| title | The Uncertain Future Of Nigerian Sports Talents |
| body | Look around you, more youths are playing football, basketball, and even training to be recognized athletes in the nearest future, however with the very evident lack of standard facilities and inefficiently run talent development systems in the country what is the fate of these ones in the coming years? Nigeria has in previous years enjoyed continental and world dominance in almost every sports the nation sent representatives to - basking in the glory of victories won by homebred talents like Nojeem Maiyegun (boxing), Innoent Egbunike (Atheltics), Chioma Ajunwa (Multi-Sport), Segun Odegbami (Football), Enefiok Udo-obong (Athletics), Mercy Akide (Football), Dick Tiger (boxing), Austin Okocha (Football), Stephen Keshi (Football) and a host of others. Time was supposed to make it even better with the use of elaborate training technologies and facilities to further help hone the talents of indigenous sports persons. Howbeit the reverse has been the case in recent years with significant decline in almost all sports. A Solution That Was Never Implemented A solution to curb all the excesses ailing sports in the country reside in the Nigeria National Sports Policy, yet the nation only dwells in the shadows of glories past. Nigeria’s Sports Policy is a well of very detailed information and instructions that if followed to the letter can alter the fate of sports in Nigeria for good. Some pivotal points in the policy include the full-on co-ordination of sports development programmes at all levels of government. The introductory part of the document states, “sport authorities at the National, State and Local Government levels shall undertake periodic assessment of sporting activities to check weaknesses, capacity gaps and adopt appropriate programme of action to correct them” Even at grassroots levels, there are no provisions for these, how then can our sports be better when the white paper for it has been shoved aside? Recommendation Many Nigerians leave the shores of the country to other promising nations of the world and end up doing remarkably well for them, look at Divine Oduduru for instance, a five-time African Junior Champion, yet he never got a chance to grow above his skill level until his career came to a standstill. In a statement by the athlete just before the 2016 Olympic Games, Oduduru complained abut the poor welfare of Nigerian athletes sating that “athletes will go out and represent a country, you come back with nothing, this should be a shame to Nigeria because Nigerian athletes we are suffering” Oduduru got a scholarship to the University of Texas and ever since the sprinter has held nothing back, smashing two long-kept Texas Tech records and from all indications there’s a lot more we’ll still see the athlete achieve in coming years. What changed? Oduduru was obviously exposed to better coaching and training facilities, he even looks better and speaks a lot better now. So talent is not at all Nigeria’s problem, organization and management is the core issue. |

| title | Nigerians and World Cup Chickens in Russsia |
| body | Nigerian football supporters are muddled by reports to Russian officials to have live chickens delivered into the World Cup venues for good luck charms. The news of the uncanny request made the rounds last week in various platforms in Russia that Nigerian supporters have had their requests to take in live chickens to the stadium denied by officials, however fans say the preposterous demands did not come from them. According to reports, Andrei Yermak, Kaliningrad's minister for culture and tourism, said: “It was explained to the fans that according to safety regulations, it is not permitted to enter the stadium with live animals.” Nigeria is not a nation with such traditions and more-so making a request to a foreign government for live chickens to be brought to an international event does not in any way sound like what Nigerians would engage in despite the circumstances. Both the Nigerian Football Supporters Club and the Nigerian Eagles Supporters Club told KweséESPN, they are oblivious to the source of any such requests being made to Russian officials ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup games. “That is ridiculous,” Rafiu Ladipo, president of the NFSC, said. “I have been leading this group for decades, and we have never carried a live chicken into any stadium. “The only things we carry are our musical instruments and we pray. Prayer is the only charm we have. Why should we need a chicken? Maybe someone just wants to deceive them [the Russians].” Vincent Okumagba, who heads the rival NESC was also amused by the reports as he told KweséESPN that the first time he heard of the demands was when the reports were made public “We read it just like everybody else, and we were a bit surprised. We would never make such a request, and we never did, “Perhaps somebody on his own decided that he wanted to take a chicken into the stadium for his own purposes, or maybe he is just having fun. But we do not take chickens into the stadium. “Maybe somebody somewhere did not understand each other properly, I don't know.” |

| title | Nigerians and World Cup Chickens in Russsia |
| body | Nigerian football supporters are muddled by reports to Russian officials to have live chickens delivered into the World Cup venues for good luck charms. “Maybe somebody somewhere did not understand each other properly, I don't know.” |

| title | DEPRESSION |
| body | 10 GREAT TIPS FOE DEALING WITH DEPRESSION Hello there Depression... I see you're back again, I thought you had your fill the last time? Oh you didn't.. It's alright, we'll pick up from where we left off. Sadly this is an everyday experience for more people than they care to admit. They are probably like the old me, we prefer to bottle up our feelings and emotions than talk about them. Like people say, "time heals", so we just let time wave it's magic wand in our faces. Plus 'we are strong', ain't no one gonn' see me vulnerable.... Hehe.. But then let me ask you this, how much time have you put into that bottled up feeling, and how much has it healed? You see, let me tell you a story about me. About a year ago, I got into a motor accident where I fractured both bones on my left leg. The doctors were on strike and little could be done for me at the time, so my leg was just immobilized with POP (you should know that this was done whilst my bones were still overlapping each other, so I had my left leg shorter than my right by a few inches). A month passed, two months passed without any treatment. In the third month, I went to see an orthopedic consultant, and he told me that my leg had already begun healing itself. I was shocked because I knew nothing was right with my leg, the bones were healing wrongly and it was getting even worse. Yes time had happened and healing had begun, I should have been happy, but I wasn't, this was definitely not the healing I wanted. Not at all! I wanted to be truly fine, and this wasn't anywhere close to it. So you see, time truly heals, but you can decide if you want it right or wrong. Keeping that depression all bottled up inside of you and waiting on time to heal you will only make it worse. As the days went by I felt even more worthless as I throng deeper into the darkness. I had lost every will to live, and at this point I knew I was going to give in to the suicidal thoughts throbbing my mind sooner or later. I had already lost, so there was no need to fight anymore. But here I am writing this, so yes I thought wrong. Depression rubs you of every will to live, by making you feel less about yourself and magnifying your mistakes and insecurities. The worst thing you can do while in this state is bottle up that feeling. I've been there, it'll only lead you deeper into depression. I was able to fight back eventually, but i couldn't have done it all by myself. Others may prescribe more to you, but here I'll list and explain in few details 10 ways I was able to deal with depression. Talk To Someone You can't do it all by yourself, you don't have all the experience and you definitely can't help yourself by sitting down and doing nothing, if not you'd be fine by now. I know in this part of the world, it's rather uncomfortable to meet a shrink and start telling them about your life and your precious secrets. Nonetheless, isn't the well being of your heart more precious? Don't Give It Time, Fight That Thought I know at this point it feels right to just let go and not hold on anymore. The battles in your mind leave you drained and weak everyday and you just want it to stop. You think the only option you've got is just to let go. You're wrong, you can fight back. Depressive thoughts are negative thoughts, and how do you fight fire? With water! So try your best to focus on positive thoughts, engage in activities that make you happy. Don't give that thought any time, fight back! Re-evaluate Relationships Trust me, I'm not talking about just romantic relationships. I'm referring to any ship at all you've boarded.. Yes! Know when it's the Titanic; it may seem really good but it could also be the reason you're heading to your doom. There are people we have in our lives that make us feel less and demean us every chance they get, reminding us of our mistakes and bad decisions. You don't need their words, and you definitely don't need them. Your priority should be your happiness, and letting go of such toxic relationships is a step towards your goal. Build A Routine When folks are depressed, they tend to do too much at the same time in a bid to distract themselves. NO! This is wrong in every sense of the word. Instead I implore you to find something that works for you. Thinking and doing too much would only make you feel like you've not made so much progress. Don't be in a hurry, it takes practice. Start out with something simple, something you are good at. It can be cooking, doing the dishes or even something tech related if you're tech savvy. Just make it a habit and be faithful to it. Set Goals So you've figured what to do, That's just the first phase. You need to set goals, it can be daily, weekly or even monthly. Depression can make you feel like you've achieved less than you should have in a given time. You'll fight that thought effectively by setting and achieving your goals as you've planned them. Again, don't take on too much than you can handle. Take On Responsibility In a state of depression, your natural state is the 'I don't really care' state. You refuse responsibilities mostly because you've concluded in your mind that you would probably fail at it. If you don't take on responsibilities, you may never know your true potential. Having something to look forward to everyday will also help you deal with that negative thought. Challenge Yourself Challenge yourself to learn and do something new. It's self rewarding and a great feeling when everyday you learn and achieve something new. Sleep Well Depression can drain you emotionally and also physically and at the same time keep you up at night. Not sleeping at all and sleeping too much can make your depression worse. You have to sleep well, but not too much. Your body needs an approximate 8 hours of sleep everyday to be at optimum performance. Schedule sleep times and stick to it. Eat Healthy and Exercise A lot of people start eating way too much when they feel depressed. Watch what you eat and eat right. Don't forget to exercise, take walks, go for a run, or even visit the gym. Exercising can be a part of your daily or weekly routine. You don't need to do too much, sometimes little is just enough. Be Happy I know this may sound pretty hard right now, still you've got everything you need to be happy. You first have to decide within yourself to be happy. That is the first and most important step. Remember I told you earlier that I didn't become happier and feel better all by myself. I had help. My girlfriend especially and some friends were very instrumental during my time of depression. Plan to have fun, be around people that make you happy. I know at first it may feel very weird, don't stop. Keep at it, I'll only get better. If you've forgotten how, let your friends and loved ones teach you. Make up your mind to have fun. Smile without reason no matter how hard it may seem. |

| body | 10 GREAT TIPS FOE DEALING WITH DEPRESSION Hello there Depression... Smile without reason no matter how hard it may seem. |

| title | CODE .... Africa's Revolution |
| body | So for a while now, I have been getting direct messages from folk telling me about how they don’t really have a Computer Science background so they can’t code. For those that put in a little effort into learning online, they eventually got tired out and that was the end of their coding experience. Now my question… What is the big deal about a ‘computer science background’ in a country like Nigeria where lecturers in higher institutions take pride in teaching teach obsolete languages like Fotran? Fotran!!! What job opportunity will a numerical and computational analysis language originally created in 1950s create for a 21st century grad student? They come out of school and are unemployable because there is almost zero need for the programming languages they were taught. The few still interested ultimately go back to learning up-to-the-minute languages, and to make it even worse they have to unlearn, then learn these languages from scratch; “Hello World”. There is almost no difference between these ones and others with no Computer Science background. About two years ago, The vice-president of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo while in a conference meeting in Abuja organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Education Data, Research and Evaluation in Nigeria, spoke on the saddening state of education in Nigeria and poor teaching methods as the bane of progress in this sector. So two years later, what has changed? Your guess is as good as mine…… NOTHING!!! So why concern yourself with the lack of a ‘Computer Science’ background when you can build one even better? I am sure you’ve seen the name ‘FavCode54’ making the rounds on Facebook and many popular blogs in and out of the country… YES? FavCode54 is the brainchild of tech genius Favor Ori, a Nigerian.. Yes you read right, Favor is a Nigerian, and thats not even the shocking part, he is from the ‘Aba' in Abia State you know and have heard so much about… There’s more to his story I won’t talk about here, you can read all about him on favcode54.org/blog. Favor Ori started FavCode54, formerly called #CodeWithFavor2018 to train aspiring developers from beginner and intermediate stages to experts in various web and mobile development technologies who will be employable anywhere in the world. CodeWithFavor2018 started out with 40 learners who have already begun classes with world class mentors and are well on their way to achieving Favor’s dream for them. Students were offered a variety of courses to choose from including front and back end web development, mobile development for both android and iOS, Data Science, Python, UI/UX and others. In a country where mobile data is a very expensive commodity, every student is given unlimited data for downloads of course materials. Did I forget to mention that this is FREE? All the payment you need to be a part of this program is your determination and dedication. For those that think they missed out on the opportunity to join this sky-bound train, be happy, it just got batter for you. About a week ago, FavCode54.org entered a partnership with Northern Nigeria tech giant, Startup Arewa to train 5000 dedicated individuals to become expert software developers. If you haven’t applied yet, apply now using this link apply.favcode54.org I know for some, the question on your mind is ‘How is FavCode54 different from other learning platforms I’ve been on without progress’ Here’s one way FavCode54 will achieve this. Learning on the platform is self-paced with metacognitive strategies on FavCode54 learners dashboard so each learner sees their progress against the expectations of the team for them. The mentors will also adopt the best teaching methods geared towards helping each learner learn and grow their skill on a one-on-one or group basis, employing classroom discussions, collaborative homework, and learner feedback. The world is turning into a tech hub, do yourself some good and be very relevant in this new world. apply.favcode54.org |

There is almost no difference between these ones and others with no Computer Science background.\nAbout two years ago, The vice-president of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo while in a conference meeting in Abuja organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Education Data, Research and Evaluation in Nigeria, spoke on the saddening state of education in Nigeria and poor teaching methods as the bane of progress in this sector.\nSo two years later, what has changed?\nYour guess is as good as mine…… NOTHING!!!\nSo why concern yourself with the lack of a ‘Computer Science’ background when you can build one even better?\nI am sure you’ve seen the name ‘FavCode54’ making the rounds on Facebook and many popular blogs in and out of the country… YES?\nFavCode54 is the brainchild of tech genius Favor Ori, a Nigerian.. Yes you read right, Favor is a Nigerian, and thats not even the shocking part, he is from the ‘Aba' in Abia State you know and have heard so much about… \nThere’s more to his story I won’t talk about here, you can read all about him on favcode54.org/blog.\nFavor Ori started FavCode54, formerly called #CodeWithFavor2018 to train aspiring developers from beginner and intermediate stages to experts in various web and mobile development technologies who will be employable anywhere in the world.\nCodeWithFavor2018 started out with 40 learners who have already begun classes with world class mentors and are well on their way to achieving Favor’s dream for them.\nStudents were offered a variety of courses to choose from including front and back end web development, mobile development for both android and iOS, Data Science, Python, UI/UX and others.\nIn a country where mobile data is a very expensive commodity, every student is given unlimited data for downloads of course materials.\nDid I forget to mention that this is FREE?\nAll the payment you need to be a part of this program is your determination and dedication.\nFor those that think they missed out on the opportunity to join this sky-bound train, be happy, it just got batter for you.\nAbout a week ago, FavCode54.org entered a partnership with Northern Nigeria tech giant, Startup Arewa to train 5000 dedicated individuals to become expert software developers. If you haven’t applied yet, apply now using this link apply.favcode54.org\nI know for some, the question on your mind is ‘How is FavCode54 different from other learning platforms I’ve been on without progress’\nHere’s one way FavCode54 will achieve this. \nLearning on the platform is self-paced with metacognitive strategies on FavCode54 learners dashboard so each learner sees their progress against the expectations of the team for them.\nThe mentors will also adopt the best teaching methods geared towards helping each learner learn and grow their skill on a one-on-one or group basis, employing classroom discussions, collaborative homework, and learner feedback.\nThe world is turning into a tech hub, do yourself some good and be very relevant in this new world.\napply.favcode54.org",
