The ides of March is the 15th day of the month and it has been recorded in history as the day of the assassination of Julius Caesar,
at 44 BCE.
Of course,
such an important day has been a source of inspiration for many great artists throughout history. Maybe the best known work is the tragedy “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare; in there is written the verse “Beware the ides of March”. The Greek poet Cavafy has written an allegorical poem,
with the name of the day as a title,
in which the poet is using historical persons and events as symbols to communicate the message he wants to pass on to the reader. Personally,
this date first came to attention through the song of Iron Maiden.
This image is my personal contribution in tribute to the historical events of the day. The knife is the instrument of the assassination,
the red cloth is the blood of the victim and the black stripe to the right,
the darkness brought on by death. The creation of the photo was an inspiration of the moment,
in order to make something more meaningful than just share an existing work of art.",
"tags":["photography",
"greek-trail",
"wwtop5pix",
"photofeed",
"history" ,
"image":["https://steemitimages.com/DQmTS8e1mFMe33uMDfNa5B1TczhUtmmRrY4ocRtWUshvTAq/The-Ides-of-March-1.jpg" ,
"app":"steemit/0.1",
"format":"markdown" " | vote |
|
