The footage of her was recorded by the director some years before her death,
while the rest was recorded after her death with the knowledge of her being assassinated. \n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/Sa0h6ca.jpg\n\nAnna Politkovskaya worked as a correspondent for a newspaper and was outspokenly critical of the soviet system. She was particularly important in the coverage of the Russian interventions in Czecnya in the 1990\u00b4s. She already had the attention of the system already back then since someone tried to poison her when she went to cover the the Beslan terror attack.\n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/nevra46.jpg\n\nIn the early footage we get to know a bit more about Anna and by her own words what drives her ambitions. She is a real truth-seeker and feels an urge to point out what happens in reality rather than serve the politically correct version,
that the system may like. \n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/bdOBgYS.jpg\n\nShe is absolutely aware that her job comes with a constant death-threat from the powers that be. She thinks herself lucky that she has not been killed yet. We are served with a few candidly recorded tapes from the Czechnya interventions and how the soldiers basically performed a democide. \n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/aiRIMb0.jpg\n\nThe post assassination recordings interviews various persons and family around her. We get descriptions of her from her daughter and her colleagues. We do get some sporadic indications of who she is,
but generally the mix of the two batches of film breaks up the flow of the story and it feels like patchwork.\n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/MBoMQPb.jpg\n\ni am left with the feeling that the director had these rather amateurish and rather uninteresting recordings of Ana lying around and when she was shot in Moskva in 2006 and the international press jumped on the case,
he suddenly realized the potential of the footage and then went and recorded a bit more to complete it as a documentary.\n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/eLlO9Yw.jpg\n\nI must admit i had higher hopes for this film. The story is interesting but we never get down below the surface on either her person,
her journalism and most notably not her death either,
as the title may indicate. The standard of the english narration by the director (i suppose) is below par and gives it all a dilettante feel that removes you even further from engaging in the film. I cannot recommend this film to the casual film lover. If you are a documentary fanatic or have a special interest in this specific case,
I guess it can be of some use.\n\nhttp:\/\/i.imgur.com\/5p9g1eX.jpg\n\nRating: 3\/10\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gky5I7U_LFo",
"json_metadata":" \"tags\":[\"film\",
\"movies\",
\"moviereview\",
\"filmreview\",
\"art\" ,
\"image\":[\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/Sa0h6ca.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/nevra46.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/bdOBgYS.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/aiRIMb0.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/MBoMQPb.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/eLlO9Yw.jpg\",
\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/5p9g1eX.jpg\",
\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/gky5I7U_LFo\/0.jpg\" ,
\"links\":[\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gky5I7U_LFo\" " | vote | "voter":"mandibil", "author":"mandibil", "permlink":"letter-to-anna-the-story-of-journalist-politkovskaya-s-death-eric-bergkraut-2008-film-review-by-mandibil", "weight":10000 |
