bodySocial media refers to the interaction or communication among people in which they create, share or exchange ideas on online networks. Social media is a generally new concept. The first social media site, MySpace, was only invented in 2003. This might explain the fact that only one of five adults use social media sites, while four of five people age eighteen or under said that they belong to at least one social media site. Social media greatly influences our current society in many positive ways. It is used in schools, businesses, and for advertisement. While many people today argue that social media takes away from real life relationships and that it can be dangerous, it can be very beneficial if it is used in the correct way. For my project, I focused my research on three very popular social media sites; Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Twitter, founded in March of 2006 by Jack Dorsey, has over 650 million members. Thirty-two percent of Internet users use Twitter and 37.6% of that number use Twitter for conversational purposes. On average, 340 million tweets are sent every day. Sixty percent of Twitter users are females. Jack Dorsey created Twitter before most mobile phones were able to send text messages. He wanted a service in which he could send a message to and it would distribute that message to all of his friends, and so he created “Twitter”. Today, Twitter is one of the top 10 most visited websites on the Internet. Said to be “Twitter’s Twin”, Instagram was founded in October of 2010 by Kevin Systrom, and currently has over 150 million users that are active on a monthly basis. Instagram was intended to be an online photo-sharing and social networking service that lets its users take pictures and upload them so that anyone else with an account can see them. Twenty percent of women and fifteen percent of men who use the Internet use Instagram. Instagram is said to have a higher appeal to younger users, people who live in cities and people who are not Caucasian. The number of Internet users who are members of Instagram has increased greatly, from twelve percent in 2012, to thirty-five percent in 2013. As of today’s date, 35 million “selfies” have been posted on Instagram. The most popular social networking site, Facebook, was created on February 4, 2004 and was originally intended for the use of Harvard students only. As of September 26, 2006, everyone over the age of thirteen was allowed to register for a Facebook account. Even though Facebook is almost a decade old, its number of members is still greatly increasing. In 2012, 67% of online adults used Facebook, while in 2013 seventy-one percent used it. Universities originally used Facebook as a way for their students to meet each other and communicate. It is now used as a way to communicate with friends often with no educational reason, similar to most other social media sites. In conclusion, social media sites are very recent ideas, but they appear to have very bright futures. The opportunities that social media provides for our society are countless and many companies and organizations are using them to better their communication. It helps make advertising and communicating much more efficient and the message gets across to more people. While some people may argue that social media is a waste of time and can be dangerous, as our society develops, social media will begin to have more and more of an impact on our daily lives. ![The-Ultimate-Guide-for-Social-Media-Image-Dimensions-For-2018.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSTd7mdtCsTYSKLHspuMxHCuTFUqpZqwTuLcL8ErhKuRj/The-Ultimate-Guide-for-Social-Media-Image-Dimensions-For-2018.png)

bodyComputer science is a discipline that spans theory and practice. It requires thinking both in abstract terms and in concrete terms. The practical side of computing can be seen everywhere. Nowadays, practically everyone is a computer user, and many people are even computer programmers. Getting computers to do what you want them to do requires intensive hands-on experience. But computer science can be seen on a higher level, as a science of problem solving. Computer scientists must be adept at modeling and analyzing problems. They must also be able to design solutions and verify that they are correct. Problem solving requires precision, creativity, and careful reasoning. Computer science also has strong connections to other disciplines. Many problems in science, engineering, health care, business, and other areas can be solved effectively with computers, but finding a solution requires both computer science expertise and knowledge of the particular application domain. Thus, computer scientists often become proficient in other subjects. Finally, computer science has a wide range of specialties. These include computer architecture, software systems, graphics, artifical intelligence, computational science, and software engineering. Drawing from a common core of computer science knowledge, each specialty area focuses on particular challenges. Computer Science is practiced by mathematicians, scientists and engineers. Mathematics, the origins of Computer Science, provides reason and logic. Science provides the methodology for learning and refinement. Engineering provides the techniques for building hardware and software. Finally, and most importantly, computer scientists are computer scientists because it is fun. (Not to mention lucrative career opportunities!) Another definition from http://www.csab.org/comp_sci_profession.html Computer Science: The Profession Computer science is a discipline that involves the understanding and design of computers and computational processes. In its most general form it is concerned with the understanding of information transfer and transformation. Particular interest is placed on making processes efficient and endowing them with some form of intelligence. The discipline ranges from theoretical studies of algorithms to practical problems of implementation in terms of computational hardware and software. A central focus is on processes for handling and manipulating information. Thus, the discipline spans both advancing the fundamental understanding of algorithms and information processes in general as well as the practical design of efficient reliable software and hardware to meet given specifications. Computer science is a young discipline that is evolving rapidly from its beginnings in the 1940's. As such it includes theoretical studies, experimental methods, and engineering design all in one discipline. This differs radically from most physical sciences that separate the understanding and advancement of the science from the applications of the science in fields of engineering design and implementation. In computer science there is an inherent intermingling of the theoretical concepts of computability and algorithmic efficiency with the modern practical advancements in electronics that continue to stimulate advances in the discipline. It is this close interaction of the theoretical and design aspects of the field that binds them together into a single discipline. Because of the rapid evolution it is difficult to provide a complete list of computer science areas. Yet it is clear that some of the crucial areas are theory, algorithms and data structures, programming methodology and languages, and computer elements and architecture. Other areas include software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer networking and communication, database systems, parallel computation, distributed computation, computer-human interaction, computer graphics, operating systems, and numerical and symbolic computation. A professional computer scientist must have a firm foundation in the crucial areas of the field and will most likely have an in-depth knowledge in one or more of the other areas of the discipline, depending upon the person's particular area of practice. Thus, a well educated computer scientist should be able to apply the fundamental concepts and techniques of computation, algorithms, and computer design to a specific design problem. The work includes detailing of specifications, analysis of the problem, and provides a design that functions as desired, has satisfactory performance, is reliable and maintainable, and meets desired cost criteria. Clearly, the computer scientist must not only have sufficient training in the computer science areas to be able to accomplish such tasks, but must also have a firm understanding in areas of mathematics and science, as well as a broad education in liberal studies to provide a basis for understanding the societal implications of the work being performed. From Mississippi State University Computer Science is the study of principles, applications, and technologies of computing and computers. It involves the study of data and data structures and the algorithms to process these structures; of principles of computer architecture-both hardware and software; of problem-solving and design methodologies; of computer-related topics such as numerical analysis, operations research, and artificial intelligence; and of language design, structure, and translation technique. Computer Science provides a foundation of knowledge for students with career objectives in a wide range of computing and computer-related professions. From http://www2.cs.unb.ca/ Problem solving. The study of efficient and effective software development techniques. Team work and communication skills. An interest in applying technology to problems in a wide variety of disciplines. From the University of Missouri - Rolla http://www.cs.umr.edu/csdept/career/what_is_cs.html Computer Science is concerned with information in much the same sense that physics is concerned with energy; it is devoted to the representation, storage, manipulation and presentation of information. Computer Science is concerned with "the study of symbol-manipulating machines, with communication between man and machine and with the application of these machines". Major areas of Computer Science include: 1. Operating Systems--concerned with the development and structure of complex programs which facilitate man-machine communications. 2. Computational Science--the analysis of numerical methods for solving mathematical problems with a computer. 3. Programming Languages--the study of the design and properties of languages by which humans communicate with computers. 4. Architecture--the study and use of mathematical logic to design electronic circuits. 5. Intelligent Systems--concerned with means by which computers may perform tasks which might be characterized as "intelligent" if performed by humans. 6. Automata Theory--an abstract study of computers and their capabilities. 7. Information Storage and Retrieval--the study of methods for storing a vast amount of data in a computer and methods for searching and retrieving this data. 8. Software Engineering--the study of tools and techniques for software design, development, testing and maintenance. Another way to view any science is to look at the methods used within that science. In some sense these methods are similar in many (most?) sciences, but they can take on different characteristics in each discipline. Four important methods used in the study of computer science are: invention --- formulation of new algorithmic and new architectural paradigms design --- software engineering uses design principles to build complex systems to solve computational problems analysis --- certainly a major focus within computer science is the analysis and evaluation of software, algorithms and architecture. experimentation --- use of experiments to reveal computing principles is an important method of scientific investigation within computer science.![Computer-Code.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmRXZs3qADZkCuJbKhJAKZ8tG2mwm4enDS5k8qxy7jsF8T/Computer-Code.jpg)

bodyThe definition of virtual reality comes, naturally, from the definitions for both ‘virtual’ and ‘reality’. The definition of ‘virtual’ is near and reality is what we experience as human beings. So the term ‘virtual reality’ basically means ‘near-reality’. This could, of course, mean anything but it usually refers to a specific type of reality emulation. We know the world through our senses and perception systems. In school we all learned that we have five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. These are however only our most obvious sense organs. The truth is that humans have many more senses than this, such as a sense of balance for example. These other sensory inputs, plus some special processing of sensory information by our brains ensures that we have a rich flow of information from the environment to our minds. Everything that we know about our reality comes by way of our senses. In other words, our entire experience of reality is simply a combination of sensory information and our brains sense-making mechanisms for that information. It stands to reason then, that if you can present your senses with made-up information, your perception of reality would also change in response to it. You would be presented with a version of reality that isn’t really there, but from your perspective it would be perceived as real. Something we would refer to as a virtual reality. So, in summary, virtual reality entails presenting our senses with a computer generated virtual environment that we can explore in some fashion. In technical terms… Answering “what is virtual reality” in technical terms is straight-forward. Virtual reality is the term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person. That person becomes part of this virtual world or is immersed within this environment and whilst there, is able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions. How is virtual reality achieved? Although we talk about a few historical early forms of virtual reality elsewhere on the site, today virtual reality is usually implemented using computer technology. There are a range of systems that are used for this purpose, such as headsets, omni-directional treadmills and special gloves. These are used to actually stimulate our senses together in order to create the illusion of reality. This is more difficult than it sounds, since our senses and brains are evolved to provide us with a finely synchronised and mediated experience. If anything is even a little off we can usually tell. This is where you’ll hear terms such as immersiveness and realism enter the conversation. These issues that divide convincing or enjoyable virtual reality experiences from jarring or unpleasant ones are partly technical and partly conceptual. Virtual reality technology needs to take our physiology into account. For example, the human visual field does not look like a video frame. We have (more or less) 180 degrees of vision and although you are not always consciously aware of your peripheral vision, if it were gone you’d notice. Similarly when what your eyes and the vestibular system in your ears tell you are in conflict it can cause motion sickness. Which is what happens to some people on boats or when they read while in a car. If an implementation of virtual reality manages to get the combination of hardware, software and sensory synchronicity just right it achieves something known as a sense of presence. Where the subject really feels like they are present in that environment. Why have virtual reality? This may seems like a lot of effort, and it is! What makes the development of virtual reality worthwhile? The potential entertainment value is clear. Immersive films and video games are good examples. The entertainment industry is after all a multi-billion dollar one and consumers are always keen on novelty. Virtual reality has many other, more serious, applications as well. There are a wide variety of applications for virtual reality which include: ArchitectureSportMedicineThe ArtsEntertainment Virtual reality can lead to new and exciting discoveries in these areas which impact upon our day to day lives. Wherever it is too dangerous, expensive or impractical to do something in reality, virtual reality is the answer. From trainee fighter pilots to medical applications trainee surgeons, virtual reality allows us to take virtual risks in order to gain real world experience. As the cost of virtual reality goes down and it becomes more mainstream you can expect more serious uses, such as education or productivity applications, to come to the fore. Virtual reality and its cousin augmented reality could substantively change the way we interface with our digital technologies. Continuing the trend of humanising our technology. Features of virtual reality systems There are many different types of virtual reality systems but they all share the same characteristics such as the ability to allow the person to view three-dimensional images. These images appear life-sized to the person. Plus they change as the person moves around their environment which corresponds with the change in their field of vision. The aim is for a seamless join between the person’s head and eye movements and the appropriate response, e.g. change in perception. This ensures that the virtual environment is both realistic and enjoyable. A virtual environment should provide the appropriate responses – in real time- as the person explores their surroundings. The problems arise when there is a delay between the person’s actions and system response or latency which then disrupts their experience. The person becomes aware that they are in an artificial environment and adjusts their behaviour accordingly which results in a stilted, mechanical form of interaction. The aim is for a natural, free-flowing form of interaction which will result in a memorable experience. Summary Virtual reality is the creation of a virtual environment presented to our senses in such a way that we experience it as if we were really there. It uses a host of technologies to achieve this goal and is a technically complex feat that has to account for our perception and cognition. It has both entertainment and serious uses. The technology is becoming cheaper and more widespread. We can expect to see many more innovative uses for the technology in the future and perhaps a fundamental way in which we communicate and work thanks to the possibilities of virtual reality.![iphone-vr.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmX98S2FCnb3fwp2XvoddVaev3hmPcaSSuDY37cGrahW2Z/iphone-vr.jpg)

bodyPhotography is the process of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium like film or an electronic sensor. The products of photography are called negatives and photographs, the latter being developed from the negatives. Light patterns reflected or emitted by objects activate a sensitive chemical or electronic sensor during a timed exposure usually through a photographic lens in a camera. The camera stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. Photographers control the camera and lens to expose the light recording material to the required amount of light to form a latent image (on film) or raw file (in digital camera) which, after due processing, is converted to a usable image. In digital cameras, instead of film, an electronic image sensor based on light-sensitive devices is used. Photography can also be called an art and good photographers often exhibit their oeuvre like artists exhibit their paintings. In fact, the Greek word for photography means ‘drawing with light’. Photography has many applications in business, science and filmmaking, fashion, tourism, advertising, etc.![images.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdXf9epnEWL4yrbYx4oZAvkota9DX628waKxwGfhVFCXz/images.jpg)

bodyA light, bright-tasting soup to serve chilled. By which I mean thoroughly cold, and served with ice cubes. The consistency can be as smooth or rough as you like, but I prefer it to have a coarse minced texture, so use the mincer attachment to the food mixer. I have used a food processor too, but it requires keeping a careful eye not to reduce it to a puree. Serves 6 romano peppers 3 yellow pepper 1, large cucumber 250g ripe cantaloupe melon 1.25kg (unpeeled weight) basil 10g sherry vinegar 1 tbsp lemon juice of ½ ice cubes Halve and seed the peppers then cut them into large pieces. Coarsely mince or process them to your chosen consistency. Peel the cucumber and cut into rough chunks, then process to the same texture as the peppers and add to the peppers. Prepare the melon, discarding the skin and seeds and fibre, then cutting the flesh into chunks. Process in a similar way to the other ingredients then stir together. Roughly chop the basil and stir into the soup together with the lemon juice and a little salt and black pepper. Cover and chill thoroughly. Stir in the ice cubes just before serving.![4902.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZrdsKz7FENdPwvSG8h967ijVbysfVq131RUbRh8K2C2N/4902.jpg)
