      "body": "# Backpack struggles #2 #\n*When you found the perfect [backpack](https://steemit.com/travel/@backpacker4ever/backpack-struggles-1), it is time for step 2, filling your backpack. On the internet you can find many lists, blogs and vlogs about what you should bring with you, but there are a lot of contradictions in them. In this post I'm gonna talk about my top 3 essentials for me and the rest of the items which were on my packing list. I hope this post gives you a helping hand.*\n\nhttps://youtu.be/XKBlkBAIqFw\n\nBefore you start packing you should have in mind where on earth you're going to. The items I brought with me are suited for a trip through Southeast Asia for at least a year. I think it doesn't really make a difference if you go for 1 month or 1 year, as long as the climate is similar.\n\n**Essentials**\n3 items I really can't 'live' without during these trip are:\n* Packing cubes: if you want some sort of organization during your travel, these are a must have. Not only is it easy to find your stuff, it's also getting compressed so you'll have more space\n* Powerbank: In some hostels there is a lack of outlets, which means you can't charge any of your eletronic devices. Besides that, if you're planning to make some hikes, you will probably need something to charge your phone somewhere halfway. I tried a solar powerbank first, but mine didn't really did his job\n* Flipflops: I think I am walking on my flipflops 95% of the time. Only when it's too cold or I'm going for a difficult hike I change to my normal shoes\n\nBelow a (long) list of the items which were on my packing list or which I suggest you to take with you. Of course it is depending on your own values what you prefer to take, but for me this list is complete.\n\n**Clothes**\nYou can't bring your whole wardrobe. You have the option to take some detergent with you (or buy it during your trip) or bring your clothes to a laundry service (approximately $1/kg). My advice is to take lightweight clothes, which dry quickly.\n* Windbreaker/raincoat (1)\n* Jumper (1)\n* Longsleeve shirt (1)\n* Vest (1)\n* T-shirts/tanktops (5)\n*(Dresses)*\n* Pants/legging (2)\n* Shorts (2)\n*(Skirts)*\n* Comfy outfit (1)\n* Swimwear (1/2)\n* Underwear\n* Socks (amount depends on how often you'll wear your shoes)\n* *Pyjama*\n* *Belt*\n* Flipflops\n* Sneakers and/or lightweight walking shoes\n\n**Electronics**\nI am not a digital nomad, but there are still some electronics I don't want to miss.\n* Phone (+ adapter)\n* Tablet (+ adapter)\n  * *Kindle* (some people like to read, others don't. I use my tablet to read and for me this works perfect)\n* Camera/GoPro (+ adapter and memory cards)\n* Powerbank\n* Earphones (you will consider these as your best friends every now and then)\n* *Speakers* (most of the time there will be at least one person with speakers, I didn't bring mine)\n* *Universal adapter* (so far I barely needed one because most outlets are universal nowadays. If not, you can buy cheap adapters on 'every' corner of the street)\n\n**Toiletry bag**\nI chose to take a few silicone bottles with me which I can refill during my trip. \n* Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss *(mouthwash)*\n* Hairbrush/comb *(hair ties, bobby pins)*\n* Shampoo, conditioner, showergel/soap\n* Deodorant\n* Body lotion, face lotion\n* Lipbalm with SPF\n* *Make-up, remover, mini mirror*\n* *Perfume*\n* *Feminine hygiene products*\n* Shaving kit\n* Facial tissues\n* *Glasses, contacts, etc*\n* *Jewellery*\n\n**Important documents**\nApart from taking these documents, make sure you have an accesible copy digital and/or on paper.\n* Passport\n* Driving license\n  * International driving license\n* Creditcard and bankcard\n* *Student card*\n* Cash (make sure you always have some $ with you. Visa on arrival is mostly the cheapest to pay in $ and you can always exchange $ to the local currency)\n* Medical passport\n* Health insurance card and documents\n* Emergency contacts and adresses (consider to put some 'ICE-contacts' in your phone in case something happens)\n* Passport photo's (you will need these when you apply for visa's)\n\n**Remaining items**\nItems which don't fit in one of the above categories, but you should definetly consider to bring them with you.\n* Sarong/scarf/bandana (I always have a sarong with me and I've used it on so many different occasions: temple visits, towel, scarf, on the beach, etc.)\n* Sunglasses\n* Cap/hat\n* Earplugs\n* *Travel pillow/eye mask*\n* Sleeping bag liner\n* Travel towel (small, quick dry, lightweight)\n* Hamam towel (consider a hamam towel instead of a normal/beach towel, it is lightweight and quick dry)\n* First Aid kit (you can find small travel first aid kits)\n  * Bandages\n  * Scissor\n  * Thermometer\n  * Painkillers\n  * Diarrhea/laxative medicines\n  * Motion sickness pills\n  * O.R.S.\n  * Tick pen\n* Nail clippers\n* Hand sanitizer\n* Insect repellent (you can also find good repellent in the stores in Asia)\n* Sunscreen and aftersun\n* *Mosquito net*\n* Travel journal\n* Travel guide, language guide (paper or digital version)\n* Stock of cards\n* Pen\n* Waterbottle\n* Moneybelt/neck wallet\n* Headlamp or mini flashlight\n* Pocket swiss army knife\n* *Carabiners* (can be easy to attach some stuff to your backpack or hold together)\n* TSA locks and cable lock\n* Duct tape\n* Packing cubes (I took mine from EagleCreek and I'm really satisfied with them.       "body": "# Backpack struggles #1\n*Before you can start a trip you need to find a backpack. If you're as picky as me that takes a lot of research and overthinking. I've watched too many YouTube videos, blogs, websites, etc. and everybody told something different. In this post I'm going to write about the backpack I chose and the things you should keep in mind when you're going to buy one.*\n\n**My backpack**\nAfter all my research and trying different backpacks in the store, I bought the ***Lowe Alpine Manaslu ND 55:65***. The backpack is specific for women, they also have a regular version, but this one fitted better to me.\n\n![IMG_20170927_173115.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVZartWe3pgfmQkqvowNmwMATzTD68SxokwXVL4FHPnno/IMG_20170927_173115.jpg)\n\nSome pros:\n* frond and top entry to load your stuff\n* adjustable back-length and padded back, shoulder straps and hipbelts\n* ventilated mesh back (ideal for warm climates)\n* extra pockets on top, front, sides and hipbelts\n\nSome cons:\n* quite heavy while it's empty (2,2 kg)\n* it is not the cheapest backpack\n* for the trip I am currently on it is actually too big (beginner 'mistake'?), since I always have free space\n\n**Buying a backpack**\n\n*Size*\nThe first thing you need to do is think of the size of the backpack. How big your backpack is depends, of course, on the stuff you want to bring with you (i.e. if you're going to Siberia or take a whole tent with you, you'll need a bigger backpack than when you just go to a warm country and sleep in hostels). Also keep in mind that your own height matters, compared to the size of the backpack.\n\n* 25L: ideal as a daypack and when you're doing hikes for a few days\n* 35L: if you bring only the essentials with you and go to a warm climate\n* 45L: if you go to a warm climate and want to pack comfortable, probably just small enough for carry-on luggage (do check the weight limitations, sometimes airlines allow only 7/10kg carry-on luggage)\n* 55L: in between, slightly too big for a warm climate (unless you want, or have, to take a lot of stuff with you), good for colder climates but probably just too small to take your camping gear with you\n* 65L: when you're planning to go countries with a cold climate and/or if you take camping gear with you\n\n*Fitting*\nYou'll find a lot of people who recommend a backpack and say that it fits perfectly. On the same review list you'll find people who say exact the opposite thing. Most important is to try different backpacks yourself, because nobody is the same. So go to a store or order a few online if there isn't a store close by or you don't find the time to go there. Make sure you try it with 10-15kg inside so you can see how it feels on your back.\nI went to the store with 3 backpacks in my head which I really liked. Once I was in the store and fitted them, they weren't comfortable. I tried a few more until I found one which was comfortable and completed the rest of my 'list'.\n\n*Price-quality*\nYou can find backpacks for as little as €40,-/$50,- and up to €245,-/$300,-. Keep in mind that, during your travels, you'll live out of your backpack. So you might want to spend a little bit of extra money on it, but spending a lot more than €200,- may be a bit too much. In busses and on planes they are not going to treat your backpack as a royal. And again, try different backpacks within your price range, the most expensive one doesn't have to be the best one.\n\n*Thank you for reading.       "body": "# Hi Steemit #\n\n\n*In this first post we will shortly introduce ourselves and provide some info about the topics we will probably gonna post about.*\n\n**Introduction**\nBernice: As young as I was still in the womb of my mother, my parents took me with them on their travels. I guess that's the way I got addicted with traveling. Since I live in The Netherlands I've seen a lot of European countries, but also made trips to other continents. All the trips so far I made with company of family or friends. This time I wanted to challenge myself and travel on my own. It took me a while to save enough money for the the trip I'm currently making, but hey, here I am, sitting on the other side of the world and enjoying every second of it!\n\nAmine: I have always had troubles with staying in the same place for a long time. Although I live in a beautiful city in France, I am trying to find and discover new places. I started safely in France, after that Europe and 8 months ago it was time for something tremendous. I took the opportunity to study abroad (in Thailand) and fulfill my dream even though I was overthinking about what could all go wrong.
