We did our homework, we believed in the move but if it fails, that’s on me.”\n\nSoroka was pulled after just two innings of one-run ball due to shoulder pain. He had reached back for a bit of extra velocity in the previous frame and felt discomfort. The diagnosis: a low- to mid-grade shoulder strain. He’s expected to be shut down for about a week before further evaluation.\n\nDespite the injury not being too severe, the Cubs' momentum took another hit on the field, falling 5-1 to the Reds — their second straight loss. Starter Shota Imanaga pitched brilliantly into the seventh, but reliever Andrew Kittredge had a rare off night, giving up four runs and recording just one out.\n\nOffense Remains the Bigger Issue\n\n![GettyImages-2228721463-1024x683.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRzwke5f8oVaCjN63EXfmRdkZhU3puqxrPpA8vK2MnK2U/GettyImages-2228721463-1024x683.jpg)\n\nThe Cubs' offense continues to falter. After collecting just three hits the night before, they managed only four this time around. The first inning summed it all up: runners on first and second with no outs  followed by three straight strikeouts.\n\nDespite boasting one of the better offensive units earlier in the season, the team’s top hitters are in a slump. Manager Craig Counsell believes the bats will wake up eventually.\n\n“You’ve got to square balls up, create traffic, and score in different ways,” Counsell said. “Right now, we’re not doing it. We’ve got some guys who aren’t in great places at the plate but we’ll get them back.”\n\nSpotlight on Hoyer’s Deadline Decision\n\nAll of this has ramped up scrutiny on Hoyer, especially after the team failed to land a big-name starting pitcher at the deadline. While top arms weren’t exactly available, Soroka’s injury given his history  has made the gamble look riskier in hindsight.\n\nThe 26-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries over the years, including shoulder problems as recently as last summer. His velocity was trending downward before the trade, something Hoyer acknowledged the front office was aware of.\n\n“We knew the velocity dip was something to monitor,” Hoyer said. “We spent a lot of time on his medicals, and we knew the risk. But based on the market and what we were seeing, we felt he was worth taking a chance on.”\n\nThe upside was there Soroka had a 25.4% strikeout rate and a solid 7% walk rate, numbers that would’ve put him among Chicago’s best. With a far stronger defense behind him than in Washington, the Cubs saw potential in a change of scenery.\n\nBut the risk may not pay off.\n\nPitching Plan Going Forward\n\nBen Brown, who pitched four innings in relief after Soroka’s early exit, could slide into the rotation. Javier Assad is nearing a return after a rehab outing, while Jameson Taillon is expected to make another rehab start soon. With off days approaching, the Cubs have some flexibility to figure out the fifth-starter role.\n\nStill, none of this matters if the bats don’t come back to life.\n\nChasing the Brewers\n\nChicago sits at 65-48, tied for the third-best record in the National League  but the problem is the division. The Brewers continue to defy expectations, extending their lead to four games in the NL Central. The Cubs are now feeling the pressure.\n\nThere’s still belief that the offense will find its rhythm. The real question is whether that will happen in time or if this midseason skid becomes the story of a promising year gone sideways.",

Producers have scoured through podcasts, magazine articles, and increasingly, short stories. David Boxerbaum, an agent at Verve Talent Agency, spoke with Creative Screenwriting Magazine about the success he’s been having in selling short stories to producers and studios.\n\nShort stories shouldn’t be considered as a proof of concept or an abridged version of novel by writers that are necessarily, a means to an end. They are legitimate literary forms that may exclusively exist in that short format, or they can be adapted into larger pieces. “I think it’s a really interesting new prose that is becoming much more sought after in the marketplace right now,” says Boxerbaum. The agent is somewhat surprised by how sought-after the format has become recently after Verve has sold around 15 short stories in a row, some through bidding wars. “It’s almost replacing the spec script, but definitely becoming more sought-after than the spec. To me, the short story has become a real opportunity for writers, novelists, and playwrights, to really make an impact with a different way of showing a story, unlike we’ve seen quite some time,” he continues.\n\nShort stories have been published for many years, but the way they have changed the industry, especially in the horror-thriller genre, is very exciting. Horror and thriller short stories have made the biggest impact in a similar way that true-crime has impacted podcast adaptations into films and TV series.\n\nThe agent compares the excitement of short stories to the explosion of spec script sales during the 80s and 90s. And it shows no signs of slowing down.\n\n“I think it’s remarkable the way you can tell a story in the 25 to 40 pages; sometimes in as few as 4 or as high as 60. We’ve seen a different way that it triggers someone’s thought process when they’re reading them compared to when reading a normal spec.”\n\nDavid has enjoyed professional success selling spec scripts and he doesn’t want writers to feel that they will be imminently be replaced by short stories. Most notably, he was incensed by a missed handball call in the 66th minute when Mexican defender Jorge Sánchez appeared to handle the ball inside the box while slipping.\n\nTelevision replays showed Sánchez’s hand clearly making contact with the ball, but no penalty was awarded — either during play or after review. Pochettino insisted that if the incident had occurred at the other end, a penalty would have been given in Mexico’s favor.\n\n“It’s not about crying or complaining,” he said post-match. “But let’s be honest — if that had happened in our box, it’s a penalty.
