time.
As the saying goes: > “The best time to buy bitcoin was 8 years ago. The second best time is now” If you are completely new in the world of crypto, it is highly recommended to familiarize oneself with a top-level understanding before getting into trading.
Wikipedia defines bitcoin as: >Bitcoin is a worldwide cryptocurrency and digital payment system called the first decentralized >digital currency, as the system works without a central repository or single administrator. It was >invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and >released as open-source software in 2009.The system is peer-to-peer, and transactions take place ?>between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes >and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain.

The most important piece to know is bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency works without a middle man( regulatory body like your bank) being involved and every transaction is recorded and verified in a publicly distributed network( Blockchain)

Is it still hard to understand what the heck is a bitcoin and why people are going gaga? You can follow the below links to get an in depth understanding, in the most basic way possible: [Explain bitcoin like I am five](https://medium.freecodecamp.org/explain-bitcoin-like-im-five-73b4257ac833) [Explain bitcoin in layman terms](http://profit.ndtv.com/news/your-money/article-bitcoin-explained-in-laymans-terms-376029) Now that you are aware of what the hype is about when it comes to bitcoins and Cryptocurrencies, it may be a good time to get your hands dirty. As you read this, one bitcoin is roughly INR 5L( ~$7637) The first thing that comes to mind seeing this number for most people is, I can’t spend 5L(~$7637) to invest into something that may give me high returns or lose the entire investment.
.gif)

Did someone tell you that you can start by investing as low as INR 1000($ 15.27)?

.gif)
Most of the people get stuck when it comes to deciding which is the simplest way to get started.
Let’s make your life easy :)
When you are looking to buy bitcoins( Satoshi’s) someone should sell it. This means you need a trading platform. Everything that you might have heard when it comes to platforms( Coinbase, Unocoin, Zebpay etc) are basically trading platforms through which you can buy/sell bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. Second thing to know(again easy to understand) is just like you do your bank transactions wherein you need to have a bank account and other person’s account to do any transaction, similarly with Bitcoins the first thing you need to do anything is to have an account, which in the crypto world, is your wallet address. Below is how you can create your own Bitcoin wallet address( akin to a Bank account) Just like you can choose the organization you want to bank with( HDFC, Axis, ICICI etc) you have the choice to go to any platform and create an address( Unocoin, Zebpay etc). Let us run you through the process on Zebpay( Download the app from [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zebpay.Application&hl=en) or [App Store](https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/zebpay-bitcoin-wallet/id944854686?mt=8))
This is your first screen after going through the introduction. Put in your name, upload a good looking picture of yourself and save.

.png) After saving the above, you can go back and this is what you will see. This is a stage which is similar to bank taking in your application for account opening but the application has not processed yet. You know you will have an account, but can’t do much right now.

If you try pressing buy on the second screen, this is what you will see. To start trading Bitcoins you need to verify your account. It is a KYC( Know Your Customer) process that is mandatory to follow.

As a part of the verification process you have to verify your email, put in PAN, Bank and Aadhar details. Once you have completed the four step process, your account(address) will be ready in 24 hours.

Within 24 hours you are ready to make your first bitcoin transaction.
In the real world terms which we are familiar with, you can co relate it with having a Bank account( the details such as bank name, IFSC, Branch etc are with you) and you are ready to fund your account or do a transaction to other bank accounts. In this case: You will have an address in your profile section which is something like
This is your details( everything you will ever need) to buy or sell bitcoins. If someone wants to send you bitcoins, copy the address and send them. Just like bank transactions, once they have the address they can make a transaction to you.
Your address is ready, now let’s finally buy some bitcoins(satoshis)
You come back to your home dashboard. Can you see deposit and withdraw buttons?
Before pressing the buy button on top, your account needs to have sufficient balance. You can fund your account using the deposit button.

Let’s add INR 1000 or 10,000 and then buy bitcoins of the same value( Yes, you can do that)

https://steemitimages.com/DQmV46JoyWGVLPadTA75TH8zXMpJbwWSMYsB7cS5wXyuL7h/1-rzsPx6i669eh96wDFAer3w.png

You could very well do INR 1000 instead of 10,000 or any other amount.

Your account is loaded, you have an address and no one can stop you from owning bitcoins or satoshis from here on B-) Let’s press the buy bitcoin
https://steemitimages.com/DQmcV6MBBuPuoZxKnzkq1nyrgFNZWU3s4XNWjHsKX3xetxW/1-yx-IIg4ggNgB3bdsfQPoNA.png

You funded your account with whatever amount( INR 1000 or INR 10,000) you can buy bitcoins of the same value. As you can see if you are INR 10,000 worth then you will get 0.02037336 BTC or 2037336 Satoshi at the current value of INR 4,90,837

Congratulations you own your first bitcoins!

.gif) We are excited too B-)
Because you may not own 1 bitcoin( right away), in real terms you have 2037336 Satoshis :) Zebpay would also allow you to keep a track on how the market is moving with respect to bitcoin price so that you can buy more or sell accordingly.
[Want to know why the price fluctuates?](https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1834921-why-does-bitcoin-change-value-why-is-the-price-so-volatile-)
Let us end this with a few notes that are important to know especially since you now have a headstart in the world of cryptocurrencies: 1. We took bank’s example to help explain the process. The whole bitcoin/cryptocurrency is built on removing middlemen/organizations(bank) who control your current financial transactions. You will know more as you keep digging deeper. 2. You will be served better if you don’t treat this as get rich quick scheme. Rather if you treat this as an instrument that may take over the world some day( if everything goes well) and you want to have a piece of the pie when that happens 3. Finally, the best way to look into this is to think of having made an investment( and may be some more) into a new technology and a chance to know/understand more of how the system works. Beyond all the hype.
.gif) If this is the case, show some love and spread the word among your friends :)
If you want to know more, follow us as we come out with a series highlighting every aspect of investing in bitcoin and Cryptocurrency. Drafted with love by Nagesh Bansal and Prashant Sharma PS: We are not investment advisors( whatever we detailed above is based on our experience), it is only you who will always be responsible for every investment you do. We are also not associated with Zebpay in any way and used it as demonstration here as it is easy to understand. |

It was >invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and >released as open-source software in 2009.The system is peer-to-peer, and transactions take place ?>between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes >and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain.\n\n

The most important piece to know is bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency works without a middle man( regulatory body like your bank) being involved and every transaction is recorded and verified in a publicly distributed network( Blockchain)

\n\nIs it still hard to understand what the heck is a bitcoin and why people are going gaga?\n\nYou can follow the below links to get an in depth understanding, in the most basic way possible:\n\n[Explain bitcoin like I am five](https://medium.freecodecamp.org/explain-bitcoin-like-im-five-73b4257ac833)\n[Explain bitcoin in layman terms](http://profit.ndtv.com/news/your-money/article-bitcoin-explained-in-laymans-terms-376029)\n\nNow that you are aware of what the hype is about when it comes to bitcoins and Cryptocurrencies, it may be a good time to get your hands dirty.\n\nAs you read this, one bitcoin is roughly INR 5L( ~$7637)\n\nThe first thing that comes to mind seeing this number for most people is, I can’t spend 5L(~$7637) to invest into something that may give me high returns or lose the entire investment.\n\n
\n.gif)\n
\n\n
Did someone tell you that you can start by investing as low as INR 1000($ 15.27)?
\n\n
\n.gif)\n
\n\nMost of the people get stuck when it comes to deciding which is the simplest way to get started.\n\n
Let’s make your life easy :)
\n\nWhen you are looking to buy bitcoins( Satoshi’s) someone should sell it.\n\nThis means you need a trading platform.\n\nEverything that you might have heard when it comes to platforms( Coinbase, Unocoin, Zebpay etc) are basically trading platforms through which you can buy/sell bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies.\n\nSecond thing to know(again easy to understand) is just like you do your bank transactions wherein you need to have a bank account and other person’s account to do any transaction, similarly with Bitcoins the first thing you need to do anything is to have an account, which in the crypto world, is your wallet address.\n\nBelow is how you can create your own Bitcoin wallet address( akin to a Bank account)\n\nJust like you can choose the organization you want to bank with( HDFC, Axis, ICICI etc) you have the choice to go to any platform and create an address( Unocoin, Zebpay etc).\n\nLet us run you through the process on Zebpay( Download the app from [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zebpay.Application&hl=en) or [App Store](https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/zebpay-bitcoin-wallet/id944854686?mt=8))\n\n
\n\nThis is your first screen after going through the introduction. Put in your name, upload a good looking picture of yourself and save.\n
\n
\n
\n.png)\nAfter saving the above, you can go back and this is what you will see. This is a stage which is similar to bank taking in your application for account opening but the application has not processed yet. You know you will have an account, but can’t do much right now.\n
\n
\n\n
\n\nIf you try pressing buy on the second screen, this is what you will see. To start trading Bitcoins you need to verify your account. It is a KYC( Know Your Customer) process that is mandatory to follow.\n
\n
\n\n\n
\nAs a part of the verification process you have to verify your email, put in PAN, Bank and Aadhar details. Once you have completed the four step process, your account(address) will be ready in 24 hours.\n
\n\n
Within 24 hours you are ready to make your first bitcoin transaction.
\n\n\nIn the real world terms which we are familiar with, you can co relate it with having a Bank account( the details such as bank name, IFSC, Branch etc are with you) and you are ready to fund your account or do a transaction to other bank accounts.\n\nIn this case: You will have an address in your profile section which is something like\n\n
\n\nThis is your details( everything you will ever need) to buy or sell bitcoins. If someone wants to send you bitcoins, copy the address and send them. Just like bank transactions, once they have the address they can make a transaction to you.\n
\n\nYour address is ready, now let’s finally buy some bitcoins(satoshis)\n\n
\n\nYou come back to your home dashboard. Can you see deposit and withdraw buttons?\n
\n\nBefore pressing the buy button on top, your account needs to have sufficient balance.\n\nYou can fund your account using the deposit button.\n\n\n\n

Let’s add INR 1000 or 10,000 and then buy bitcoins of the same value( Yes, you can do that)

\n
https://steemitimages.com/DQmV46JoyWGVLPadTA75TH8zXMpJbwWSMYsB7cS5wXyuL7h/1-rzsPx6i669eh96wDFAer3w.png
\n\n
You could very well do INR 1000 instead of 10,000 or any other amount.
\n\n
\n\nYour account is loaded, you have an address and no one can stop you from owning bitcoins or satoshis from here on B-)\n\nLet’s press the buy bitcoin\n\n
\nhttps://steemitimages.com/DQmcV6MBBuPuoZxKnzkq1nyrgFNZWU3s4XNWjHsKX3xetxW/1-yx-IIg4ggNgB3bdsfQPoNA.png
\n\n
You funded your account with whatever amount( INR 1000 or INR 10,000) you can buy bitcoins of the same value. As you can see if you are INR 10,000 worth then you will get 0.02037336 BTC or 2037336 Satoshi at the current value of INR 4,90,837
\n\n

Congratulations you own your first bitcoins!

\n\n
.gif)\nWe are excited too B-)\n
\n\nBecause you may not own 1 bitcoin( right away), in real terms you have 2037336 Satoshis :)\n\nZebpay would also allow you to keep a track on how the market is moving with respect to bitcoin price so that you can buy more or sell accordingly.\n\n
[Want to know why the price fluctuates?](https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1834921-why-does-bitcoin-change-value-why-is-the-price-so-volatile-)
\n\nLet us end this with a few notes that are important to know especially since you now have a headstart in the world of cryptocurrencies:\n\n1. We took bank’s example to help explain the process. The whole bitcoin/cryptocurrency is built on removing middlemen/organizations(bank) who control your current financial transactions. You will know more as you keep digging deeper.\n\n2. You will be served better if you don’t treat this as get rich quick scheme. Rather if you treat this as an instrument that may take over the world some day( if everything goes well) and you want to have a piece of the pie when that happens\n\n3. Finally, the best way to look into this is to think of having made an investment( and may be some more) into a new technology and a chance to know/understand more of how the system works. Beyond all the hype.\n\n
.gif)\nIf this is the case, show some love and spread the word among your friends :)\n
\n\nIf you want to know more, follow us as we come out with a series highlighting every aspect of investing in bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.\n\nDrafted with love by Nagesh Bansal and Prashant Sharma\n\nPS: We are not investment advisors( whatever we detailed above is based on our experience), it is only you who will always be responsible for every investment you do. We are also not associated with Zebpay in any way and used it as demonstration here as it is easy to understand.",
