And once he woke up he stayed awake.\n\nThe reason for him falling asleep was because the film was taking too long to get to the actual murder.  There was too much talking; talking that was without tension and talking that especially when Poirot was talking in audible, partly because of the accent and partly because of the moustache. \n\nA particular scene which went on for far too long, which was slowly taking me into dreamland, was the scene between Depp and Poirot.  I didn't really care what was being said, because of the aforementioned issues as well as the added factor that Depp was channeling a bit of Jack Sparrow, and whatever was being said could have been said much quicker.\n\nI hadn't read the book, so I didn't know the ending, but even if I had read the book it was worth watching because of some of the majestic shots of the middle eastern cities from times gone by.  Istanbul looked magical and tingled with a romanticism and nostalgia which made me wish that I could have experienced that first hand, but I cannot unless a time machine is created, and that most likely isn't going to be created.  \n\nJuxtaposing these glorious shots that take you back in time, were the shots of the train chugging along the train tracks through mountains, sometimes it looked great and sometimes it looked so very CGI and Polar Express lite.  Now, when the murder takes place, because I didn't really know the characters names, and because they didn't show the body I was unaware as to who exactly had been murdered. And the murder itself, takes place off camera, until the big reveal at the end, but it would have been better to show the eyes of the murdered losing the will to live.  The murdered came across less as a person and more as an object because as a viewer you never gained any connection to him.\n\nThe story did keep you guessing right till the end, throwing in red herrings and ensuring that the audience were always unclear as to which character or characters were the killers, though sometimes the red herrings didn't make sense, making you question if the red herrings are for us the audience or for the character Poirot. \n\nThe motivation of each character and a side story connecting the events on the Orient Express, were mechanically great but emotionally void.  The film itself lacked an emotional punch, until arguably the denouement and the lack of tension stopped you from being fully engaged with it.  \n\nPoirot, the TV version will always be the definitive Poirot,  for me at least, and though Brannagh does a great job, if there were more lighter scenes such as the giggling he does when reading Dickens, it would have been a more joyous performance.  \n\nAll the actors were great, especially Cat Woman, and the woman that was addicted to Barbitol and at the end of the movie you realise that the Poirot Universe has been put into motion, 'theres been a murder on the Nile!' now if they can get the emotional punch down and ratchet up the tension then they may have something marvellous, something that Agatha Christie would be proud of.  \n \n3/5",

turned my head and my brother in law was snoring, I nudged him, he woke up.   And once he woke up he stayed awake.\n\nThe reason for him falling asleep was because the film was taking too long to get to the actual murder.  There was too much talking; talking that was without tension and talking that especially when Poirot was talking in audible, partly because of the accent and partly because of the moustache. \n\nA particular scene which went on for far too long, which was slowly taking me into dreamland, was the scene between Depp and Poirot.  I didn't really care what was being said, because of the aforementioned issues as well as the added factor that Depp was channeling a bit of Jack Sparrow, and whatever was being said could have been said much quicker.\n\nI hadn't read the book, so I didn't know the ending, but even if I had read the book it was worth watching because of some of the majestic shots of the middle eastern cities from times gone by.  Istanbul looked magical and tingled with a romanticism and nostalgia which made me wish that I could have experienced that first hand, but I cannot unless a time machine is created, and that most likely isn't going to be created.  \n\nJuxtaposing these glorious shots that take you back in time, were the shots of the train chugging along the train tracks through mountains, sometimes it looked great and sometimes it looked so very CGI and Polar Express lite.  Now, when the murder takes place, because I didn't really know the characters names, and because they didn't show the body I was unaware as to who exactly had been murdered. And the murder itself, takes place off camera, until the big reveal at the end, but it would have been better to show the eyes of the murdered losing the will to live.  The murdered came across less as a person and more as an object because as a viewer you never gained any connection to him.\n\nThe story did keep you guessing right till the end, throwing in red herrings and ensuring that the audience were always unclear as to which character or characters were the killers, though sometimes the red herrings didn't make sense, making you question if the red herrings are for us the audience or for the character Poirot. \n\nThe motivation of each character and a side story connecting the events on the Orient Express, were mechanically great but emotionally void.  The film itself lacked an emotional punch, until arguably the denouement and the lack of tension stopped you from being fully engaged with it.  \n\nPoirot, the TV version will always be the definitive Poirot,  for me at least, and though Brannagh does a great job, if there were more lighter scenes such as the giggling he does when reading Dickens, it would have been a more joyous performance.  \n\nAll the actors were great, especially Cat Woman, and the woman that was addicted to Barbitol and at the end of the movie you realise that the Poirot Universe has been put into motion, 'theres been a murder on the Nile!' now if they can get the emotional punch down and ratchet up the tension then they may have something marvellous, something that Agatha Christie would be proud of.  \n \n3/5",

The trailer had a line, which encapsulates this ‘Nolan Time Shit’ as a friend of mine aptly termed it, ‘ One hour down there, is 7 years up here!’\n\nNow, from that one line in the films trailer I was able to create an entire film in my head.  My version of the film, revolved around the astronauts jumping down to a planet and racing to get what it was that they needed doing done, and doing it fast, because if they didn’t accomplish what they needed to do on X planet then, something bad would happen to the ship, like for example, the spaceship is slowly being drawn into the blackhole or the wormhole is collapsing.\n\nI really thought Nolan would come up with something more riveting than what I came up with, instead we got nothing.  We got Anne Hathaway being stupid, saying stupid things and literal nothingness happening. Cooper crying, because his kids are now as old as him, because Anne Hathaway kept him on the planet for four hours which is 24 years!  He should have left her and got on the ship and got out, to paraphrase Spock, ‘The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few,’ but Cooper didn’t heed that advice.  \n\nThere were instances when I thought how is that possible, for example, they blast off from Earth in a rocket, because the pull of gravity means you need a lot of Energy to get of this rock, however, when they’re all on the Water planet, they all get into their Star Trek escape pod and blast off, using a 1000 times less energy than when they blasted off from Earth even though the Water Planet had extreme gravity (1 hour = 7 years). Also, would they not have been crushed by the gravity of that planet?\n\nTowards the third act, there were scenes which were juxtaposed, and this juxtaposition had no point.  We had on one side, Jason Bourne fighting Dallas Buyers Club and on the other side we had Ben’s brother squabbling with Brad Pitt’s Tree of Life wife.  The music ramped up and the cutting between scenes became more and more apparent and all this was meant to make us feel that something important was happening - it wasn’t.\n\nI took my wife and my nephew to this film. My nephew was 8 years old and I thought I’ll take him to see this movie on Imax, it would be an amazing, perhaps even a memorable childhood experience.  However, the Imax Cinema in Trafford Centre, is only a little bigger than a normal cinema, and under no circumstance can it be defined as an Imax Cinema so he wasn’t impressed, in addition, throughout the movie, he kept turning to me and saying, ‘Nothing is happening!’ ‘This is boring!’ and I in turn, looked at my wife and said, ‘Nothing is happening!’ ‘This is boring!’ - She woke up and said is the movie finished. I said no, she went back to sleep again.\n\n3/5",

      "body": "It wasn't my intention to watch this, but as fate would have it, I ended up watching it.\n\nBefore going in, I knew the Rotten Tomatoes score,  I knew that despite this, it made a lot of money, and i also knew that two youtube film reviewers had two differing views on the movie. The question in my mind was, would I agree with Mr. Stuckman or would I agree with Mr. Jahns.  \n\nBefore the film started, I bought a burrito, this was what I was eating during the first 15 to 20 minutes of the film; if it wasn't for the burrito I probably would have fallen asleep.  Whenever, a film is about to start I create images in my mind, and wonder what the first sequence in the film will be like, and more often than not, my images are better.  Suicide Squad, my beginning sequences were, I don't now, a million, a billion times better.\n\nThe beginning of Suicide Squad had no tension, no momentum, even Man of Steels introduction  albeit way too long had, stakes, tension and was at the very least exciting, the same goes for Batman V Superman, but here, we are subjected to an obscene mixture of graphics, music, bad editing, voice over, flashback, flash forward, I came to watch a movie, I didn't come to grab myself a headache. \n\nThis movie, is full to the brim with flashbacks.  One or two, is fine, but if the entire narrative is dependant on flashbacks, someone needs to do some re-writing.   We have flashback of every character, multiple times and we are introduced to the characters multiple times. We are subjected to freeze frames and top trump style stats, such things as number of kills, weapons used, golf handicaps - this is just lazy writing, I presume this was supposed to be flash and cool,  but it came across as cheap and pointless.  For a moment, I thought I was watching Street Fighter,and to be honest i would rather have watched E.Honda, break buildings with his hands for 90 minutes than be in here.\n\nThe concept, just didn't mesh well with me, it could have, if say your villains were actually needed to complete the task at hand, they weren't needed. They could have asked Batman and he would have done it.  These villains were going up against a god type being and half of them didn't have any super powers; Captain Boomerang, Slipknot, Harley Quinn, Killercroc, Deadshot - what exactly did these guys bring to the table - Only diablo was worth anything and maybe Katana, but she was just trained in sword skills. \n\nAmanda Waller in her infinite wisdom, decided the best method in destroying two God like beings was with, boomerangs, guns, knives and baseball bats and teeth.  All they had to do to make this movie not only good but great, was lower the stakes. That's all.  Instead of two God Like Beings to defeat  - this crew of villain Misfits could have been hired to do something the good guys won't be able to do because, because it's against their moral character, like for example assassinating a good guy because he has information that can harm Waller and her cronies. \n\nInstead of saving a city and ultimately the world, Suicide Squad should have been about the destruction of moral character, the blurring of good and bad, the bad things good people do for the greater good... it could have been so much better.. and yes the Joker is in it, and no he has no actual relevance to the plot or story.",

      "body": "I saw this movie twice and I have no problem with watching it again and again, it has been a long time since I have seen a film that has given me that reaction.  Most of the films coming out nowadays, you watch once and you don't really want to watch it again, ever. \n\nEven though I have seen this movie twice, I have yet to see the very first frame, because I get there too late. If anything, this makes me want to watch it one more time in theatres so I can see the beginning.\n\nThe movie is a musical/action/romance - even though they don't break into dancing and singing, the music is always playing, whether through the earbuds, the radio or the cd player.  The characters may not have dance numbers but the way the camera moves around them and they around it, feels like you are watching them dance.\n\nThe 'baby' in the film is a guy that I have never seen in a movie before, so much so that I thought that the scars on his face were actual scars ( I never watched the divergent bullshit) Baby, is a likeable guy, calm, quiet and endearing and his baby face easily allows him to get our sympathy, even though he does actually murder two people, and is an accessory to so many others and robs off with a bumble bee mustang and takes the phone with him.  \n\nThe second time I watched it, I tried to listen to the sound, how he used it and what visuals he used to accompany the it, and what sticks out to me is the last robbery, the rain hitting he windscreen, the indicator ticking away and the opening and slamming of the boot.\n\nJamie Fox was funny yet an actual psychopath, which is maybe plausible, his most funny moments were his justifications for robbing a bank, 'they took our things while we were sleeping, we here to get them back, they deserve it' ( I paraphrase) and then later in the film, he is speaking to Don Draper and he deduces that he is a Wallstreet guy and rips into him, telling him he is actually a good guy compared to the crooks on Wallstreet. He has some 1 percenter resentment in him.  Spacey, is the mastermind behind the robberies, but we never get to see him do Joe Pesci shit, which he says he does but I don't know if I believe him. \n\nWith regards to Hamm's character, it was left field that he came after Baby the way he did, he had a friendly relationship with him,and then as soon as his 'Darling' was killed he went after him like Micheal Myers. His crayz behaviour was stated in the statements of his lover, that 'When Buddy sees red,' he goes fucking crazy (I paraphrase) in real life people don't go completely mental if they for most of the time are normal and show a bit of hesitancy in killing someone they actually liked, here Hamm sees red and wants Baby dead.  \n\nThe film needs to be watched, for the music, the comedy, the action, the dialogue, the cinematography, the choreography, the long shot in the beginning of the film and of course the romance.\n\n5/5",
