titleClaim Hex with Ledger
bodyFirst off, I’m not that technical of a guy. I just tinkered for several hours until I got this to work. I used this process for 3 bitcoin addresses I have on ledger and it worked each time. If this helps you then help me by using my link to claim your hex, you get an extra 10% bonus I also get a bonus we all win. Ok here goes my process. You will need your ledger of course, a text editor and the old ledger wallet bitcoin chrome extension. The new ledger live app does not have a function to sign transactions. If you don’t have this extension already installed it won’t work. I didn’t find it on the chrome store anymore even when using the ID number. I did however see some shady ledger extensions on the chrome store with misspelled words. Please don’t use any of those unless you like losing money. If you don’t have an old ledger wallet bitcoin chrome extension you may need to download the electrum wallet and follow similar steps. FYI at this point I do not recommend buying any hex with Eth but you should free claim if you can. You never know what the future holds. Step 1: Open the ledger wallet bitcoin extension app and connect your ledger. (Sometimes I had to exit and re-enter the bitcoin app on my physical ledger a couple of times to get the app to connect). You will be asked to choose bitcoin or bitcoin cash. Choose bitcoin of course then choose segwit. Step 2: Click on the bitcoin account you want to claim then click on see all operations. Depending on how active your account is you may have several operations listed. Step 3: Click on an operation to pull up the operation detail. At this point make sure your text editor is open. You will now see the “From” and “To” sections. Highlight all of the “To” addresses copy and paste them into the text editor. You may only have one address or you may have Multiple. DELETE all addresses that do not begin with a 3. Step 4: If you had multiple “To” addresses under your operation detail, now comes the time consuming part. Click on settings, then tools, then sign message. Click on address under sign message. Now in the search field copy and paste an address from your text editor list into the search field. If it’s an invalid address it should say “No results match”. Delete that address from your list and repeat the process with another address until you find an address that returns a match. (One of my accounts had 87 address. It took 10-15 mins, not to bad, but still annoying. If anyone has a better process please share to help others out.) Step 4: Shameless shill….. use my link which will take you to hex.win. Then click on the link go.hex.winn. Click the claim tab. Enter the valid bitcoin address from your text editor list into the bitcoin address field then click claim this address. Step 5: Click the copy icon to copy the message under the “please sign this message with your Bitcoin address” field. Go back to sign message in your ledger wallet bitcoin chrome extension. Make sure you have the valid address you found selected and then paste the message in the message box and click sign. Confirm sign message on your ledger device. Step 6: Highlight and Copy everything between ----BEGIN SIGNATURE---- and ---END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE---. Then paste this into the signature field on go.hex claim page and submit. Congratulations you’re done. Tip: If for some reason you run into an error message in the ledger wallet bitcoin app. Make sure your nano ledger is unlocked. You many need to exit the app on ledger then re-open it or even close app extension and disconnect ledger and reopen everything. This happened to me and it worked. bodyI think this is a possible approach that could be explored. Blockchain is still early and everything is really still an experiment. I still believe having a voter account that could cryptographically verify a user that then could be linked to multiple accounts or just one account but only having one vote is something that should be explored if not on a main chain then a side chain. One person one vote in my humble opinion is still the strongest governance model we have. I gives people hope that their voice matters. The name of the game now is mass adoption and as more people join crypto and eos and the price of eos increases (hopefully) most new comers will not be able to own as many tokens as early adopters, but they still want to have a voice and feel like their vote makes a difference. Crypto has a hard enough barrier to entry adding fancy algorithms on top for a simple task such as voting is just a turn off. Everyone can understand one person/entity one vote, most of us has seen this used all our lives for many different reasons. Also the marketing behind this concept of being the most fair blockchain in crypto is priceless. If block producers are doing good work and keeping the community informed then people will vote for them.

"body": "I think this is a possible approach that could be explored. If block producers are doing good work and keeping the community informed then people will vote for them.",

titleEOS governance proposal
bodyGovernance in this blockchain space basically sucks. Every model whether it be proof of work, proof of stake, delegated proof of stake (dpos) all give more power to the few and less power to the masses. We have been saying scalability is the number one problem to fix as we transition into a phase for mass adoption but I believe the correct governance model will in the end win the majority of people. With many 1st world countries adopting a democratic governance model I believe this should also be the standard for blockchain one identity one vote. I will focus on the EOS blockchain and their dpos governance model. We are only one year in and it has been hijacked by block producer (bp) cartels. Blockchain technology wont make bad people good or greedy people generous but if we get the governance model right we can control it with a better equipped math based system. As a person living in a first world country I strongly believe that having the right to vote in a system in which my vote counts just as much as the next person is one of the greatest rights that needs to be defended. Men and Women from all walks of life have fought and died for this right and will continue to do so to preserve their freedom and the freedom of others. Although I think the current EOS governance is failing I think dpos has the best chance to get governance right and here is my idea. Please share comment let me know if you think this can work or why I’m completely wrong. Although every one hates KYC or some form of bio identifier I think it’s needed. I propose having a verified account voting system in which you can link one or multiple accounts to this verified voting account. This would mean you would need one verified account with just one EOS or even a fraction of EOS in it to be allowed to vote for bps and if you choose you could link all your other EOS accounts to this voter identified account or keep them anonymous, but regardless of if you have one account or 5 accounts linked you only get one vote. Now here is how we incentivize people to create this voter account, in my last post I mentioned getting rid of the 4% inflation rate in EOS maybe a hasty decision. We should use the 4% inflation to do an equal daily distribution of EOS to all verified voter accounts that have voted for bps or proxied their vote to someone else. Just my thoughts please let me know yours.

bodySo in one of my previous post I wrote I thought $5,000 would have been the bottom for bitcoin and I was wrong it was closer to $3,500 but I started to dollar cost average (DCA) around 4.5K and it has clearly worked out well. With the halvening less than a year away I will continue to DCA BTC but at this time my allocation will shit to 40% BTC and 60% ALTs. Now why put more in alts than BTC because everyone seems to be hyper focused on BTC at the moment so I will do the opposite. Institutions if they do show up aren't just interested in BTC they are interested in chains and dapps that will drive value. My main focus will be at the protocol level with a few possible dapps. The protocols I think have a good chance of making it in no particular order are Eth, Ada, Eos , Xlm and to a lesser degree Trx. I started out a fan of Eth and I still am. I think Eth will keep it leads at least for a year as long as it continues to deliver small continuous improvements but I don't see their grace period lasting much beyond this if other well know chains continue to evolve. Today strictly on fundamentals I think EOS is the best block-chain. Well let me rephrase that I'm not talking about the EOS mainet token per say but rather the entire EOSIO ecosystem. I think the EOS main net community was a little to hasty in burning the 4% interest and it could be a mistake to stop it all together. I feel a few loud voices drown out healthy contradictory thoughts. Contrary to today's popular crypto beliefs I think bitcoins max supply is a con rather than a pro and a controlled mathematical easy to understand yearly interest rate is a good thing, but even with that being said I think EOS has one of the better crypto communities. I’m looking forward to BEOS, Worbli, RUON https://ico.ruon.io/?ref=25a1ae3. I think June 1st will involve more sister chains news than mainet but we shall see. I also hope we get some news on identity and being able to switch to a system of one unique identity (even if they have multiple accounts) one vote. If that happens I’m supporting whatever chain that is.

titleWhen Will The Next Bull Market for Crypto Happen ?
bodyMy guess is between December and end of 1st quarter. I'm going to keep this short and sweet on what I think has been happening lately and what I think is happening going forward. I listened to countless people predict the next bull run looking at charts and government agencies and blah blah blah. Now my opinion is worth just as much or less than the professionals so if you read this take it with a grain of salt. I don't blog often but in my last post I said why I thought we were near the bottom for bitcoin and why it was a good time to dollar cost avg in. So far it's been working out great. Now I have a theory that I've had for the last several months and so far I think its playing out or at least I think so. I've heard lots YouTubers and other influencers say the United States needs to get on board or get left behind. Ok stop and think about this. Like it or not the United States is the world leader, its currency the global standard, and it has the most advanced military. They are lots of other issues outside of crypto that the world depends on the United States for and if you think the leaders of these countries are going to jeopardize their relationship with the US, because we (crypto enthusiast) think the US is moving to slow on policies on technology that is less than a decade old guess what they are not. These countries will wait patiently maybe making some small advancements in policy but many will not make any over arching policies that may cause a rift between them and the policies the US eventually sets. Remember this is a global phenomenon. Now many people will agree that we need regulation and this is what has slowed the crypto market with all of the uncertainty and I agree whole heartedly. It is this that led me to the following conclusion a few months ago. The United States are having mid term elections this November in which their entire legislative branch of government may change. If I was an institutional investor guess what I would be doing? Preparing but not investing. I would be waiting to see who are the new congress men and women before moving forward. It would be to high of a risk to move to aggressively with investments prematurely. Big players need time to lobby grease the wheels make their bribes and see how they can shape policy to best benefit them. Lets not be naive, crypto has become tainted and greed has set in. The alphas will eat first before the rest of the pack. What should you be doing during this time? My humble opinion is to dollar cost avg in projects you believe in. I think the worst has happen now we need to see who the players in this next round of crypto will be. On a side note start looking at game changing dapps also most of the protocols that will take us to the next level is already here and the scaling solutions will be solved very soon if not already remember timing is everything.

"body": "My guess is between December and end of 1st quarter. \n\nI don't blog often but in my last post I said why I thought we were near the bottom for bitcoin and why it was a good time to dollar cost avg in. So far it's been working out great. Now I have a theory that I've had for the last several months and so far I think its playing out or at least I think so. \n\nI've heard lots YouTubers and other influencers say the United States needs to get on board or get left behind. \n\nNow many people will agree that we need regulation and this is what has slowed the crypto market with all of the uncertainty and I agree whole heartedly. \n\nWhat should you be doing during this time? My humble opinion is to dollar cost avg in projects you believe in. bodyHouse Agriculture Committee meeting today on cryptocurrency revealed to me several things. The first is the sentiment around cryptocurrency is positive and bullish which it great. The next is that regulators are coming in and unfortunately I think the framework will benefit the already wealthy. The sense that I get is that the legal framework will be drafted in such a way that only accredited investors will be able to participate in ICO’s which will fall under the SEC under the false guise of protecting the average or retail investor and once it hits the regular exchange somehow the risk is gone and now retail investors can buy at a lower risk and it should be regulated as a commodity and not a security. My problem with this mindset is that the definition of an accredited investor will exclude probably 90% if not more of American citizens and in my opinion a lot of average people are actually more knowledgeable about this space than so called accredited investors. Let’s be honest this space is risky and the majority of us I assume realize this, and have decided to take these risk. When you lose money you will learn from your mistakes and become smarter I certainly did. The risk of buying a crypto asset post ICO in my opinion holds the same risk of going to zero as it did pre ICO especially if everything is still on a testnet, but the benefit has now been greatly reduced. So how is this beneficial to average retail investor? The answer is that is not beneficial at all so let’s stop pretending this is about general public protection rather than preservation of great financial opportunities for a select group. If we want to use the retail investor protection argument then I think we should add a few more stipulations if we truly are trying to protect the general public. I would add that all ICO participant coins/tokens should be frozen and non transferrable until a working product is available and audited not just a prototype. This would ensure retail investors significantly lower their risk of investing in pure scam projects and at the same time ensure “accredited investors” can’t just dump a hyped project on non-savvy investors for significant gains as soon as their lock up period ends, because quite frankly the same risk still exist if a project is still being built post ICO but is being traded on an exchange. Education is the great equalizer. I wholeheartedly believe that governments have an obligation to do their due diligence to protect its citizens and I also believe they have an obligation to make sure their citizens have access to great opportunities. Now whether an individual takes advantage of these opportunities is entirely up to them. I can get onboard with limiting ICOs to accredited investors but let’s have a conversation about redefining what an accredited investor is. If the whole premise of accredited investors are that they are more financially savvy then we can agree on lets increase the knowledge of a retail investor. My proposal would be that for a person that doesn’t currently meet the financial requirements of an accredited investor by the SEC. That the SEC create a registered course that can be done online or even at a university that the general public can register for and attend where they are thought about finances and risk and at the end of the course the should receive a certificate of participation which would allow them to also be classified as an “accredited investor”. If a person takes the initiative to do these things I think it’s safe to say they have evaluated their risk and now they should reap the benefits or consequences.

titleBitcoin Rally
bodyAt the beginning of this year I wrote about what I learned coming into the crypto space. I wrote about my mistake of going heavy on Eth because I thought the market was mature enough to stand alone from bitcoin and boy was I wrong. I liked bitcoin but I felt there was superior technology but my biggest hesitation was when the futures market was approved. I speculated the futures market was going to be bad for bitcoin and good for Eth and the other alts. Several months later I see I was 50 percent right the futures market was ripe with manipulation as I suspected it would be and it helped pull the market down although I don’t think this is the biggest reason for bear market maybe I will expand on that in another post. So early on in my crypto Journey I decided to exit the market to learn about it more so I don’t make the same mistakes and re enter at a good level. Opinions are like yesterdays everybody has one and I would like to share mine. This is not financial advice in any shape or fashion you would be ridiculous to read what I’m writing and base your investment strategy on this. So in my opinion drum roll please……..I believe now is a good time for me to re enter the markets. I believe the market will rally and it’s not because of the possible upcoming ETF although the CBOE’s ETF proposal can be a catalyst I believe there is a much bigger catalyst that I’m not sure anyone is talking about. The light bulb clicked for me watching Vitalik’s techcrunch interview. Everyone focused on his “centralized exchanges can burn in hell” comment but he revealed so much more. Vitalik mentioned Bitmain holds around 43% of bitcoins hash power and another entity ViaBTC holds another 10% so combined they could theoretically work together and cause a 51% attack. Now I don’t believe Bitmain would do this as they have too much at stake, but Bitcoin’s dominance is based on its reputation. Maintaining a reputation of being the most secure imputable digital ledger at this stage in bitcoin’s evolution is imperative. If any single entity or group of entities with close ties achieves the ability to control 51% of hash power then institutional investors will simply walk away from bitcoin and possibly crypto. These guys are experts at managing risk and at that point it becomes to risky. We need incentivized miners to properly secure the network. Now the avg cost to mine 1 bitcoin is around 5,000 with some countries already at a deficit. If this crypto winter continues miners who can’t whether the storm will turn their machines off thereby giving Bitmain who has the money to continue to mine, more hashing power which could eventually lead to 51% control of hash power by default. If this happens malicious intent or not Bitcoin’s claim to fame is over and gone with it the potential Billions if not Trillions of investment dollars. A lot of smart people understand this and I believe this is why so many people are confident in 25-60K bitcoin by the end of this year 2018. Bitcoin is the beast that needs to be fed in order to secure the network. Reputation in this space is everything and with billions already invested in bitcoin I don’t see Bitcoin maximalist and institutional investors letting Bitcoin go to $3000 because if Bitmain does achieve 51% and mainstream media gets ahold of this we could see bitcoin go back into the hundreds and never fully recover. The risk reward of driving this market further down in this manipulated market at this time has reached a pivotal time. If for some reason the price does keep dropping and miners stop mining and a 51% hash rate does occur at that point I think two scenarios can play out. The first and a very likely outcome is a crypto ice age the second is that another consensus algorithm becomes the golden child like proof of stake, delegated proof of stake, proof of reputation etc. and I’m willing to bet ETH would now rule the kingdom. Don’t get me wrong I love a lot of the protocol layer projects but in my opinion you have to be 50-100 times better than ETH to dethrone them. Their network effect is to large at this point. EOS is the only other real ETH threat I would consider and I believe it would take at least a year if not two for this to happen and by then sharding, casper, side chains and whatever else they have up their sleeves will be here. Network effect sometimes trumps technology. Anyway I went off on a little tangent. Well this is just my opinion and as for myself I will be dollar cost averaging weekly for now and if in August we do get good news from the SEC I will invest more aggressively until the ETF goes live. The ETF if approved will be enough to keep the momentum going until the years end and 20K maybe 30K bitcoin but it’s not the true catalyst I’m waiting for. Like I said I don’t think market manipulation is the biggest cause of this bear market but rather something else Vitalik tweeted about months ago and when this happens forget the moon we are going to another planet.

bodyI think this is a good strategy. A few months ago I really did not like bitcoin compared to other cryptos and like you I favor eth but I've only been in this space a short time. What I've learned is that the crypto market has not matured enough for alt coins/tokens to stand outside of bitcoins influence. Bitcoins fees and transaction times are a problem but I look at the transactions times like the connection speed to the internet back in the 90s when we waited a minute or two for dialup to get on. Now nobody thinks about it today we just pull out our phones or open our laptops and we are connected. In the same way I think all the coins/tokens will solve this transaction time issue in the next few years. Also this is a programmable asset which means it can evolve. If bitcoin updates it protocol to be able to conduct smart contracts then I think it's game over for many coins. I don't care how much greater the tech might be. Bitcoins adoption rate is far superior and it would take enormous efforts to take its users. The best tech doesn't always win. Apple is a perfect example of this. That's why you can never count bitcoin out because I think of what it can become not what it is now.

bodyNice article and reflection of your experiences. I agree with this part strongly, “I’ve gained in knowledge is much more valuable”. The whole experience you’ve described helps insulate you from future disasters. Better to get the pain out of the way quickly and early! Regarding offsetting gains for tax purposes, you mentioned this, “Even if that means buying back right away.” Are you familiar with the “Wash sale” rule? titleMy First Crypto Bear Market and what I've learned.
bodyI’m what a lot of seasoned crypto investors would call a noob. I made my first crypto purchase in September 2017 and started doing dollar cost averaging (DCA). My plan was to choose 5-10 good projects and continue to DCA through the end of 2017. I followed my plan and all was well. The second part of my plan was to find a top 5 coin I truly believed in and use this as my store of value. I would transfer a significant portion of my portfolio to that coin in the first part of 2018. I knew the gains wouldn’t be as great as some of the other newer blockchain 3.0 alt coins, but I figured this coin should at least hold its value and make some profits while I continue my research on how to diversify within the crypto space. In comes January and I put phase 2 of my plan into action. I sold positions in my traditional stock market portfolio to help build my crypto portfolio. I waited until 2018 because I didn’t want to pay the capital gains tax for 2017. I knew 2018 would bring more clarity on how US investors in the crypto space would be taxed and I wanted to use the whole year to create my tax strategy. This seemed like a good idea since we knew at the end of 2017 it was clear that trading between cryptos would be subject to taxation in 2018. My top two store of value coins I considered were bitcoin and ether. I choose to go with ether because it was faster and cheaper to transfer, strong dev community (which seemed to me more aligned on goals compared to bitcoin devs), the ethereum protocol was more functional and scaling the protocol seemed like a top priority. Most of all the bitcoin futures market scared the hell out of me. When people talked about an opportunity for institutional money I felt like it was an instrument for pure market manipulation and I wanted to stay away from this at least for now. What I didn't realize was how much bitcoin itself influences the entire market. Phase 2 was rolled out, ether was my store of value and all was good until we had a family emergency occur. So I decided to step away from crypto for a short while and focus on family. My entrance back into crypto was met with a sea of red. A Jason, Freddy and Michael Myers massacre blood bath. I knew crypto was volatile but it felt like my soul left my body. Not wanting to panic I told myself not to make any decisions on that day, but rather analyze the situation and take the best course of action. I decided I would HODL and as the days continued the blood ran greater in the streets. I went from a 24% loss to over a 50% loss. Emotionally I forced myself to detach, look at the bigger picture and form a strategy. It’s not a loss or a gain until you sell. So I’ve decided to sell. OMG sell and take such a big loss. Here goes another weak hand. YES I’m going to sell and here is why. When life gives you lemons make some delicious lemonade. By selling I will lock in my loses which I will use to offset the capital gains I made from selling my traditional stocks at the beginning of the year. Plus deduct up to $3,000 in loses and transfer any additional loses beyond $3,000 to the subsequent years if they’re any there. I then plan to buy back once I feel I have a buy signal. Even if that means buying back right away. I’m not leaving crypto, but strategically I think I have an opportunity, if you can call it that, to save some money in 2019 so I will take it. I believe in the concept of blockchain technology and its future. 2018 I believe is the year when innovation in this space will explode and the conspiracy theorist in me feels this was a well coordinated attack to drive the price lower for better price entry for certain individuals or entities. All in all this has been a great year for me. Although I’ve lost significant money, what I’ve gained in knowledge is much more valuable. I’ve gained better insight into this crypto space and how it works. Failure is the ultimate mentor for success. I keep a diary of lessons learned and investing principles specifically for crypto now, which I believe will continue to serve me in 2018 and beyond. Even if it takes the whole year I believe ether will reach its all time 2018 highs again. Here is what I’ve learned and my plans moving forward. 1.) I will revert to dollar cost averaging as my main strategic play 2.) If I make any bulk purchases again every entry point will have a corresponding loss exit point placed at the time of purchase to minimize my tolerable loss 3.) The only store of value I will personally recognize for now is USD; by keeping lots of cash on hand you have better buying opportunities in times like this. My main failure was assuming ether would hold its value relatively well compared to the other alts. So if ETH was down 10% and another coins were down 40% there would be a good buying opportunity, but when all are falling at the same rate the opportunity is very slim. 4.) The market is tied to bitcoin. This was my second mistake assuming that alts could stand outside of bitcoins influence. I’ve realized alts rise and fall when bitcoin does. Even the top 10 coins are subject to this so always analyze how bitcoin is trending and take this into consideration. I haven’t seen this market evolve into sectors yet; the only sector is bitcoin, at least this is how I see it. I have not been this excited about something in awhile as I am with decentralized ledger technology. This technology will change the world and I’m in for the long term. Remember money can be made and lost. Don’t lose yourself when investing in such a volatile market. I felt myself doing this so I’ve tweaked my plan, recorded my lessons and will continue to evolve with this space.
