We feel so elated this time and wish the situation remains the same or even go from better to best of the situations. We never wished to experience the bad side of life.\n\nOne thing we must be aware is that, nothing remains permanent, either good or bad. There must be a time life give us what we expect or planned. There is also a time life will confront us with various challenges. But in the face of the difficult moment, how we survived from it, is an interesting experience we share that could help others overcome their difficult moments.\n\nFor me, I have had a quite difficult moment in my life. But the good news is that, I survived it!\n\n**It was a difficult moment in my life to stay six months without receiving my Salary**\n![20260519_114726_0000.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfCgVwMeiSaSUKoipz1yqzGwQzVdAZfQoAFFRb9opfVwe/20260519_114726_0000.png)\n\nIt is often said that a worker deserves his pay. This statement covers both the male and female working class persons. It is painful for a worker after putting so much efforts in their various schedules, could not receive their pay as, and when due; not to talk at the end the month.\n\nI remember passing through this difficult moment of not receiving my monthly pay for half a year in the year 2023. It was such an ugly experience during that period workers in my state including me, were owed arrears of salaries when the new government came onboard.\n\nDuring that period, the workers were subjected to rigorous verification exercise which lasted over a year. It was a digital capturing of workers and their credentials. The procedure used to conduct the verification exercise by the government through the appointed agent, were so disatisfactory. There were not enough equipment and personnel to handle the verification of several thousands of workers in the state. To make matters worse, the verification exercise was handled by just one company.\n\nThe verification exercise was such that no one would get payed unless he or she is successfully verified. I was running to -and-fro from my house to umuahia, and from my house to my main workplace to get myself and my credentials verified. \n\nIt was not an easy one for me as I had to borrow money for transport to the verification ground. It was both physical and online verification. The situation was that, if you are not successfully verified, you would be shown the way out or be sacked. With this, I was almost giving up! I started asking myself how would someone who has been in the work for a decade, would suddenly lose my job because of the way and manner the verification exercise was done. I was not verified for 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 months, and without receiving my Salary during these periods. Hmm, I just concluded that I had lost my job!\n\n**How I survived the six months without receiving my Salary and what I did**\n\n![IMG_20260517_130113_581.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmf7oKJdmr8TPbd9xy9ikqa6xZjMQn6gY5Kj7gDXQKnXo5/IMG_20260517_130113_581.jpg)\n\nIt was a very tough time for me during the protracted verification exercise without receiving my salary. Back then, I was into poultry farming rearing broiler chicken though it was small scale. I was rearing about 150 broilers which would be sold. I was managing the farm successfully and using it to support myself. \n\n At a particular time, I ran in short of money to keep the farm business going because, I was financing the farm business from my salary. Since I was not receiving my Salary, this compounded my difficult moments. \n\nAt about the 6th month of being owed, I had to borrow money from a friend to buy feeds for my poultry birds. I promised to pay him back when I sell the birds. The birds were just at their maturity stage, I fed them a little more. \n\nI started selling the birds. I realized the money I borrowed and paid it back. I was left with a little balance and couldn't continue the business. Hmmm, it was extremely a difficult situation for  me! I was sustaining myself with the little balance of money I made from selling the birds while still struggling to get verified. \n\nAround the first week of November 2023, I finally got verified and issued a verification number. With the successful verification, I was reinstated in the payroll. The backlog of the arrears was paid but only one month is left unpaid till date. \n\nClose to two years, many workers could not be verified due to the technical faults of the ICT equipments used by the firm to conduct the verification exercise. The firm also ran short of manpower to handle the exercise. The bad side of it is that no worker gets paid until being verified.  So some workers were owed over a year salary. Some died because of heart attacks. Others died from various sicknesses since they couldn't get the money to go for medical treatment.\n\n**My advice for any one going through a difficult time right now**\n\nWell, my own advise would come from the situation that I found myself. It goes to those who may be relying on monthly paychecks. It is good to be employed but, it is best to create more sources income.\n\nNo matter the amount of money you are being paid or receive, always have a second or more sources of income. I was able to survive the difficult days not even moments because, I had a little poultry farm business. \n\nThe increasing responsibilities from all angles could make someone who does not have means of taking care of the responsibilities to think of committing suicide. Having a single source of income  can't take care of these increasing responsibilities.\n\nAgain, having multiple streams of income could help one to meet urgent needs without waiting at the end of the month to receive your payment. So you are able to handle emergencies needing financial attention than folding arms watching things go wrong just because the monthly pay is the only source of income.\n</div>",
