Laat hom dan sê:_\n\nO U Wat die Here van alle name is en die Maker van die hemele! Ek smeek U by hulle Wat die Daerade van U onsigbare Wese is, die Mees Verhewe, die Alglorieryke, om van me gebed 'n vuur te maak wat die sluiers sal verbrand wat my van U prag uitgesluit het, en 'n lig wat my na die oseaan van U Teenwoordigheid sal lei.\n\n_Laat hom dan sy hande in smeking na God ophef - geseën en verhewe is Hy - en sê:_\n\nO U die Begeerte van die wêreld en die Geliefde van die nasies! U sien dat ek my na U toe rig, en, bevry van alle gehegtheid aan iemand behalwe U, vashou aan U koord, deur wie se beweging die hele skepping omgeroer is. Ek is U dienaar, o my Here, en die seun van U dienaar. Aanskou my, gereed staande om U wil en U begeerte te doen, en niks anders wensende as U welbehae nie. Ek smeek U by die Oseaan van U genade en die Dagster van U guns om met U dienaar te doen na U wil en bahae. By u mag wat ver bo alle melding en lof is! Wat ook al deur U geopenbaar is, is die begeerte van my hart en die beminde van my siel. O God, my God! Kyk nie na my verwagtinge en my dade nie, nee kyk liewer na U wil wat die hemele en die aarde omvat het. By U Allergrootste Naam, o U die Here van alle nasies! Ek het net begeer wat U begeer het, en bemin net wat U bemin.\n\n_Laat hom dan kniel, sy voorhoof na die grond buig, en sê:_\n\nVerhewe is U bo die beskrywing van iemand anders as Uself, en die begrip van wat ook al behalwe U.\n\n_Laat hom dan opstaan en sê:_\n\nMaak my gebed, o my Here, 'n fontein van lewende waters waarvan ek so lank mag lewe as wat U oppermag bly bestaan, en melding van U mag maak in elke wêreld van U wêrelde.\n\n_Laat hom weer eens sy hande in smeking ophef, en sê:_\n\nO U in afsondering van Wie harte en siele gesmelt het, en by die vuur van Wie se liefde die hele wêreld ontbrand het! Ek smeek U by U Naam waardeur U die hele skepping onderwerp het, om nie dit van my weg te hou wat by U is nie, o U Wat oor alle mense regeer! U sien, o my Here, hierdie vreemdeling hom haas na sy verhewenste tuiste onder die grense van U genade; en hierdie oortreder soek die oseaan van U vergifnis; en hierdie nederige een die voorhof van U heerlikheid; en hierdie arme skepsel die daeraad van U rykdom. Aan U is die gesag om te gebied wat U ook al wil. Ek getuig dat U geroem behoort te word in U werke, en gehoorsaam te word in U opdrae, en onbevange te bly in U gebod.\n\nLaat hom dan sy hande ophef, en drie maal die Grootste Naam1 herhaal. Laat hom dan met hande rustende op die knieë neerbuig voor God - geseën en verhewe is Hy - en sê:\n\nU sien, o my God, hoe my gees binne my ledemate en liggaamsdele opgewek is, in my verlange om U te aanbid, en in sy hunkering om U te onthou en U te loof; hoe dit getuig van dit waarvan die Tong van U Gebod getuig het in die koninkryk van U woorde en in die hemel van U kennis. In hierdie staat, o my Here, smeek ek U graag om alles wat by U is, sodat ek my armoede kan toon, en U mildheid en U rykdom mag verheerlik, en my magteloosheid mag bekend maak, en U krag en U mag openbaar.\n\n_Laat hom dan opstaan en sy hande twee maal in smeking ophef, en sê:_\n\nDaar is geen God behalwe U nie, die Almagtige, die Almilddadige. Ek getuig dat U geheilig is bo alle eienskappe en heilig is bo alle name. Geen God is daar behalwe U nie, die Verhewenste, die Alglorieryke.\n\n_Laat hom dan gaan sit en sê:_\n\nEk getuig van dit waarvan alle geskape dinge getuig het, en die Menigte in die hoogte, en die huisgenote van die allerhoogste Paradys, en bo hulle die Tong van Grootheid Self vanaf die alglorieryke Horison, dat U God is, dat daar geen God behalwe U is nie, en dat Hy Wat geopenbaar is die Verborge Geheim is, die Kosbare Simbool, deur Wie die letters W en S (Wees) verenig en saamgebind is. Ek getuig dat dit Hy is Wie se naam deur die Pen van die Allerhoogste neergeskryf is, en Wat in die Boeke van God vermeld is, die Heer van die Troon in die hoogte en onder op aarde.\n\n_Laat hom dan regop staan en sê:_\n\nO Here van alle wesens en die Besitter van alle sigbare en onsigbare dinge! U gewaar my trane en die sugte wat ek slaak, en hoor my kreune, en my weeklag, en die gejammer van my hart. By u mag! My oortredings het my teruggehou om U te nader; en my sondes het my ver van die voorhof van U heiligheid gehou. U liefde, o my Here, het my verryk, en afskeiding van U het my vernietig, en verheid van U het my verteer. Then let him say:*\n\nO Thou Who art the Lord of all names and the Maker of the heavens! I beseech Thee by them Who are the Daysprings of Thine invisible Essence, the Most Exalted, the All-Glorious, to make of my prayer a fire that will burn away the veils which have shut me out from Thy beauty, and a light that will lead me unto the ocean of Thy Presence.\n\n*Let him then raise his hands in supplication toward God - blessed and exalted be He - and say:*\n\nO Thou the Desire of the world and the Beloved of the nations! Thou seest me turning toward Thee, and rid of all attachment to anyone save Thyself, and clinging to Thy cord, through whose movement the whole creation hath been stirred up. I am Thy servant, O my Lord, and the son of Thy servant. Behold me standing ready to do Thy will and Thy desire, and wishing naught else except Thy good pleasure. I have desired only what Thou didst desire, and love only what Thou dost love.\n\n*Let him then kneel, and bowing his forehead to the ground, let him say:*\n\nExalted art Thou above the description of anyone save Thyself, and the comprehension of aught else except Thee.\n\n*Let him then stand and say:*\n\nMake my prayer, O my Lord, a fountain of living waters whereby I may live as long as Thy sovereignty endureth, and may make mention of Thee in every world of Thy worlds.\n\n*Let him again raise his hands in supplication, and say:*\n\nO Thou in separation from Whom hearts and souls have melted, and by the fire of Whose love the whole world hath been set aflame! I implore Thee by Thy Name through which Thou hast subdued the whole creation, not to withhold from me that which is with Thee, O Thou Who rulest over all men! Thou seest, O my Lord, this stranger hastening to his most exalted home beneath the canopy of Thy majesty and within the precincts of Thy mercy; and this transgressor seeking the ocean of Thy forgiveness; and this lowly one the court of Thy glory; and this poor creature the orient of Thy wealth. Thine is the authority to command whatsoever Thou willest. I bear witness that Thou art to be praised in Thy doings, and to be obeyed in Thy behests, and to remain unconstrained in Thy bidding.\n\n*Let him then raise his hands, and repeat three times the Greatest Name.1 Let him then bend down with hands resting on the knees before God - blessed and exalted be He - and say:*\n\nThou seest, O my God, how my spirit hath been stirred up within my limbs and members, in its longing to worship Thee, and in its yearning to remember Thee and extol Thee; how it testifieth to that whereunto the Tongue of Thy Commandment hath testified in the kingdom of Thine utterance and the heaven of Thy knowledge. I love, in this state, O my Lord, to beg to Thee all that is with Thee, that I may demonstrate my poverty, and magnify Thy bounty and Thy riches, and may declare my powerlessness, and manifest Thy power and Thy might.\n\n*Let him then stand and raise his hands twice in supplication, and say:*\n\nThere is no God but Thee, the Almighty, the All-Bountiful. Thou dost perceive my tears and the sighs I utter, and hearest my groaning, and my wailing, and the lamentation of my heart. By Thy might! My trespasses have kept me back from drawing nigh unto Thee; and my sins have held me far from the court of Thy holiness. Thy love, O my Lord, hath enriched me, and separation from Thee hath destroyed me, and remoteness from Thee hath consumed me. I entreat Thee by Thy footsteps in this wilderness, and by the words \"Here am I.
