Over 200 versions in English alone! I've used them in my Sunday School lectures to make them more "student friendly" and typically only quote the King James Version (KJV) when I want to emphasize its wonderfully poetic way of phrasing things.

This Sunday,
I'll be apologizing to my students about that.

http://www.av1611.org/images/nkjv2a.jpg

**coun ter feit** \\'kaunt-er-fit\\: to imitate or copy closely

especially with intent to deceive.

**What changed my mind?**

Well,
this week a Steemet blogger linked to a high quality documentary which details the not so subtle changes that _someone_ has been sneaking into these new translations. There's a suspiciously revisionist "New World Order" agenda. This started me down a new rabbit trail of research.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFtI_mVOXbQ

But why should I believe this particular documentary?
_What if it is the one with the agenda?_

Well,
It definitely _does_ have an anti-NWO agenda,
but I'm not taking any of its claims at face value. I'll just show you some of the differences it points out (which I,
of course,
verified) between between the KJV and the new translations and let that speak for itself.

The most popular English Bible translations in use today are listed below. The KJV has slipped to number two. The others I'll refer to pejoratively as the "New World Order" (NWO) translations. You'll soon see why.

1. **NIV** - New International Version
2. **KJV** - King James Version
3. **NLT** - New Living Translation
4. **NKJV** - New King James Version
5. **ESV** - English Standard Version

In the paragraphs that follow,
I'll point out some of the "scholarly changes" that have crept into the Bibles that most English speaking people use today. I fear that this will get worse at an accelerating pace in the years to come.

### Missing Verses

To start with,
I'll simply list the verses that have been completely left out of the leading NIV version:

**Matthew 17:21** Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
**Luke 17:36** Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken,
and the other left.
**Matthew 18:11** For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
**Matthew 23:14** But Jesus said,
Suffer little children,
and forbid them not,
to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
**Mark 7:16** If any man have ears to hear,
let him hear.
**Mark 9:44** Where their worm dieth not,
and the fire is not quenched.
**Mark 9:46** Where their worm dieth not,
and the fire is not quenched.
**Mark 11:26** But if ye do not forgive,
neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
**Mark 15:28** And the scripture was fulfilled,
which saith,
And he was numbered with the transgressors.
**Luke 23:17** (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
**John 5:4** For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool,
and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
**Acts 8:37** And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart,
thou mayest. And he answered and said,
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
**Acts 15:34** Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
**Acts 24:7** But the chief captain Lysias came upon us,
and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
**Acts 28:29** And when he had said these words,
the Jews departed,
and had great reasoning among themselves.
**Romans 16:24** 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Then there are the missing words. NKJV omits the word LORD 66 times,
removes God 51 times,
Heaven 50 times,
Repent 44,
The Blood 23 times,
and Hell 22 times.

Now,
some of these omissions may seem harmless enough,
but let's look closer at a few:

### Undermining Salvation by Faith Alone

**Acts 8:36-38** And as they went on their way,
they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said,
See,
here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? **And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart,
thou mayest. And he answered and said,
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.** And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water,
both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

The words in bold have been omitted in the NIV,
ESV,
and NLT. These are the words that set the conditions for being baptized and thus affect a) whether infant baptism makes any sense and b) the fact that all that is needed to be saved is to believe - undercutting the false doctrine of many churches that want to keep who can be saved firmly under their own hierarchical control.

### Undermining of the Clear Definition of the Trinity

**1 John 5:7 (KJV)** For there are three that bear record in heaven,
the Father,
the Word,
and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
**1 John 5:7 (NIV)** For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit,
the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

There's quite a doctrinal difference here,
wouldn't you agree?

### Undermining the Deity of Christ

**1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)** And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: **God was manifest in the flesh**,
justified in the Spirit,
seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world,
received up into glory.
**1 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)** Beyond all question,
the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: **He appeared in the flesh,
** was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.

I almost missed this one,
it was so subtle. The KJV states clearly that it was _God being manifest in the flesh_ where the others get rid of that clarity,
saying only that _He appeared in the flesh_. Anybody can appear in the flesh. Why leave out the uniquely important fact that it was God?

This is what we have come to expect from the Jehovah Witnesses who have a long history of modifying their New World Translation (NWT) to match their predetermined view that Jesus was not God. It used to be easy to prove Jesus was God using their own Bibles. Not so much any more.

**Hebrews 1:8 (KJV)** But **unto the Son** he saith,
Thy throne,
O God,
is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
**Hebrews 1:8 (NIV)** But **about the Son** he says,
"Your throne,
O God,
will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
**Hebrews 1:8 (NWT)** But **with reference to the Son** "God is your throne forever and ever and [the scepter of your kingdom is the scepter of uprightness"

The KJV has God directly addressing Jesus _as God_. The NIV makes that less clear. The NWT overturns it completely. Certainly this trend would make the Bible a bit more acceptable to Muslims,
Mormons and Jews as well. If the ecumenical community can just get Jesus back to being "one of the guys" world peace will be at hand!

### Undermining Jesus' Status as the Son of God

The King James Version is the only one that makes it clear that Joseph was _not_ Jesus father.

**Luke 2:33 (KJV)** And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
**Luke 2:33 (NIV)** The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
**Luke 2:33 (NLT)** Jesus' parents were amazed at what was being said about him.
**Luke 2:33 (ESV)** And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him.

Jesus actually rebuked his mother for using that same language a few verses later:

**Luke 2:48-49 (KJV)** And when they saw him,
they were amazed: and his mother said unto him,
Son,
why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold,
**thy father** and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them,
How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about **my Father's** business?

### Inserting References to a "New Order"

** Hebrews 9:10 (KJV) ** Which stood only in meats and drinks,
and divers washings,
and carnal ordinances,
imposed on them **until the time of reformation.**
** Hebrews 9:10 (NIV) ** They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the **new order.**

This may be a bit of a stretch,
but hey,
I'm now suspicious of every little thing.

### Changing Salvation from an Event to a Process

**1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV)** For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which **are saved** it is the power of God.
**1 Corinthians 1:18 (NLT)** The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who **are being saved** know it is the very power of God.
**1 Corinthians 1:18 (ESV)** For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who **are being saved** it is the power of God.

If you are "being saved" that means there are works you must do. If you "are saved" you are already a child of God and no one can snatch you out of His hand.

### Changing Salvation from Rare to Hard

**Matthew 7:14 (KJV)** Because strait is the gate,
and **narrow is the way**,
which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.
**Matthew 7:14 (NKJV)** Because narrow is the gate and **difficult is the way** which leads to life,
and there are few who find it.

What's the difference between "narrow" and "difficult"? Only the difference between faith based and works based salvation. Jesus said "I am the Way... No one comes to the Father but by me." He didn't say that the Way is something that requires hard work. Jesus says in Matt. 11:30,
"For my yoke is EASY,
and my burden is light." The only thing that may be difficult is setting aside our own agendas to embrace His.

There are [many more examples (http://www.av1611.org/nkjv.html),
but you get the idea.

### Bottom Line

Now,
you may conclude that a lot of these are rather subtle differences that you can live with. But they do show a general trend of gradually adjusting the theological underpinnings of the Christian faith using a proliferation of alternative "translations" as a smoke screen. With so many "plug and play" translations available these days,
it will not be hard for "liberal scholar mischief" to sneak in and lead people further and further away from Biblical truth.

Some say the New World Order will usher in a One World Government with a "One World Religion" watered down to a least common denominator that everyone can embrace (or else). If so,
you can certainly see how this emerging revisionist trend in the Bible would contribute to that strategy.

**I'll probably still use the suspicious NWO translations to make reading aloud easier for my students. But you can bet I'm checking everything against the good old King James from now on!**

> Beware of false prophets. They come to you _in sheep's clothing_,
but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

_In Part 2 I'll look at how we got the King James Version and why I believe it is the most reliable version for us common folks to use when the precise meaning of Scripture is desired. After all,
it was commissioned for the express purpose of discovering what the popes had wandered away from (under cover of Latin) through a thousand years of the aptly named Dark Ages._",
"tags":["christianity",
"bible",
"religion",
"jesus",
"god" ,
"image":["http://www.av1611.org/images/nkjv2a.jpg",
"links":["https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFtI_mVOXbQ",
"http://www.av1611.org/nkjv.html" " | vote |
|
