      "body": "<html>\n<p>&nbsp;<img src=\"https://i.imgsafe.org/029d747e89.jpg\" width=\"1450\" height=\"968\"/></p>\n<p>I love&nbsp;all things cherry flavored: lollipops, sour candies, popsicles, and of course, soda! From what I gather from my friends and even random people I meet, artificial cherry flavor is not something people look upon with glee. I mean, there is a huge difference between artificial cherry and real cherries, but still, all cherry flavored things are delicious in my books!<br>\n <img src=\"https://i.imgsafe.org/029e1cf9dc.jpg\" width=\"1450\" height=\"968\"/></p>\n<p>&nbsp;I always get excited when cherry season rolls around. I’m partial to Bing cherries, not only because they’re one of the most common cherries in the Pacific Northwest, but also because they are the cherries we grew up picking.&nbsp;My parents would pack us (and a tent) in our&nbsp;minivan&nbsp;and we’d head to the interior of BC where the&nbsp;fruit orchards are. We’d pick a ton of fruit, camp, and live&nbsp;a nomadic fruit picker lifestyle, for a couple of days at least. It was the best!<br>\n<img src=\"https://i.imgsafe.org/02a7b0ee85.jpg\" width=\"1450\" height=\"968\"/>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;I haven’t picked fruit in a really long time, unless picking out fruit at the stands at the farmers markets counts? I’m hoping Mike and I will have a chance this year because if we do, I’m going to be picking pounds and pounds&nbsp;cherries. Mike wants to try making boozy homemade maraschino cherries and I want to make&nbsp;clafoutis and cherry sodas!<br>\n&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;These simple cherry sodas are just the ticket for a hot day. I added a generous amount of bourbon into Mike’s glass for a cherry bourbon smash and kept mine simple and extra cherry-ful. Ahh. Now you see what I am getting at. What you really want is the freedom that the money represents. What you really want is freedom.<br>\n&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>EveryoneWantsToMakeMoneyTradingtheDownside–SoWhyDon’tThey</h2>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Remember when everything was falling apart during the 2008/09 financial crisis? Stock and housing prices were falling off a cliff, and a lot of people felt like they got stuck holding the bag. I’m sure you thought something along the lines of, “Just let me catch some of this downside” – it may even have crossed your mind a few times – but you didn’t have the courage to execute.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>When the March 2009 low hit, you were frustrated because you knew you could have made some money. The stories seemed to be coming out left and right – this guy made millions, that other guy made millions, all because they shorted the market. Frustrating, wasn’t it? &nbsp;To the guys who traded the market to their advantage, it was crystal clear – they knew what they had to do. But for you, it wasn’t easy to see. In fact, when you’re stuck long, it’s hard to give up on those positions when the market is falling.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Contrarians LOVE trading against the masses – when the bus gets overloaded, it tends to tip over. My Real Money Pro colleague Doug Kass really loves trading against the crowd, and it’s no accident that he’s been in the game for so many years.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The idea of making money on the downside is intriguing, because it is so rare, difficult and elusive to do. When I managed pension funds at Sunkist back in the late 90’s, I had four very talented managers who were mandated strictly to net short. I used them to offset the volatility of the long managers I had in the fund, and it worked out beautifully. Imagine how difficult that was when it seemed like the markets were rising everyday. Yet, they actually made money short in a bull market.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Why is trading the bear side so hard? &nbsp;Simple: The long-term trend for the stock market is up – it always has been. While there are short and sweet bearish moves, the biggest money is made by being long. As a result, we all have a mental block when it comes to being bearish. Oh sure, we might want to do it, but we hesitate and then do nothing. When we’re bearish, we are going against the crowd, and who wants to lose if the rest of the crowd is winning? I have found that being bearish requires being wrong for much longer than you are right. Can you handle that pain until you get paid off? (There are times when it’s smart to go short, like when the Fed has a hawkish bias, but that’s a whole other blog post!)</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>I started school at San Diego State in fall 1987, about six weeks before the big crash occurred. I was fascinated by the entire event. The fallout and eventual comeback of stocks intrigued me enough to pursue a career in managing funds in financial markets. The stories of those who made millions during the quick and painful downturn were stunning. I wanted to learn what they did so I would be prepared if something like this occurred again.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>Money: Why Isn’t Everyone a Millionaire? Why Do Lottery Winners Go Broke?</h2>\n<p>&nbsp;Abundance is everywhere.&nbsp; &nbsp;Just like love, I suspect you may not be seeing the signs because your attention and beliefs keep it at bay. Let me explain.Contrary to what you may believe, everyone does not want the same things as you.&nbsp; Hard to believe isn’t it?&nbsp; Yet, if you really look around you, you know it’s true. If you don’t know this is true, let me ask a few questions.&nbsp; Are you a Bronie?&nbsp; Do you love stamp or coin collecting? Do you love camping? Do you believe you should wait for marriage before having sex? Please note that whatever your answer may be to the above questions, there are others who would answer yes to your no, and no to your yes.&nbsp;When it comes to money, the majority of people think that everyone thinks like them.&nbsp; I mean, really, doesn’t everyone WANT to have money?&nbsp; Doesn’t everyone want to be like Bill Gates, Oprah, or Warren Buffett? Doesn’t everyone want Lucky Brand jeans, a red Ferrari, a personal airplane, a 6 car garage with an assortment of vehicles? The reality is NO.&nbsp; We each have a cap on what we think is “reasonable” or within the realms of our self imposed “worth.”For many people, getting hired for the first time is a huge deal and any pay seems like a gift.&nbsp; Do you remember the jitters of the first day on the job?&nbsp; Wondering if you could do what they required? No matter what job we get next, it is usually in comparison to the job we have or had and therefore the expectation is “within reason.”&nbsp; “Within reason” usually means a standard increase of 2%- 5%.&nbsp; Let’s put that in numbers.&nbsp; If you made a minimum wage of $9.00/hr and worked 40 hours a week, every week for a year, no time off, &nbsp;you would make $18,720.00/year.&nbsp; A 2% increase would be $0.18 an hour, equaling&nbsp; $374.40 a year extra.&nbsp; Under these circumstances, what would be deemed “reasonable” as an increase?Let’s consider that there are others who get a college education and feel worthy of more money.&nbsp; Perhaps they start out at $19.24/hr, or $40,019.20/year. The 2% increase would be 0.38/hour,&nbsp; or $800.38/year, which would bring the hourly rate to $19.62/hour.&nbsp;&nbsp; Is that too much to ask?&nbsp; What would be “reasonable” to expect? A 5% raise? More?I posit that the vast majority of the world feels a 10%, and gasp if you will, a 20% increase from where they currently are, is a sum that seems unattainable and out of their immediate vision zone.&nbsp; My point is that much depends on where you start from and really depends on your beliefs about money and what you feel you are worthy of. The operative term is <em><strong>feel</strong></em>. Let me clarify this worthiness point.&nbsp; Worthiness has a value base attached to it.&nbsp; Are you worthy of making $10/hr.? $100/hr.?&nbsp; $1000/hr.?&nbsp; What’s your limit?&nbsp; How much is too much?&nbsp; How much is too little?       "body": "<html>\n<p><img src=\"https://i.imgsafe.org/db6011442b.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"/></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;The great Jakob Grimm, the founder of comparative philology, hazarded the guess more than three-quarters of a century ago that English would one day become the chief language of the world, and perhaps crowd out several of the then principal idioms altogether. “In wealth, wisdom and strict economy,” he said, “none of the other living languages can vie with it.” At that time the guess was bold, for English was still in fifth place, with not only French and German ahead of it, but also Spanish and Russian. In 1801, according to Michael George Mulhall, the relative standing of the five, in the number of persons using them, was as follows:&nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;French.....................31,450,000</p>\n<p>Russian.....................30,770,000</p>\n<p>German.....................30,320,000</p>\n<p>Spanish.....................26,190,000</p>\n<p>English.....................20,520,000 <a href=\"http://www.bartleby.com/185/54.html#note1\">1</a> &nbsp;</p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The population of the United States was then but little more than 5,000,000, but in twenty years it had nearly doubled, and thereafter it increased steadily and enormously, and by 1860 it was greater than that of the United Kingdom. Since that time the majority of English-speaking persons in the world have lived on this side of the water; today there are nearly three times as many as in the United Kingdom and nearly twice as many as in the whole British Empire. This enormous increase in the American population, beginning with the great immigrations of the 30’s and 40’s, quickly lifted English to fourth place among the languages, and then to third, to second and to first. When it took the lead the attention of philologists was actively directed to the matter, and in 1868 one of them, a German named Brackebusch, first seriously raised the question whether English was destined to obliterate certain of the older tongues. <a href=\"http://www.bartleby.com/185/54.html#note2\">2</a> Brackebusch decided against it on various philological grounds, none of them particularly sound. No other language spread to any such extent during the century. German made a fourfold gain, but that was just half the gain made by English. Russian, despite the vast extension of the Russian Empire during the century, barely more than tripled its users, and French barely doubled them. Perhaps all of the figures in the table are excessive; that is almost certainly true of German, and probably also true of English and French.
