In it,
we knew an effective forensic specialist in blood. A man with a seemingly normal life: a girlfriend,
a sister,
friends ... but Dexter hid another face under his mask of respectable citizen. He needed to kill,
under a moral code marked by his father,
he took the lives of all those people who,
according to his norms,
had to disappear from society. So appeasing his hunger to murder.\n\nIs there then a new recognized disorder based on this fictional character? Of course not. However,
the character of this interesting serial killer defines a fairly frequent reality among our population: alexithymia. \n\nDexter disorder or the inability to show emotions\nIf you know the safe series you remember the first seasons. Those in which Dexter,
hardly maintained a curious courtship with Rita. In his narrations in the first person,
we saw the complex dilemmas he presented before situations he did not quite understand. He knew that he should camouflage himself and,
therefore,
follow the \"rituals\" typical of other people.\n\nI had to embrace,
comfort,
support and show emotions that I did not understand. Because Dexter lacked empathy and did not quite understand all those \"mating rituals\". This character suffered what is commonly known as \"alexithymia\". That is,
the inability to recognize and express feelings.\n\nBut the Showtime series was only fiction and in numerous moments we could guess some sincere emotion on the part of Dexter,
hence the union between the audience and the character. But the label is already defined,
so lately,
the word \"Dexter disorder\" is being popularized to talk about people who have alexithymia.\n\nBut what is alexithymia really? It is a neurological disorder. A maladaptive psychological process focused on the inability to identify,
express and describe emotions and feelings . You may have been surprised at the word \"neurological disorder\",
but it is. There are brain structures that work differently in patients who have alexithymia. Neurologists tell us that there are very definite anomalies in those areas responsible for analyzing and formulating emotions. They work at very low intensity.\n\nIt must be said that there are also different degrees of alexithymia. We can find really cold and patient people who only have a certain social maladjustment ,
a certain hermeticism that does not become so serious as to prevent you from having friends or even from a couple. It is also known that the vast majority of people who have an autistic spectrum also have alexithymia. It can also suffer from people suffering from Parkinson's,
multiple sclerosis or with various brain tumors. There where certain areas of the brain are affected and,
therefore,
a deficit arises at emotional level.\n\nAn alexithymic does not know what words to use to express his emotions or feelings. It is not a disease,
it is a problem,
a limitation to relate to others and to live entirely with oneself. We just have to remember Dexter. Socially acted by \"mimicry\",
that is,
imitating the behavior of others. But we have to do once more an important concretion. The person afflicted with alexithymia \"feels\" but does not understand what is happening inside him.\n\nCan you fall in love? Of course. Can he suffer? Of course. The alexithymic notices that knot in his stomach when something angers him,
he perceives the acceleration of his heart when someone attracts him,
his voice gets stuck when sadness drowns him ... That is,
his body suffers from emotions,
but his brain does not understand what happens or find words to express what he feels. Nor does he understand the behavior of others. It will not capture nuances,
details that ultimately build a healthy relationship.\n\nIt's like living in a strange prison where others move normally and demand things that he or she does not quite understand. The alexithymic feels trapped and does not know how to channel all that volcano of sensations that he has inside him. It is something complex and even dramatic for those who live it and those around it.\n\nBut let's highlight an important aspect: someone who suffers from alexithymia does not derive from the violence that Dexter felt. Absolutely. Dexter syndrome focuses only on the efforts made by the character to \"adapt\",
to struggle in an emotional world that he did not fully understand and in which he must survive.\n\nCurious,
do not you think? Do you know someone who has alexithymia?",
"json_metadata":" \"tags\":[\"medical\",
\"health\",
\"life\" ,
\"image\":[\"https:\/\/steemitimages.com\/DQmTExYUqHfWjbZPb3u7fCqXkA9XAmuuNWLQiAVfYryjpDT\/1.jpg\" ,
\"app\":\"steemit\/0.1\",
\"format\":\"markdown\" " |
