| title | The Future of Bitcoin is up to Millennials. |
| body | Imagine a world where the use of paper money is almost absent. Governments are no longer in control of all currencies. Sending money overseas does not take weeks to clear, and the associated fees are nonexistent. The central banks are no longer in control, and the citizens have complete control over their money, and everything is decentralized. That world is not too far away from now, but it still seems like a sci-fi movie. With the advent of cryptocurrencies, the story above is now possible. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are helping make our financial world a more efficient place. Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that no government has control over. The technology behind it is called blockchain, and it keeps a transaction ledger. Since 2009, cryptocurrencies have netted growth without being in the spotlight of being considered mainstream. In 10 years, cryptocurrencies will be mainstream because of money transfer convenience, millennials acceptance, and public figures support. Every year millions of people working abroad send their money back to their home country. Wire transfers are essential to their lives, but they come at a cost. In “Wire Transfers: What Banks Charge” (Tiernry, 2017) the average fee per outgoing international transfer is $44 ($25 for domestic) and incoming international transfer is $10 ($9 for domestic). In this age, everything is progressing at lightning speed, besides the financial institutions. Bitcoin can help these people send their money all over the world, practically free. The interactive chart on www.bitinfocharts.com continuously tracks the average cost for Bitcoin transactions. Currently, the transaction cost to send Bitcoin is $1.88. Once these people start adopting Bitcoin to transfer their money back to their home country, they would be potentially saving over $50 per transfer. When the wire transfers are conducted not only does the transferee have to deal with high fees they also have to allow 1-2 days for the money to be cleared and assessable on the 3rd day (transferwire.com). That is a problem, having the wire transfer held in limbo is an issue and an outdated process. Bitcoin takes minutes for the transaction to complete. Replacing wire transfers with cryptocurrencies not only saves time but also saves money. Millennials remember the difficult times during the crash in 2008. Finding a job was nearly impossible; they had to be frugal with their money. Now, millennials are going against the grain with how they view traditional money, saving more and using less credit. Cryptocurrencies are seen positively by millennials, and most cryptocurrency holders are millennials. Diana Crandall recently wrote an article for Forbes Magazine that researched why millennials viewed cryptocurrencies so positive, here is what one interviewee said: “All of my net worth is in cryptocurrencies because I see them as the best way to escalate my ability to be financially secure and pay off my student loans” … “I like the idea of decentralization, the fact that there’s a lot less corruption and political ties. That idea appeals to me … Not having to go through banks. Having financial control over our lives again.” (Meet The Millennials Saving For Retirement Using Bitcoin, 2017) That was only one millennials view. However, most millennials agree with him. According to the research reported in www.coindesk.com, the study concluded that “[Millennials] could be the driving force behind mainstream adoption of the digital currency in the future” … “32% [of millennials] said that they expect to use [digital currency] by 2020.” (Report: Millennials and the Wealthy Most Likely to Use Bitcoin, 2014). If millennials believe that cryptocurrencies have a store of value and use them more, it will become increasingly popular. The cryptocurrency industry has grown exponentially, and billionaires like Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, and John McAfee support the movement. Year to date industry growth has nearly been 800%. Some may argue that cryptocurrencies are in a bubble like Tulip Mania of the 1600s or the Dot-com crash of the late 1990s, but it is not. Less than 1% of the world’s population is aware of cryptocurrencies and a fraction of that amount own or trade them. People are using them as a hedge against inflation that is plaguing fiat currency. Wall Street just recently celebrated its 200th birthday with a market cap of 21 trillion; Bitcoin celebrated its 10th birthday with a market cap of 132 billion. Many roadblocks will be in the way towards mainstream adoption. Cryptocurrency growth will continue to peak peoples interest over the next few years and turn naysayers into believers. Media coverage will increase, and as more celebrities enter the realm, it will make it more appealing. Most of all people will continue to lose faith in their governments. Events like what is happening in Catalonia, Spain will continue to happen all over the world. When areas seek independence, cryptocurrencies will help them break away financially. Cryptocurrencies will become mainstream, and it is not about how, but when. Tierney, S. (2017, September 08). Wire Transfers: What Banks Charge. | body | This post will be short and sweet. I've encountered a ton of people being negative towards the Pillar Project (https://pillarproject.io/). This organization has been 100% transparent so far. The people that are spreading FUD are the ones that wanted to make a quick dime, and it did not work out for them. Out of every company I have invested in I have received more updates from Pillar on weekly bases than anyone else. If you have never heard about Pillar right now is an excellent time to get in for cheap (.05). The alt market, in general, is down a reasonable amount. I wanted to post something positive about them on Steemit; they deserve it. Please research them! Personally, I believe this will be one of the crypto companies that will be around for awhile. Here is their latest wallet update video: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xrP2e36-JJw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

| title | Millennials are dumb, but they will make Bitcoin successful. |
| body | Imagine a world where the use of paper money is almost absent. "body": "\n\nImagine a world where the use of paper money is almost absent. In 10 years, cryptocurrencies will be mainstream because of money transfer convenience, millennials acceptance, and public figures support.\n\nEvery year millions of people working abroad send their money back to their home country. Bitcoin takes minutes for the transaction to complete. | title | Government Regulates Rainwater (Research Paper) |
| body | When I was a child, I spent most of my time outdoors enjoying nature. My mother would always tell me to play outside and not come back in the house until the street lights came on. So naturally, I would explore all the land around. As I grew up, I started learning more ways to survive outdoors, whether it was building a shelter or making fish traps in the stream nearby. I also learned very quickly that your body needed clean water. Georgia heat in the summer could be brutal on your body. So, I started learning ways to catch rainwater so when I was down at my hut, I could have clean drinking water. Some years ago, I read a news article covering the collection of rainwater and how some state and/or local governments were putting bans on the practice. I found it crazy that it was possible to put a restriction on humans collecting rain. My mind began to reel. What does the government have to gain from this? What is the governments reasoning behind it? I do not have the answers now, but I do intend to find out “Why state and/or local governments pass regulations on the collection of rainwater.” I began my research by googling “water collection.” I figured this could help direct me in the right direction in answering my question. The article I found was from The Alternative Daily, “Rain Barrels Are Illegal in These States (Crazy Right?)”. I learned that the correct term is “water harvesting” and the reason why it is/was illegal is due to water scarcity in the American West. “Prior Appropriation” allows claimed water sources from hundreds of years ago to be passed down for generations. If you were caught water harvesting, it could land you jail time. If you diverted the natural flow of rainwater, it could be considered stealing from prior appropriated water sources. States like Texas, however, are at the forefront for making water harvesting legal for its citizens to help decrease the strain on public water works. Prior Appropriation began when “miners in Colorado experienced water shortages and developed a system to divide water based on a priority system”(Fox News, 2016). At this point, I did not know much about prior appropriation. The website www.ncsl.org was one of my most helpful internet sites I encountered during the research. It provided up to date laws on water harvesting. In 2016, Colorado passed a law that allows water collection for gardening and irrigation purposes. Rhode Island passed House Bill 7070 (2012) to provide tax credits for their citizens collecting 50 gallons or more of rainwater. At this point, my thought process was to investigate “Prior Appropriation, ” so maybe that could lead me to the “why” in my question. In the Encyclopedia of politics of the American West, by Steinberg (2013), it provided a wealth of knowledge about prior appropriation. It began when pioneers started homesteading the American West and during the gold rush. In those times, many conflicts amongst homesteaders and miners came from water sources. The West “lack[ed] of arable land [and] compete[d] for agricultural interests” (Steinberg, 2013). The government intervened by settling the disputes by dividing the water system based on “first in, first served” (pg.547-548). The next part of my research led me to the American South-East. I wanted to find out the differences between the West and East US regarding water harvesting. In Resources, Conservation & Recycling, I discovered North Carolina had a drought in 2007 that changed the citizen's water usage lifestyle. The studies documented results from three sites concluded that water harvesting, in the South-East, can be used to alleviate the burden on government water supply. Texas, created the Rainwater Harvesting Evaluation Committee (HB 2430) in 2005 to build recommendations on how to implement rainwater collection systems. California, being ground zero for the gold rush, I thought would have strict laws on water harvesting, but in 2012 Governor Brown passed the Rainwater Capture Act that allowed the population to gather water to minimize commercial water use. In the beginning, I was disgusted with how the government could restrict one of our natural personal liberties. Being raised in Ga, we never had issues where droughts were discussed. So, the thought that someone could go to jail for collecting rainwater seemed absurd. After hours of research, I started homing in on “Prior Appropriation,” which was the foundation of water harvesting laws. History, in general, is a passionate subject of mine. Absorbing everything I could about the subject turned me from being completely against government oversight on water harvesting to a neutral stance. The fact that the history dated back to when we were homesteading the West for the first time, and the California gold rush, led me to understand “why” these laws were in place. It was not a greedy government trying to keep us on a leash; it was to help alleviate territorial arguments for claimed water sources. This research project taught me about a subject I had little knowledge about but still had a strong opinion towards. It was a real eye-opener on how much as a society we have progressed. The only question I have after completing this paper is in general, how quickly will other states follow suit to pro-water harvesting and implement policies that allow for growth in water harvesting. This issue will only be answered in time, over many years. |
