De nombreux peintres se sont emparés du cubisme (Gris). Il n’est plus intéressé.\nBraque part au front, Kahnweiler ne peut plus rentrer en France. Il rentre dans la période néo classique.\nLe thème du peintre et de son modèle a profondément retenu Picasso. Méditatif le peintre est assis perpendiculairement à sa chaise dont l’insertion sur le sol est masquée par les jambes. La main droite posée sur sa cuisse est grossie pour montrer qu’elle est en avant. La grâce délicate du modèle suggère Éva. La jeune femme est complètement peinte ainsi que derrière elle une partie de la toile représentant un paysage. Cette toile, autant peinture que dessin, a été réalisée sur la toile fine d’un torchon de cuisine (rayure rouge dans le bas du tableau). Curieuse anatomie du modèle : seins petits, jambes courtes. Tableau sans profondeur ; on a l’impression que le fond du tableau est la surface de la toile. Ce tableau n’a été révélé qu’après la mort de Picasso\nPosition de l’homme inspirée de Cézanne (accoudé) le dessin est de type ingresque. Il place entre le peintre et le modèle un paysage (renvoie à l’atelier de Courbet).",
