      "body": "Many might wonder what is there we are yet to see in the world of cars giving the rate of technological advance and development but I will rather shock my audience by saying there are a lot of things coming that we have not even dream about or thought of. This sometimes gets me thinking if artificial intelligence will make humans lazier or more productive but I will leave that for another day.\n\nWell I don’t need to waste much of time, let us meet the one of a kind car that I will call car of the future but is just around the corner with us.\n\nMERCEDES BENZ F015\nYes, this is a popular type brand of car but you should wait until you hear about the special Mercedes Benz F015 that is working toward changing our perception towards cars, according to the words of the chairman of the board of management of daimler AG and head of Mercedes Benz cars.\n\n“The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space”\n\nMeaning your car will soon offer you more than it normally offer before, giving rise to a new breed of cars.\n\nI will be talking about some special features that make this car unique and this is one of the reasons I prefer to refer to it as the car of the future even if the future is almost here with us.\n\nLet look at some of these features:\n\nPRIVATE RETREAT\nMercedes Benz F015 is designed like a home away from home; it is a four seater car in which the seats can be rotated to face each other instead of the traditional and static chairs that face the back of another. There is enough room for legs and instead of the normal metal and rug floor, the interior is made of light colored open-pore walnut wood giving you a feel of being in a cozy lounge. Wherever you are in your Mercedes Benz F015, you don’t have to worry about being far from the car control, just stretch your hands and you will be issuing commands to your car within seconds. This Is one of the features I really love.\n\nAUTONOMOUS VEHICLE\nThis car of the future is a self-driving car, as we all know; almost all car manufacturers are now either testing or researching their own type of autonomous car. This is one of the reasons I said earlier on that the car of the future is already here even though this particular car is yet to be in the market.\n\nYes, the Mercedes Benz F015 is an autonomous vehicle, meaning you can relax and issue a commands to the car to drive you to a particular destination and you will get there without touching your steering wheel.\n\nThis is where all add up as to why the car is made with comfortability in mind, meaning you can relax probably tired from work while the car drive you home, this doesn’t mean that you can’t handle the wheel if you feel like it.\n\nAnother is that the Mercedes Benz F015 can be used to hold meeting on the way to a conference or any official engagement, provided the meeting doesn’t exceed four individuals, maybe more space can be created if the buyer demand for more. This makes me to remember that Volkswagen is planning to release a similar product into the market very soon under the name “Volkswagen I.D Buzz”\n\n \n\nPLUG-IN-HYBRID\nThe Zero emission of gases into the atmosphere is going to reduce soon. The car of the future will be using the F-cell to generate power to drive the car but being a plug in hybrid means you can charge the F-cell using the charger just like the normal way you charge your phone battery when down.       "body": "Liquid crystal display, LCD for short is one the revolutionary and innovation display that replace the cathode ray tube (CRT) in the electronic industry. Although LCD are no longer the breaking edge in technology these days, since they are getting replaced by something more recent and more advance, but that doesn’t mean that research had stop on them. In fact most of electronics are still using LCD technology except the recent ones but before we look at the differences between LCD and OLED, which I will tag the old and the new in that order, let us shed a brief light on LCD.\n\n![LCD technology.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbkpeYpbmWrxVFkL8ZEzK3iunimtSCZLAZfPRayaY3BES/LCD%20technology.jpg)\nLCD Tv | Picture credit: pixabay\n\nLIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY (LCD)\nLiquid crystal display can be found in virtually any electronics you can mention, from your wristwatches to your computers (your laptops and the recent monitors of desktop) even most of your televisions make use of this technology, LCD can almost stand on par with OLED and some other newer technology if not for some short comings which we will be looking at in differences between LCD and OLED, but these short comings are also being researched on to make them more perfect.\n\nSome might be asking what liquid is used in LCD since the name implies that a liquid is use and how would a crystal be a liquid in the first place, since a crystal is meant to be solid. Just relax and let use look at it one after the other.\n\nThe liquid used in LCDs are known as nematic liquid, this is a liquid that behave like a liquid and at the same time, a solid (crystal). What really happens is that the molecules of a liquid is not orderly arranged like a solid that are arranged in crystal lattice, so in other words, nematic liquids are liquids that have their molecules arranged as in crystals.\n\nA good illustration of such a liquid is the protein secreted by spiders to make their web. If you look at one very closely when at work spinning his web, you will notice that what come out of the spinneret is a liquid and the spider will just draw the liquid and instantly you will see a thread in seconds.\n\nWhat happens is that the crystals or solid is already present in the protein secreted by the spider. So we can also call a nematic liquid a composite substance (i.e. a substance that contains more than one compound). Other nematic liquids include: Proteins, cell membrane, soap solution, DNA, polypeptides, Vanadium (V) oxide, e.t.c. \nSo having known the major component of the LCD display, then how does it work?\n\nHOW LCD PRODUCES IMAGE\nNematic liquids crystals molecules are shape like rod or tubes just like your vantablack, which is not a conventional paint. These rods are set into alignment by a director\n\nLCDs produces images or pixels by selectively filtering light produced by the backlight, this is top on the list of differences between LCD and OLED. Remember that OLEDs emit their own light just like your LEDs.\n\nThe backlight that is filtered is produced by cold cathode fluorescent lamps which are LEDs that can produce white light or light of other colours .\n\nThe LEDs are fitted with shutters which have colour filters to filter out any other colour from the backlight apart from red, green and blue (RGB).\n\nThese shutters are what produces the sub-pixel which when combined produces pixels, which also combine to produce the image seen on the screen of your TV or your phone as the case may be. So after knowing how the LCD works, let’s compare LCD and OLED to know the differences between LCD and OLED.\n\nDIFFERENCES BETWEEN LCD AND OLED\nJust as I mentioned earlier on, the major difference between LCD and OLED is in the mode of picture generation which will lead us to some other difference or you might call  short comings on behalf of LCD.\n\nLCDs RELY ON BACKLIGHT TO GENERATE ITS IMAGE\nThis difference is just that LCDs can only generate image with the help of its backlight whereas OLED doesn’t need that because it can generate its own light.\n \n\nHIGHER POWER COMSUPTION\nLCDs consume more power than OLED or other newer technology, because the backlight must be very powerful since only a portion of it is needed to produce the pixel, thereby creating an unnecessary waste.\n \n\nPICTURE QUALITY\nThe overall picture quality of LCDs are poor compared to OLED because OLED can achieve a high contrast ratio due to the fact that they don’t use backlight to generate their image.\n \n\nWEIGHT\nThe weight of LCDs are generally more than that of OLEDs, since more components means more weight and also OLEDs are slimmer than LCDs.\nThis will be all for now, I will be bringing more interesting and educative articles to you soon, till then know how your gadgets works so that whenever you are operating then, you can have an idea of what goes on behind the screen.",

      "body": "I have always been a fan of television right from time and I know that many can’t do without one for even a day, I could remember back then our cathode ray tube black and white television, which was our very dear friend whenever we return form school, times have really changed even in the world of televisions, that’s more the reason am shedding light on the history of OLED and workings.\n\n![Flat screen TV.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbVwGmh87i2FAGkNGa7MyVnPQbyTQawBCEmq9PABM3z2a/Flat%20screen%20TV.jpg)\n\nFor those who are still wondering “what is OLED”, just relax and let me give a brief description of what it is and how it is working, most televisions in the home nowadays do not have protruding back anymore, also the heat generated when most of these televisions are working are very little compared to what we were used to when growing up.\n\nAll these were made possible due to technological advancement which replaces the cathode tube with something more compact and lighter. Television screen are generally referred to as either LCD (Liquid crystal display) or OLED (organic light emitting diode display). One of such is the newest Samsung A8F 4K HDR OLED TV. But before we delve fully into history of OLED and workings, let us know everything that is there to know about OLED.\n\nORGANIC LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (OLED)\nYes the full meaning of OLED is organic light emitting diode, I will make it very simple for those whose are not into technology to know what this is all about. Light emitting diode (LED) is a semi-conductor that emits light when a voltage is passed across it.\n\n![green LED.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRtS5MXy5aMSiLn6dJZSqYce5kTFsLZ5GDcRMjv69bzyH/green%20LED.png)\n\n                      Metallic green light LED | Picture credit: Pixabay\n\nJust like your bulb at home, that contains the filament, which is a very tiny wire, what happens is that whenever you insert the bulb into the socket (lamp holder), and switch it on, a voltage will pass through the filament making it hot in no time and thereby making the filament to glow, this is quite similar to what is happening in the OLED, only that instead of any metal or conductor, the substance is organic in nature sometime acridine orange or some other polymers.\n\nAcridine orange is a versatile flouresence dye gotten from dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and N, N- diaminobenzene, sorry for taking you into the world of science but it is inevitable because science is the father of technology. So basically, acridine orange looks like powder orange in physical appearance and can be used to cause the DNA of bacteria to glow or give out light.\n\nOLED screen can be found in your television, PDAs, computers, phones and a lot of other electronics, so when next you purchase a TV or phone and the manufacturer specified that the screen is OLED, you should know that whenever is illuminating your screen is organic. Maybe we should all go back to the green.\n\nOLED doesn’t need back light to work because it can give out its own light and can show deeper colours, this is one of the reasons they produce sharper image than LCD. They can also achieve higher contrast ratio than LCD televisions or electronics.\n\nBRIEF HISTORY OF OLED\nElectro-luminescence in organic compounds was first observed in the early 1950s by Andre Bernanos and his co-workers at Nancy Universite in France, when they apply high alternating voltage in air to acridine orange\nSimilar works were performed by Martin Pope and some co-workers in New York on anthrancene, leading to the proposal of the entire requirements needed for electro-luminescence to occur in organic compound.\n\nThe first practical OLED device was built in 1987 by America physical chemist Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak\nJust not to bore you with the developmental process of OLED, so that we can continue with history of OLED and workings, I will pause here but if you are eager to know more about this topic, you can check here.\n\nMODE OF OPERATION OF OLED\nBefore going into the mode of operation of OLED, I will like to mention that OLED is considered as organic semi-conductor, so what applies to the normal semi-conductor can be applied to it too.\n\nThe cathode of OLED is also known as lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) while its anode is also known as highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO).\n\nWhen you switch on your OLED screen phone or Television, charge flow from the cathode to the anode thereby taking electrons from the HOMO and injecting them into the LUMO. The LUMO contains holes, so the electrostatic force will therefore force the electrons and holes together to form excitons.\n\nThese excitons later decay and liberate the energy they had absorbed in forming the excitons, this release of energy is what is used to display the image on your screen or any other device that uses such a screen.\n\nSo when next you switch on your OLED television or phone, just know that, in that matter of fraction of seconds before the screen comes on, this has happened behind the screen.\n\nDEVICES THAT CURRENTLY USE OLED SCREEN TECHNOLOGY\n• Galaxy S7 edge\n• Blackberry 10\n• Zune HD\n• Sony Walkman X series\n• Zen V\n\nSome autonomous vehicles also use this in their head up display.The list is endless, but now you know your OLED device better and won’t be surprise if ask “how does your device function” .So this will be all for now on history of OLED and workings, till when we meet again use your device according to the manufacturer specifications.",

      "body": "Cars have evolved; I could still remember watching documentaries about early cars and it looks terrible to compare them with what we have now, this doesn’t mean that they are without value because if you have a vintage car, I can’t imagine how much it will fetch you because they are very priceless provided they are in good condition, although that’s not what we are looking at today because times have changed, more the reason I will be discussing types of cars and engines.\n\nBrands of cars are so many today, the BMW , Volkswagen, Honda, Peugeot, Mercedes not to mention the high performance and exotic brands of cars. Probably tomorrow, we might have another brand of car.\n\nCars are very essential to our lives; I doubt the average human being can do without one, even if you don’t own it. Your commuting to your place of work depends on it; your commuting to any place of leisure depends on it, so the more reason you should know types of cars and engines that run them, especially the more recent ones.\n\nIn this article, I will be discussing and showing the differences between just two of such; your conventional car (internal combustion engines that uses diesel or petrol) and electric vehicles (EV).\n\nSome might be thinking that what is there to know about these cars, well sit tight and read to the read, there are a lot yet to know especially about electric vehicles.\n\nCONVECTIONAL CARS\nThis is my terms for referring to our normal everyday cars that burns fossil fuels to generate their traction. Why I do like to refer to them as conventional engines is simply due to the fact that torque had been mostly generated right from time by burning fossil fuel like your wood and coal, until recent developments change that.\n\nPlease pardon me on not dwelling much on the internal combustion engines for now, I just don’t want to make this post unnecessarily long.\nNow let get to the types of cars and engines since the conventional engines are fading away.\n\nELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV)\nLatest inventions and the call to reduce the emission of waste gas into the atmosphere has made the shift from the normal conventional cars and engines to electric cars and engines. Some countries have even set a date for the complete change over to complete electric vehicle.\n\nThis shows that very soon, petrol engine cars or diesel engine cars might even be illegal to ply their roads, maybe we should all be planning on getting our own now before we start receiving heavy fines for polluting the atmosphere. But before you get yours it might be very good idea to know a great deal about this vehicles that will soon take over from their forerunners.\n\nHYBRID CARS\nJust as we all know that hybrid means a cross bred between two different parent of different species, hybrid cars are a cross between the old and the new. i.e the the internal combustion engine and the electric car.\nWhat happens is that , the internal combustion engine still remains while an additional battery that can drive the drive train was incorporated.\n\nSo when you are burning the fossil fuel in your gas tank, the battery is charging and probably when you run out of fuel, you can just switch over to pure electric drive or you can drive in the city with pure electric to reduce the discomfort your exhaust will cost the citizens and when you get to the highway, you can then switch over to your gasoline tank.\n\nSome this cars also comes with charging port for you to recharge your battery at home, these are know as plug in hybrid. The old conventional engine still stays in this type of car.\n\nExamples of hybrid cars are:\n• Volkswagen Passat GTE\n• Volvo XC90 T8\n• BYD Tang\n\nHYDROGEN CARS\nThis is an electric car that wants to copy the conventional car by burning fuel in this case hydrogen, only that it is not burning it in an internal combustion engine, rather it is combining the hydrogen with free oxygen to form water as the by product with the release of electric charges which then charge the battery.\n\nThis type of car is much more lighter than the normal internal combustion engine cars due to the absence of the engine block but have a major drawback of availability of fuel( hydrogen) and the high flammability of it.\n\nHydrogen cars don’t comes in as plug-in-hybrid due to the flammability of the fuel used. This is one of the reasons why there is a call for more charging stations to be created so that one won’t be unnecessarily be looking for one before one can charge.\n\nThe Volkswagen I.D cross and Volkswagen I.D buzz will be pure electric and will be able to cover 270 miles before it will need another recharge. I know there will still be a lot of improvement before they are released. But for now this is as far as types of cars and engines goes.",

But before we continue let us look at a brief definition of automation\n\nAutomation according to techopedia is the creation of technology and its application in order to control and monitor the production and delivery of various goods and services.\n\nThis definition kind of nailed it for me, but to break it down further, automation can simply be defined as the control of processes normally done by humans by machines. This will blend in the picture embellished in the mind of most people that when you talk about automation, the next thing is a car assembly line with various robotic arms some welding,  while some spraying e.t.c.\n\nLittle wonder, the car industry started with manual gear, but due to advancement ended up with what they have started in their factory a long time ago, automatic gear system. They’ve just automate your car like their factory and it is even getting more complex now with self-driving cars, although these cars are controlled with artificial intelligence and at the same time are partly automatic. This makes me wonder whether they are also thinking of automation versus artificial intelligence just as I am thinking right now.\n\nBut before we really delve into automation versus artificial intelligence to know the difference or even know which is better out of the two, I will like to talk about automation briefly and what goes behind the scene but will leave artificial intelligence out because I have already discussed on it previously but if you will like to know about it, you can just click here.\n\nAUTOMATION\nAutomation is simply making a process that would have otherwise be manual automatic. Most these processes are repetitive. Let  break it down a bit, you want to drive to work, but before you will get there you have to drive 1 km which will bring in  contact with 3 intersections, meaning you will to slow down or even stop along the journey, all these will require you to change the gears so many times( repetitive action).\n\nBut this type of action is gradually fading away with the introduction of the automatic gear(automation) change in cars, all you just have to do is drive or slow down when you are required to and the car automatically change the gear for you without your notice.\n\nOr you take your ordinary pressing iron and set it to a pre-determined temperature and plug, you don’t have to worry about getting your shirt burnt while ironing provided that is the right temperature for that particular material. The iron will automatically switch on and off to regulate the temperature for you.\n\nAutomatic systems comes in different forms, they can be mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic or computerized in nature but will basically use the same mode of operation.\n\nMODE OF OPERATION\nAutomatic systems works on a set of pre-defined rules, i.e. if condition A is satisfied, process B should proceed, that’s why they use control systems in their mode of operation.\n\nA control system is basically components that have specific pre-determined conditions for a particular system and monitors that system for any change in the pre-determined conditions set, so that if there is any error, a correction can quickly be made.\n\nThe control system in your iron is mechanical in nature, and had been set for various ironing temperature which you can select by turning the knob. When the pressing iron is switched on, the thermostat(i.e the mechanical control system) record your pre-determined temperature and monitor the temperature of the environment ,once the temperature of the environment gets to your pre-determined temperature, it trigger off; the correction(to decrease the temperature) by switching off the system.\n\nAfter switching it off, it will continue to monitor the system and when the temperature drops, it will trigger the correction (to increase the temperature) and thereby switch on the pressing iron. Artificial intelligence is a system that try to behave just a normal human would in any condition and not a set of pre-determined condition.\n\nSo going with these, we can see that automation and artificial intelligence are not the same, but they are similar and I would like to say that automation gives birth to artificial intelligence;this is just my opinion.\n\nBecause looking at it being used in autonomous vehicles, it makes the cars more automatic than they were before and making the human just a passenger in his own car, that why I said it was kind of weird but good.\n\nSo finally to put a nail on the coffin of automation versus artificial intelligence, the similarity between the two is that they both make any process they are employed to do automatic and the “but” that makes the difference between them is that they don’t run on the same semantics.",

Artificial intelligence has everything to do with your job or career but does it threaten your job or make your job easier? Well let’s talk about artificial intelligence and your job.\n\nWell the world is moving faster than it had been before and if you are not carried along, you will be definitely left behind. Artificial intelligence isn’t new if you follow its development but has never been integrated with our everyday lives until recently. In the next two decades, artificial intelligence will take over a lot of activities we manually carry out even  down to mere cooking.\n\nThere was a time when we were discussing about artificial intelligence in the workplace and after a brief explanation; someone mentioned that artificial intelligence is just like automation. Many might think like this also but the truth is they are similar but yet different. Jarvis is now a home artificial intelligence, use by Mark Zuckerberg; the CEO of Facebook.\nWhat does it do and how does it relate to artificial intelligence and your job?\n\nJarvis control the home of the Zuckerberg , like opening of the door, playing of music, teaching mark Zuckerberg mandarin, and a host of other mundane tasks that are normally done by an housemaid or others and  lest I forget taking care of the infant Zuckerberg. This is where it gets a bit weird because I think that should be the job of a nanny.\n\nWell Jarvis is already doing that now as we speak; Jarvis comes with both speech and facial recognition and therefore identify the members of the family either by names or facially. Alexa can be said to be an intelligent personal assistant but the truth is, it is not different from Jarvis or artificial intelligence which is the bases on which both work. It can do almost everything that Jarvis can do. Take for example providing and reminding you of your schedules, can also be operated using voice command.\n\nJust not to bother you much, Alexa is not much different from Jarvis, only that since every product of the same make say a television from Samsung and another from Sony will only look different but will perform the same task.\n\nOthers include artificial intelligence include:\n• Siri\n• Cortana\n• Samantha\n• Cleverbot.\n\nBut before we move on, and talk about artificial intelligence and your job, let me mention another artificial intelligence use here, it is no other but the autonomous cars.\n\nVolkswagen is proposing to release into the market a set of autonomous and electric vehicles Volkswagen ID cross and Volkswagen ID buzz both set to hit the market between 2020 and 2022.\n\nBoth vehicles have both facial and voice recognition and can be controlled either with the voice or facial pattern. It can be set on autopilot with voice command while the steering wheel recedes into the dashboard. You can then do whatever you like thereafter but this should be the work of the chauffeur. Well that the work of artificial intelligence now.\n\nSo can artificial intelligence take your job?\nThe answer is NO,\n\nReasons artificial intelligence cannot take your job.\nArtificial intelligence cannot take your job, it can either make your work easier or reduce the number of task you will have to perform manually or even save you money. So  let look at some reasons why artificial intelligence cannot take your job.\n\nOnly manual jobs:\nDefinitely some jobs will be affected but if you follow my discourse you will find out that most jobs that will be taken over by artificial intelligence will be manual jobs or jobs that can easily be learned. That doesn’t mean that later in the future they won’t be able to do more.\n\nHuman Feel:\nAlso there is what we call the “human feel” artificial intelligence may not be able to read the mood of an individual perfectly like another human can although they are working on making artificial intelligence emotional intelligent. But before then some humans might still prefer humans to do their jobs than artificial intelligence.\n\nThey are machines and codes:\nMachines need humans to produce them, while codes needs humans to write them, artificial intelligence cannot do that for now. So meaning that there will still be need for people to do all these things. When they encounter glitch, a human is needed to set things right again. So they have this limitation, which may be removed in the future but not now.\n\nWell, your job isn’t threatened by artificial intelligence, if you ace up your game by getting more relevant and indispensable training in your field i doubt any machine will be able to replace you.\n\nSo don’t be afraid whenever you see artificial intelligence at home, they are only working due to the input from specialist in their field like you. Without a specialist in a particular field like you to do the initial programming, the artificial intelligence won’t even exist in the first place.",

Being the people’s car, I will say they are living up to their name. Economy rules the market of the middle class.\n\nThe Volkswagen I.D buzz has space for eight people and will pack a 369hp engine which can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just under 5seconds. It can travel 270 miles just on it electric power, which will be powered by 110kwh battery which is located under the seats.\n\nDon’t worry about the charging of the battery because it can be boosted from 0% to about 80% in just 30minutes. The engine is located at the rear of the car to give the feel of the good old days.\n\nThe Volkswagen I.D Buzz can be used a family bus, provided you have a large family or perhaps as a mobile office because the chairs inside can be swivel to face each other as if in a meeting while the vehicle itself can be set on autopilot; Needless to say this a an autonomous vehicle or a self-driving car depending on your preference and mood. One thing about this is that it can also be used as security control against theft.\n\nOne thing I like about this car is that once the autopilot is engaged, the steering wheel will recede under the dashboard giving you more room and won’t be out again until when it is disengaged.\n\nOnly that we will have to wait a few more years before we can enjoy this product as production is not to enter the market until 2025.\nSo till then, let’s keep our fingers crossed.",

So when you see a robot, the robot isn’t the artificial intelligence but the algorithm that makes it works and behaves the way it is behaving.\n\nArtificial intelligence is what is used in designing the computer chess game, if you have ever play chess with your system, you will find out it will in most times block your next best move in advance, well what it is doing is that the moment you make a move, it will predict your next best move thereby making you to make a fatal mistake by exposing your flank.\n\nSome will say it had been programmed with the best moves but I could remember playing some myself and having to take the first move meaning the algorithm has to watch my move and produce the best move to counter my move. At best, I and the algorithm drew in the game. This is just one of the many algorithms called artificial intelligence.\n\nBut let go to the self-driving cars and their technology\n\nSELF DRIVING CARS (AUTONOMOUS CARS) AND THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND IT\nSelf-driving cars also known as autonomous cars are that can take control of the cars and drive just as a normal human would. Which means you can just get into the car and tell it, if it is a voice command or type in your destination and it will get you there while you are probably have a good sleep.\n\nThis can be very possible ( why am using this language is that most of the self-driving cars are still undergoing safety test and are not yet fully incorporated into our daily lives).
