(http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/oblation\/2014\/04\/14\/holy-week-in-art-monday-daniel-f-gerhartzs-forgiven\/)\n# The sinful woman at Jesus' feet\n### Washing Jesus' feet expensive perfume\n\n The Anointing in Galilee\n 36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him,<br> \n and He went into the Pharisee\u2019s house [in the region of Galilee \n and reclined at the table. \n 37 Now there was a woman in the city who \n was [known as a sinner; and when she found out that He \n was reclining at the table in the Pharisee\u2019s house,<br> she brought an \n alabaster vial of perfume; \n 38 and standing behind Him at His feet,<br> \n weeping,<br> she began wetting His feet with her tears,<br> and wiped them \n with the hair of her head,<br> and [respectfully kissed His feet [as an act \n signifying both affection and submission and anointed them with \n the perfume. \n 39 Now when [Simon the Pharisee who had invited Him \n saw this,<br> he said to himself,<br> \u201cIf this Man were a prophet He would know \n who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him,<br> that she is a\n [notorious sinner [an outcast,<br> devoted to sin .\u201d\n\n Parable of Two Debtors\n 40 Jesus,<br> answering,<br> said to the Pharisee,<br> \u201cSimon,<br> I have something to say \n to you.\u201d And he replied,<br> \u201cTeacher,<br> say it.\u201d \n 41 \u201cA certain moneylender had \n two debtors: one owed him five hundred [h denarii,<br> and the other fifty.\n 42 When they had no means of repaying [the debts ,<br> he freely forgave\n them both. So which of them will love him more?\u201d \n 43 Simon answered,<br> \u201cThe one,<br> I take it,<br> \n for whom he forgave more.\u201d Jesus said to him,<br> \u201cYou have decided correctly.\u201d \n 44 Then turning toward the woman,<br> He said to Simon,<br> \u201cDo you see this woman? I \n came into your house [but you failed to extend to Me the usual courtesies shown \n to a guest ; you gave Me no water for My feet,<br> but she has wet My feet with \n her tears and wiped them with her hair [demonstrating her love . \n 45 You gave Me no [welcoming kiss,<br> but from the moment I came in,<br> \n she has not ceased to kiss My feet. \n 46 You did not [even anoint My head with [ordinary oil,<br> but she \n has anointed My feet with [costly and rare perfume. \n 47 Therefore I say to you,<br> her sins,<br> which are many,<br> are forgiven,<br> \n for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little,<br> loves little.\u201d \n 48 Then He said to her,<br> \u201cYour sins are forgiven.\u201d \n 49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began saying among\n themselves,<br> \u201cWho is this who even forgives sins?\u201d \n 50 Jesus said to the woman,<br> \u201cYour faith [in Me \n has saved you; go in peace [free from the distress experienced \n because of sin .\u201d\n Luke 7:36-50\n## A few thoughts from the text\n### What or who do I seek?\n Am I the woman conscious of my personal sin? \n Am I so conscious of my sin,<br> that I am overwhelmed by \n the mercy that I have been extended?\n Am I seeking not only mercy \n but the Provider of mercy?\n### What will I give? \n To whom?\n For what?\n Will I give the best I have? \n### How do I respond?\n To a sinner?\n Respond to one seeking to repent?\n To someone befriending a sinner?\n### Am I a Pharisee?\n Do I evaluate the preacher?\n Do I dissect the messenger before weighing the message?\n-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n# [Whose feet will you wash today?
