The weather couldn't have been better. I brought along my camera with a small zoom lens and wound up getting some nice wildlife shots. The highlight was definitely the snake. This was the first time I'd seen one on this river and I've canoed here a good few times. Info on each picture is in the captions. \n\nI've been home from Thailand since Saturday and it's been great. Right now I'm visiting Michigan with my mom and sister. It's really nice having days that aren't scorching hot and humid. \n\n![P1199537.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmNsTEMe9BxdyC8PKqpBbfNGzLB8PRKZv2s7wgXDpSUHN8\/P1199537.jpg)\nWe saw this snake pretty early in the day. I believe it's either a Northern Water Snake or a Copper Bellied Water Snake.\n\n![P1199638.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmViK6yi1ftjCrrs9jRjVzyErei6FnkJzWqvnYimkwpkPW\/P1199638.jpg)\nIt's late in the season but this doe was very pregnant. She was watching us from pretty close by but didn't move,
probably because she couldn't. \n\n![P1199593.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmU5d1VwFWazLKFUi6qgHzevwg45VSuX5k3pLQg3HbH7PV\/P1199593.jpg)\nNormally you see hundreds of turtles as you paddle down this river. We saw very few today,
maybe because canoes in front of us scared them off. I was hoping to get some photos of the large softshell turtles that live here,
but no dice. \n\n![P1199575.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmeSP9MEWQmwaAh6i9sbsaN3eqg8WPRqEa9BH5GeQTtGXh\/P1199575.jpg)\nThis heron was putting on a show. Every time we got within 40 meters or so,
it would fly a little ways downstream,
then wait for us to get close,
then do it again. \n\n![P1199573.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmZ53pKbyyJUYVt4a5BNYBBcLep81axqCjb1pK4Tj7LiyW\/P1199573.jpg)\nThis was the best shot I got of it,
with a gaggle of Canada Geese and their goslings in front.\n\n![P1199525.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmVatqE81oYV4myGEtMusJWQdjQNiMQ9tp3ZyMxyDtqmAw\/P1199525.jpg)\nDidn't see any ducks in the river today but did see this mallard fly overhead.\n\n![P1199504.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmdQpMsTEYndBkMjAFv6xBHW6KPBPyGu9AG8zHSaUGQ4WN\/P1199504.jpg)\nNot sure what this is,
some type of hawk I think. \n\n![P1199584.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmRbwqRiprqWaj63ea11xDAFroVNXj6wLeAu6YRMRkbYbr\/P1199584.jpg)\nThe Huron River is definitely not a wilderness area. This is just about 10 miles upriver from Ann Arbor. But you wouldn't know it for most of this stretch. It's beautiful,
and the only sounds you hear are the river and the birds.\n\n![P1199590.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmXrWPDYtAgVXFqQ6Wd5Wo6dFVwcQWnFoNYEB6SSWVzaHk\/P1199590.jpg)\nThere were a lot of Red Winged Black Birds but I never managed a photo of one. I did get this Cardinal... \n\n\n![P1199600.jpg (https:\/\/cdn.steemitimages.com\/DQmbudS5oEx2mgGooQrzpZpknKaKEB9DJzBGxuAWzhGiBDh\/P1199600.jpg)\nAnd a not great shot of this Blue Jay.\n\nIt was really a perfect day on the river with good people,
good food,
good beer,
and beautiful nature all around us.
