Usually I support those stories with some nice photos. I have though also shared some of the best filmed matches of selected tournaments + I am sure that we are going to start filming ourselves this season. That means that you will have access to great game footages through my blog. I have already explained the basic [rules of the game ( https://steemit.com/sports/@fingersik/ultimate-frisbee-a-sport-where-fair-mindedness-has-held-its-ground-my-possible-contribution-to-steemfest-2) and [the mechanism that enables us to play without referees ( https://steemit.com/sports/@fingersik/ultimate-frisbee-spirit-of-the-game). Knowing at least the basic strategies that can be executed on the field might increase the overall enjoyment for the viewers. Thus said,
let me present you the most basic strategy of them all – the vertical stack.
## Basic setup
---

![základ.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmSW2bfMKSHhgji7vbrYyDydrfAUDt1nby4Zg31uyHqGoe/z%C3%A1klad.png)

As you can see,
vertical stack really does look like a vertical stack. There of course is a theory behind the system. We want all the players in the middle of the filed in order to create space to cut in on the sides of the field,
as well as leaving space around the opponent’s endzone. Players 4-7 are cutters. Their responsibility is to gain yards. Players 1-3 are handlers. They are the best throwers on the fields with the responsibility to keep the disc alive (not letting the opposition to count to 10 seconds and by that causing a turnover).
## First move
---

![1.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmZK48YmLA7o5eUUyeygn3iUcLtbnoKnt2kLtjipkjDJ2P/1.png)

As you can see,
we are being forced to the left. That means that the defensive marker (number 1) is closing the right side,
thus leaving the thrower to pass to the left side freely. The rest of the defenders are then stacked on the left,
making it hard for us to cut into that space. Nevertheless,
the cutters have to try to make themselves open in the open side. Closed side has to be kept free for the handlers,
so they can easily reset there (it’s much easier to throw close-distance passes to the closed side).

We always want the furthest player to start cutting into the open side. He has 2 options. He can either follow the black line (faking deep cut and going under) or the red line (faking under and then running for deep pass). Such a cut is usually easy to defend,
because the defenders can effectively switch the players. Nonetheless it is a crucial cut that starts the whole flow.
## The reset
---

![2.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmUJLZgUmjA8GTuEicqxX4txPJfvP4kc2EHmBv1rkvJUWe/2.png)

It is likely that the first cut will not work out. In this example the defenders managed to effectively switch the players and stopped the possible first pass. That forces us to reset. That is why we have player 2 behind the thrower. It is quite easy to get open there (following the black line) and catch the disc. If that doesn’t work out the player can still cut to the other side (red line). If this doesn’t work out the offence is usually in trouble.
## The break ladder
---

![3.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmNxu4p3Wp7wSad4o2ukL1AxPtijVLPSns8z7EjzqQArXz/3.png)

When we manage to get the disc into the break side,
we effectively make ALL THE DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OUT OF POSITION. We have to use that to our advantage and that is usually done through a “break ladder”. We want the furthest player to cut to the open side,
BUT we want the CLOSEST player to follow up to the break side. In this case our number 3 has an easy follow up cut to the break side.
## The deep cut
---

![4.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmNfQNMdoHj9VaACXaqXeKXhVMwH387jkH41Yb6sGJpNx3/4.png)

As you can see number 3 did just that and now is in a perfect position to throw a deep pass. This position is called a “power position”. That means that the defender is out of position and is not able to block a deep pass (which requires a bigger “load” time). If the deep cutter doesn’t manage to get open. We can simply continue the “break ladder”.
## Get the players in front of the disc
---

![5.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmYXuZcwaq7oriXLBcp74Us7mvhMZkUQYaUX5yMbFkFgWm/5.png)

Unfortunately the defender number 7 is effectively defending deep passes and we had to follow the break ladder. Now we have made quite some yards,
but we have majority of the players behind the disc where they are useless. Now is the time to form up once again in the middle of the field.
## Vertical stack
---

![6.png (https://steemitimages.com/DQmVYWub3CakNNSYWkjERagbTkF579VdbWnZKLPnNnSaVs7/6.png)

It usually takes about 2-4 seconds to form up the vertical stack again. That forces us to leave out the cut from the back of the stack and we just continue with the reset. Repeat this until we reach the endzone! That is it. You were just told how to execute the most basic Ultimate Frisbee strategy.

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmP5UjMYs2Etq5LHZni4QASouDxH6cCSTHTFuLJr6Tvtzx/follow_fingersik.gif
",
"tags":["sports",
"sndbox",
"ultimate",
"frisbee",
"strategy" ,
"image":["http://ultimatefrisbeehq.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/grass1.jpg",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmSW2bfMKSHhgji7vbrYyDydrfAUDt1nby4Zg31uyHqGoe/z%C3%A1klad.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmZK48YmLA7o5eUUyeygn3iUcLtbnoKnt2kLtjipkjDJ2P/1.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmUJLZgUmjA8GTuEicqxX4txPJfvP4kc2EHmBv1rkvJUWe/2.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmNxu4p3Wp7wSad4o2ukL1AxPtijVLPSns8z7EjzqQArXz/3.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmNfQNMdoHj9VaACXaqXeKXhVMwH387jkH41Yb6sGJpNx3/4.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmYXuZcwaq7oriXLBcp74Us7mvhMZkUQYaUX5yMbFkFgWm/5.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/DQmVYWub3CakNNSYWkjERagbTkF579VdbWnZKLPnNnSaVs7/6.png",
"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmP5UjMYs2Etq5LHZni4QASouDxH6cCSTHTFuLJr6Tvtzx/follow_fingersik.gif" ,
"links":["http://ultimatefrisbeehq.com/ultimate-frisbee-plays/",
"https://steemit.com/sports/@fingersik/ultimate-frisbee-a-sport-where-fair-mindedness-has-held-its-ground-my-possible-contribution-to-steemfest-2",
"https://steemit.com/sports/@fingersik/ultimate-frisbee-spirit-of-the-game" ,
"app":"steemit/0.1",
"format":"markdown" "
