From food deliveries to hungry golfers in the middle of play to essential medicines traveling large distances, this can have huge implications. Israeli company Flytrex’s drones can carry up to 3kg parcels, very quickly over short distances. \n\nAirspace Sanitisation\n\nDrones and airports don’t normally mix very well because of the dangers they pose to commercial airliners. However, engineers at Caltech have developed algorithms for autonomous drones that can drive away flocks of birds from in and around airports. A company called Surf Life Saving WA is leading the charge here. \nShort Air Transit \nDrones that can autonomously carry one or two passengers over a short distance have been developed by Chinese company Ehang. Latvian company Aerones is also using heavy-lift drones for firefighting and de-icing windmill blades. Aerones’ drones have up to 36 propellers and they’re called tethered heavy lift drones because they lift a power cable and water hose from the ground rather than use up the payload for batteries and liquids. Since they’re tethered, flying time is essentially unlimited. \nAn Aerones drone was also successfully tested for the very first skydive. An untethered drone lifted skydiver Ingus Augstkalns to almost 1100 feet from where he jumped using a parachute. \n\nBorder & Coast Patrol \n\nThe US-Mexico border stretches about 3200 kms, roughly 700kms of that is protected with a fence (typically in urban areas) while the rest is just flat land. After a man in China’s Ningxia Province was paralysed in an accident, his wife abandoned him and their six-year-old daughter, Jia Jia. Juggling between school and other household chores, Jia now takes care of her disabled father with help from her elderly grandparents.\nAccording to local Chinese media report, Jia wakes up as early as 6 am every morning to give her father a massage for at least half an hour. Once done, she brushes his teeth and washes his face before leaving for school. After reaching home, Jia feeds him and helps him move around the house with the help of a homemade ‘mobility hoist’. Her grandparents, who are both farmers, take care of her father once she is away at school.\nAccording to the report her father, Tian Haicheng, 40, became paralysed chest down after a car accident in March 2016. Soon after, his wife left Tian and took his eldest son with her. The two had been married for seven years. Tian said that his wife had told him she was going to stay at her mother’s place for a couple of days but has never returned or filed for a divorce.\n\nTian had set up an account on Kuaishou, a live-streaming application in China, to raise money for the family. The account, which shows the Jia nursing her father, has over 480,000 followers, according to a Daily Mail report.",
