| comment | | "parent_author":"",<br>"parent_permlink":"photography",<br>"author":"alphaccino.art",<br>"permlink":"suspect-4-crassula-ovata",<br>"title":"Suspect 4: Crassula Ovata",<br>"body":"View this post on Hive: [Suspect 4: Crassula Ovata (https:\/\/peakd.com\/@alphaccino.art\/suspect-4-crassula-ovata)\n\n***\n\n*a.k.a. jade plant,<br> lucky plant,<br> money plant or money tree*\n\n---\n\n![Red-tinged leaves (https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/C2QC7zO.jpg)\n\n---\n\nAfter learning that the common name for this plant was *Jade*,<br> I was a bit confused because when I was younger *(so much younger than today)*,<br> my parents owned a really large,<br> potted Jade that sat on our back patio for years... however,<br> it looked nothing like the new one and I could easily tell that they were two,<br> very different plants.\n\nAlthough,<br> with a little research,<br> I discovered that the **Crassula Ovata** is the true *Jade* while the plant I'd grown-up with,<br> was in fact,<br> a *Dwarf Jade* or **Portulacaria afra**\n\n---\n\n![Crassula Ovata (Jade Plant) (https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/e0Tbtny.jpg)\n\n---\n\nThe Crassula Ovata is a well-known houseplant,<br> gaining popularity due to it's low maintenance and it's ability to survive in most conditions,<br> indoors and outdoors.\n\nUnfortunately *(for me)* the only condition that it definitely won't survive is a winter frost... so,<br> I guess I'll be buying another 'decorative' pot because this will need to be placed into larger pot so that it too,<br> can be brought under-cover during the winter months.\n\n---\n\n![New leaves growing in crossed-pairs (https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/8sey0Nm.jpg)\n\n---\n\nAnyhoo,<br> it was a bit of a bummer to learn this because *(like usual)* I'd already jumped the gun and considered a permanent spot in the garden... only to find out that it wouldn't have been the best plan after all. \n\nOh well,<br> ya always gotta look on the bright side... and at least I found this out before any planting started.\n\nUntil next time... xxx\n\nPS.
