Skipping breakfast is probably the main contender when it comes to missing one of our meals in the day. Our rush in the mornings give us ample excuses to just leave the toast or cereal and make up for it at lunchtime. Maybe you do it so often now that you don’t even think about having breakfast anymore? But how is this exactly affecting us? Often we probably don’t even think about it or we just think skipping a meal can be easily made up by eating more for our next meal – that this will somehow negate the lack of food and won’t be detrimental to our health. However, this isn’t the case. Skipping meals on a regular basis can have a huge negative affect on our bodies – some are obvious but some may be more of a surprise to those who think skipping meals is harmless. With that being said, here are 6 adverse effects of skipping that much-needed breakfast, lunch or dinner. 1. Your Mood With Suffer Greatly Probably one of the well-known results of skipping a meal is the affect it has on your mood. Yes, those blood sugar levels take a massive dive when you don’t replenish yourself with a meal and regularly missing meals triggers a stress response related to our body’s survival mode. When our energy reserves are near empty, we produce this stress response in order to be able to ready ourselves against danger but these sudden increased levels of stress hormones also cause outbursts, mental instability and even mild depression. 2. Affects Your Ability To Focus The decrease in sugar levels not only affects your mood but also affects your ability to concentrate and focus on simple tasks. This is because our brain runs on glucose and the less glucose there is to help the brain function to the best of its ability, the more likely you are to have a decreased attention span. If you skip meals because you’re too busy and think you’re creating more time to be productive, then think again. Skipping that meal is only going to deteriorate your work performance in the short term, or if done regularly, in the long term too. So, don’t work through lunch or skip breakfast so you can get more work done – you’ll be more alert and focused if you chow down and fuel up. 3. You’re More Likely To Overeat The more hungry you are, the more your brain is telling your body to fill up on food – even if you don’t need it. So the next time you eat after skipping a meal, you are more likely to overeat and consume more calories. Not only this, but you are more likely to reach for the junk food over healthy food meaning meals are bigger and more unhealthy just from skipping that earlier meal time. 4. You’re More Likely To Gain Weight Not only are you more likely to gain weight through overeating, your body overcompensates by hanging on desperately to the energy in the food you do eventually eat; storing it stubbornly out of fear you will go through regular starvation periods. It’s basically messing with your metabolism and storing everything you eat as fat. So never think sneakily skipping breakfast, lunch or dinner will ever help you to lose weight. In fact, it will most likely have the opposite affect especially on a regular basis. 5. Your Appearance Will Start To Suffer There’s no hiding from a bad diet of skipped meals. It will start to show on the outside through dry skin and flat, greasy, lifeless hair – even oral health can take a beating. We all need nutrients to keep our bodies in tip top condition and by skipping meals on a regular basis these much-needed nutrients diminish. We work hard all week and look forward to the weekend, but then work just as hard at having fun (in order to forget the stress of our week and get as much as possible out of our free time). Often we’re more tired at the end of the weekend than we are at the end of the work week! What’s the deal with our furiously paced and hectic lives? As a generation, we’ve got more freedoms and opportunity, more equality, and more options for everything than ever before (ordering anything online and getting it tomorrow, getting food delivered at home at midnight, etc.) Yet, we are also more on display than ever before and more competitive (by necessity) than ever before (with everything in the world being find-able on the internet, we are competing with everyone in the world; and anything we can find out or learn to do is something everyone else can find out or learn to do just as easily!) Thanks to social media and entertainment trends like reality television, we live in a world where all of us can see what almost everyone else is doing (or pretending to do) at every moment. We are constantly bombarded by images of successful or beautiful or happy people sharing only the best images or best moments (often artificially created for appearance sake) from their lives and keeping their embarrassing, difficult moments and failures to themselves. We respond in kind, sharing only our most exciting and fabulous looking photos and making our everyday lives seem like something out of a magazine or movie. After all, if everyone else is having such beautiful, amazing lives and are so successful and happy, we can’t seem as if we aren’t, right? We begin to care more about how we look doing things, or how people will perceive the things we do and the choices we make, than we do anything for its own sake. We forget to think about what we truly want and what will make us happy and instead talk ourselves out of (and into) the things that are more likely to be applauded and accepted by others. We work hard to get people to respect us and give us compliments or tell us how great we are or how jealous they are of our career/vacation/gorgeous boyfriend; but in fact, those compliments feel meaningless when we get them because they aren’t compliments on who we are. They’re compliments on how we’ve crafted our life to appear or how well we’ve sold ourselves in public. This obsession with appearances and keeping up with everyone else around us leads us to constant dissatisfaction. We watch image after image and read post after post that put us into jealousy and panic mode all at once. So and so bought a new house? Got a promotion? Got engaged AND lost 15 pounds? Not fair, I want all of these things and don’t have them yet! I’ve got to get going…! We look at these images and absorb these messages and think: Our hair isn’t shiny enough. Our thighs and stomach aren’t in good enough shape to be caught on camera in a swimsuit. Our clothes aren’t cute or hip enough. Our car is too old; we’ve got to get the newest model like everyone else in our position. We need a manicure/spray tan/new outfit/botox for those forehead wrinkles… before we get caught in anymore event photos with that cute young co-worker. We never ever say to ourselves ‘I’m good enough just the way I am, even if I don’t have exactly what this or that friend has. I’m happy with what I have and what I look like and where I’m at.’ We are never fulfilled, because we are constantly making an effort to do more and be better. We forget to appreciate the moment and to love ourselves. Not loving ourselves leads to our not feeling good enough for others to love us, which in turn leads to dating the wrong people and feeling insecure and unsure about whether they like us or care about us or love us enough. We refuse to admit that it’s our own job to fix the emptiness inside of us and that fixing ourselves first is the only way to be ready to fully love someone else. It’s time to stop the insanity. Get back to the basics. Use common sense. Look inward and focus on things that truly matter: friendships, family, health, our passions,… love. Imagine if, instead of spending an hour or two each day reading about everyone else’s fabulous lives and feeling inadequate, or participating in threads about unimportant things, we instead spent those hours learning a language, writing in a journal, reading a book, getting outdoors for some physical activity, or meditating? What if we wanted less, and assessed what it is that truly makes us happy (hint: it’s probably not getting a new car because everyone else has one)? What if we stopped there and asked ourselves the following questions: Do we have a good relationship with our family? Do we have a friend or partner who we love? Do we spend enough time with them and let them know how much they mean to us? Do we feel good physically? If not, how can we fix that? More exercise? Better eating habits? Are we drinking too much? Sleeping too little? Working too many hours? Can we force ourselves to stop, be grateful, and not to desire so much stuff that we don’t need? To not let vanity decide for us what will make us happy? We absolutely can. Let go of the meaningless. Keep the meaningful closer. Make efforts not to be swayed or distracted by jealousy or feelings of inadequacy, but instead look inward, practice mindfulness and self-love, and simplify your life. Focus on relationships and health and happiness instead of material possessions, professional or social ‘status,’ and income. Take a few minutes and think about what makes you the happiest. Who do you feel your best around? What in your life is making you the most unhappy? Now focus on these things and make a plan. Do the things that make you happy and see the people that make you happy more often. Get rid of (or make a plan to get rid of over time if it’s something that is difficult) what makes you unhappy. Forget about whether changing jobs/careers/boyfriends will make you look less successful or popular. Start today. Note from author: I quit a 14 year career just under two years ago in order to travel and to train myself in new skills that would allow me to get away from a career that was affecting my health, relationships, and happiness and to move towards a new way of life. I haven’t bought new clothes in a year. I haven’t eaten at fancy restaurants. I haven’t been able to afford manicures or pedicures or spa treatments. I can’t brag about my promotion or how much money I’m making or the fabulous luxury trips I’m taking. But I’m the happiest I’ve been in over 10 years. |

It's interesting to note that the Founding Fathers, in all their wisdom, didn't claim happiness as a right, only its pursuit. Since those three concepts were linked in 1776, public health has improved and our freedom to live life as we see fit has increased. The pursuit of happiness continues, largely because the object of our pursuit is so much more elusive than life or liberty. We all want happiness, but finding it isn't the easiest venture. Many of us conceive of it as the end-product of material wealth, career goals and family harmony. With that in mind, we seek out the things we believe will deliver it: better cars, nicer houses and bigger paychecks. Others of us work to put together a large network of friends or find a spouse. When we're not happy with what we have, we believe we'll be happier when we get what we want. And we're right, we will be happier -- for a while. The problem is that once you get a large house with a swimming pool or get that promotion you've been chasing, you gradually get used to it. In fact, even when we're negatively affected by events, our immediate dissatisfaction also gradually fades, and in time we return to our pre-existing state of happiness (or unhappiness, whichever the case may be). Lottery winners and people who have been paralyzed report similar levels of happiness one year after the life-changing event. The initial change from the status quo produces short-term happiness or unhappiness, but as that becomes the day-to-day norm, happiness seems to level out [source: Wargo]. So what does make us happy? Is it a vibrant social life? Hearing the pitter-patter of little feet? Having a healthy lifestyle? Research has uncovered some surprising facts about what makes us happy, as well as the effect that happiness has on our lives. |

This morning, on Twitter, Kim revealed much more about his upcoming Bitcoin-based Megaupload 2.0 release, so let’s see what’s coming for the New Year. The launch date has been set Today, Kim set a launch date for Megaupload 2.0 of January 20, 2017. It will come with many interesting little features like offering a white-label option, so you can tie into their hosting service while adding your own domain name for free. Capture obscure files that aren’t on your server, but that you are linking to and want to add to your Megaupload account. For those who favor increased privacy, or even anonymity, Dotcom tweets that he has you covered. That is great for the proletariat, but what is there for the Bitcoin lover in you? Dotcom says Megaupload additions can be linked to Bitcoin microtransactions. Think YouTube with Bitcoin as the payment modality. If you upload files that are popular downloads, it sounds like you can earn some ‘digital gold.’ This should help Bitcoin prices more than triple after the first year, according to Kim Dotcom. Bitcache, a potential Bitcoin wallet Dotcom is coining a term within Megaupload 2.0 called Bitcache, a potential Bitcoin wallet for your Megaupload account. He believes this Bitcache design is a new solution to Bitcoin’s current blockchain limitations. His tweet states that he is targeting 100,000,000 Bitcache wallets for the program. Something to look forward to in 2017 So, to recap, a late January release of an anonymous cloud sharing, anti-surveillance video hosting, Bitcoin-caching online service that will serve the population of the Philippines (approximately 103M.) Kim Dotcom is not afraid to dream big, and most didn’t have him getting this far. | body | You will be the most popular and hounded person at any party Everyone is compelled to ask to see a trick as soon as you say ‘I’m a magician’. Then, once you show one person a trick, it's scary how it spreads like a virus – then everyone knows you’re a magician and you have to do tricks all night. Obviously getting into magic you want to show people tricks, but sometimes you just want to chill. You never leave the house empty handed I’m always prepared, especially these days. People see me on TV so they’re like, ‘You’re that guy, show me something’. I might borrow an object off them, but I’ll always have a pack of cards on me. I guess if you’re a doctor you probably get it as well, like ‘I’ve got this thing…’ or if you’re a comedian: ‘Tell us a joke!’ It’s an occupational hazard. Good breath and clean fingernails are essential I spent years being a resident magician in restaurants, and people take hygiene very seriously. When you come in quite close to someone and you have dirty hands, they won’t enjoy the magic as much because they’re too busy looking at how grubby your fingernails are. And if you’re talking close to someone, you don’t want your breath to be kicking – you need to make sure that’s in check. It’s the Wild West out there for budding magicians It’s a competitive industry. I guess a lot of people keep a lot of stuff to themselves, and even though it’s a niche market it’s tough to get work. It’s like any industry, really – you get people that genuinely want to help you out, and then you get some that don’t want you to succeed and be better than them. They want the work, the money, the contacts and don’t really want to share that. The Magic Circle is no joke It has its own headquarters situated in a quiet, mysterious place where you wouldn’t expect it, and inside it looks amazing. If you want to become a member there are two ways: if you’re more a theorist than a performer, you can do a dissertation. The other way is a practical examination – you’ve got to perform in front of 12 judges who are big members of the Circle. I did my first audition at 18 and got membership. I never really went to the meetings – they were always on a Monday night and I’d be busy at gigs, but it’s just nice to be able to say I’m part of the Magic Circle. What’s the Christmas party like? Magical. Building a reputation takes time, for no money I had to do a lot of free stuff to get my name out there. I made loads of business cards and just handed them out, and I had to prostitute myself a bit, like ‘Let me show you this’, even if people didn’t want to see it. You’ve got to play it smart – If you perform in a nice restaurant you might get famous people in there, or people that work in newspapers or TV, so you’ve got to make the most of every table and blow them away. Most of the money you make will go back into buying playing cards Cards can be a magician’s number-one prop, especially a close up magician. [When performing] I’m giving people packs of cards to shuffle, I’m ripping cards up, and when people shuffle cards they get all adventurous and drop them on the floor. I need them in a certain condition, so when I’m doing a performance I might go through two packs. They’re not cheap, so it’s better to buy in bulk than a pack at a time. Social skills are crucial A lot of magicians tend to be quite awkward and a bit socially inept because they’ve spent so many hours practising in front of the mirror, so when you have to go out and show people it can be quite daunting. Good social skills help you connect with people better, and if people like you they’ll automatically like what you do. It won’t happen overnight Magicians have to do magic for 10 or 20 years before they get to the point where they’re like, ‘I’m ready’. I did magic for 10 years prior to getting my first series, and I don’t think you could do a TV show after just a year or two in magic. Writing a great song might take you five minutes, and if you sing it beautifully and it resonates with someone – it’s a hit. It’s one thing learning the magic, but it's another thing being a performer, especially on TV. You’ll need a thick skin Magic is like a religion. You get people that truly believe and no explanation is necessary, but then you get the people think it’s a load of bollocks. I like to cater for the people who think it’s bollocks, because I’ve been doing this now for so many years. This is my career, my livelihood, my passion, and what I do for the people on the streets is exactly what you’re seeing at home. There’s no other thing that’s happening, I can actually do these things. For it to be dismissed as a camera trick is frustrating, but that’s what comes with it. |

I did magic for 10 years prior to getting my first series, and I don’t think you could do a TV show after just a year or two in magic. Writing a great song might take you five minutes, and if you sing it beautifully and it resonates with someone – it’s a hit. It’s one thing learning the magic, but it's another thing being a performer, especially on TV.\n\nYou’ll need a thick skin\nMagic is like a religion. You get people that truly believe and no explanation is necessary, but then you get the people think it’s a load of bollocks. I like to cater for the people who think it’s bollocks, because I’ve been doing this now for so many years. This is my career, my livelihood, my passion, and what I do for the people on the streets is exactly what you’re seeing at home. There’s no other thing that’s happening, I can actually do these things. For it to be dismissed as a camera trick is frustrating, but that’s what comes with it.",
