This is a huge step in the right direction, and many other countries have been following suit.\n\nCanadians have been protesting, creating petitions and spreading awareness on the issue for quite a while. Canadian companies such as Lush and The Body Shop have public petitons in each of their stores for customers to sign, as well as offering a complete line of products that are 100% cruelty free.\n\n![image.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWDhkqvDs9A6ct7m4PHisi1qsZ7DNsaB77nzNh9REc59v/image.jpeg)\n\nWell, thanks to these companies for being a mainstream outlet of protest against animal cruelty as well as thousands of Canadians that strived for cosmetic testing on animals to be illegal in Canada, it finally happened!\n\nBill S-214, which is the Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, was just passed by the Senate. The bill will now move forward to the House of Commons before it becomes law.\n\nThe bill essentially states that cosmetic animal testing and the sale of cosmetics developed or manufactured using animal testing is prohibited in the country. To push for the bill to be passed, a nation-wide campaign was created and those who support it were asked to write to their provincial senator in hopes that they would push for the bill to be passed. The two cars are believed to have belonged to the child’s father Rab and grandfather Calum.\n\nOn Wednesday evening, Police Scotland said they had arrested a male on suspicion of murder, and said he was under the age of 18.\n\nSenior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Stuart Houston said: “The response to our earlier public appeals has been significant.\n\"However, despite this evening’s major development, I am still appealing for anyone who was in the Ardbeg Road area of Bute on Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday and who may have information about Alesha’s death to contact us.\n\"Anyone who has CCTV at their home or business, or indeed any motorists with dashcam footage which might help with our investigation are also urged to get in touch.\"\n\nOfficers have urged island residents to be vigilant about the safety of their children and the security of their homes.\n\nOn Tuesday, Det Supt Stuart Houston said: “Alesha’s family is utterly devastated and we are continuing to provide them with the support they require at this incredibly distressing time.\n“Alesha had lots of friends who will no doubt find it very difficult to comprehend why they will never see their friend again.\n\n“Like any other six year old, Alesha was looking forward to enjoying her holidays from primary school and was only a few days into a three week summer break visiting relatives on the island. A pink flamingo and a swan were also involved.\nInstagram is filled with thousands of  inflatableunicorn pictures from foreign climes, while the England football team were photographed racing them in the hotel pool ahead of their game against Panama.\n\nThe flamingo is even more popular on social media, while retailers are also selling giant watermelon slices, lobsters, cacti, pineapples and ice lollies.\n\nRetailers also reported a sales hike thanks to Love Island, where inflatables can be glimpsed in the villa’s swimming pool\n\nBut the coastguard agency has issued a warning about the toys, urging people not to take them into the sea.\n\nHM Coastguard duty controller Piers Stanbury said: “We’ve had people rescued from a number of beaches along Hampshire and Sussex coastline. Each one of them had been using an inflatable. Thankfully, everyone so far has been rescued and is safe.”\n\n“We can’t stress enough that these inflatables are not suitable for use in the sea. Tide conditions, the wind, any changes in the weather can just take them out beyond safe depths.\n\n“Please, don’t use them. Don’t take them to the seaside. Inflatables should only be used in swimming pools, not at the coast where they can quickly go from being fun to being potentially deadly.”\n\nThe 15 rescues took place on Monday. In the unicorn incident, a helicopter was scrambled when the woman drifted into the Solent, a major shipping lane used by passenger, freight and military vessels.\n\nHillhead Coastguard Rescue Team, based between Portsmouth Harbour and the River Itchen, tweeted: “Tasked to a person blown over 400m from shore into one of the busiest waterways in the world on an inflatable unicorn.\n\n“Luckily, a passing kayaker assisted until Gosport ILB [a patrol craft] recovered the casualty safely to shore.”\nA team from Hayling Island Lifeboat Station, Hampshire, was called out to another unicorn, only to pass a flamingo on the way and then spot a person in the water who had drifted out to sea in a dinghy and was clinging to a buoy.\n\nThree lifeboats and a helicopter then set out to search the bay, fearing that someone had fallen from the flamingo, but they were stood down before sunset.       "body": "Study: Sleeping in rooms with even a little light can increase risk of depression\n\n![image.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNVJhGHtLeVWPyKYtF9atj97GjwyGvTm43jakExTPUXC2/image.jpg)\nExposure to light at night, even at very low levels, has been linked to an increased risk of depression, according to a study published this month in the American Journal of Epidemiology.\n\nIn general, nighttime light has been shown to disrupt internal sleep/wake cycles, which is an ever-growing concern as more people are using their phones and tablets in bed, or leaving the TV on as they sleep.\nBut the new report goes further, measuring bedroom exposure to low levels of nighttime light using a portable light meter attached to the bed. Researchers followed nearly 900 elderly people in Japan for two years and assessed symptoms of depression and tested sleep/wake patterns throughout the night.\n\nThey took into account weight, smoking or drinking habits, income level and medication use. Histories of high blood pressure, diabetes and physical activity level were also noted.\nChecking in two years after their baseline measurements, those exposed to more than five “lux” of light each night had higher rates of depression. That standard measure, one “lux,” is the amount of light that shines from a candle if you are sitting 1 meter away.\n\nBy comparison, a nighttime family room with the lights on measures about 50 lux, while standing outdoors in daylight is 10,000 to 25,000 lux. The equivalent of 5 lux is equivalent to the brightness of a street light shining through the window into a darkened bedroom.\n\nOnly about 150 people in the study had nighttime bedrooms with more than 5 lux of light, but that group showed a 65 percent increased chance of developing depression after two years.\n\nEven factoring in high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep/wake patterns, there was still a 63 percent increased chance of becoming depressed.
