      "body": "![united-nation-11.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWBDAxzNJgm4y5X5PegRoa4FBuLRzhvgGT2RqiGDPMPha/united-nation-11.jpg)\n\nThe United Nations said on Thursday that is looking into allegations that complaints of sexual abuse and exploitation made against its peacekeepers in the dispute-torn Central African Republic were mishandled and not reported.\n\nThe United Nation’s 10,000-powerful mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been dogged by allegation of sex abuse since it deployed in 2014 to curb fighting between mainly Muslim Seleka rebels, who had expel the president, and Christian militias.\n\nInternal United Nation case files handed to Code Blue – a campaign by a non-governmental organisation seeking higher accountability for U.N. troops – detail 14 initial fact-finding inquiries into complaints made against MINUSCA peacekeepers from nine nations.\n\nUnder U.N. rules, peacekeepers are under the complete jurisdiction of the countries that sent them to perform their duties abroad.\n\nUp till now the files – which were not seen by the Thomson Reuters Foundation – reveal that 10 of the 14 cases were handled only by United Nation personnel, without involvement of investigators from the accused soldiers’ home countries, and that in eight of the 14 cases, the alleged victims were not questioned, Code Blue said.\n\n“These 14 cases reveal that the U.N. filters reports of complaints, usually tossing them out before the matters ever reach the capable authorities from troop-contributing countries,” said Sharanya Kanikkannan, a lawyer with Code Blue.\n\nMINUSCA reveal in an email that it is “analyzing and will transparently report on allegations (made by Code Blue)… of unreported cases of sexual exploitation and abuse”.\n\n“MINUSCA has created battle against sexual exploitation and abuse its core trade,” as stated by spokesperson Vladimir Monteiro.\n\n“It recognizes that sexual abuse cases have severely endanger the mission’s credibility and reputation in the past,” Monteiro told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.\n\nFollowing the MINUSCA response, United Nation spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters in New York late on Thursday that he did not believe the leaked files were a “representative sample”.\n\nIn December 2015, an independent review panel condemn the United Nations for grossly mishandling allegations of child sexual abuse and rape by international peacekeepers in 2013 and 2014 in Central African Republic, where heavy fighting wages on.\n\nThousands have died and a fifth of Central Africans have run away from violence that broke out in 2013",

      "body": "![mining-11.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUg8MRsLF4rjWb5ZcZRrVjT2ko2CAigvyrxz8ztBW6w89/mining-11.jpg)\n\nThe Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr,Kayode Fayemi on Thursday identified agriculture and mining as the critical sectors that brings Nigeria out of recession.\n\nFayemi made the observation at the Ministerial Session of the three-day maiden edition of National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development in Abuja.\n\nHe said that the efforts of the new administration have started yielding the desired results.\n\n“I can tell you we (Federal Executive Council) met on Wednesday and we analysis the figures that propel the country out of recession.\n\nFayemi said he continue on working with stakeholders to deliver on all the provisions in the Sector’s Growth Road map.\n\nHe said that the efforts of the administration in partnership with stakeholders had started yielding desired results.\n\nSuch as, one highlight of the road map is to achieve through stakeholders’ engagement an increasing amount of mining contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).\n\n“Also, to increase the delivery of shared prosperity to all stakeholders of the mining Value Chain (Exploration, Mining and Trade).\n\nAs at July, the sector had already surpassed the entire income of 2 billion naira generated for the whole 2016,’’ the minister said.\n\nFayemi pledge that the Nigeria’s mineral resource endowments would be optimally exploited for the benefit of Nigeria through collaborative governance of the mining sector by governments and communities at all levels.\n\nThe Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Mustapha Shehuri, said that good network of roads had played a role in accessing and evacuation of minerals from mining sites.\n\nShehuri said that the ministry have determine to increase power supply from 6,000 megawatts to 20,000 megawatts by 2020.\n\n“We are working towards getting the right energy mix for Nigeria.\n\n“We are going into solar, wind, nuclear, waste to energy-powered plants, in addition to the existing hydropower, gas and fossil fuel driven plants,’’ the minster said.\n\nGov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi said the mining sector had suffered set back for some years because of discovery of crude oil.\n\nBagudu said that for over 20 years, the Federal Government had invested no less than 10 billion dollars yearly in the development of petroleum resources.\n\n“I think, once we examine the performance of mining sector, the closest to us is Ghana, where in 2016; it produced 90 tonnes of gold, which is about seven billion dollars.\n\nThe seven billion dollars is 50 per cent of our earning from oil and yet we know of many states including Kebbi that have been producing gold.",
