| body | Let me be the first to admit: I have an extremely limited understanding of computers and how they work. For someone well-versed in computer coding, Github, and python/Raspberry, this is probably going to sound like a caveman trying to understand a Lamborghini. Truthfully, most of this stuff is completely over my head. That said, I still find it extremely interesting, and I grasp how this technology has the potential to revolutionize the way humans do business with each other. The technology might also allow machines to do business with one another. I’ll let that simmer for a minute before I try to explain it. What is the internet of things? The internet of things is, basically, the theory behind every common device being connected to some form of internet. This concept is growing, vastly, with every passing day. I can remember a time without cellphones, and I can definitely remember what it was like to NOT have a computer in our home. Those days are long gone, and the truth is the I am part of the last generation to know what its like to live without connectivity. Today, every single electronic device has the capability to connect to the internet. Cars, phones, bluetooth speakers and even toothbrushes are coming out with the capability to connect. That is absolutely insane to consider, but its real. 2017 is the future. What’s interesting to think about is the potential this technology holds. Right now, our use of connected devices is extremely limited. While most items connect to the internet, their functionality is minimal. For instance, what use does a vehicle with internet capability have today? Not much, really. Sure, you can stream music or video for the kids, but that isn’t really revolutionary. What if these everyday items had the ability to order replacement parts on their own? What if your refrigerator was able to order a gallon of milk when you were running low, or your cabinets had the ability to order more dry-goods? This is the vision behind IOTA. Sure, it’s a P2P cryptocurrency, but it’s much more than that! What does IOTA have to do with the internet of things? Well, aside from IOT (internet of things) being in the name IOTA, the idea is that this currency will be more than P2P. Peer to peer is only one option, the main goal is machine-to-machine. As mentioned above, as connectivity grows grows with time, everyday items will be doing business with each other for services and items. Whether this sounds ridiculous or not, it will happen eventually; just maybe not in the way I described it. Really, Amazon came super close to this concept, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that IOTA devs took some inspiration from their product. Amazon sells something called “flings”. Essentially, the flings are a little button that emit a pre-programmed radio wave when in use. So you purchase one for every consumable item in your home and place the button where you keep that item. When you run low on that item, you push the button and there you go, an order is made through your Amazon account and more Tide bleach is on the way! The IOTA model is very similar, just completely automated and much more complicated! What makes IOTA any different from other cryptocurrencies? Well, for starters, it’s new technology entirely. Almost all other cryptos operate on a block chain, the system of distributed ledgers among peers. While IOTA also uses a distributed ledger, the entire network runs on something called the Tangle. The tangle is supposed to be a more secure and anonymous way to do business. This system also requires no mining, there are no transaction fees, and sending currency will eventually be instantaneous. What’s more: the Tangle can be visualized in real time. Here’s a screen shot, but I’ll include the link to the observable Tangle at the bottom (; What do I need to know? There are two really important things about IOTA, and I literally spent the last three days of my life figuring it all out. 1: The wallet. Since IOTA operates OFF the blockchain, whatever wallet you are currently running does not support it. Unless you have some shit I don’t know about. Right now, as I understand it, the only wallet which supports IOTA is the IOTA wallet….from IOTA. You can access the ledger download by checking out https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet. To use the wallet, you’ll need to generate your own seed. check out https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmdqTgEdyKVQAVnfT5iV4ULzTbkV4hhkDkMqGBuot8egfA to do this. If this is unfamiliar to you, a quick youtube search on the IOTA Ledger will help you out. 2: Where to buy IOTA. Currently, the only place I have seen IOTA for sale is on Bitfinex. Bitfinex is, allegedly, going to be restricting customers from the US eventually, but as of today their services are still available to us Yankees. It’s worth noting, also, that IOTA is making it’s way toward more exchanges soon. There are rumors it will be offered on Poloniex and Bittrex within the coming weeks, although I have no way to confirm this. My take on IOTA I am in awe of cryptocurrency in general, but there’s a lot of bull shit out there. Things like Paragoncoin, EOS, and plenty of other altcoins offer very little in return for what you’re actually paying. Simply put, most of them appear to be a pump-and-dump scam. IOTA, however, is a protocol; meaning, a network with integrated smart contracts. Similar to Ethereum, websites and programs can be built on-top of the network. Software for everyday items, as mentioned above, is already being developed to operate on IOTA. This means IOTA actually has capability. I am extremely selective about altcoins, but I am not an educated trader by any means. I do believe, however, that IOTA is around for the long haul. The technology is incredible, and the dev team is very active. The Tangle is up and running, and I think IOTA will prove to be an outstanding asset in the future. Definitely a buy and hold for me! Valuable resources Get a live visualization of the Tangle here: https://tangle.blox.pm/ Talk about IOTA and ask questions at these links: https://www.reddit.com/r/Iota/ https://slack.iota.org/ Buy IOTA at: https://www.bitfinex.com/ Check out the IOTA project at: https://iota.org/ -Error |

If this is unfamiliar to you, a quick youtube search on the IOTA Ledger will help you out.\n\n2: Where to buy IOTA. There are rumors it will be offered on Poloniex and Bittrex within the coming weeks, although I have no way to confirm this.\n\nMy take on IOTA \n\nI am in awe of cryptocurrency in general, but there’s a lot of bull shit out there. Definitely a buy and hold for me!\n\nValuable resources\n\nGet a live visualization of the Tangle here: https://tangle.blox.pm/\n\nTalk about IOTA and ask questions at these links:\n\nhttps://www.reddit.com/r/Iota/\n\nhttps://slack.iota.org/\n\nBuy IOTA at: https://www.bitfinex.com/\n\nCheck out the IOTA project at: https://iota.org/\n\n \n\n \n\n-Error",

| body | Early morning on August 23, the total market cap of cryptocurrencies broke through the $150b line for the first time, according to coinmarketcap.com. As I’m writing this article, the TMC sits just above $152b, showing nothing but strength. We saw another record shortly after passing through the 150 line, jumping as high as $154b. This is an outstanding situation for crypto, as a whole, because as the market grows in size, it attracts bigger money; pushing all us holders a little closer to a Lambo or two! Some perspective To be brutally honest, the total market cap in our little digital currency world still has a lot of growing room. The market cap that covers crypto is looking great, but it is nowhere close to the value of small mainstream markets For a little perspective, the market cap of gold is measured in trillions; so we have some ground to cover. The general sentiment, however, is that when the total market cap is bullish, the individual assets within the market will also be bullish. What I find especially interesting about today’s TMC bull run is that no individual coin was performing especially well during this time. What I mean is, the TMC hit an all time high without an individual coin also hitting an all time high. What does this mean? Well, with my uneducated mind, I work out that the market is growing organically – meaning, all the top performing coins are experiencing exponential growth together. We have seen the relationship between Bitcoin and Ethereum, when one rallies up, so does the other. This makes for some extremely interesting green days, and some tear-filled red days. What does this mean? Well, it’s easy to feel like we’re at the end of our growing days. With a market cap of $150b, some people think the full potential has been reached. After all, in August just three years ago, the total market cap was just north of $7b. That is some massive growth. And it is my opinion that we will continue to see exponential growth. Sure, there will be dips and runs, but all you have to do is be patient. I like to explain it this way: we’re past the early adopter days. crypto is becoming well established, it isn’t mainstream by any stretch, but it’s doing pretty well. If you bought in now, you wouldn’t be comparable to the guy who helped Henry Ford build his first vehicle; but you’d probably be pretty similar to the guy who invested in his first assembly line! -Error |

| body | Generally, cryptocurrency is safe to use. The transactions are conducted anonymously; and with proper practice, utilizing blockchain technology is more safe than depositing your money in the bank. This is because, thanks thanks to the blockchain, only the individual who controls the private keys has the power to move anything out of a wallet. What the heck is a wallet? A wallet is any digital or physical security apparatus which allows the ends user to actually deposit their currencies for holding. This means that, with a wallet/account, you can pull your goods off the exchanges and put them some place secure. Why would I want to take my stuff off the exchange? Well, unfortunately, there are a few reasons. computer-based exchanges are not especially secure, app exchanges being even less so. With proper malware or key logging software, someone could have access to your exchange accounts. Next, a string of events in Bitcoin’s past has shown us that exchanges do not always have the best intentions. A quick Google search of the term “Mt. Gox” should be sufficient to convince you to pull your shit off the exchange pronto. Though no one is entirely sure what happened, the company suspended trading and filed for bankruptcy. During this process, 850,000 Bitcoins were allegedly “lost”, presumed stolen. The consensus seems to be that CEO Karpeles was skimming funds off the top; though the story remains unclear. The last reason I’ll cite has to do with private keys. The entire point of cryptocurrency is that its encrypted. This encryption comes in two form: public and private keys. The public key is your wallet address, something another individual would use to send you currency. The private key, however, is the part that allows you – and only you – to access your wallet. When you leave your cryptocurrency on an exchange, the exchange controls your private key…..which makes it not very private. This endeavor can lead to security concerns with your accounts, especially with the inflating prices of most top-performing currencies. To learn more about private keys check out the link below: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/private-key.asp What is the solution here? In my opinion, there is only one way to store your goods: cold storage. Cold storage consists of two methods, which I will outline and provide resources for! Method 1: Paper wallet. The function of a paper wallet is pretty interesting. The concept is simple enough, and completely anonymous if you do it correctly. Head over to bitaddress.org, where you will be asked to randomly move your cursor around or complete some other random task. This random task actually generates the wallet; I don’t think I have an understanding of how that works. Anyway, after you have completed the task, the page will display your public and private keys. Under the paper wallet tab, you can select how many addresses you’d like to generate; this gives the user options for separating funds. Once you get all that sorted out, you simply hit the print button and there you have it; a paper wallet. You can send your coins to and from this wallet utilizing the keys provided, and as long as you do your part, this should be completely secure. There are still some security concerns, however, and some research you should do before utilizing this method of storage. To read more about building a paper wallet head over to https://www.coindesk.com/information/paper-wallet-tutorial/. Method 2: This method is a little less brain-intensive. I’m a bit hard-headed, and I have to watch someone do something fifty times before I’m able to complete a technical task. This method is perfect for people like me! The hardware wallet. A little piece of technological miracle. This device is a simple USB-powered piece of kit that cannot connect without being plugged into a computer. I kind of works like an old school iPod, where the data could only be transferred via a physical connection to your computer. Furthermore, the two hardware wallets I’m familiar have outstanding security features. For instance, the Trezor wallet displays a cypher on its’ screen when plugged in, and to avoid being keylogged, the user clicks the numbers with their mouse. Also, both the Trezor and Ledger Nano come with recovery seeds. This makes it so that, even if you lose or destroy your wallet, you can access your lost or stolen goods. Another great feature, of both wallets, is multi-currency support. Many phone apps or wallets you can find online only allow storage of one currency; though this is not always the case. With Ledger and Trezor you can store most of the top-performing coins out there. I’ll include a link to each wallet below. Bottom-line When you invest in something, risk of security breech goes up with each dollar put in. In the cryptocurrency world, this threat is no different; especially if you believe the 500k BTC hype, the money is starting to get real. Even small-time guys are starting to see some really nice gains, and security needs to be our number one concern. You wouldn’t send a stranger to the bank with your debit card and pin (hopefully), and you shouldn’t act any other way about digital currency. Leaving assets on an exchange account is unacceptable; you’re just painting a target on your head, basically. Resources Check out the Trezor wallet here: https://trezor.io/ Check out the Ledger Nano here: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/ An outstanding video from Ameer Rosic on crypto security: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq-eH74epAw I hope this article helps! -Error |

The consensus seems to be that CEO Karpeles was skimming funds off the top; though the story remains unclear.\n\nThe last reason I’ll cite has to do with private keys. This endeavor can lead to security concerns with your accounts, especially with the inflating prices of most top-performing currencies.\n\nTo learn more about private keys check out the link below:\n\nhttp://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/private-key.asp\n\nWhat is the solution here? \n\nIn my opinion, there is only one way to store your goods: cold storage. Cold storage consists of two methods, which I will outline and provide resources for!\n\nMethod 1: Paper wallet. To read more about building a paper wallet head over to https://www.coindesk.com/information/paper-wallet-tutorial/.\n\nMethod 2: This method is a little less brain-intensive. I’ll include a link to each wallet below.\n\nBottom-line\n\nWhen you invest in something, risk of security breech goes up with each dollar put in. Leaving assets on an exchange account is unacceptable; you’re just painting a target on your head, basically.\n\nResources\n\nCheck out the Trezor wallet here: https://trezor.io/\n\nCheck out the Ledger Nano here: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/\n\nAn outstanding video from Ameer Rosic on crypto security: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq-eH74epAw\n\n \n\nI hope this article helps!\n\n-Error",

| body | Since the beginning of time, man has sought out precious metals and stones. These items not only look good as accessories, they also do an outstanding job of storing wealth. Through silver, gold and other items, this wealth has the ability to grow with inflation and other market-sensitive occurrences. What is a hedge? A hedge is an investment position intended to offset potential losses or gains that may be incurred by a companion investment. In simple language, a hedge is used to reduce any substantial losses or gains suffered by an individual or an organization (investopedia.com). Hedges are used to ensure savings and other funds grow with inflation and the market. For instance, I always hear the phrase “grandma had five dollars back then. That’s like having 4,000 today!”. While the inflation rate of whatever currency might make that a true statement, Grandma requires more than a savings account to turn her five dollars into 4,000 in accordance with inflation; because five dollars in a savings account twenty years ago is still ten dollars in a savings account today. Thus, an individual identifies a whatever type of market account, physical asset, whatever they want and voila! The case for silver. Silver, like other precious metals, has intrinsic value. Humans, for most of our time on the planet, used monetary systems based exclusively on silver and gold. Today, silver has an outstanding industrial demand for use in electronics. With a growing electronics industry and a currency system based on absolutely nothing, silver is a pretty safe bet for investment. In 1980, silver reached an all-time-high of around 50 dollars an ounce. This was due to the London Silver Fix, an extreme example of market-manipulation. In 2011, the price again spiked to nearly 50 dollars; which is an incredible number considering that, at the time of this writing, the spot price on silver is $17.35. It is impossible to note, however, that both of these extreme spikes in spot pricing for silver were due to instances within the market. The first one being London Silver Fix and the second incident being a “silver shortage” that didn’t actually happen. Again, this is market manipulation, and the price corrected very quickly. That said, the opportunity was still there for people with decent stacks of silver to make some money. Will it happen again? Probably, silver is subject to heavy manipulation. Will you make money off it? Probably not, because it will be difficult to predict when the next fallacious “silver shortage” will be. Now, the good news. As you read above, spot price on Silver is currently $17.35/troy ounce. That means it is extremely easy to get ahold of large amounts of silver. Referring to silver as a hedge, it works great as a sort of savings/investment combo. It’s extremely safe, the price probably won’t go much lower than it currently is, and your currency inflates with time because you own a physical asset. That’s great news because most banks only offer at or below 1% on savings accounts. That’s a pretty poor number. What silver is not. The back-alleys of the internet are trying to turn silver into something it cannot be. A brief clicking around on YouTube will reveal all sorts of doomsday preppers spreading ridiculous information about the looming apocalypse. Their plan is that currency systems will fall apart, governments will fail, and the world as we know it will fall into a state of “without rule of law”. While I’m not betting on this becoming a reality, it is not impossible. However, all reason goes out the window when you invest emotionally. That’s what most of these people are doing. They’re getting emotionally invested. Their grandfather’s grandfather invested in silver, so they will invest in silver to because it’s the safest way to go! They have created their own situation for why silver will eventually increase 1000% in value, and that’s what they are going with. The problem is…the world doesn’t work this way. You can’t just write your own financial narrative that goes against how everything already works. Sure, one day, silver might be worth a shipload of….whatever it is that preppers think they’re going to by with silver; but in the meantime, perfectly acceptable financial opportunities are slipping through their fingertips. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is an outstanding place in everyones’ portfolio for silver. It just shouldn’t be your entire portfolio. The fact of the matter is this: silver does have demand in the industrial market. Silver is also in finite supply; meaning there is a limited amount. That being said, the finite supply of silver is extremely large and it is unlikely a “silver crisis” will occur during this century. It is, however, extremely hard to research this aspect because every outlet writing anything about silver just spreads fear and doomsday bull shit. I think the reality is we don’t even know how much silver there is….because there’s so much goddamn silver. How Domestic Error looks at silver I’ll be honest, I own a nice little stack of precious metals, and I’ll probably continue to buy more. It’s great because, no matter what happens to my bank or checking account, my silver is worth at least what I paid for it. With a little luck, maybe my silver will even be worth five or ten dollars more per ounce than I actually paid for it; likely, this will take a long time, though. Every portfolio deserves some diversification. This is an outstanding way to stay safe and mitigate any potential losses in the future. Silver absolutely serves a purpose in my little get-up, and it probably could serve you well, too. Don’t get too carried away, though. If you’re really interested in investing, do a bunch of research and determine how much is right for you. As a heads up, Forbes suggests precious metals make up less than 10% of your portfolio. I don’t really care to get advice from people who are would sacrifice their children to make ten bucks, but take it for what it’s worth. I’d like to buy some silver! Alright, don’t get too carried away here. There’s some important stuff you need to know. 1: “futures” seems like complete bull shit. I’m not a financial specialist by any stretch, but silver and gold futures appears to be equal to playing poker. Silver/gold futures are standardized, exchange-traded contracts in which the contract buyer agrees to take delivery, from the seller, a specific quantity of silver at a predetermined price on a future delivery date. This is a little confusing, but my understanding is that people trade it like FOREX, buying and shorting based on market movement. Don’t buy futures unless you’re a pro. 2: Do not purchase any precious metal from a place that “stores” your assets for you. Yeah, that’s a real thing. Certain “dealers” don’t actually deal anything. They just sell a contract that says “hey, you bought ten 1-kilo bars a X dollars per kilo. We’ll keep them here and, when you’re ready to sell, we’ll sell them for you, skim an assload of fees off the top, and send you a check!”. Yeah, not cool. If you’re going to buy a physical asset, you better have it in your hand by the end of the week. There are plenty of great places to do this online, the right way. The internet shops are great because they are constantly being updated with spot prices, meaning you’re probably going to get the best spot price available at that given time. Whereas, if you head down to Larry’s exotic coin shop, who the hell knows what he’s basing his prices off. He might be doing it the same way, the guess is yours. I have purchased bullion from two places, APMEX.com (American Precious Metals Exchange) and SDbullion.com. Both are great dealers and I have no complaints so far. APMEX has spot price charts all over the site, so you cant screw it up. Both sites will also purchase your silver back from you, although you’ll be out the shipping cost. To sell silver, I’d suggest heading to your local shop (Larry’s exotica, or whatever) to see what kind of deal you can strike with him. Silver comes in so many forms, what should I get?! This is something I can’t really answer, because it isn’t so cut and dry. You have to decide what you’re into and go with that. What I can tell you is: do not buy any of the ridiculous specialty stuff. A 10-ounce silver skull or 1/16 ounce Pirates of the Caribbean replica coin are not a good investments because of the high premium you pay over spot price. Similarly, a lot of guys are really into numismatics (coin collecting). I don’t have an interest in that, and it’s extremely complicated, but it is an option if that’s what you’re after. To keep it simple, I like to buy 1/5/10 troy-ounce generic bars and leave it at that. So, to wrap it all up, I’m not really bullish or bearish about silver. I think it acts as a great hedge, and it’s going to hold it’s value no matter what. But that’s probably all it’s going to do. A stack of silver is pretty neat to look at, though, and it’s a little easier to explain to your spouse than stocks and crypto. Definitely worth looking into! -Error |
