These days it <a href=\"http://www.coinfox.info/news/5676-platforma-steemit-kriptovalyuta-za-publikatsii-2\">grows explosively</a>&nbsp;and seems to become the main<a href=\"https://steemit.com/steemit/@stellabelle/steemit-is-on-the-verge-of-disrupting-social-media\"> social media disruptor.</a></p>\n<p>To be more precise, there is a <a href=\"https://steem.io/roadmap/launch-and-sale/\">distinction </a>between Steem the blockchain, STEEM the cryptocurrency and Steemit the social media website.</p>\n<p>Steem and its network protocol were announced for the first time on 24 March 2016 in a<a href=\"https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1410943.0\">post </a>on bitcointalk.org. Following the launch, the bitcointalk community had an opportunity to test the code for a few days. This was followed by a relaunch, and mining STEEM began. According to the project’s website, over two dozen individuals started mining STEEM in the first few hours.</p>\n<p>Because Steemit Inc <a href=\"https://steem.io/roadmap/launch-and-sale/\">mined </a>over 80% of the available cryptocurrency during the first week, less than 20% of STEEM remained liquid at that time. For them, a sophisticated algorithm is applied to assign mining rights. On the average, a block is produced every 2 seconds. Every 21 blocks, there is a rotation of 21 active miners, of whom 19 individuals from around the world are selected as top miners by STEEM holders’ voting, one block producer is selected by proof-of-work mining. The remaining seat is timeshared by a queue of all other miners in the network.</p>\n<p>In May 2016, steemit.com Beta <a href=\"https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1466593.msg14800086#msg14800086\">was launched</a>&nbsp;and the project is now proceeding to its last two phases, namely the launch of steemit.com scheduled for this month and the public launch of the platform in July, which will be accompanied by the intensive promotion of the service and related signup bonus and referral program. Moreover, on 4 July 2016, around 5 million STEEM&nbsp;<a href=\"https://steem.io/roadmap/launch-and-sale/\">will be distributed</a> among the best content producers at steemit.com.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Old Power/New Power</strong>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"https://steem.io/roadmap/launch-and-sale/\">Steem </a>is an aphetic form of esteem which means to set a high value on or to prize. In the 14th-16th century it meant value. Steem is also a homophone for steam which is frequently associated with power. It only seemed right for a cryptocurrency to be associated with value and power.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;What Steem is doing, basically, <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZmpCAqD7hs\">is combining</a>&nbsp;the blockchain technology with the concept of social media. The first enables the possibility of microtransactions within steemit.com, which take the shape of either votes or rewards. Thus, steemit.com focuses strongly on 1) quality content (one is motivated to upload something worthy of attention in order to get more votes and to be rewarded better), 2) curatorship (the voters themselves are being rewarded for making sure that the website maintains the high level of its content), and 3) community building. Following the launch, the bitcointalk community had an opportunity to test the code for a few days. This was followed by a relaunch, and mining STEEM began. Even in pictures, viewers can see streaks of white bird droppings that drip down the edges, giving the formation the name Hvitserkur, which means white shirt.\n\n                   Antelope Canyon, United States\n\nThe Antelope Canyon is both the most visited and most photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. One glance at the smooth, orange-red walls and it’s easy to see why. This canyon was formed by flash flooding and other subaerial processes that eroded the sandstone.\n\nAs the rains continue (in 2006, a flood lasted for more than 36 hours) the canyon’s landscape slowly forges on in its topical transformation. While scientists are unsure of when people discovered the cave, local Navajos claim that the surreal canyon has been part of their cultural heritage for ages.\n\n                     Plitvice Lakes, Croatia               \n\nFounded in 1949, Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest national park in southeast Europe, as well as Croatia’s largest national park. Like other surreal places, the site has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. These days, more than one million visitors flock to the gorgeous park, drawn by its spectacular waterfalls, caves and lakes.\n\nThe area is home to more than 100 bird species that live in the beech and fir tree-filled forest. As if the area couldn’t get any more beautiful, the entire landscape transforms during winter, when the waters freeze and turn winter white.\n\n                      Jiuzhaigou Valley, China\n\nFound in Nanping County just north of Chengdu City, the Jiuhaigou Valley is touted as a holy mountain and watercourse by local Tibetan people. Within its 230 square mile area, Jiuzhaigou Valley contains an impressive array of fantastical forests, serene lakes and breathtaking waterfalls. The land is home to over 2,576 higher plant species.\n\n               Skaftafeli, Iceland\n   \nThe caves at the edge of Iceland’s Svinafellsjokull glacier were formed by highly pressurized glacier ice that contains few air bubbles. Without air, the cave’s ice absorbs all colors but blue, which is refracted and visible to onlookers after rain removes the ice’s surface layer. People can access the cave through a 22-foot entrance that funnels down to a limited, 4-foot opening. Since glaciers are highly active, one can hear loud cracks and groans created by the shifting ice.",
