| comment | | "parent_author":"",<br>"parent_permlink":"cannabis",<br>"author":"alphaccino.art",<br>"permlink":"the-dawning-of-a-new-age",<br>"title":"The Dawning of a New Age",<br>"body":"View this post on Hive: [The Dawning of a New Age (https:\/\/peakd.com\/@alphaccino.art\/the-dawning-of-a-new-age)\n\n***\n\nSaturday,<br> 1 February 2020\n\nToday marks the dawning of a new era for Canberra with laws now in effect that allow people in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) to legally own and use cannibis,<br> becoming the first jurisdiction in Australia to do so.\n\n---\n\n![This might have to wait until after lunch... lol (https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/9IHe7gV.jpg)\n\n---\n\nFrom February 1st,<br> people over the age of 18 are allowed to possess up to 50 grams (1.75 ounce) of cannabis for personal use and grow two plants,<br> with a maximum of four plants per household.\n\nHowever,<br> it's important to note that hydroponic set-ups are illegal as is buying any part of the plant,<br> including seeds; even sharing a joint is viewed as supply which is still considered an offense.\n\nTo the unsuspecting visitors,<br> **use of the drug in public** is still **banned**,<br> so don't go lighting up at any public events and of course,<br> **driving under the influence** is still a big No-No (*taken with a side-note of caution,<br> as we also have a very active highway patrol,<br> fully equipped to perform side-of-road drug-testing!*)\n\nOf course,<br> 'exposing a child to the drug' remains an offence under the new laws,<br> and rightfully so IMHO.\n\nThe new state laws are in direct conflict with the current federal laws where possessing cannabis remains a criminal offense however the 'powers that be' say that it would be a 'strange use' of police resources to pursue federal charges. \n\nAlthough,<br> from personal experience,<br> I think it would depend on the situation,<br> the arresting officer and how they felt about you on the day... (a tad too cynical?? nah,<br> probs not)\n\n---\n\n![A 'Small Celebration' Bud (https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/C8ebkMQ.jpg)\n\n---\n\nSoooo,<br> what are the main take-away's... whilst in Canberra,<br> enjoy your weed legally,<br> from the privacy of your own (or a friends) home... but DON'T SHARE it with your friends,<br> DON'T SELL it to your friends and DON'T DRIVE while under the influence... and of course,<br> it goes without saying...
