On the shore, the dome cloistering the habitable zone seemed to eat up the light, strangely matte against the shining waves. The D.V. Ephemera swayed as it drifted downwards. \n\n“Two days,” Lyla grumbled, furiously polishing the last dirty spoon on the ship. “I want to be out of here in two days.”  Aishi laughed, pulling out a trunk from a low storage compartment. The box was out of place in the plain, efficient ship. Stars and swoops were carved into the polished mahogany. Aishi flipped the copper latches and pulled the top up. Inside, the walls revealed a neat line of compartments waiting to hide her treasures. She fished through the box, leaning over the edge and tossing through the pile of clothes inside.  \n\n“Calm down, Captain, it’s just an inspection. They do it all the time in this sector. Dock all the passing ships that aren’t big wigs. Look imposing, maybe get a little contraband from the dumb or the desperate. Meanwhile, we will be getting marvelously drunk and maybe stocking up on some goodies before we hit Bletus.” Aisha stood triumphant, stout leather boots held aloft as she kicked the trunk. With practiced ease, the lid shut, clasps snapping shut with a crisp click.  Lyla’s sigh was audible even across the ambient noise of the Ephemera.  \n\n“You mean you’re going to get thrown in jail again and I’m going to have to get you out. Again.” Lyla huffed and dropped the spoon into its holder with a pointed glare at her navigator.  \n\n“It’ll be fine. Really, you should let loose a little!” The ship interrupted them with a loud beep. In its customary polite-but-disappointed-teacher tone, it announced “Estimated five minutes until docking engaged.       "body": "Great post! Something that helps for me is to find someone else who's writing as a sounding  board. I can't count the number of times I've been in a middle of a tirade about how I couldn't come up with any ideas and had to then jot down said ideas I couldn't think of.\n\nKeeping a strong sense of community can be an aid, even if you tend to be more of a solitary writer. Having a critique group to share my frustrations with and keep me accountable is probably the biggest contributor to my actually getting past the creative anxiety.",

Ephemera grew tense for a moment before the captain snatched the photo away, shoving it into the trash. \n\n        \"Separate planets aren't far enough.\" Lyla pushed herself from the galley to the monitoring console around twenty feet before belting herself to the chair in front of it.  Aishi snorted into what passed for coffee on the  Ephemera.  Even the Ephemera itself, whose AI normally was wrapped up in its own archives, let out a tittering string of beeps.\n\n    \"Seriously? Isn't that a little mu-\"  \n\n    \"You didn't meet Ricky, alright? That man is a black hole, just eating away at me.\" Lyla interrupted. Her mouth pinched into a thin line for a moment, but her eyes kept flying over the flight calculations, fingers stabbing the display as needed. A normally quiet, calm person, Lyla's voice grew higher and higher pitched.  \"I even decided to visit my auntie in the old country. She lives out on Europa, real pretty out there. *'Oh, you knew my cousin Liz lived in the Sol system, baby.  It's okay that you still want me, but you have to say so, starshine,'*'\" she mocked, affecting a raspy voice. \"The nerve of that guy! I can't believe I wasted so much time on him.\"  \n\n    Aishi slid the lid to the unwashed goods container open and tucked her mug towards the bottom. She pushed over towards her friend and  grabbed Lyla's shoulder. A hand the color of rich earth contrasted with the pale jackets they wore almost constantly in transit to stay warm. \"I can't either, but really, giving up the cushy gig, buying a DV at auction? Isn't that letting him win?\"   \n\n    Lyla didn't answer, but the frown on her face smoothed a little, and she gestured towards the other strap-equipped chair in the room. Aishi sighed and grasped the strap, a sleek eel swimming through the air of the cabin. Their trajectory illuminated the screen. Aishi checked the ETA: 52.6 hours, with two transport gate hops. Lyla's strange mood became less important. What was a little grumpy captain compared to the glee of sweet, sweet acceleration-induced gravity after weeks of floating around the Ephemera?
