But before you start diving into truly horrifying films,<br> ease yourself in with some horror comedies.\n\nHorcoms (my term,<br> hands off,<br> I\u2019m branding it) take the absurd elements of horror movies and play them for laughs. Everyone seems to love *Shaun of the Dead*,<br> *Tremors* and *Evil Dead II*,<br> but here\u2019s some of the best that you may have overlooked or forgotten.\n\n# Zombieland (2009)\nhttp:\/\/media.comicbook.com\/2016\/09\/movies-based-video-games-zombieland-left-4-dead-197716-1280x0.jpg\nThis popular film follows skittish and nerdy Columbus (Jesse Eisenburg) as he tries to return to his hometown to see if his family has survived the zombie outbreak. On his journey,<br> he teams up with the Twinkie-loving,<br> zombie-killing savant Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and the scheming duo of Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). They work together to make the best of the terror and dangers that surround them and the violence is played for humor rather than horror.\n\n***\n\n# Slither (2006)\nhttp:\/\/images.contentful.com\/7h71s48744nc\/1iBXpLetko8eEQa0mA4oQs\/eeb92effd97743ba44b52a49e3949eb6\/slither.jpg\nBefore writer\/director James Gunn brought Guardians of the Galaxy to life,<br> he brought us the charmingly grotesque film *Slither*. In this film,<br> an alien slug lands on earth outside a small Texas town and infects the people,<br> using them as puppets and incubators to grow more slugs. Its disgusting,<br> but hilarious and features a great cast including Michael Rooker,<br> Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks.\n\n***\n\n# Return of the Living Dead (1985)\n*Currently streaming on Vudu and Tubi Tv (ad supported)*\nhttp:\/\/bh-s2.azureedge.net\/bh-uploads\/2016\/07\/return-of-the-living-dead-1200x675.jpg\nThe origin of the idea that zombies crave human brains,<br> this film from the 80\u2019s is the oldest of my recommendations. In this movie,<br> a zombie outbreak is started when a chemical weapon is accidentally released at a mortuary,<br> spreading to the nearby graveyard and bringing the dead back to life. This movie gets its laughs not from jokes,<br> but from the physical comedy and absurdity of the situations the characters find themselves in. Definitely a horror comedy classic.\n\n***\n\n# Cabin in the Woods (2011)\nhttp:\/\/cdn.collider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cabin-in-the-woods-movie-image-1.jpg\nWith smart writing from Joss Whedon,<br> *Cabin in the Woods* is a very tongue-in-cheek roast of horror movie cliches. Its hard to say too much about this film without spoiling the premise,<br> but the story follows a very stereotypical group of college kids (including Chris Helmsworth) on a camping trip into the woods. However,<br> after the curtain is peeled back there\u2019s an overwhelming amount of references and clever ideas that will please any horror movie buff. If you\u2019re a horror fan,<br> this is an absolute must-see.\n\n***\n\n# Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)\n*Currently streaming on Netflix,<br> Hulu and Shudder*\nhttp:\/\/www.asset1.net\/tv\/pictures\/movie\/tucker-and-dale-vs-evil-2010\/Tucker-and-Dale-vs-Evil-DI.jpg\nTaking the murderous hillbillies trope and turning it on its head,<br> *Tucker and Dale vs. Evil* takes two very likable and friendly hicks,<br> played wonderfully by Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk,<br> and throws them into a scenario where a group of college kids think these guys kidnapped one of their friends and took her back to their cabin. In reality,<br> they saved her life when she fell into the lake and hit her head. As they nurse her back to health,<br> her friends scheme how to save her from who they assume are crazy killer rednecks,<br> but inadvertently off themselves one by one through self-inflicted accidents leading the heroes to think the college kids are in a suicide cult.
