People talk about making a trip to this destination all the time, but you’ve never been there and haven’t met many who have made that trip.\n\nSome have tried and failed ‘cos the route is known to be perilous.\n\nBut you really want to go and experience this fantastic destination. What would you do? \n\nOf course, you would want to prepare well for the journey. You would get a map and plan the route you would want to take. \n\nYou would want to talk to people who have made that trip before to get some guidance. You make a note of all the dangers en route, and how best to avoid those pitfalls.\n\nYou would go out and stock up on all the things you will or might need during the journey - fill fuel for your car, get some food and water for the road, gadgets you’ll need for the trip - camera, phone, GPS etc. \n\nPhysically prepare yourself for the journey, have a good night’s sleep so that you can wake up refreshed for the long drive. The list goes on.\n\n**But…**\n\nOn the day of departure, you start having doubts.\n\nMaybe the destination is not as amazing as you think it is? Also, you don’t know how long the journey is going to take? \nWhat if the car breaks down? Maybe it’d be a good idea to take some more time and learn how to fully repair the vehicle, in case it breaks down on the way?\n\nMaybe you should talk to some more people and check how tough the journey is and whether the destination is even worth it. Should you perhaps go for a survival course in case you get lost in the wilderness on the way?\n\nAlso, what about photography? You need to take perfect photos on the way once you get started - it’d be a good idea to do a photography course so that you’ll be well prepared when the time comes.\n\nMaybe you need to replan the route so that you can try and avoid all those dangers you heard about that you *might* encounter on the other road?\n\nNow you look at all the things you need to do and decide you’re just not prepared enough for the journey, so you put it off, convincing yourself that you will start once you have done the proper preparation.\n\nSix months or maybe even one year down the line you look back and realise that you never really got started on that journey. You are still planning your route; still learning photography - you are not good enough yet. You never got started on learning how to repair your car in case of a breakdown - and come to think of it, now you are not even sure whether that is going to help in any way.\n\nIn the meantime you just continue going ‘round in circles in your little town, you haven’t really gone anywhere else, but you feel safe taking those drably familiar routes over and over even though you don’t particularly like the destinations it gets you to.\n\n**Now, you must be wondering where this is all leading to?**\n\nWell, let’s give the whole thing a slightly different perspective - what if all the stuff I mentioned above were to be applied to your wanting to get started on a different direction in life to that you are on right now - for example, on an entrepreneurial journey maybe?\n\nYou have decided enough is enough with your day job, you need to reclaim your time, and you want to get started on that dream business you always wanted to start.\n\nYou might start talking to some people who have tried that before - and probably failed - who might tell you how ‘risky’ it is to get started on that route. Now you are a bit doubtful.\n\nYou might then read some books or attend some courses to learn how to get started. Now you know a little bit more, and that knowledge has reminded you how much more you need to learn to get started.\n\nYou need to decide what business you want to start, what service or product you will be selling, who your customers will be, what will be the medium through which you will access your customers - so basically a full-fledged business plan.\nThen you need to figure out how to source your product or set up your service; you'll need to set up a website, you'll need to understand social media marketing, here again, the list goes on.\n\nBut you don’t know how to do all that, so you attend some more courses, try to learn *everything* before you get started. The more you learn, the more you realise there is more you need to learn. You sign up for all kinds of courses and webinars, download books that you never get around to reading, and keep collecting all sorts of tools and accessories that you think might help you get started.\n\nFinally, you feel so overwhelmed that you don’t feel ready to get started at all, so you put it off. You decide to let things drag on as it is till you are sure that you are ready to take that plunge. And life goes on taking you further away from your dreams - unless and until something shakes you out of your slumber for some reason on the way.\n\nBut have you thought about when or on what basis you will know that you are ready to take that big step and get started on that journey finally?\n\nThe truth is, in both the real trip scenario and the analogous entrepreneurial scenario, you can never prepare enough to get started on that journey.\n\nAfter having done a certain level of essential preparation, you just have to get started and move forward with faith and determination. You need to have the confidence that as new challenges come up, you will figure out a solution - rather than pre-empt every potential obstacle by trying to prepare for it.\n\nYou don’t need to know everything when you are getting started - you will learn what you need to learn when the time comes.\n\nYou don’t need to be a good car mechanic to become a good driver - if we were to think like that, a majority of us would never get on the road and drive.\n\nSo, if you have been dreaming about getting started on that extraordinary journey, whether that be taking a new direction towards a life you always imagined, but never dared to; or even going on an actual trip to a dream destination, **just pack your bags and go!** \n\n**Time is incredibly precious, so let’s not waste any more of it waiting!**",
