| title | Monologue 3 - The Importance of Exercise |
| body | # You Already Know Exercise is Important It's funny, we all know that a good diet and exercise are the keys to living a healthy life. But for some reason, actually executing on that concept is so hard. Now, I've never really struggled with getting regular exercise. For me, it's always been about not eating a bunch of crap after getting a killer workout in. Even today, I find myself falling flat on my face in terms of healthy eating. I'll be doing amazing for months, and then BAM. After-dinner Sonic runs become a daily thing. ## Healthy Living is a Constant Battle Towards a Better Life One reason I love exercising and (for the most part) maintaining a healthy diet is because it makes me more present at work, in my personal life, and as an all-around human. When my body doesn't feel strong, my mind begins to feel less sharp as well. My overall disciple declines dramatically, and I become all around less motivated. That is probably an extreme reaction unique to me, but I do know that other people have spoken of exercise relating to a clear mind as well. After all, isn't there an age old saying that, "a healthy body equals a healthy mind?" ### Taking Health & Fitness Seriously Since I got my membership to 24 hour fitness, I've been taking health and fitness much more seriously. Since then, I've noticed that I am much happier overall. One thing I have noticed though is that after a strenuous workout, I struggle to wake up the next morning. Waking up early has never been a strength of mine, but it's even more difficult to drag myself out of bed when I do a difficult workout the day before. Not sure if this has something to do with my recovery period, or if I'm just simply over working myself. |

| title | Monologue 2: Finding A Purpose |
| body | # Don't Do it For the Money Almost every truly successful person in the world shares one thing in common: they did what made them special for a purpose or cause, not for money. And yet, 3/4 of the globe does what they do on a daily basis in order to earn enough money to support their families. That's not a bad thing; it just means that most of our global population's effort is focused on scraping by, rather than solving the important problems of the time. ## I Admit: I Was Doing it For the Money It's pretty difficult to embark on any entrepreneurial mission without having to focus on money. After all, things like cash flow, cash burn rate, and cash on hand can truly make or break your business. But money shouldn't be the *reason* for a company's existence. I truly believe that to my core. And yet, for a long time, I struggled to find a deeper purpose behind the business I was running. When I launched (and shortly after, closed down) my first company, I knew deep down that I was operating with no true "why." Only two days after closing my first company, I fell into the "reselling" industry, where I use e-commerce platforms to sell pre-owned, brand-name textiles. This time, I had a different feeling start to emerge deep down. I *knew* it was the industry for me, but I didn't know why. I had never really been very into fashion, and I had never really had enough money to afford a large enough wardrobe to be considered "stylish." And yet, I felt called to be in this industry. ### Finding My Purpose Last night, I sat watching Leonardo DiCaprio's and National Geographic's new movie, "Before the Flood." If you haven't watched it yet, you should. It's an incredible documentary highlighting the current state of the planet, and how critical it is for action to happen now. My eyes were glued to the television as I watched Leo travel from one part of the world to another, only to discover immense environmental devastation. And then, I remembered a statistic I had read only recently: >The fashion industry is the SECOND >largest environmental contaminator in the world. Although the statistic only flashed through my mind for a moment, I was stunned. It couldn't be more obvious to me - my calling in life - the reason I was put on this planet - is to stop the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, and create a shift to *already crafted* textiles. It's an enormous goal. Impossible, most would say. But they also say that if your goals don't scare you, then they aren't big enough. ;) |

| body | Alright Steem fam, Today's post is a little depressing, and I apologize in advance if you're looking for an uplifting / motivational / oo-ra topic. This isn't it. # The Loss of A Friend Yesterday, I learned about the passing of a high-school friend. For the sake of this post, we'll call him DG. Although we weren't close, we shared mutual friends with whom I *was* very close with. DG was 26. He was coaching high school football. He had recently fallen in love with the girl of his dreams, and they were head over heels for each other. He had enormous potential and a promising future. **But sometimes, God's plan is not our own.** And just like that, he is gone. There's no getting him back, no way to plead for a different ending. The finality of death can be shocking. ## God's Wake Up Call Seven years ago, my on and off boyfriend of three years was murdered. His name was Dylan, and he was 19. I was devastated. Numb. In Shock. And as overwhelmingly hurt as I was by my own personal loss, watching the grief of his parents doubled the heartbreak. Understanding tragedy until you've witnessed a parent who has lost their child. It was the biggest wake up call I had ever had in my life. It showed me how very mortal we all are, and how quickly life can be snatched from us. But it was through that experience that I learned that there are different ways of coping with grief. I watched as the people I knew turned to drugs, alcohol, and isolation. Meanwhile, I did the only thing that has ever helped to clear my mind. I retreated to the mountains. During the course of the next year, I did a tremendous amount of camping, fishing, hiking, and snowboarding. I tried to squeeze as much out of life as I could. Initially, it was to put my feelings into something constructive rather than destructive. But on a deeper level, it was because I had become obsessed with wanting to make the most out of my life. Fast forward seven years to today, and the death of DG is just another wake up call. The clock is ticking. ### Tick, Tick. None of us know how much time we have left. We have no idea how much time we have to make a difference in the lives of others, or to finally accomplish our goals. It could be another forty years, forty days, forty hours. There's no knowing. After losing someone close to me, I've found that the the sound of that clock ticking away has become much louder. "Make every second count." It says. "Every day is a blessing." But **you don't need to lose someone close to you to learn that lesson.** Don't wait until someone you love is gone to start making the most out of your life. Be kind. Give. Explore. Be adventurous. Push yourself to be the person you want to be. You never know how much time is left on your clock. Stay awesome, Steemers. -Angela |

| title | Learning From Failure |
| body | # Admitting Failure Well Steemians, I failed. I set out to read 2 books last week, but because I didn't manage my time well enough AND picked a 600 page book, that challenge didn't go as planned. ## What Happened As I mentioned earlier, I didn't manage my time well enough this week. I *should* have carved out about 2 hours per day to read, but as I tried to bring our sales numbers up, maintain my gym routine, and live like a normal human being, those 2 hours per day was whittled down to almost 30 minutes per day. Needless to say, 30 minutes per day isn't enough to plow through a 600 page book. ### Live and Learn I love failure. It molds me. I do everything I can to learn from things I didn't achieve. So this week, I've learned that carving out 2 hours of strict reading time is absolutely crucial to maintain my reading goals. Now, it just comes down to having the wisdom to execute on that knowledge. #### Moving Forward Never let failure deter you from your goals, for it is likely the most crucial part of your journey to success. This week, I'm taking what I've realized about carefully managing my time and applying it. This week, *I **will*** meet my goal of finishing two books in seven days. Wish me luck! -Angela |

| title | Dialog 2 - Time Management is a Bitch |
| body | .jpg) # No matter what you do in life, time management is crucial. Alright, Steemians, My goal for this year is to read two books per week. Of course, I decided to start this resolution off with the biggest f*ing book I could find, "Marketing Management" by Kotler and Keller. It's 600 pages long. Enough said. So, as I embark on this literary journey, I'm realizing how important tight-knit time management is for accomplishing my goal. Because honestly, three days into my new year challenge, I'm behind. But that doesn't mean I'll give up on my commitment. As I reflected on my immediate failure, it seemed that time management is key for accomplishing *any* new goal in life. Let's look at a few quotes from some of the world's greatest people, all who have stated that managing time wisely was a high priority for them. ## Great Quotes on Time Management "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst." - William Penn "The key is not in spending time, but in investing it." Stephen R. Covey "Efficiency is doing things right, effectiveness is doing the right things." - Peter Drucker "Lost time is never found again." Benjamin Franklin "Procrastination is the foundation of all disasters." Pandora Poikilos "Time is the scarcest recourse; and unless it is managed, nothing else can be managed." Peter Drucker #### Focusing on Using Time Wisely I thought I was decent at managing my time before, but trying to add 3+ hours of reading into my schedule on top of everything else has made me realize how much I have to improve. But isn't that entrepreneurship? It constantly pushes your buttons and forces you to improve. So, I'll be moving forward this year with the intention of using my time more wisely in order to achieve all the other goals I have for myself. Keep rocking, Steemians! |

| title | My First Read of 2018 -It's A Whopper! |
| body | # Starting my 2018 "100 Book Challenge" With... I told myself I would never read a textbook for fun. But here I am, at the start of 2018, picking up ***"Marketing Management, the 13th ed." by Philip Kotler and Kevin Keller.*** To put this whopper into context, it's *661 pages long* (excluding the appendix). Thankfully, those 600+ pages outline a variety of incredibly interesting business and marketing information, complete with illustrative graphs and charts. ## Why Read a Textbook? I didn't really go to college. I came a few credits short of completing my AA degree before realizing that college just wasn't for me. Controversial, I know, but that conversation is for a different day. That said, today I feel the need to educate myself in the subjects that I feel are most relevant to my career. I do this through reading, studying online courses, and discussing my trade with other people in my industry. And reading textbooks like "Marketing Management" is just one way to add to my knowledge about business and marketing. ## Time to Dive In It's easy to *say* that you're going to read a 600+ page textbook. It's much different to actually do that. So, I guess it's time to get busy and dive into this book. Wish me luck! If you're interested, I'll post my review on this book at the end of next week. Thanks for reading!! -Angela |

| title | A Challenge to Read 100 Books in 2018 |
| body | .jpg) # Everyone Should Have A Reading Habit Books are magical. They allow people to learn a new subject, explore a new idea, or travel back in time - all from the comfort of their own home. Reading is something (I believe) every person should do on an ongoing basis. But let's face it: most of us rarely read as often as we should. Between work, family, and recreation, it's almost impossible to "find" time - you truly have to intentionally carve time out. In fact, according to the Pew Research Center, about 72% of Americans only read one book per year. # Coming Clean It's time to spill the beans. I watch too much TV. Netflix and I have gotten along *far* too well for much too long. I've investigated with the Pinkertons, fought crime with Detective Longmire, and rooted on Barry Allen as he transformed into the clash. None of which got me one step closer to my goal of growing a successful business. And so, as Jim Rohn said, "For things to change, you have to change." I've been inspired to pick new challenges for the New Year. Since I've been too focused on TV lately, **I'm deciding that for 2018, I'll be transforming my TV habit into a reading habit.** ***My goal is to read 100 books by the end of 2018.*** This means I'll have to read about two books per week to stay on course. ### Why Read 100 Books in a Year? https://steemitimages.com/DQmeyfXx7StoLdhfUX4Z3a2oVtS8hunK9J8Mz8axw8ZeRAw/book-2160539_1920.png More than anything, I'm looking forward to what I'll learn and the way reading more often will transform the way I think. But don't take it from me. Here are a few other good reasons to read from scientists and other professionals: **1) Reading regularly and slow (or prevent) the onset of memory loss. (Via ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117588&page=1#.UZZr0Cv703Y)** **2) Self-help books have been linked to reducing depression. (Find the study here: http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0052735)** **3) Reading is an excellent way to improve your vocabulary; according to studies, people with larger vocabularies tend to be more successful in their career when compared to people with smaller vocabularies. (Read more about that here: https://blog.elevateapp.com/why-a-substantial-vocabulary-is-important-68b8f2cfe7e7)** **4) Reading decreases stress and increases self esteem. They allow people to learn a new subject, explore a new idea, or travel back in time - all from the comfort of their own home.\n\nReading is something (I believe) every person should do on an ongoing basis. \n\nBut let's face it: most of us rarely read as often as we should. Between work, family, and recreation, it's almost impossible to \"find\" time - you truly have to intentionally carve time out. \n\nIn fact, according to the Pew Research Center, about 72% of Americans only read one book per year. \n\n# Coming Clean\n\n\n\nIt's time to spill the beans.\n\nI watch too much TV. Netflix and I have gotten along *far* too well for much too long. I've investigated with the Pinkertons, fought crime with Detective Longmire, and rooted on Barry Allen as he transformed into the clash. \n\nNone of which got me one step closer to my goal of growing a successful business.\n\nAnd so, as Jim Rohn said, \n\n\"For things to change, you have to change.\" \n\n\n\nI've been inspired to pick new challenges for the New Year. | title | Brian Chesky: "The Difference Between Being an Entrepreneur and Unemployed is your Mindset" |
| body | https://youtu.be/W608u6sBFpo Brian Chesky, co-founder of AirB&B # Brian Chesky's Truth If you're an entrepreneur, you probably know who Brian Chesky is. If you don't, he's one of the co-founders of AirB&B. If you don't know what AirB&B is, it's time to get out from under the rock. Anyway, back to Brian. In the speech below, he talks about the start up phase of AirB&B and the challenges that come with it. One of my favorite lines from the video is: **"That's when I learned that the difference between being an entrepreneur and unemployed is just a difference in mindset."** I couldn't agree more. ## Why It's Truth Starting out as an entrepreneur is no walk in the park. In most cases - and mine particularly - you're starting out without enough capital, experience, and understanding. As a result, during the first year (or two), it's almost guaranteed that you will fail. And wind up (almost) broke. **And if you're working from home, only making enough money to cover basic expenses, and aren't getting substantial results, most people see you as unemployed or lazy - not an entrepreneur.** To everyone else, you're unemployed. But in your mind's eye, you're an entrepreneur. The only thing that will really determine who is right... is whether you give up or not. |

| title | Using Steem to Document My Business Journey |
| body | # The Push Life as an entrepreneur is **full** of ups and downs. And when you're starting out, it can feel like there's WAY more downs than ups. **But you keep pushing** Because deep down, you know it's your destiny to build a business that changes lives. At least, that's how *I* feel. ^^*That's me 6 months into my first business* ## My Background I've been self-employed for almost two full years now. When I started out, it was to build an online content agency. I had no idea what I was doing as a business owner, and my lack of experience showed. Quickly. 12 months after our launch, the company failed due to cash flow issues. I could have thrown in the towel. I could have looked at myself in the mirror and said, "that's it. I'm done with this 'live your dream' bullshit. I'm getting a job." But I didn't. ### Refusal and Realization After being self employed for the better part of 2 years, I knew in my soul that entrepreneurship is my calling. I knew that if I ignored my vision of building a company that could positively impact the lives of others, I would never forgive myself. So I **refused** to give up. I **refused** to let the challenges of life stop me from achieving my dreams. I focused on the great words of Les Brown: "it's not over, until I win." But after losing my first business, it was time to get real with myself. I had to accept that I failed because *I wasn't good enough yet.* I wasn't good enough as a business owner, employer, visionary, or leader. I didn't have a strong enough understanding about cash flow, sales projections, and business expenses. I had to accept that for things to change, I had to change. #### Moving on to Today Today, I'm in the process of launching [LoveThrift](https://lovethrift.com) - an online thrift store that makes self expression through clothing more affordable for the every day person. And I'm more focused than ever on processes, financial reporting, and improving sales without compromising inventory quality. But as I go about building that business, I realized I need an outlet - some way to share my experiences, celebrate my successes, and analyze (and overcome) my failures. I don't know why, but Seemit just felt like the right place to create that outlet. So, as of today, I'll be releasing weekly content about the ups and downs of my life as an entrepreneur - and if my journey is an inspiration to just one other person, not necessarily to be an entrepreneur, but simply to go after their dreams regardless of the apparent difficulty, then I'll consider myself successful. I hope you all join me on my journey. :) |

"body": "# The Push\n\n\nLife as an entrepreneur is **full** of ups and downs.\n\nAnd when you're starting out, it can feel like there's WAY more downs than ups. \n\n**But you keep pushing** \n\nBecause deep down, \n\nyou know it's your destiny to build a business that changes lives. \n\nAt least, that's how *I* feel. \n\n\n\n\n^^*That's me 6 months into my first business*\n\n\n## My Background\n\nI've been self-employed for almost two full years now. \n\nWhen I started out, it was to build an online content agency. I had no idea what I was doing as a business owner, and my lack of experience showed. Quickly. \n\n12 months after our launch, the company failed due to cash flow issues.\n\nI could have thrown in the towel. I could have looked at myself in the mirror and said, \"that's it. I'm done with this 'live your dream' bullshit. I'm getting a job.\" \n\nBut I didn't. \n\n### Refusal and Realization\n\nAfter being self employed for the better part of 2 years, I knew in my soul that entrepreneurship is my calling. \n\nI knew that if I ignored my vision of building a company that could positively impact the lives of others, \n\nI would never forgive myself. \n\nSo I **refused** to give up. \n\nI **refused** to let the challenges of life stop me from achieving my dreams. \n\nI focused on the great words of Les Brown: \"it's not over, until I win.\" \n\n\n\nBut after losing my first business, it was time to get real with myself. \n\nI had to accept that I failed because *I wasn't good enough yet.* \n\nI wasn't good enough as a business owner, employer, visionary, or leader. \n\nI didn't have a strong enough understanding about cash flow, sales projections, and business expenses.\n\nI had to accept that for things to change, I had to change. \n\n#### Moving on to Today\n\n\nToday, I'm in the process of launching [LoveThrift](https://lovethrift.com) - an online thrift store that makes self expression through clothing more affordable for the every day person.\n\nAnd I'm more focused than ever on processes, financial reporting, and improving sales without compromising inventory quality. \n\n\nBut as I go about building that business, \n\nI realized I need an outlet - some way to share my experiences, celebrate my successes, and analyze (and overcome) my failures. \n\n\nI don't know why, but Seemit just felt like the right place to create that outlet. \n\n\nSo, as of today, I'll be releasing weekly content about the ups and downs of my life as an entrepreneur - \n\n\nand if my journey is an inspiration to just one other person, \n\nnot necessarily to be an entrepreneur, but simply to go after their dreams regardless of the apparent difficulty, \n\nthen I'll consider myself successful. \n\n\nI hope you all join me on my journey. :)",
