bodyWhen you picture an atom in your mind, What is the outermost part of the atom? It's those tiny little electron runts running here and there in their orbitals or electron clouds. And everything is made of atoms as well. So, that means... every surface outer layer should have a negative charge! And everyone knows, at least they should know, that like charges repel each other because of the electric fields they generate. Going back to the previous statement. "every surface outer layer should have a negative charge!" Even the shoe sole is supposed to have a negative outer charger and so does the floor you walk on! And there is a repulsion between them. levitating you ever so slightly and not touching the ground... I can show the calculation of this as well. What is the weight of an average human being? let me ask google-sama Well, google-sama said 620 N. I'll trust google-sama with that. So each shoe should be supporting a weight of 310 N. Now, what about the area of the shoe sole? Back google-sama... 100 cm² is what google-sama said what the area of a foot should be. And therefore I'll take the shoe's surface area as 0.02 m². Google-sama also said that the diameter of an atom is 0.5 nm. To find the number of atoms on the sole of the shoe, which is area of shoe/ area of one atom. But what is the area of one atom? use πr² as we know the diameter of the atom already. And the number of atoms is 1.02×10¹⁷ atoms. And force on each atom will be, 310/(1.02×10¹⁷), which is 3.04×10⁻¹⁵ And each electron repealing its corresponding electron should be, the (3.04×10⁻¹⁵)/4, Why? Oxygen is the most abundant and it has eight electrons for which 4 will be in each side. The force electron exerts on each other will be 7.61×10⁻¹⁶ N And here it is the height you levitate. r=√((Q₁Q₂)/(4πεₒF)) And finally r=5.5×10⁻⁷ m Which is 8% the length of a red blood cell. That is barely anything and not worth your time fussing over... lol ![andrew-spencer-eY7ioRbk2sY-unsplash.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQzsZaiW52r2FALa5VWJ1n6Y2R5dhtXdhfauY1JWSSLBc/andrew-spencer-eY7ioRbk2sY-unsplash.jpg)

bodyIn 1909 a scientist named Robert Millikan had made an experiment to find out the charge of an electron. Before this, scientists had no way to measure the charge of an electron. Although they could find the mass to charge ratio with the mass spectrometer. So, How did Robert Millikan do this? let's dive right in. Firstly I should explain the outline of the experiment. But before that take a look at what the apparatus for this experiment would look like. ![cape_fire_ice_creeper.png](http://archives-dc.library.caltech.edu/islandora/object/ct1%3A3869/datastream/JPG/view) This is Millikan's oil drop apparatus. And for its internal structure. ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbFVQ8Mq3qKxP6wfoMDr3xFZ4cPXt5XowqkKnhtPgWWyN/image.png) In this apparatus, Millikan performed various types of tests. like letting the oil drop fall at terminal velocity, balancing the weight of the oil drop with the electric field, providing a stronger force using the electric field then the oil drop's weight, stuff like that. Okay, back to the beginning. When the vaporiser is used, it sprays out oil droplet, which by friction gains electrostatic charge. also, keep in mind that the density of the air inside this apparatus is kept very low so that the pesky little upthrust won't bug us much. And this charge is always a multiple of the charge of an electron, as the drops either gain or lose some amount of electron. And due to gravity, the droplets continue it's way down, and some of them pass through the anode into the uniform electric field in between the charged plates ( anode and cathode). Or to find the terminal velocity (which is required later on) we just keep the switch off so there is no p.d. charging the plates. You know what? Let's just deal with the terminal velocity now! But first, a little about stokes law. Stoke's law is comprised of a equation derived from investigating fluid dynamics by Sir George Gabriel Stokes. This equation was meant for low speed small sphere moving through a fluid. F=6πηvr In the equation r -> radius of sphere v -> velocity of sphere (this is where the terminal velocity comes in) η -> coefficient of viscosity of fluid So, back to Oil Drop When the drop is under terminal velocity, that means all forces are balanced. Therefore Weight = Viscous Drag m g = 6 π η(viscosity of air) vₜ r(radius of sphere) And then there is when the drop is held using electric force. That time the equation is, weight=electric force m g = E Q but, m g = VQ/d will be more viable here Now, in both equation, we have weight in common So, a new equation VQ/d = 6πηvₜ r Now we are getting somewhere because Q=(6πηvₜ rd)/V But the only problem is, there is no way to measure the raduis for Millikan... So the only thing he could do... Make equation bigger... by substituting r from a further developed version of stokes law... vₜ=(2r²g(ρₒᵢₗ-ρₐᵢᵣ))/9η => r=((9ηvₜ)/(2gρₒᵢₗ))^(½) ... Where did ρₐᵢᵣ go from the equation?... uhh... Remember how Millikan kept the desity of air in the chamber very low, low enough to be negligible... Yeah, exactly that happened. Now Millikan could finally find it... YAY with, Q= ((6πηvₜ d)/V)×((9ηvₜ)/(2gρₒᵢₗ))^(½) In the end what Millikan found was, Q= 1.59×10⁻¹⁹ C which was infact only 1% away from the original value... which was, Q=1.602×10⁻¹⁹ C

"body": "In 1909 a scientist named Robert Millikan had made an experiment to find out the charge of an electron.\nBefore this, scientists had no way to measure the charge of an electron. Although they could find the mass to charge ratio with the mass spectrometer.\n\nSo, How did Robert Millikan do this? let's dive right in.\n\nFirstly I should explain the outline of the experiment. But before that take a look at what the apparatus for this experiment would look like.\n\n![cape_fire_ice_creeper.png](http://archives-dc.library.caltech.edu/islandora/object/ct1%3A3869/datastream/JPG/view)\n\nThis is Millikan's oil drop apparatus.\n\nAnd for its internal structure.\n\n![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbFVQ8Mq3qKxP6wfoMDr3xFZ4cPXt5XowqkKnhtPgWWyN/image.png)\n\nIn this apparatus, Millikan performed various types of tests. like letting the oil drop fall at terminal velocity, balancing the weight of the oil drop with the electric field, providing a stronger force using the electric field then the oil drop's weight, stuff like that.\n\nOkay, back to the beginning.\nWhen the vaporiser is used, it sprays out oil droplet, which by friction gains electrostatic charge. also, keep in mind that the density of the air inside this apparatus is kept very low so that the pesky little upthrust won't bug us much. And this charge is always a multiple of the charge of an electron, as the drops either gain or lose some amount of electron. And due to gravity, the droplets continue it's way down, and some of them pass through the anode into the uniform electric field in between the charged plates ( anode and cathode). Or to find the terminal velocity (which is required later on) we just keep the switch off so there is no p.d. charging the plates.\n\nYou know what?\nLet's just deal with the terminal velocity now!\nBut first, a little about stokes law.\nStoke's law is comprised of a equation derived from investigating fluid dynamics by Sir George Gabriel Stokes.\nThis equation was meant for low speed small sphere moving through a fluid.\n\nF=6πηvr\n\nIn the equation\nr -> radius of sphere\nv -> velocity of sphere (this is where the terminal velocity comes in)\nη -> coefficient of viscosity of fluid\n\nSo, back to Oil Drop\nWhen the drop is under terminal velocity, that means all forces are balanced. Therefore\nWeight = Viscous Drag\nm g = 6 π η(viscosity of air) vₜ r(radius of sphere)\n\nAnd then there is when the drop is held using electric force. That time the equation is,\nweight=electric force\nm g = E Q\nbut,\nm g = VQ/d will be more viable here\n\nNow, in both equation, we have weight in common\nSo, a new equation\n\nVQ/d = 6πηvₜ r\n\nNow we are getting somewhere\nbecause\n\nQ=(6πηvₜ rd)/V\n\nBut the only problem is, there is no way to measure the raduis for Millikan...\n\nSo the only thing he could do... Make equation bigger...\nby substituting r from a further developed version of stokes law...\n\nvₜ=(2r²g(ρₒᵢₗ-ρₐᵢᵣ))/9η => r=((9ηvₜ)/(2gρₒᵢₗ))^(½)\n\n... Where did ρₐᵢᵣ go from the equation?...\nuhh... Remember how Millikan kept the desity of air in the chamber very low, low enough to be negligible... Yeah, exactly that happened.\n\nNow Millikan could finally find it... YAY\nwith,\n\nQ= ((6πηvₜ d)/V)×((9ηvₜ)/(2gρₒᵢₗ))^(½)\n\nIn the end what Millikan found was,\nQ= 1.59×10⁻¹⁹ C\nwhich was infact only 1% away from the original value...\nwhich was,\nQ=1.602×10⁻¹⁹ C",

bodyImagine an empty space, in that empty space if you place a charged particle you might just start to see the particle move, more accurately accelerate. That there is an electric field, a region where a charged particle experiences a force. Huh? How's this useful? An application of this electric field is X-ray machines. The field accelerates electrons to crash onto metal and hence produce X-rays. And this is just one of the uses! Now, of course, we can't see the electric fields. So instead we draw something called an electric field line to visualize the areas under the effect of the electric field. But how do these line work? Uhh... let's see The arrow shows the direction in which a unipositive charge will feel the force. Also, lines closer together just mean stronger field and lines far away from each other means weaker field. It basically works the same way as magnetic field lines. Wait a minute, where do these electric fields even come from in the first place? Well, You see it is generated around a charged object. In other words, a charged object creates a field which affects other charged objects which also has an electric field around them. There is also something else to consider here because there are two types of charges. Positive and Negative. From a positively charged object, the electric field lines go outward on the other hand if it is a negatively charged particle then the field lines will go inwards. ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUe34tjBoqEpsh4vXZkTXA8LaQQQhvWSsBLrpovVY3Wrw/image.png) And because of that, we can create a uniform electric field by lining up two plates, one with a negative charge and one with a positive charge close together. Connecting lines from one charge to the other, this a principle called superposition. BTW these pair of plates is called a capacitor if both of then are connected to the same voltage. ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSWeew1cTUJUtowoBovFp7Ejx9p6CSyBSWrMxJCwYJzgw/image.png) These field lines also have said properties that need to be looked at as well. At any point, the field lines have to always be tangent at the direction of the field What does it mean? Picture a positive charge and a negative charge beside each other. What does the field line look like? look below ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNfW8QGAdSoz6rtcZBa5nY9BKy7UD8C5qXiiTrryFzbzh/image.png) And again, This picture is what it is because of superposition. I'll talk about superposition in detail some other time. Back to the topic at hand, say you place a unipositive charge anywhere in the field, then, of course, it'll feel a force. But in which direction? The force is in the direction of the tangent of that field line at that point. And the opposite direction of force for a negative charge. ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeWchfSUbuYsNj4puRCAfno9Mrs4bdpLh6d1WBdCVZ4em/image.png) Another property The lines always start from a positively charged to a negatively charged object. No matter what. So you might think, what if there isn't any negatively charged particle around and just positive charged particles are available. Then the lines from each particle will push each other (repulsion) while going off to infinity till it finds another negatively charged particle. Here is again another property. As I said before the lines will push each other. Meaning the lies will never cross each other! Why? cause if they did cross, there will be a different direction of charges in the exact same location! And that's not possible! Now, of course, there will be equations that will come into play. So, there is a force on a charge causing an acceleration. So for the force F=EQ (where E is something called the electric field strength, yeah the name says it all. And Q is the charge) But how does acceleration tie into this? everyone knows, hopefully... that F=ma (mass × acceleration) substitute force and voila a=EQ/m Moving onto something called Electric Potential. Think back to the X-ray machine. There was a force on the electron, so it moved. But if it moved it must have a Kinetic Energy. Where does this energy come from? It is the cause of electric potential. And every point in the electric field gives the electron, no cut that, say any charged particle will be given a certain electric potential energy per unit of charge. And the equation for this V=Eₚ/Q and so, this electric field is present between every object that has electric potential. Hence, it adds to why we could form the uniform field in the capacitor before. And here is an equation that describes this uniform electric field cause of the voltage. E=V/d So, as the distance between the field increases the electric field strength weakens. This also brings something else to note. Electric field strength has two equally valid SI units cause of both the equations! E=V/d & E=F/Q So, NC⁻¹ & Vm⁻¹ are equally valid. Now for a fun experiment that can enable you to visualize an electric field. But, before that, High Voltage supplies are used in this experiment! Do at your own risk! Take a container of clear oil and place a lot of dry small seeds or anything similar that can get charged. Add your electrodes (different shapes may shoe different lines) connected to a voltage. And see the seeds line up to represent the field lines as they get slightly charged. Here is an image from sciencedemo. ![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNvHWQeyanA9YM9BTe8VnddJSY11wZJtDPCmM574gik3g/image.png) And here is the last thing in the post I would mention. Equipotentials These are a line on the which goes in a perpendicular line to the field. And in that line, if you take any point and compare it with any other point on the same line, then they would have the same potential. And how close these lines are will show the electric field strength (the closer the line the more rapid change in potential there is in the direction of the field). That's all folks

bodyJohannes Nicolaus Brønsted a man from Denmark and Thomas Martin Lowry another man from England. Both of these men independently released their theory, which became the reason why it's called Brønsted–Lowry theory. This Theory contains the missing pieces of the Arrhenius Theory (Acid donates protons H⁺ ion and Base donates hydroxide OH⁻). It also contains how acids (any substance with pH below 7) and bases (any substance with pH above 7) interact. Okay, Okay, now what makes Brønsted–Lowry Theory different... Acid (AKA proton donor and does not need to have pH below 7) the dude who donates a proton ( H⁺ ion ) is still the same here. Whatever it may be, if it donates a proton then it's an acid. However, on the other hand, the Base (AKA proton acceptor and does not need to have a pH above 7) is the dude who takes these protons, which holds the difference. This also explains why Ammonia NH₃ can act as a Base without having any OH⁻. More info? Well, it may also seem like any molecule containing hydrogen can be acid. but guess what? For it to be an acid the hydrogen in the molecule has to have a slight positive charge. This occurs when the hydrogen is bonded to a very electronegative atom ( electronegativity is described as the strength of an atom to pull electrons towards itself) like chlorine. Whereas, if we look at Bases, they also need to meet a requirement. And that requirement is the existence of lone pairs(a pair of electrons that is free and not involved in bonds). If a lone pair of electron exists then it can form a dative covalent bond ( Basically just one of the atoms is the provider for electrons both atoms are sharing.... Sounds a bit unfair but it is what it is ) with the proton. Example time? Perhaps... You might have noticed, Acid and Base interact in pairs, cause if one donates the other has to accept the donation, hence CONJUGATE ACID-BASE PAIRS. When an acid like HCl dissolves in water it establishes an equilibrium as follows HCl (aq) + H₂O (l) ⇌ H₃O⁺ (aq) + Cl⁻ (aq) What in the world is a H₃O⁺? Well, it's a hydronium ion, happens when water accepts a proton. Also, have you noticed anything else? Yes, if the acid donates a proton it turns into a base... So... they form pairs... HCl and Cl⁻ as a conjugate pair while H₂O and H₃O⁺ is the other conjugate pair. Example 2? Maybe... This example will make something else apparent. It is ammonia dissolved in water, it establishes another equilibrium. NH₃ (aq) + H₂O (l) ⇌ NH₄⁺ (aq) + OH⁻ (aq) Here the conjugate pairs are. For the base H₂O & OH⁻ and as for acid NH₃ & NH₄⁺. There something else in both these reactions to notice... again... It is Water! seen how it can act as both as an acid and base, because of this that are called amphoteric substances. Speaking of amphoteric substances, There are strange substances that do not donate or accept protons! but they do act like acids and bases... But How? Why? Now the Lewis Theory comes into play. What does Lewis theory say that makes it different? It involves the transfer of electrons instead of protons. Where acid is an electron acceptor and a base is an electron donor. Here are names for the types of acids Monoprotic - donates a single hydrogen Diprotic - donates two hydrogen Triprotic - donates three hydrogen The Bases goes the same way... Monobasic - accepts a single proton Dibasic - accepts two protons Tribasic - Blah Blah you know the drill... What makes an Acid weak or Strong? The acid that dissociated completely are strong. HCl (aq) → H⁺ (aq) + Cl⁻ (aq) The acid that dissociated partially are weak. CH₃COOH (aq) ⇌ CH₃COO⁻ (aq) + H⁺ (aq) Why did I post something boring like this? I ask myself that... Quarantine is getting me bored...

bodyHave you heard? About classroom calamity, I mean. The cause of breakdown, trust and dependence. A sort of dense atmosphere emerges. Everything seems dull, gray and dark. A gloomy and ghastly presence takes over. Everybody seems to stare at each other as if they are some sort of disgrace in the air! Have you ever thought? Your change might arouse suspicion among people, doubt may arise. Hate and conflict develops. Till eternal devastation is reached! Deep feelings. Deep hard feelings. Don't let yourself indulge in that. You will have no where else to go! You will be all alone! No friends to back you up when you need them the most! With no support you will only plunge into utter darkness... Sad to know, your life is nothing but a waste. Your effort, your hard work, your determination, all seems pointless. Would you be able to live with yourself? Even if you manage to pull off something like a trusty myrmidon you still will be betrayed at some point. And it all began just with a small competition... No one would ever suspect what could have come from it. It could fire off as a great start and end with a completely unexpected outcome. Behold one good old average day, the sun shining bright, sounds of birds chirping resonated, cool slight breeze blowing in. Sounds relaxing and nice. Yes, very nice indeed. But suddenly the teacher comes up with a strange noise, giving a stranger news! And so it began...

bodyHave you heard? About classroom calamity, I mean the cause of breakdown, trust and dependence. A sort of dense atmosphere emerges. Everything seems dull, gray and dark. A gloomy and ghastly presence takes over. Everybody seems to stare at each other as if they are some sort of disgrace! Have you ever thought? Your change might arouse suspicion among people, doubt may arise. Hate and conflict develops. Till eternal devastation is reached! Deep feelings. Deep hard feelings. Don't let yourself indulge in that. You will have nowhere else to go! That moment will sting you the most… And then Breakdown! Desperate! Yet no help arrives… Asking, waiting, begging yet no improvement in the condition… You feel wasted. You feel eager. You yearn as your situation turns dire and your ache keeps growing pessimistic along with your longing for something to happen. But Then… You realize you just can’t live to your fullest any longer. The never ending life gets boring. Everything seems to be passing by quick. Quicker. Quickest. You feel stuck in time motionless… Here they are now and there they go. You feel left behind in eternal darkness. Till suicide becomes an option! You hesitate, then you resist. You start to have second thoughts. You don’t seem to be yourself, and you don’t seem to get over it. After which at a point you start doubting yourself. And very soon you let go and decide life is just not worth it! Not worth living anymore… And then when you reach the final stage – Suicide! The fear of death overwhelms you throughout your veins. You are in a state of confusion and chaos. You don’t know what to do! Your instincts tell you not to do it, whereas at the same time your conscious urges you to do it. You are so close and yet you are so far. You just can’t take it anymore – the distress! You mentally slip and do it… Death is inevitable.
