It's about a short teaser for a small festival in the Netherlands. The company published it at the right time for their marketing strategy and this means that we can finally publish it. I've been super siked over this project since it was so much fun being part of it.

Together with a team of individuals with their own expertise,
we have been working for several weeks on this very short clip. While I had a small part of the entire project,
joined for about 4 days.

Last year I joined the team who made the artwork and invitation for Green Vibrations and we made this.

GVB 2017 Teaser from Timothy Mercenary on Vimeo.

CREDITS
Concept and Set Design: Beeldgeneratie
Production & Set Design: Vanz
Soundtrack: HGHR SLVS
Art director & Animation: Timothy Mercenary
Director of Photography & Light: Ruben Cress

And this year...

... we managed to pull this off. Everything you see in this clip is handmade,
lighting technique and camerawork. No animations(!) involved. Beeldgeneratie had the genius idea to work with parts that were placed in air,
that would vorm the words "Green Vibrations" from a specific angle.

The letters are pieces of wood that were placed specifically in a certain spot so that you can only see the words "Green Vibrations" when you're looking at the artwork from a specific point. Actually,
my camera was the only one that could actually see this like this exactly because we worked with a Wide Angle lens. Of course,
our own eyes could come close to it,
but it actually just some pieces of wood floating in the air,
looking at us as if they had no idea what was going on.

This idea was awesome,
but it came with some nice challenges and was a little bit a pain in the ass because we had to keep an eye on our monitor the entire time to see what we were actually doing.

The Process

We managed to pull this off because we were very well prepared before even going into creating all the parts for decoration and the letters. I received a phone call from Beeldgeneratie and they came up with the idea. I was going wild and wanted to get in the car asap. We first had to calculate the focal point and length of the camera and lens. Since I am using a Metabones Speedbooster adapter for my Canon lenses this was a extra challenge. To perfect the calculations,
we had to recalibrate this with 3D Software so we could get a better idea of what we would be pulling off. Thanks to Timothy Mercenary this was a breeze. I thought I was a geek when it comes to calculating,
but this guy is fast. So the first step was syncing the camera and the lens with software calculations so we could give the letters a definition of size and placing. Once we knew this was possible and we would be able to work this out,
all the fun started.

Awesome,
let the research begin. Vanz and Beeldgeneratie had spent a tremendous amount of time on doing research for materials,
colours that could work. The idea came from Marloes (one of the owners of Beeldgeneratie),
she had everything perfectly fine in her mind. She wanted to create a clip that would give you the feeling as if you're discovering a world as you move further through the artwork. This was most important for me to know since I was responsible for the lighting.

After getting all the materials and mixed colours together they cut out all the leaves and fold them properly. Believe me,
there were many paper leaves in all different sizes and colours. And it didn't stay with just paper leaves,
no,
the mastermind wanted more attributes on set. This took about 1-2 weeks to finish. And on the last two days,
we had to start to build our set with lighting and placing the wooden sticks in the right spot and made sure this was not moving anymore.

Testing,
re-adjusting and more testing

So,
we had everything set-up right? You might think ah well,
easy. Done deal,
it's a wrap. Well,
it was not. We could finally see what we wanted to see. And now we had to test the hero-shot and re-adjust the scenery to our pleasing. Everything had to be perfect since we did not want to add any motion graphics to the scene itself. Obviously,
we had to add Motion Graphics for the date and adding the logo of the Festival. We thought we would nail this in 1-2 days but ended up with spending another extra day getting the best result possible.

When everything was recorded the only thing that had to be done was the music. Mark from HGHRSLVS is one sick dude when it comes to creating beats that fit the clip.

So,
spending so much time on a clip that's not even one minute long. Worth it? Hell yeah.

Check out the video here or click on the image below.

Camera Settings

Technical information

Camera

Sony Alpha 7R Mark II

Lens

Canon 17-40mm USM f/4

Shutterspeed

1/50

Aperture

f/4

ISO

100

Cheers,

Ruben

",
"tags":["dlive",
"video",
"life",
"blog",
"photography" ,
"app":"steemit/0.1",
"format":"markdown",
"language":"en",
"thumbnail":"http://ipfs.io/ipfs/Qme1VhmutntXHEEXeYhhPRqW2uckVdxQMBpYqrGkuCKybk",
"ipfsHash":"QmRMXBp8Hn14FTgFtwWfcF6LRjLnzCFyKLYaQzBgb3oRWN",
"image":["https://steemitimages.com/DQmdV8niBNyRfgi2bz5uKaXDG8Mfr9Fwr42XSbjKyeBJNmk/WhatsApp%20Image%202017-12-15%20at%2011.57.43.jpeg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmbvi1tDSTP51xg1Zs8WE1Xa9s7ZsvBsVu5iAz2DtK1zhe/GV-2018-DetailDSC04252.jpg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmW5K8TFfgjmLnSQrB818eRKseoDKx5oiZPwMdhcQdb8vz/GV-2018-DetailDSC04276.jpg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmdwQasYP7jcp9ReGVrrmdidtBGBtcx8AQke1tCHxJhvdB/GV-2018-DetailDSC04298.jpg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmXAntso934brnp9aBanavywdPud4ymMAwDyuxRmbS4cmq/GV-2018-DetailDSC04282.jpg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmZGKG4GvnVsegFj7PRn37eWn8AAvkpSqdRaHWHAPjSb4L/Banner.jpg" ,
"links":["https://vimeo.com/207428829",
"https://vimeo.com/timothymercenary",
"https://vimeo.com",
"https://dlive.io/video/rubencress/04bee870-20c0-11e8-be01-5bf7a6e5d482" "
