Within a short period the faster-growing types will need to be repotted. The plant can be transferred safely and will grow on without a check.

The first requirement is to select a suitable container. Pots are available in a range of sizes and shapes,
and consideration should be given to choosing one to complement the plant. Usually the new pot will need to be a little larger than the original,
though slow growing plants may be repotted into the same size,
merely replacing the exhausted compost with fresh material. Generally the plant should look 'balanced' and in harmony with its pot.

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdoijyj1RBXbQ4CwqcfAzNSNt3Y7BrjTzY6Gr7tkawNZy/IMG_20180812_162442.JPG

The plant should be watered the day before it is to be repotted,
so that the compost is moist but not wet. This will make removal of the old
pot easier. The fresh compost should also be uniformly moist. A handful picked up and gently squeezed should cling together,
but should crumble apart when dropped back on to the heap.

To remove a small plant from its pot,
place a hand over the compost,
arranging the fingers around the base of the plant if possible. If the size or shape of the plant body prevents this,
place the hand on top of the plant or around the stem. If all else fails,
it may be necessary to break the pot.

The new pot is prepared by placing a small quantity of drainage material in the form of coarse peat,
small pebbles,
chippings or dried
leaves in the bottom. If the drainage holes are large it may be necessary to cover them first with something that will retain the finer compost but allow surplus water to escape.

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQma2TCnWs99gQ69SERs1CsnHU77uHyNCTwMgZm9GqLmgGB/IMG_20180812_161317.jpg

The plant is then suspended such that when the container is filled the new compost will be at the same level on the plant body as was the original. It is very important that the plant body is not buried too deeply,
which may induce rot,
and that the roots are not left partly exposed.

Fresh compost can now be trickled around the plant,
taking care that the roots are not forced into a bunch in the centre of the pot but remain spread out. When the pot is full,
the compost can be firmed gently with the fingers or by tapping the pot on the bench. The compost must not be compacted as this will damage the roots.

It is better not to water the plant for a week or so after repotting to allow time for any damage to heal and new roots to begin to form. If the weather is particularly warm,
it may be advantageous to spray the plant body to prevent desiccation.

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbhrznVS1a9WTshXhCoiUQ7siuwv4cENM7sD2nybyWbw3/IMG_20180812_161138.jpg

Repotting can be carried out at any time of year,
but it is best done at the start of the growing season. This gives the plant the best possible chance of reestablishing itself quickly and growing away without a check. Plants repotted during their resting period should be left without water until they begin to show signs of fresh growth.

https://myriamir.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/barre-separation-blog-photo_284179_6816426_201003141546719-big.gif

Who am I?

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQup3Kp58LWnn9aq7G4Ax4TznBqHzQ7wGVBpkDCj4eLpc/1523085172590.jpg

As I mentioned in my profile,
I use this blog to share some tips and tricks.
