Internet providers have been living the high life for 2 months now due to companies buying slowdowns. Citizens are not happy about the decrease of the internet speed and are generally frustrated with the current system. One person,
in particular,
is not satisfied with the choices of the government,
his name is Kevin. A month ago Kevin lost his job at an internet streaming service due to the slowdowns that have been happening,
the business has gone bankrupt and now Kevin has no funding to keep himself afloat. The only logical thing he could do is to find a different job,
but it is not as easy as you might think because he does not have any access to the internet. So what he decides to do is way more daring. He will hire himself as a contractor to infiltrate the headquarters of internet providers and force them to stop the slowdowns in hopes of becoming a hero of the people. Tough as he had expected this will not be an easy job for him.\n\n5:30 AM,
the streets are empty no one in sight for at least 2 miles. Kevin is packing his bags to head out to the nearest internet provider. Without a plan,
without equipment,
without thinking it through,
he heads off in the direction of the buildings. He soon realizes that he will need some firepower to get into the building and to be able to convince anyone at all. Thankfully he knows a guy named Philip who own's a gun shop near his house,
so he decides to head off to there. \n\n6:00 AM,
Kevin enters the gun shop. Philip jumps up from his chair in excitement to see Kevin for the first time in years,
but something has changed. Philip immediately notices that Kevin is stuttering and nervous. Kevin starts talking to Philip about the guns in his shop. As soon as he started talking Philip was sure of the fact that Kevin is here to buy a firearm. Philip was quite surprised but didn't think much of it. He explained what the guns were and how they work. Kevin whipped out some cash and put it on the counter in front of him. Philip was hesitant but sold the gun to Kevin in the end. \n\n![inside-1499607_1280.jpg (https:\/\/steemitimages.com\/DQmRqtHALyfCJqcgnv6566Pdkgz27KiW31jwxpHqxDhbXPQ\/inside-1499607_1280.jpg)\n\n7:00 AM,
the sun has just gone up and people are starting to flued the streets. Kevin stressed and overwhelmed starts making his way to office buildings. He does not know what to expect when he arrives,
but the only thing that's bothering him is that he might not survive,
judging by the fact that he has a gun in his backpack with which he will try to convince the workers to stop all slowdowns. With no clear plan,
he enters the building. He notices that no one has yet spotted him and runs in a corner to take out his gun. One worker has noticed someone in the corner and got suspicious,
sadly for the worker that's the one thing he did not want to know. Everyone started screaming and panicking,
that was not what Kevin had in mind because now there was no one to stop the slowdowns,
so he quickly grabbed a guy by the arm and pulled him back to the computer he was sitting at and told him to stop all slowdowns or he will shoot. Though he was not actually here to kill anyone,
he thought it would be a good way to scare them.\n\n7:30 AM,
police have just arrived at the scene of the crime. Kevin had just gotten the worker to stop the slowdowns and he was pleased with what he has achieved,
though not everyone would agree with him. Especially the police,
there were about 4 or 5 policemen standing outside of the building,
Kevin knew he was not going to get out. It's all over for him,
but not the people,
the internet is back to normal thanks to Kevin. Kevin stood up to the government,
even though he took the worst decision of all when he could have just politically taken care of this problem. Kevin now is in prison for 8 to 9 years. There is no way back,
the internet is what people rely on every day,
you cannot take that away from them if you want this world to be a safe place.\n\nThe End",
"json_metadata":" \"tags\":[\"story\",
\"net\",
\"neutrality\" ,
\"image\":[\"https:\/\/steemitimages.com\/DQmRqtHALyfCJqcgnv6566Pdkgz27KiW31jwxpHqxDhbXPQ\/inside-1499607_1280.jpg\" ,
\"app\":\"steemit\/0.1\",
\"format\":\"markdown\" " | vote | "voter":"hisir", "author":"hisir", "permlink":"the-story-of-net-neutrality", "weight":10000 |
