This seems to be related to last wednesday’s (March 7) public statement of the US security and Exchanges Commission that many of the cryptocurrencies,
ICOs and related services are working outside proper regulation and are fraudulent.

![Cryptocurrency Market Capitalizations (https://steemitimages.com/DQmPjKhT6KCUFarPwXcubnMEFGFzXFxF5e33aP77iTkrCa9/coinmarketcap.JPG)
**A snapshot of the cryptocurrencies value show a drop in most of them in the last 24hs**

As of recently,
my personal experience with google advertisement have been filled with cryptocurrency ads. And it’s impossible that people at google don’t have a solid grasp of cryptocurrency technology. This,
like the last crackdown on “fake” news,
seems a broad strokes attempt to appease legislators and protect the platform’s public image. What else will fall under this new policy? Classes on cryptocurrency? Cryptography books? Just like with attempts of curtailing “fake” news and “hate” speech there will be a lot of innocent bystanders that will suffer for it.

This is just one more evidence that having giants like facebook and alphabet running the internet is a bad thing. But is the balkanization of the internet over political lines any better? What other problems will we face regarding this?

Sources:

* [US Security and Exchanges Commission (https://www.sec.gov/news/public-statement/enforcement-tm-statement-potentially-unlawful-online-platforms-trading)
* [Google support on Adwords Financial Services Policy (https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/7648803?hl=en&ref_topic=29265)
* [Cryptocurrency Market Capitalizations (https://coinmarketcap.com/)",
"tags":["cryptocurrency",
"advertisement",
"google" ,
"image":["https://steemitimages.com/DQmPjKhT6KCUFarPwXcubnMEFGFzXFxF5e33aP77iTkrCa9/coinmarketcap.JPG" ,
"links":["https://www.sec.gov/news/public-statement/enforcement-tm-statement-potentially-unlawful-online-platforms-trading",
"https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/7648803?hl=en&ref_topic=29265",
"https://coinmarketcap.com/" ,
"app":"steemit/0.1",
"format":"markdown" "
