If you are conjuring up visions of hippies on a commune farming together,
I am afraid you are going to have to think again. It is a little more scientific than that,
but not in a scary way!!

All we really have to do to learn about growing food is ask the head gardener – nature itself. Studying natural ecosystems can reveal everything we need to know about growing food – after all,
it is been doing it much longer than we’ve!

Lets look at it this way; compare the vegetable plot to a rainforest. In the rainforest,
each component interacts with every other component allowing the rainforest to sustain itself. Nature does not allow empty spaces,
if something is removed therefore creating an empty space,
then something else will quickly grow in it is place,
dormant seeds will soon spring to life even if they’re decade old.

ORGANIC GARDENING

The same principle happens in the vegetable plot,
there are always empty spaces,
usually between neat rows of vegetables,
but again,
nature does not allow empty spaces and so dormant seeds suddenly become alive,
of course these are more commonly referred to as weeds! In fact they’re very good space fillers,
the ultimate in colonising plants,
so you can see that there is no difference between nature at work in the Rainforest and nature at work in the vegetable patch.

So here’s the answer to the question – Ecological gardening is a way for us to create a system where nature works for you and not against you for a change. It is actually quite easy to have a weed free garden – all you have to do is to avoid those empty spaces in the first place but if one does become available,
you should make sure that there is something desirable to fill it before the weeds get there first. And that is just one way that ecological gardening can work in your favour,
it can easily prevent a number of problems from ever arising.

The real goal is to be able to combine weed management,
soil ecology,
pest ecology and crop management into one effective method,
thus creating a garden that requires very little attention and produces much more than a traditional vegetable garden usually does. Surely if this is the case then it will not be long before Ecological Gardening is the way forward for future food production.",
"tags":["ecological",
"gardening",
"garden",
"life",
"food" ,
"app":"steemit/0.1",
"format":"markdown" " | vote |
|
